Nairaland GeneralRe: Is This True About Lagos? by Conwarden: 7:18pm On Nov 11, 2021
digithub:
Is this a Good description of Lagos?...kindly drop a comment and upvote

*THIS IS LAGOS*

On the Island of the affluent in Lagos, I rarely hear aircraft buzzing in the sky, except the posh helicopters of the busy rich. The airport and flight noise don’t affect the airspace, it only devalues the land.

The rich pretend to pray, but God is on the Mainland, land on the island is too expensive to build many worship centers.

The Island was not built for Beer. It is the hub of champagne, spirits, and wines. Beer is for the road, an appetizer bottled on the Mainland.

The Mainland is crowded with families. Life on the island has no friends. Everything is cash or ‘waka’. The roads are expensively tolled, the schools are US ‘Dollard’, and a smile might cost some ‘Nairas’.

The Island expands while the Mainland remains the same. Under neon lights, millions of Mainland ‘ants’ trample on the Third Mainland Bridge into the Island of their dreams. Many die on the bridge, many earn a kobo, and many rob the others.

The Island goes to the Mainland, only to fly & buy cheaper foodstuffs (in bulk). Life on the mainland has many tribes. Bad roads and traffic jamborees in Enugu suburbs like Ago and Okota would eventually pursue ‘Omo Igbo’ to the East. The smart ones live in Yoruba neighborhoods, like itire, with Chinese constructed drainages. Sharp guys have moved into Surulere, the Governor’s neighborhood and the best place to drink. The number of youths in Festac makes one wonder if they ate their parents for dinner.

Ketu is a gang of Yoruba women hustling to breathe. Ikorodu can be great if it gets a bridge into the island. Yaba is the link between books, Aristos, ‘White House’ and an infamous Psyche ward (Yaba-left).yaba

Sex is on Allen, tax is a joyride at Alausa. Obanikoro is the name of a man on the Island and a place in the Mainland. Everything on the Mainland is made in Ilupeju, Ogba, Isolo, Agidingbi, and Oregun. Agbara is not on the Mainland, it’s in Ogun state, like Mowe and Ibafo.

Everything on the Island is imported from the Mainland ports of Apapa and Tin Can. The sound of Mazamaza and Okokomaiko can cure madness. Homes in Idi-Araba are waiting to collapse, thank God for LUTH; Igbobi’s Orthopedics is not too far away.

There is a Lagos state University campus in every Mainland corner; the main campus and a military cantonment are at Ojo. Musicians from Mushin and Ajegunle have monopolized the sympathy of poverty, while Egbeda and Ikotun get no pity.
If eyes are closed in Agege and Iddo when a train passes, one can pretend to be in Grand Central Station. Gbagadans usually pretend to be on the Island, but Oworonshoki can’t get away with such lies. Ogudu GRA insists on being distinct from a conjoined Ojota, while Amuwo-Odofin calls itself Festac Extension.

Iju and Ojodu villages are hyped by estate agents. Ebute-Metta is an old Yoruba phrase: “A place of three shores.” It is a decaying dream of British colonialism and Brazilian architecture.

Most of the residents of Magodo and Omole are Landlords. Maryland is not a saint and Anthony is not a Village. Igando and Ipaja are playing catching up with the state government.

Ikeja is the official capital of Lagos. The State House is on the Island, where the real capital is. Lagos deserves a special status in the constitution.

On the Island, money has relatives. Ikoyi and Victoria Island are twin sisters, posh from birth and wrinkled with age. Lekki is a distant cousin, taxing and full of fraudulent schemes. VGC and Eleko are wealthy uncles, isolated from others and always overseas. Nicon and Parkview are the pretty nieces with feigned American and British accents. Oniru and Elegushi are the nephews from the village, who recently found wealth and arrogance. Ajah is the Step-sister, giving birth to children she can’t feed. Jakande and Igbo-Efon are broke In-laws, hardworking but always in need. Ibeju-Lekki and Epe are the Jilted aunts, feeding on promises and searching for suitors. Obalende is the lost brother without a mind, thought to be dead. Eko, Idumota, and Marina are Triplets of Royal descents, with trade on their minds, and power between their legs. Maroko is the baby that was aborted at Midterm. Makoko is the dirty bastard that wouldn’t disappear. Eko Atlantic City has recently left the incubator, hoping to survive. Many other siblings are just occupying space and causing traffic jams on the Island of the rich.

This is how I know I’m not on the Island: service attendants begging for money; Lastma officials lurking behind traffic lights; Dunghill switch is everywhere, and I can’t get an Iota of decency.

Feel free to contribute........

PoliticsRe: Discovery Museum Plays Host To World Bank Managing Director by Conwarden: 6:02pm On Nov 11, 2021
phawaaz:
As part of plans to expand the landscape of storytelling in the context of Nigeria’s rich cultural, political, and social history, Nigeria’s first digitally-driven museum, The Discovery Museum, recently played host to Mari Pangestu, Managing Director, Development Policy and Partnerships at the World Bank, in a visit the director described as an “incredible sensory experience.”

Launched in July 2021, the museum, a unique intersection between the past, present, and projected future of Africa’s most populous country is an ambitious project of Abuja-based company, The Art Tech District. The privately funded museum located in the heart of the Nation’s Federal Capital leverages cutting-edge technology to deliver Nigeria’s art, history, and culture to the modern world. With the world heading towards a Global Fourth Industrial Revolution and tourism rapidly evolving into one the most lucrative industries, the Art Tech District team, also being cognizant of the country’s large innovative pool and growing disconnect between the people and its complex past, set up the museum with the goal of providing an immersive experience into what it means to be Nigerian and how our past served as a roadmap to who we are now.

Art Tech District founder, Mosope Olaosebikan, its General Manager, Faridah Dikko, and Discovery Museum curator, Amanda Kirby Okoye were on hand to welcome the World Bank leader and her team to the compound. Introducing key members of staff present, Dikko gave a brief overview of Art Tech District, its ethos and goals, before handing over to the museum’s curator for a detailed tour of the state-of-the-art facility and its many displays and installations.

Opening the tour with an installation showing various regions in the country and their economic contributions over time, Okoye highlighted areas like eastern Nigeria known for its coal production, as well as northern Nigeria, home to a massive leather industry that currently exports raw materials to luxury leather companies like Louis Vuitton. Further down a dimly lit hallway, the museum opens up to a wide space that plays home to a leadership dome and life-like soldiers positioned as a way of honoring veterans and their indelible contributions to the nation’s building process. Recognizing former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Managing Director recalls meeting the two-time leader as Okoye explained Nigeria’s transition from military to democratic rule.

During the tour, the Managing Director also had access to a wide variety of classic and modern Nigerian creative art across the board from music to literature. Listening to playlists curated over several decades, she acknowledged the distinct beauty of the Nigerian sound that has had a cascading effect across multiple generations. A photo-op with images of colleagues like a former visitor and United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed, and World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, follows a visceral Virtual Reality (VR) experience in the museum’s Conflict and Resolution room. Okoye goes on to explain the importance of this room, describing it as a “safe space for Nigerians to experience and have difficult conversations about tumultuous moments from our past.”
The museum also houses a Replica Room containing lookalikes of various art pieces that have been stolen from the shores of Nigeria. Curated to educate and stir up conversations surrounding the return of stolen art, the room shows diverse pieces from different parts of the country highlighting intricate crafting that has become synonymous with Nigerian art. Expanding on the digital aspect of the museum, Dikko also pointed out QR codes courtesy of a hackathon the company organized, that allows for visitors to scan for displays and installations for more detailed explanations on their origins and significance.

Taking in sights at the museum, the World Bank Managing Director also pointed out parallels between Nigeria and her home country of Indonesia. From a fraught political past marked by British colonial rule to male headgears and local board games (Nigeria’s ayo is referred to as congklack in Indonesia), she expressed surprise at the similarities between both countries.
Closing out the tour, Art Tech District founder, Mosope Olaosebikan reiterated the company’s commitment to inclusive and expansive development. Listing out projects such as the Zero Hunger Food Bank which works with company’s restaurants to feed young children monthly, the Financial Independence and Digital Women’s Initiative which caters to over 11,000 women in rural areas, as well as the SteamBox and Civic X Digital Literacy for children, Olaosebikan revealed that while the world headed towards technology at a quick pace, Art Tech District remains dedicated to including members of its rural community who are disproportionately affected by poverty and other factors.

Thanking the team for the tour, World Bank Managing Director described her time at the museum as “a very sensory experience and a really great way to learn about Nigeria.” Leaving the compound, she also congratulated the team on finding a creative way to talk to tell the Nigerian story.

“As we look towards the future, we are excited and passionate about doing more. Currently, we are working on another Discovery Museum located in Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos,” Olaosebikan said when asked about the company’s plans. “Similarly, we are looking to expand beyond our shores, setting up museums in South, East, and other cities in West Africa. While we are excited about the future, we are also passionate about holding on to our rich and complex history.”

What do you guys think, is the guy rational, ridiculous, or with delirium?

BusinessRe: Nigeria Holds 29% Africa’s Total Oil Reserve – OPEC by Conwarden: 3:59pm On Nov 11, 2021
NwaNimo1:
The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has said Africa’s proven oil reserves reached 126 billion barrels in 2019, with Nigeria having 36.9bn, which is about 29 per cent of the continent’s total reserves.

OPEC Secretary General, Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, stated this at the African Energy Week (AEW) 2021 in Cape Town, South Africa, where he also spoke about a bright look for Africa.

“Africa’s potential refining capacity is expected to start increasing in 2022 at just below 0.4 million barrels per day (mb/d0, before reaching just above 1mb/d in 2026. Many of these projects will involve petrochemical integration.”

With over 36.9bn barrels of oil and 200 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, Nigeria has emerged as one of Africa’s biggest energy sectors, attracting significant levels of investment and driving project developments across the entire energy value chain.

Through a complete sectoral restructuring, and by capitalizing on progressive legislature and national energy policies to accelerate investment post-COVID-19, Nigeria has made a strong case for investment especially with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) signed in July 2021.

Speaking during the Nigeria country spotlight session at the event, Governor of OPEC for Nigeria, Dr Adedapo Odulaja, said, “It is not that the PIA will be a game-changer, it is already a game-changer and the game is already changing. In the weeks to come, everyone will see this. A lot of investors and people who want to invest in the industry are already looking critical and taking more of an interest in it.”

What is going on in Northern Nigeria is the second Nigerian civil war which is worse than the first Nigerian civil war in Eastern Nigeria.

Nigeria is at war with the Boko Haram, officially known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād an Islamic seccessionist army fighting for the Islamization of the predominantly Muslims states of Northern Nigeria to establish a Caliphate

The Boko Haram War started in 2009, Boko Haram has killed tens of thousands of people, including officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
It is currently the longest war in Africa and has resulted in the deaths of more than 300,000 children and over 3.2 million displaced people, including hundreds of thousands of refugees with the worst humanitarian crisis since the first civil war against Biafra.

The Boko Haram army has more arms than Biafra and threatening the existence of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a secular nation.

CelebritiesRe: Gbemi O, Claire And Akah Nnani, Funmilayo Falola Talk Love & Money At ALAT Talk by Conwarden: 3:47pm On Nov 11, 2021
Sidiqqahn:
- ALAT by Wema held the third edition of its ALAT Talk Series last Thursday
- The event featured speakers Akah and Claire Nnani, Soul Spice and Funmilayo Falola and was moderated by Gbemi O
- The event was aimed at helping young Nigerians make important financial decisions while in relationships.

OAP Gbemi O joined YouTube couple Akah and Claire Nnani, clinical sexuality coach, Hannah Jonathan (Soul Spice), and Wema Bank’s Head of Marketing Communications and Investor Relations, Funmilayo Falola, to discuss the relationships, sex and finances at the just concluded ALAT Talk Series 3.

Over 300 attendees joined the event via Zoom and Facebook Live to watch each speaker discuss how to balance a demanding career, with relationships, finances, and sex and learn from everyone who shared their individual experiences.

The Nnanis shared insights into their relationship and how they’ve been able to balance work and family. For Akah, “Trust is important in all our dealings. We trust each other in setting boundaries and understanding each other’s perspectives while managing our business together.” Claire added that “It is hard not to see each other as competition, especially when you are working in the same space, but understanding your strengths is key.”

Clinical sexuality coach, Hannah Jonathan, gave a scintillating talk on how sex and intimacy affect the longevity of many relationships in Nigeria: “Most couples do not set boundaries early in their relationship and are easily influenced by work, friends, and family, which leads to stress. This stress causes frustration, leaving one party sexually frustrated and then they go outside and engage in extramarital affairs to fill the space.”

Funmilayo Falola, Head, Marketing Communications and Investor Relations, Wema Bank, speaking on ‘Juggling finance and relationship decisions’, spoke about combining work with caring for her family. She said, “Most couples that struggle with finances do not have conversations about their financial goals and how they intend to achieve them. This causes friction in the marriage.”

She added, “ALAT is committed to improving financial literacy among young Nigerians by providing them with the tools and services to make the right financial decisions, especially in situations like marriages and relationships.”

The ALAT Talk Series is a virtual session for young Nigerians organized by ALAT by Wema to exchange ideas and insights about life, relationships, technology, and finance, offering them informed opinions from experts and other experienced young professionals who are knowledgeable in various areas.

PoliticsRe: Ikono People Commend Gov Emmanuel For New Road Projects by Conwarden: 11:15am On Nov 11, 2021
edikandavid:
Ikono leaders and stakeholders have poured encomiums on Governor Udom Emmanuel for his concerted efforts in embarking on several turnkey projects in their communities.

The Ikono people believe that the Governor has performed creditably in their locality, a far departure from the state of abandonment that plagued the area previously.

The latest projects being new roads approved by the State Government on Wednesday.

In a statement he personally signed, Mr Nyakno Uwemedimo Okoibu, the Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, sincerely appreciated "the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel for the approval of the construction of 21.5KM Ikot Ayan Ediene - Ikot Ntia - Urua Naira - Ikot Nseyen - Nkwot - Nung Ukim road with 45M Span bridge in Ikono Local Government Area."

The chairman maintained that, "Your Excellency, it is clear that you bestrode the saddle with the blueprint of engendering a massive infrastructural renaissance and this, we the cradle of Ibibio Nation, are very grateful for."

"We are also very pleased with your revolutionary strides in all facets of the state's economy.

"Thank you for all you did in times past, what you are doing today and what you will do tomorrow," Mr Okoibu said.

On his part, the Immediate Past Chairman of Ikono, Mr. Itoro Columba wrote:
"His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel has graciously approved the construction of the "Ikot Ayan-Urua Naira- Ikot Nseyen- Nkwot-Nung Ukim Road" with 45m-span bridge.

"God bless you, Governor Udom Emmanuel.'

Mr Columba said that, 'Posterity will be eternally grateful to you for the golden era Ikono is enjoying from your government. Glory!".

*Governor Emmanuel: Exhibiting Evidences of a people-centred administration*

It is of no doubt that when the righteous are in power, the people rejoice.
When government is able to address the needs of its people, especially at the grassroots, the result is an overwhelming acceptance and support for it's programmes and policies.

Another indigene of Nkwot, Ikono, David Akpan took to the social media to express his thoughts, saying.

"Governor Nnyin, you have no idea what you've done for Nkwot people by giving approval for the construction of the 21.5KM Ikot Ayan Ediene - Ikot Ntia - Urua Naira - Ikot Nseyen - Nung Ukim Road with 45M span bridge in Ikono LGA".

"You'll understand better Sir when you finally come to commission that road upon completion.

"Nkwot has been maligned and neglected for ages forcing us to conclude that we're probably not part of Ikono".

"Traversing that stretch has been a nightmare for ages due to the deplorable state of that road. For thinking it wise to come to our rescue, bringing to an end years of tears and deceit by previous administrations, Nkwot people assure you of our unalloyed loyalty and support to the very end".

"We are grateful your Excellency, God bless you and grant you grace to finish the project".

"With more still coming, the State Government is determined to fulfill all of its promises to her people. We should therefore hold fast to the course of the completion agenda without loosing faith. God bless Governor Udom Emmanuel", he added.

Governor Emmanuel had earlier reconstructed and remodeled the General Hospital at Ikono and commissioned a College of Health Technology road that preludes the newly awarded road.

RomanceRe: Quick Tip On How To Psychologically Programme Your Girlfriend On Ur First Date by Conwarden: 11:15am On Nov 11, 2021
BadRadio:
Tell your self some home truth about what you can offer a woman before u ask her out. If you know you dont expect a lady to be bugging you with bills then do this...

On your first date say this to her.

"I like you because you are independent, you are hardworking and you foot ur own bills... u dont need a man to do anything for you... rather, you are ready to do everything for him... u are ready to give all and take nothing back in return"grin

That's how u programme a lady. If she's in for u and not for what you have she'll stay and try to be everything you've pictured her to be, like be an independent hardworking woman that foots her own bills. But if she wants you to take care of all her bills then she will go after hearing you say all that crap to hergrin

RomanceRe: I Realized My 6 Months Old Girlfriend Smokes by Conwarden: 11:12am On Nov 11, 2021
Dropme:
I know I will definitely receive some bashing here on romance section but wetin man go do?

A quick one!

I have this babe I met few(6) months ago, very gentle looking and an introvert. Sincerely I really love her and she's reciprocating and also she's very supportive and attentive.

We aren't really sexually active in d relationship, as we only had sex twice since we met.

But just yesterday, while we were chatting she complained of being tired always, and she concluded she is pregnant which I tried to overlook during the conversation because I'm sure she is not.

So after telling me about the pregnancy, and she noticed I kept snubbing her, then she went to her status to post a video of her smoking a weed. Immediately I saw this video, I replied and ask if she truly smokes then immediately she went offline.

Immediately, I called a friend of mine who also talks to her and explained d situation, then he said he also saw d video but thinks it might be edited with Snapchat.

I called her this morning, she confirmed she was truly smoking it, because it was in d past.

Swears, this really pained me because over six months she should have at least told me she has done something like that in d past. I'm now finding it hard to trust her

And me I don't care oo, but I don't wanna break person pikin heart, because already I'm thinking of dumping her, but yet, I love her.

Please is there any tendency she still smokes? Though she said she has stopped long ago. I don't wanna marry a sango wife in my house. as in come and see as this babe was puffing with her mouth and nose and ears.

Chaii!!!!
