Before you promise your partner that you are going to marry him or her, I want you to know that failure to fulfill that promise of marriage carries huge legal consequences, it does not matter that you made that promise out of a joke or you were not serious when you made that promise, in as much as you have made the promise to marry a person you are under strict legal obligations and you must fulfill that promise of marriage, failure to do that will put you in the law harm’s way.
A promise to marry is seen in law as a contract which can either be oral, expressed or written and breach of a contract attract consequences against the person who committed the breach and this is also applicable in the breach of the contract of promise to marry. Even if it is love story gone wrong, it is first regarded as a contract in law and contracting parties must live up to the contractual terms.
Promise to marry is legally binding on both parties in as much the parties meet up the legal criteria of making such contract which is the ages of the parties is very crucial and there must also be consideration furnished for it to be legally enforceable.
In the case of Mabamije V. Otto (2016) LPELR 26058 (SC) Mr. Otto promised to marry Ms. Mabamije and he he didn’t fulfill the promise. Ms. Mabamije sued Mr. Otto for the beach of the promise, she claimed 20 million Naira as damages, she also prayed the court for an order to compel Mr. Otto to fulfill promise of marrying her. The won the case at the high court but case went on to Supreme Court, although Ms. Mabamije lost the case at the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court due to technicalities of the law of estoppel (which we may not go into details today) but the courts emphasized that promise to marry is a contract and parties must live up to the contract terms and breach of that promise carries legal consequences.
Also, in the case of Miss Chinye A.M. Ezennah v. Alhaji Mahmoud I. Atta 3PLR (2004) 40 (SC) popularly quoted as Ezennah v. Atta, the Supreme Court per Niki Tobi Jsc stated inter alia “…. an agreement or contract to marry is a bilateral affair between a man and a woman, both partires must be ad idem in respect of any collateral transaction relating to the intended marriage and breach of that promise is enforceable against the person who breached”.

AlexEnemanna: No fewer than four ex-cult leaders at the weekend denounced their membership following a crusade organised by an anti-cult group, Thunderbolt Rescue Mission at the University of Calabar as part of its advocacy against cultism and sundry crimes in the academic institutions across Nigeria.
They were said to have been touched by the message of the crusade titled, "Come Back" which centered on losses associated with cultism.
In his ministration at the 2-day crusade, the President and Founder, Vision Savers Global Outreach, an anti-cult organization, Pst Emmanuel Obasi urged the students to ignore undue pressure to join any secret cult, warning that it leads to self-destruction and can pose a threat to their future.
The cleric, an ex-cult leader revealed that cultists will attempt to lure their soft targets with enticing words, advising the youths to ignore such pressure as cultism remains a profitless venture.
"You saw the expression on the faces of the students. They are shocked that a cultist can denounce. Those intending to join, their eyes were opened to see that there is nothing in cultism.
"The cultists have an evil way of packaging cultism to be a good thing. But with our ministration, they have been able to know the dangers of cultism.
"Anyone who joins after our campaign here, especially those that attended the crusade is doing so out of personal volition.
"We have also empowered them to withstand the pressure of going back again. They have been taught how to live above fear and threat. We have embedded them with capacity to do that" he said.
He announced that the campaign is targeting other higher institutions in the South particularly Abia, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Rivers and Uyo.
Pst Obasi however said technical and financial constraints have remained topmost challenges in the mission.
He therefore called on individuals, groups and corporate organizations to partner with the groups in its efforts to lend support to bring to the barest minimum cultism and related activities in our environment.

When I got into the university, I had this unforgettable experience. Every night, I saw a few groups of students going to read. They would leave their hostels around 9pm and return by 6am to prepare for lectures.

God1000: The US has reportedly decided to send extra fighter jets including F-22 Raptors, F-35 Lightning II, B2 stealth bombers to Australia to deter possible Chinese military aggression and threats from North Korea The unclassified report, the summary of which was revealed on November 29, highlights the US’ vast military capabilities and the Biden administration’s strategic priorities, which include dealing with China’s military build-up.
Following a review of US military resources throughout the world, the Pentagon sought to enhance bases in Guam and Australia to confront China. Improvements are expected to begin next year and will include airfields that will help the US Department of Defense get troops in and out of the region rapidly for drills, deployments, or a potential confrontation.
“You’ll see new rotational fighter and bomber aircraft deployments in Australia,” said Mara Karlin, the US Department of Defense’s deputy under-secretary for policy. The review, which was ordered by President Biden in February, is one of several defense-policy assessments expected to be released in the coming months.
Recent developments, such as the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, China’s rising military aggression toward Taiwan, and a dangerous Russian military buildup near the Ukrainian border, make such analyses all the more relevant.
The increased aircraft rotations in Australia are an indication that the US is moving forward with the strategy as a major pillar of its tougher defense posture to deter China. These aircraft could include B2 stealth bombers, as well as F-22 and F-35 stealth fighter jets.
Post AUKUS Cooperation
After the trilateral defense agreement with the United States and the United Kingdom, Australia is slated to receive nuclear-powered submarines. But the objective of AUKUS is much bigger than submarines and Australia. The new accord is a critical component of Washington’s efforts to keep China from acquiring military dominance in the region.
The US military’s ability to act freely in Asian waterways and airspace has been hindered by China’s growing arsenal of missiles directed at US bases in Japan, Guam, and warships. In September, Washington and Canberra announced that they will expand the rotational deployment of US military aircraft in Australia and expand their cooperation to include the maintenance of US naval warships in the country.
Additionally, the governments also stated that they would undertake more integrated drills and collaborate with other regional allies and partners. In February, the Biden administration initiated a force posture review seeing what improvements the US military’s presence, resources, and strategy would be needed throughout the world. Experts feel that the AUKUS initiative is the first fruit of such a process.
Rotational deployments of the US Air Force in Australia include bombers capable of carrying anti-ship missiles to deter Chinese warships in the region. Experts believe that the US Navy is expected to request access to the HMAS Stirling facility in Perth for its nuclear-powered submarines.
Cocos Island, an Australian territory in the Indian Ocean, is well suited to observing approaches from the west towards the disputed South China Sea.
The rotational deployment illustrates how Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s government is becoming alarmed by China’s fast naval expansion.
US Deploying ‘Most Advanced Aircraft’?
The top US Air Force official in the Pacific indicated in September that the service was keeping its options open about which military jets will become part of an enlarged American presence in Australia. Pacific Air Forces commander Gen. Kenneth Wilsbach told reporters at the annual Air Force Association conference that the aircraft with which Australia will agree – will be deployed., including F-35s, F-22s, and B-52s, as well as B-1s.
The US Air Force regularly conducts drills with the Royal Australian Air Force and deploys bombers to the continent on a regular basis. Both are part of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program and the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing agreement with the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Canada. In July, the US Air Force deployed more than two dozen F-22 stealth fighters to a training exercise in the western Pacific, an unusually huge deployment of the powerful jets that observers believe, sent a strong message to China.
For Operation Pacific Iron 2021, about 25 F-22 Raptors from the Hawaii Air National Guard and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, were deployed to Guam and Tinian islands.
The F-22s are fifth-generation fighter jets that include stealth technology and combine onboard sensor systems with off-board information systems to provide their pilots with a complete view of the fighting environment. These fighters were accompanied by two C-130J transport aircraft from the 374th Airlift Wing at Yokota Air Base in Japan.
Similarly, at least three B-52 bombers from North Dakota’s Minot Air Force Base were deployed to Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. The bombers are frequently accompanied by KC-135 tankers.
I guess it must be part of the AUKUS agreement. But really China and their annexation of sea routes has to be contained.

A Ghanaian school boy has been caught by the aiprot officials trying to relocate abroad by hiding inside plane's engine, Siggy reports.
A viral video shared on instagram by @ has shown a boy coming down from an aeroplane's engine after security agents caught him.
The boy had 'perfectly' hid himself and his bag in the engine, close to the propeller without thinking about safety.
Social media users have since dropped comments to this happening; @callme.the.lieutenant said: "His move can send the whole passengers on that plane to their untimely grave."
How can someone who wants to remain alive to enjoy life in another country, choose to hide inside propeller? Poor boy must have left his senses behind in a hurry to japa.

Nigerians can now apply for houses built under the current Federal Government’s National Housing Programme (NHP) in 34 states of the country following the launch, Friday of the portal by the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN through which interested members of the public could apply for allocation.
The formal launch of the portal, https:// nhp.worksandhousing.gov.ng, which took place at the Conference Room of the Ministry in Mabushi, Abuja, throws open the door for Nigerians to apply online to buy the available 5,000 plus housing units, ranging from 1, 2 to 3 bedroom bungalows and blocks of flats in any location of their choice.
In his remarks at the ceremony, which was attended by prominent stakeholders and media executives including the President, Nigeria Guild of Editors, Mr. Mustapha Isah, Fashola said the decision by the Ministry to sell the available houses online was to bring credibility to the exercise and reduce human intervention as well as give all categories of buyers a level playing field.
The Minister told his audience, “We converge here just to introduce a portal on which the National Housing Programme pilot will be offered for sale to the public. What that means is that we will not be selling printed forms, the forms are online and this allows for more openness, limits human intervention and any disposition to any underhand practice”.
Clarifying that the decision to adopt online sale of forms and limit human intervention was not an indictment of the staff, he added, “It is just to make the system more accountable and people seeing credibility if they win and if they are not successful they will equally know that the system has at least given them a fair chance”.
Fashola, who described the launch of the portal as “the end game of our economic objective”, explained that the government did not just set out to build houses, adding that the project has served many purposes, the first of which was to test what sort of houses Nigerians would like to live in so as to make policies to guide its agencies and parastatals, as well as other stakeholders, to build what could be acceptable in the markets.
“We are the policy head of those parastatals like the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and so on. We are saying that the National Housing Programme had not succeeded in the past and some of the houses built then still remain empty. So we conducted a national survey across the zones just to find out what is acceptable”, the Minister said.
The findings, he said, were that while in the Northern part of the country there was preference for bungalow and large expanse of land which encouraged building horizontally, in the Southern part, there seemed to be acceptance for blocks of flats and lack of space which made building vertically necessary.
Emphasizing that the current National Housing Programme is a pilot or demonstration scheme meant, among others, to galvanize private sector participation, Fashola explained further, “We applied for land from the states and we set out to do a demonstration or a pilot programme because we then wanted to validate what we saw and build a pilot scheme”.
“So as at today we have built 5,000 plus units in different stages of completion. We have done in Phase 1 and we have done in Phase 2 and some have started in Phase 3”, the Minister reiterated adding that the other purpose the scheme has served was to fulfill part of the objectives of the administration’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).
He added, “It was also a way to implement our Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) because as at the time we conceived this programme, the country was in recession”, expressing delight that it has fulfilled that objective because over 1,000 contractors were engaged on the building sites; “businesses owned by Nigerians and Nigerian contractors”.
Pointing out that no foreign contractor was engaged in the project, Fashola added that it was not only an opportunity for nation building but an opportunity for the contractors to sustain their staff.
In his goodwill message after the launch, President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Mr. Mustapha Isah, commended the Federal Government for its commitment to housing delivery. He also commended the Minister for the innovations he has brought to bear at the national level, which, according to him, was a replication of his development initiatives as Governor in Lagos State.
Also in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Babangida Hussaini commended President Buhari and the Minister for their commitment to programmes and projects that promote prosperity for the citizens and grow the nation’s economy.
Aside the NGE President, other media personalities present were the Special Assistant, Digital/New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Tolu Ogunlesi, the Secretary General of the NGE and Editor, Nation’s Capital, THISDAY Newspaper Group, Mr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren and the Deputy-Editor, BusinessDay Newspaper, Abuja Bureau Office, while from the Ministry, were Directors, Special Advisers and other top officials as well as Media Correspondents.

An effort to have Texans vote on whether they want to secede from the United States is gaining the support of at least one state lawmaker.
Rep. Kyle Biedermann of Fredricksburg said he plans to file a bill that calls for a referendum on the effort to leave the U.S.
"The federal government is out of control and does not represent the values of Texans," Biedermann said in a statement. "That is why I am committing to file legislation this session that will allow a referendum to give Texans a vote for the State of Texas to reassert its status as an independent nation."
The effort has been championed by the Texas Nationalist Movement, an organization headed by Daniel Miller, who has been promoting the idea of secession for 20 years.

"Texans are tired of living under 180,000 pages of federal laws, rules, and regulations administered by 440 separate agencies and 2.5 million unelected bureaucrats," Miller said Wednesday. "If all federal laws, rules, and regulations were printed out and stacked, it would be taller than the San Jacinto Monument."
The proposed bill would join hundreds of others filed ahead of the 87th Texas Legislature, which is scheduled to convene in January.
Despite the idea, as a practical matter and matter of law, secession isn't an option in the nation.
Historical and legal precedents make it clear that Texas could not pull off a Texit - at least not legally.
"The legality of seceding is problematic," Eric McDaniel, associate professor of government at the University of Texas at Austin, said to the Texas Tribune in 2016. "The Civil War played a very big role in establishing the power of the federal government and cementing that the federal government has the final say in these issues."

Texas became an independent nation in 1836 and remained that way until its admission into the Union in 1845. Texas left the United States once before on Feb. 1, 1861, a sore point for then-Gov. Sam Houston, who refused to swear allegiance to the Confederate States of America. After the Civil War and Reconstruction of the 1860s, Texas was fully re-admitted into the Union in 1870.
Since then, there's been no shortage in another secession debate. Over the years, there have also been calls to divide Texas into five separate states.
As of Wednesday morning, Biedermann had not filed the bill, according to the Texas Legislature bill search website.

His innocence was proved through after the BBC documentary on Dontae's fight for justice. He was granted a full pardon by the governor. Dontae Sharpe had fought to prove his innocence since his 1994 arrest. He was released from prison in August 2019.

"My family's name has been cleared," he told reporters on Friday. "It's a burden off of my shoulders and my family's shoulders." The news follows a BBC documentary on the miscarriage of justice in his case. Mr Sharpe's story highlighted how it can take years to get a full pardon even after a person is exonerated and wins their freedom.

Governor Roy Cooper said in a statement announcing the pardon that he had carefully reviewed the case, and those who have been wrongly convicted like Mr Sharpe "deserve to have that injustice fully and publicly acknowledged". With the full pardon, Mr Sharpe will be able to file a request for compensation from the state. "My freedom still ain't complete as long as there are people wrongfully in prison, wrongfully convicted, and people waiting on pardons," Mr Sharpe added.

"I've been in there and know there are guys that are innocent and know that our system is corrupt and needs to be changed." Mr Sharpe is a fellow with Forward Justice, where he advocates for criminal justice reform in North Carolina. He was convicted on a first-degree murder charge over the killing of George Radcliffe. Months after the trial, a teenage eyewitness for the state recanted her testimony. It still took over two decades for Mr Sharpe to be exonerated and released from prison.
