No one is talking about a channel on Mnet for them. How about just a local cartoon programme on NTA? |
Ijogz K:See what I mean!! Apalling!! |
So much for the idiots on this thread that were busy castigating Glo and/or didn't believe a few posters who said that the problem was Global. The links included clearly indicate that the problem is beyond Glo, MTN or even Nigeria. in fact the amount of insulting and cursing that goes on in NL shows how poor our educational system is, because a properly educated mind should know better than to immediately rubbish peoples comments and rain abuses and curses without first making an effort to find out the reality. After all, if you have internet access to send silly comment, you could as well take the time out to google if indeed RIM are having problems. |
I have used 4 GT radial tyres on my car for about 4 years with no issues. |
Gosh, we've had these subsidy arguements on NL a million times. In the LONG TERM and speaking from an ECONOMIC (not socialist) point of view subsidies should be removed. I know it will make things difficult in the SHORT TERM, but that will just have to be the collective pain we'll all have to bear for mismanaging this country. While the leaders have the most responsibility for mismanagement, we the followers are not much better. As they say, people get the types of leaders that they deserve. There is no petrol or electricity subsidy in Ghana, but they are all still alive aren't they?? And in my opinion they are not necessarily worse off as a country than we are. Besides if kerosene and diesel are already deregulated then we shopuld have nothing to fear, cos the so called masses who insist on kerosene at N150 per litre (when gas at N3500 per cylinder is probably cheaper) are buying it at whatever price and they are not dying. Likewise most of the heavy haulage of food, cement etc already factors in deregulated diesel, so why should foodstuffs and cement etc rise astronomically? Afterall, tankers and trailers use diesel and not petrol. I think we might just all be overstating the impact of removal of subsidy on petrol on our economy, when kerosene and diesel are already deregulated. No doubt it will make things more difficult in the SHORT TERM, but in the LONG TERM Nigeria will be much better for it. |
I have been having apps (MTN, Google news, Opera mobile store) takeover my speed dial buttons on opera mini also, but all one needs to do is just to clear them and put the ones you want back. |
We dont need more speed we need unlimited data allowance like does does outside 9ja. I hear even those in ghana get unlimited downloads
Dude, even in the states and in uk, operators are beginning to get rid of unlimited plans cos they can barely cope. |
11Mb/s!!! I dey suspect that story o!! |
MTN3.5g Rumuomasi Portharcourt averages about 500-600Kbps, but can bump up to 2mbps when the need arises. Glo is 90% crap Airtel is 70% crap haven't tried Easyblaze yet |
Don't know why there are so many MTN haters. It seems most people propping Glo stay in Lagos. I hear Glo is about the fastest there, but when you are outside Lagos, Glo sucks. The signal keeps breaking every other minute and changing from 3G to EDGE to GPRS like twice a minute. I have tried Glo in Ibadan and PH and I know what I'm talking about. MTN is the most consistent and reliable overall! Was on the verge of trying Etisalat for their new Easyblaze, but now that MTN have responded to offer lower prices, I might as well just stick with MTN. Been clamouring for a 1Gb allowance in the N3k region for a while now as I don't usually use much more than that a month since I browse at work also and MTN has finally answered. Besides MTN is fast enough anyway for watching video. Can't remember the last time i watched youtube or yahoo movie previews and experienced any buffering. |
Absolutely useless without valid means of human and vehicular identification!!! |
Absolutely useless without valid means of human and vehicular identification!!! |
ugotuf:Ugotuf, where are you located? Most I have experienced with my MTN in ph is 2.1mbps which was afew days ago sef, while watching yahoo movie previews. |
Hmmmm, is MTN deploying HSPA also? Cos the MTN picture above showed HSPA, which is faster than HSDPA. If so, maybe no need to move to Etisalat then, cos MTN is constant and relaible in PH. It will then come down to who is cheaper and more reliable. Glo in PH is horrible for instance (both in my office and my home at least) |
check your sent messages. I won't be surprised if you see 107 there!! |
mrjingles:Mr Jingles, I can take you up on that next time i'm in Lag o!!!! Lol!! |
Masses, masses, masses!! Kerosene is already deregulated, so if the masses are not dying on the road because of that, what will change. Diiesel is already deregulated, so those who travel by luxurious bus and those who transport food have nothing extra to pay. Not saying it won't make things more difficult, but we should argue in a more focused and economic manner. |
honeric01:Yeah, i agree. MTN had been pretty poor for a week or two, but they seem to be back now. Was watching a couple of yahoo movie previews yesterday and the thing hit like 2.1Mbps steady for about 10-15secs, then dropped to about the average 500kpbs when it had obviously downloaded enough of the video to ensure there would be no buffering, and I watched about 3 previews and all of them played with no single interuption. Come to think of it, do we really need blazing speeds? Abroad they clamour for more speed because of all the digital content they consume (online movies, music, skype, video calling, loads of apps etc), but here in Naija we consume very little of that. By and large MTN satisfies all my needs at the current speeds. |
Dangote is not the "evil" one many Nigerian's make him out to be. Blames for every monopolistic tendency, high prices, insufficient competion etc must rest with the government. It's like townsmen in Niger Delta going to camp infront of Shell gate saying shell has not provided us with light, water and road!! But the point is that is Shell now the LG,SG or FG!!?? As apeople we should direct our grieviances at the right source. Government!! |
praises99:Is that revenue or profit?? |
A well thoughtout and designed National ID card and identity database is long overdue. We need to harmonise user identity and records in one place for use by FRSC, FIRS, Police, Customs, INEC, NCC and the rest. However, can someone explain why all those who have wasted our funds on similar projects in the past still walking free? |
Millitants are now becoming more powerful than the police and even the Nigerian state!! |
Double N:You think so! I don't agree. Their prices are comparable to Glo and MTN and since they offer potentialy 5times faster speeds, then which one offers more value for money to you? |
I wonder what the response from Glo and MTN will be. Airtel seems to have dropped out of the game. MTN and Glo have to either upgrade their network or reduce the prices for their existing 3.5G, which will suit me fine cos MTN is fast enough for me in ph. At least I can watch youtube and yahoo movies previews with almost no breakage per clip. |
sauer:where were you when you tried it? Lagos? Cos it doesn't seem like they are live in ph yet. I can only see edge on my phone. |
This link provides useful info for all those interested in the different technologies out there http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.php?a=376&p=2707 The data roll over by Etisalat makes sense o!!! That's a really good marketing move!!!! |
That would be really great. Cos we definately need better upload speed. My MTN 3G which gives me fast enough download speeds (average of about 800kbps), uploads ridiculously slow (about 80kbps) that takes me almost 15mins just to upload a 4Mb picture from my digital camera to flickr. |
It's apity that our universities have become so intelectually poor. I would expect the relevant dept in say unilag to conduct a study as the actual costs of a household using kerosene vs gas. I have always suspected that the poor masses who always struggle to buy kerosene, might actually be better off using gas. They are just too illiterate to do the math and probably too poor to afford the initial set up cost for gas( cylinder and cooker) However, if it is proven that gas is cheaper, then LASG could help the poorer residents migrate to gas by either provision of grants to buy cylinder and basic table top cookers or provision of the cylinders /cookers directly. |
agitator:It is the responsibility of the government, not mine, to ensure that it pre-qualifies and pre-selects only competent investors who are willing to operate the companies on the guidelines as set out by the government ab inito!! If whoever bought Ajaoukuta bought it with the intention to break it up and sell the pieces for more money and our government in its usual stupidity didn't put a clause in the transaction that the companies were to be operated for Bleep number of years, can you blame the company!!? The company has done nothing illegal. Asset stripping is actually a normal part of business. We need to decide which form of economy we want to run - communist, socialist or capitalist!! In a capitalist economy, I can decide to buy a non performing company for whatever reason. Ideally, if i want I can buy NiTEL not for the purpose of operating it, but for the purpose of gaining access to all their landed property all over Nigeria and selling all those for a profit. It is only illegal if the sale contract expressly forbids it! Or the laws of the land forbid it! I am unashamedly in support of privatisation and deregulation. The private sector is 1000 times better at capital formation and efficient allocation than the government. An investment decision that takes the MD of a private company 1 hour can take government 6months. Even the Minister of Power admitted as much when he said a few days ago that isn't it odd that even the new plants built by govt (Geregu, Omotosho etc) are operating at less than 40%, while the IPP's built by Shell (Afam 6) and Agip (Okpai) are operating at 85-90%!! Doesn't FG have Afam 1-5 at the same location as Shell!!?? Think of all the government companies that have failed over the years Nigerian Airways, NITEL, Hotels, Banks, PHCN, NNSL, NRC, and so many more. How come private airlines are working, GSM companies are working, thousands of private hotels across the country are working, private banks are working et al!! Think how many jobs would have been created if a private NRC (railway corporation) was working today? Not to mention lives that would have been saved as the roads would be better since so much of the haulage destroying the roads would have been transported by rail!!Isn't MM" much better to use than the crap terminal that Arik uses? MM2 is miles better than Port Harcourt "international" airport!! Dude, I rest my case, |
This is an article I wrote last year on our educational system in general and university system in particular, happy reading. I'd like your comments as well please. http://wayforwardnaija..com/2009/10/nigerian-university-system-which-way.html Regards |
Ijogz K:Thanks for your kind words. If you think what I wrote makes sense, perhaps you might like to read some articles from my blog and lease your comments www.wayforwardnaija..com Thanks |
No doubt the masses will cheer this news, but this is just probably one of those populist announcements that governors like to make. While reducing fees is not a bad thing, but where will the money to run the university come from?? Contrary to popular belief in Nigeria, university tuition is not free in the UK or US. UK university tuition for British citizens is anywhere between £3000-£5000 per session. Yet we make noise here over increases from N25,000 to N50,000. No doubt, scenarios are different, but we need to put our money where our mouth is. If we want a very good education, we have to understand that it won't come cheap. We Nigerians talk with both sides of our mouth: We want 24hr electricity, but we don't want to pay for it. We want a deregulated downstream petroleum sector, but we want the prices to remain at N65. We want jobs to be created in this country, but we want govt to hold on to every sector because they are strategic to "national security" We want corruption to reduce, but many of us who work in corrupt ministries, agencies and parastatals have never thought to copy these documents that clearly show illegal transfer and send them to efcc anonymously. We all want to go to heaven, but no one wants to die. We cry out about flooding and filth, yet we citizens throw gala wrapper and rubbish unto the roads without thought. We are really a largely illiterate and hypocritical society. |
