RomanceRe: Why Are Nigerian Girls So Money-conscious? by COMPAQ(m): 4:51pm On May 25, 2011
Abuja is where all the heavy chicks are at. It occured to me sometime ago that when at the domestic airport, when ever you see lots of heavy looking chicks in the departure lounge, most of them get up to board flights when they call Abuja flights. I check this out every time i travel and discovered that I was spot on. In fact, I mentioned it to a friend and he said he had observed it as well.
TV/MoviesRe: Sesame Street In Nigeria: Good Or Bad For Us As Nigerians? by COMPAQ(m): 2:02pm On May 25, 2011
I have often wonderd why no single Nigerian tv station has taken the time, resources etc to learn how to do animation properly. A simple concept would be to animate all the old Tales by Moonlight stories, with local centric animation and sell the rights/content to other African tv,sattelite stations, etc.

But given the Nigerian way of doing things, the animation will be poorly done, using the worst instead of the best equipment etc.

I recall watching a super eagles match that NTA covered recently and I almost threw up. The picture quality was poor (despite being shown on DSTV, AIT though), the camera angles were horrible - non for offside calls, the commentary was crap and often times the camera lost sight of the ball!! All this in 2011!!!huh? This is how NTA has been for the last 20years, in fact NTA of 20 years ago telivised matches better than that!!!

Majority of Nigerians have a poor work ethic, are incompetent, are unprofessional and cannot be bothered to do the right thing!!

You are right about that, here we pay for Tv license every year just like we pay for vehicle license.I was shocked the first time i wanted to buy a Tv in store and they told me that they can only sell a TV to me if i also purchase a TV license. The only people here who sell Tvs without requesting for Tv license are the Pakistanis and the Chinese.

I do believe a group of rich seasoned Journalist like Tony momoh and co could join hands together to start a new channel like Aljazeera.

The problem with Nigeria is our "manage mange" mentality and our terrible maintenance culture.

Take nollywood for example,up till now they are still using camcorders to shoot most of their movies instead of using hollywood standard 8mm camera which bring out studio quality pictures. Is it that chico ejiro and co cannot afford these cameras? No ,but they like to make maximum profit while delivering half baked goods. It is the typical Nigerian way of doing business.

It is the reason why nollywood has been declining in recent years ,it is the reason Nigerian Airways collapsed,it the reason why most things don't work in Nigeria.I mean check out our Federal Government's website : http://www.nigeria.gov.ng/

As a web designer myself ,it is an eyesore.I wonder how many millions of naira was awarded for that kindergarten looking website.I can do a better job than that for less than $5000 by just using drupal or CMS flash.
Valid point! If you want to see a worse website, go and check out NTA's website. The first and last time I was on that site( a few months ago), they had news items that were months old still on the website, and that is a website runs by a NEWS organisation. Amazing!!!!

ComputersRe: Is Catlantic (circuit Atlantic) Really Genuine? by COMPAQ(m): 8:18am On May 17, 2011
Good question. There are suddenly lots of "buy in UK/US from Nigeria" type sites these days and knowing Nigerian's, the truth is that most of them will be fake. However, there are anumber of freight forwarding companies existing already 9before all this became a fad online) that many people youe. I don't know of any personally, but I have friends who use many of them. You just need to find someone who has used a particular one consistently enough and can vouch for them. Referrals from someone you know personally is key for this business.
PoliticsRe: Official Results Of Presidential Election: By INEC by COMPAQ(m): 8:51am On Apr 18, 2011
I have heard 2 confirmed cases of ballot stuffing and thumb printing of empty ballot papers in Rivers and Bayelsa. The results were obviously rigged in the SE and SS. The percenages of registered voters that "voted" were too high relative to the rest of the country (have the SE and SS suddenly become so much more politically aware than everyone else?). And of those who voted, the % for PDP was also too high relative to the opposition. As a Professor of Political Science said on NTA yesterday, in the best of cases, a popular candidate will get maybe 60%-70%, but certainly not 95%-97% as we had in SS and SE.

I am sure most of us have seen the video of a woman thumbprinting empty ballot papers in River state. That is additional proof of what went on the the SE and SS.

let me tell you guys, besides church, the man has one of the best universities in Nigeria, he is also a business man,
i am happy for him and his church and pray to be like him someday, i see nothing wrong in what he did
Are you suggesting that the returns from Covenant university are sufficient to purchase a N4.5bln aircraft!!? You gotta be kidding me. besides, it's about time we got a full expose on what business interests Oyedepo is involved in.
PoliticsRe: Why I Cancelled Jakande's Lagos Metroline, By Buhari by COMPAQ(m): 1:34pm On Apr 09, 2011
If the metroline had continued, I can GUARANTEE you that it would have fallen to pieces now like everything else run by government. Come to think of it, what would be the power source of this metroline now? Just like our aiports (except MM2), the metroline stations would now be dirty, dysfunctional and a beehive of agbero's and touts. With the wat govt manages things, imagine closing late from work in Lagos and having to go underground to take a train to your destination at say 9.30pm!! I leave that to your imagination!!!

Moral of my story!! Such things are better left in the hands of the private sector to run!!!
Christianity EtcRe: Bishop Oyedepo Acquires Yet Another N4.5b Private Jet by COMPAQ(m): 1:17pm On Apr 09, 2011
I really struggle to understand why men of God, especially Nigerian ones, feel they need 1 private jet, let alone 4!! Pastor Oyedepo can only be in one at any given time for goodness sakes!! Even if regular flight schedules and destinations from Nigeria don't fit is own busy schedule, why not enter into some form of partnership with airlines that run executive charter services??

I really feel government needs to look into the activities of these "mega" churches and pastors. While I do not agree (yet) that churches should be taxed, I feel the government should make all these churches submit some for of returns to the CAC or CBN, which would detail how much these churches earn from tithes, offerings, gifts, donations etc. In fact left to me, there should be some sort of regulation that would compel churches to ensure that tithes, offerings etc from ANYONE exceeding N10,000 be paid by cheque and a list of such individuals and photocopies/scanned copies of their cheques must be kept by the church office. You'd be surprised that people are paying tithe of N1,000,000 in a month and are paying tax of N50,000, which would be surprising considering that tithes are 10%, while the tax rate for that kind of income would be around 22%.

I do not know what it is exactly, but there is definately something fishy going on in some of these churches. Besides do the jets belong to HIM or to the CHURCH?? The tithes, offerings etc belong to the CHURCH and not to HIM (someone correct me if I am wrong). Therefore, if he should leave Winners chapel tomorrow, all the jets should be retained by the CHURCH, but you'd be surprised that he might claim them all.

I've always said that the person one marries is not the onlt person one could have married. I've had serious relationships with about 4 women before I eventually got married and in the right circumstances, i could have got married to anyone of them. The level of happiness I would be having with each of them after a few years of marriage is however subject to debate!!
ComputersMtn 3g Down In Port Harcourt Area by COMPAQ(op): 4:32pm On Apr 05, 2011
For users in Port Harcourt and environs who may be experiencing difficulties browsing with MTN, either on your phone or using a modem; please be aware that MTN is currently working on its 3G network.

For now only EDGE is available. I had this problem for about a week and called MTN customer care and I was asked to change my phone network from 3G to EDGE.

There was no indication as to when 3G services would be restored.
BusinessRe: Jonathan's Govt Drops Nuclear Power Plans by COMPAQ(m): 3:50pm On Apr 05, 2011
@playmode: please explain how consumers will be able to purchase power from any provider they so choose? From the best of my knowledge, that level of competion or benefit of choice to the customer will be curtailed in the power sector by the nature of the industry. Afterall power company A will not lay seperate cables to every house different thanthose of power company B. Besides whole blocks of states etc will be sold off as distribution companies, meaning that they will be mini monopolies.

SportsThe Embarrassment Called Nta by COMPAQ(op): 8:14am On Mar 28, 2011
I was so embarassed watching the Nigeria vs Ethopia match, covered by NTA yesterday! The last 4 or 5 Super Eagles matches played at home have been covered by Super Sport and the video coverage at thos matches were reasonable enough.

However the video coverage of the match yesterday was terrible! The picture and sound quality was very poor, the camera angles were poor, cameras were insufficient and there were many times where the camera lost sight of the ball.

This shows the technical incompetence of the NTA, supposedly Afica's "largest Tv network"! I though brand new HD Digital OB vans were bought by Dora Akunyili for the U-17 competition? What has happened to them? Or is it a case of incompetent people managing good technology? Whichever, the results were terrible.

NTA should be made to sit up and stop embarrasing Nigeria!!

PhonesRe: Glo Introduces ‘no Conditions’ Tariff Plan: Offers 25k Per Second by COMPAQ(m): 1:14pm On Mar 11, 2011
Glo is just hot air jor!!! Their netwrok in PH has been horrible since late last year, dropped calls, internet disconnects every few minutes, poor customer service, slow internet speeds etc etc. MTN is on top because they deserve to be. All those hating on MTN are wasting their time. The truth is that MTN is far more technologically advanced than Glo. Infact, Etisalat is even more technically sound than Glo. Just wait for Etisalat's 3G. I'm sure it will be far more reliable and consistently fast than Glo!!

valacious:
I am suggesting we boycot MTN Network in protest for 2days 20th and 21st march 2011, but an allowance of not more than 3minutes call total for emergency or urgent calls. Pls lets join hands together to stop this rip-off. In india/malaysia u get to call all network for an equivalent of N2/min, and these countries too have their infrastructure challenges. Imagine still callin mtn to mtn at N30/min. Our govt has failed us, its time to act.
Which Malaysia has infrastructural challenges!!! I have been there and Kuala Lumpur is as cosmopolitan as London. Remember that the Petronas twin towers - once the tallest buildings in the world- are in Kuala Lumpur.

Anyway hate them or not. MTN is the most technologically advanced of the telco's and they know it. They know that even with their higher rates, because they deliver the best voice and data, no one will leave them!!
ComputersHow Long Will It Take Glo To Resolve Its Issues? by COMPAQ(op): 3:39pm On Mar 03, 2011
I don't know about users anwhere else in Nigeria, but for those of us in the South South, Port Harcourt in particular, Glo's voice and data services have been horrible for some time now. I have hardly enjoyed the use of my Glo modem for 3-4 months now. The signal shifts from 3G to EDGE to GSM like 2 to 3 times a minute and each time you have to re-connect again.

Voice services are better, but dropped calls and inability to get through at all are very regular and there are also times when my phone simply loses signal altogether.

How long will it take Glo to resolve these issues? I have written to their customer service like 15times asking for compensation for the N5k 1.5Gb 30 day internet bundle which I was only able to use for about 12 days. They lied that they would call me back to arrange compensation, which they never did and soon stopped replying my constant e-mails.

Glo sucks!!

TravelRe: Lagos Ranked 4th Worst Livable City In The World 2011: D'you Agree? by COMPAQ(m): 4:31pm On Feb 28, 2011
MIBB:
Lagos remains the only international city in Nigeria.
How have you come about that assessment? An UNHABITAT report a few years ago categorised Abuja and perhaps Lagos as the only two "cities" capable of being called cities in Nigeria. And its absolutely right. Almost all other cities in Nigeria are just rapidly expanding slums! Absolutely no planning whatsoever! The best residential areas in Ibadan for eg are those developed by the colonial masters eg iyanganku, ring road, jericho etc. The last well developed estate in Ibadan is New Bodija which was was planned in the late 70's. Beyond that, there is nothing worthy of being called a well planned estate in Ibadan. Ibadan is even better because the rate of growth is not as severe. Lagos, Aba, Onitsha, PH etc have been utterly degraded. Ph doesn't even have a well established residential estate or middle class area. Other than the GRA's (which have all been commercialised anyway) the middle class live in the midst of run down houses.

I really doubt that sharing that amount of meney will be possible. the payment of Federal Civil Service workers is hard enough, not to talk of Niger deltans who live in the bush with no passport, national ID, drivers license etc. besides, corruption from the government and greed from the people themselves will likely not allow for proper sharing of the money anyway, !!!
PoliticsRe: Buhari Bakare Manifesto - The Best Ever! by COMPAQ(m): 2:32pm On Feb 24, 2011
Most of the statements in the manifesto are vauge. There is little or nothing stated there which gives an indication of high levels of logic or superior thinking and intelligence. Any average politician can come up with these statements. Anyway, maybe debates and other discussions will tell us exactly how he intends to achieve this. The issues millitating against us in many of the areas mentioned in the manifesto go beyond simple "we will do this" and " we will do that"
