PhonesRe: MTN Increases Their Internet Data Bundle Allowance by COMPAQ(m): 4:46pm On Nov 24, 2012
I hear that mtn is much faster after their upgrade. I can anyone confirm this? Has anyone noticed mtn being significantly faster in the last 3 to 4 weeks?
PhonesRe: With Etisalat Easyflex I Have Total Freedom by COMPAQ(m): 4:37pm On Nov 24, 2012
Etisalat needs to respond to the increase in data sizes by other operators. They are now the most expensive. For 1.5Gb,glo is 3k,mtn is 3.5k,while Etisalat is 4k!! My next monthly bundle will be on mtn if Etisalat doesn't respond. Etisalat used to be faster but with mtn upgrade I hear it has really speeded up too. Time to check it out.
PhonesRe: GLO Increases Their Internet Data Bundle Allowance by COMPAQ(m): 4:28pm On Nov 24, 2012
Etisalat needs to respond cos they have now become the most expensive. Glo does 3k for 1.5gb,mtn does 3.5k for same, while Etisalat is 4k. Would have moved to glo but it's crappy in ph, so it looks like I will be moving to mtn once this Etisalat bundle finishes.
PhonesRe: Etisalat Is In The Game by COMPAQ(m): 4:17pm On Nov 24, 2012
geniusbami: Well, it would be unfair on my part if I don't tell U my disappointments with this new Etisalat Flex packages. I posted out of excitement, only to find out that

The ₦300 U pay for Flex 300 doesn't really guarantee U 25 mins + 25 MB + 100sms.

Here's how it works:
If U send 50 out of 100 sms, U only have a value of ₦150 left. If U then make, say, 12 mins 30sec of calls, U will not have anything left to browse, call or send sms.

In other words,
Sms is at ₦3 to all networks or
Calls are at ₦12 to all networks or
Browsing is charged at ₦120 per 10MB.

Draw ur conclusions folks.
If that's the case, then that is rather fraudulent.

PoliticsRe: Rivers Monorail Project Gathers Steam - First Tracks Laid. by COMPAQ(m): 9:39am On Nov 24, 2012
The monorail in not really necessary for port Harcourt. There is a lot more improvement on the roads that could have been done to improve the traffic situation. For me the only city in Nigeria that really really needs a monorail is Lagos. Lagos has the middle class to sustain it and the benefits as per improved mobility in Lagos will far exceed what it will generate in Port Harcourt.
PhonesRe: Glo Launches 'Glo Bolt' Super-fast Internet Modem by COMPAQ(m): 10:13pm On Nov 21, 2012
Glo is all noise. They are just relaunching an old product to stay relevant. Not aware they have done any upgrade, so where us the extra speed supposed to come from? Last I knew Glo is still operating a hsdpa network while airtel and Etisalat have moved up to hspa+. Even mtn us publicly upgrading.

PhonesRe: Glo Launches 'Glo Bolt' Super-fast Internet Modem by COMPAQ(m): 9:42pm On Nov 21, 2012
Glo ke! Not impressed at all. I dumped Glo long ago. It's all marketing gimmick. Anyone with a modern phone can create a hot spot and that will become more prevalent as more people upgrade to smartphones. Glo should tell us how this is different from previous modems. If they haven't upgraded their network, where will the extra speed come from? As far as I know, Glo is still on normal hsdpa and not hspa+ like Etisalat and airtel. I think mtns current upgrade is also taking them to hspa+.

PoliticsRe: Mokola Roundabout Bridge Construction – Update by COMPAQ(m): 3:55pm On Nov 18, 2012
I hope the design was well thought through! Often times, poorly conceptualised projects like this can cause more hold up than there was before. The construction has taken too long though. It's been almost 2 years now for a simple flyover that's not more than 100meters or so.

Amaechi, I hope you are seeing. We need a similar solution at 1st/2nd Artillery and possibly GRA junction!!

Can't wait! Will immediately Ditch Airtel and switch to either mtn or etisalat. Not that Airtel is bad per se but they just happen to be poor where I live, which is where I need the Internet most.

Why am I not surprised! Get is grossly incompetent. How has due process suddenly not been followed! A process that just ended a few months ago and was celebrated in the media! So what went wrong? I really don't understand this country! When are we going to consistently move forward? We take one step forward and 2 back,

Djcn: its not enough to make such claims give location in ph.
Well, I know she resides somewhere on Okporo road near artillery. However, I am aware she uses the latest ZTE modem, which I think has a max of 21mbps. I just dusted off an old mtn sim to test (I am always looking for the fastest service) and my ookla speed test gives me a download speed of 1.9gbps! And that's using an older glo modem of 3 years ago with a max of 3.6mbps. We should all remember that we are limited by the hardware that we use!! Some peeps are looking for superfast speeds on modems and phones of 3 years ago...it simply won't happen. The other thing i noticed though is that the upload speed was rather poor at 250kbps. Etisalat sometimes does more than 1gbps uploading.
PhonesRe: What Is Mtn Upgrading To? by COMPAQ(op): 6:52pm On Nov 07, 2012
MrMexs007: I disagree with you...if 'number portability' by December is true all it means is that I can sign up a contract with etisalat ditch MTN and continue with the splendid voice and data package that etisalat has to offer. Truth be told MTN has the worst data reliability I've ever seen. What keeps people 'including myself' with that network is just cause of my 0803 line. If number portability becomes possible in Nigeria (as it is abroad) then the Nigerian telecoms industry would be driven solely by the services renders and not how long one is known by a number.
I am eager for number portability myself. I am also finding it difficult to change to etisalat from Airtel cos I've Been using the number for like since inception and don't want to have to start communicating a new number.
PhonesRe: What Is Mtn Upgrading To? by COMPAQ(op): 6:42pm On Nov 07, 2012
Funny enough a colleague reported that for the last 4 to 5 days, she has suddenly started posted speeds as high as 10mbps to 12mbps. And she said she was getting regular speeds of like 800kbps to 1.5mbps just like a week ago, so maybe the upgrade is working. This is in pH by the way and I recall they advertised in the local radio here like a month ago that the upgrade had now reached our area.
PhonesWhat Is Mtn Upgrading To? by COMPAQ(op): 9:37pm On Nov 04, 2012
Over the last couple of months, MTN has been in the news informing us of their current network upgrade. However, i'm curious about what they are upgrading to with respect to data! Are they moving up to HSPA+ otherwise known as 3.75g(which Airtel and Etisalat use) or are they moving up to LTE, otherwise known as 4g, (which no network in Nigeria uses yet - forget Glo's claims) which I understand is what MTN SA is upgrading to.

If there is anyone in the house privy to that info, please share as it could determine the nature of my next phone.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan Orders rehabilitation Of Roads Nationwide Before Christmas by COMPAQ(m): 12:41pm On Nov 01, 2012
This just shows how STUPID Jonathan is! Does he think he is God that speaks and things happen? Won't the scope of work be assessed? Won't the jobs the tendered? Will there not be a process for contract award? Will someone not check that there is sufficient budgetary cover for the work to be carried out? Does the Ministry of Works not know that it has to rehabilitate roads except the President says so? All the orders he gave in years past, how many of them brought any benefit?

Fasola doesn't go about "ordering" that Western Avenue be rebuilt or that Badagry expressway be rebuilt....the guy just does his job...simple!!!

Jeez...what a country we live in?

I agree that Amaechi has been almost invisible during this seci=ond term. Asides from the roads he dualised in Port Harcourt metropolis, most of the other feeder roads are in a shocking state.

Amaechi is really messing up this second term!!
