Giltwise:
@Chukwuka16 well done for the detailed response to @coolcube questions.

@coolcube, PLEASE do not pay to do a PhD outside Nigeria, it is crazy and suicidal to do so. Do everything within your capacity to get funding. I can guide you on that if interested. There are one thousand and one scholarship and studentship positions available (check findaphd/com and jobs/ac/uk). Also, you can write a solid, well researched proposal and target a top PI who will likely have a grant. Target schools in Australia, UK, Europe and SA as Chukwuka suggested. I repeat PLEASE do not try to pay for a PhD. It is not worth it. You will be drained by the end of your programme if you want post PhD life. Imagine, working round the clock to pay school fees, bills and you still want to publish in top rated journals. My brother, one must suffer for the other. Don't just get a PhD, get a worthy one.

Above all, seek for divine guidance.

Peace
Thanks

Chukwuka16:
Living in the UK, hmmm……

First things first – please setup an urgent appointment with your cleric and advise them to organise a series of prayer sessions for you to BANISH THAT THOUGHT OF BEING A LECTURER IN NIGERIA – Those dreams are from village people. You do not want to be having such dreams now as you are too young to be planning FRUSTRATION. I appreciate your love for lecturing in Nigeria, but my advice will be for you to start your career as a researcher overseas and then decide what next to do about that your dream of lecturing back in Nigeria. You need the abroad experience to build your self-worth which Nigeria helps to dampen. You also need money (a lot of it) to enjoy lecturing in Nigeria and even forget that ASUU/salary exists. You don’t want to be that frustrated lecturer who takes out his/her frustration on innocent students. You also want to have pleasant experiences from your time abroad to benchmark your lecturing journey in Nigeria.

Next is the PhD. I congratulate you on your PhD journey so far in Nigeria. May the good Lord lighten your burden. Many years ago, it was gay to be having a PhD from Stanford and MIT and Harvard and those fancy names. Later, it was chic to be having your PhD from the UK, Canada, USA, Australia etc. Today, where you have your PhD is Irrelevant if (1) it is accredited and (2) you have your research published in the top journals. My advice for you would be to research possible PhD opportunities in South Africa – UCT, UKZN, UP, DUT, TUT etc. Get on ResearchGate and connect with Nigerians there and leverage that in getting a placement. We used to review apps from Nigerians and get our friends into SA for PhD with funding in our labs. You are sure of some funding (bursary with teaching duties) or a cheaper deal than the UK. Additionally, you are sure of world class research facilities with opportunities to go overseas for conferences/workshops. Please note that PhD in UKZN is free! I was sponsored by NRF/TWAS and had tutor gigs within the dept and had enough money to be flying to Pretoria (Sunnyside) just to look for plantain (millennial issues).

However, while in South Africa, you must do all within you to publish and publish and publish in the very best and top-rated journals (Impact Factor greater than 5 as a minimum). In my former lab here in the UK, the head was ready to recruit my friend to the UK and pay him £40K simply because of his MAD publication profile – We lost him to a research lab in Israel. There is something called REF (Research Excellence Framework) here in the UK every 5 years and it’s basically ranking UK HEI’s based on their publication output and where (journal IF). This is important because it determines how much funding they get from the government (more important now as funding is becoming scarce like unicorns). That is why you see them every 5 years recruiting new hands and highlighting publications as an important criterion. You want to be ready for the next round.

Why do I advise you to consider South Africa? Time. Here in the UK, your PhD can last from 3.5-5 years depending on your supervisor and between 4-7 years in the US. I did mine in South Africa in 18 months (finished with depression and 11 publications). You may not do yours in 18 months but with good publications (3-5) you can be done within 2.5 – 3 years with even a postdoc waiting for you to calm you down. I was recruited straight out of South Africa before graduation to the UK and currently in my 3rd job (millennial problems) working in a think tank and with a world class team. Nobody has ever asked me about where I did my PhD. I have even had the editor of a world class journal (IF of 27) visit me all the way from the US and invite me to do a badass piece in his journal on top my African PhD.

A UK PhD WILL NOT ADD ANY BENEFIT TO YOUR CAREER IN TODAY’S WORLD EVEN IF IT’S FROM OXFORD. It will cost you your arm and your leg and even leave you frustrated and drained but with extra shoulder pad for bragging – I have my doctorate from Oxforrrrd. You also don’t want to be burdening us with gofundme which is rising at alarming rates nowadays or subject your better half to working jobs she may not be ok with all because you want a UK PhD.

In all, please always ask the Good Lord for direction. I’m a firm believer that one can never get lost with His guidance.

I wish you the best.
Thanks for this. You have raised some valid points. I assume you in the sciences. I am in the humanities. Can you share links on the SA universities?

Why not get admission for PhD instead of another masters .. since you have a wife she can work and together you contribute for the tuition. She allowed to work full time so its is possible. Although depends on how young the kids are . Working as a team around childcare and finances its possible

Regarding job after, I cannot comment as I don't know anything about that field
Thanks for this.

Actually, I considered the straight PhD but then I also though about blending into their academic environment first. Besides, I am in the humanities and the UK study module is quite different from ours here.

Please I need the opinion of those living in the UK on this. I would be grateful to find help.

My dream is to be a lecturer here in Nigeria and I am currently on a PhD in one of the federal institutions, but the demands of work as the head of a publishing firm isn't allowing the work to progress as I'ld love. I am therefore considering relocating to the UK with my wife and kid to study for another Masters and then follow up with a PhD. But my fear is that the tuition in UK would kill me. Although the Master's tuition won't be a problem, but to pay around £18,000 every year for PhD might be difficult considering I'll only have 20 hours to work per week. I wish to ask those already in the UK, if it possible to raise that much every year with the support of my wife. My thinking (Correct me if I am wrong) is that a PhD from UK would enhance my career prospect in the UK and any other advanced countries of the world, should I decide to stay back.

I look forward to your opinions.

BusinessHow Can I Get GIFMIS Code? by Coolcube(op): 8:47pm On May 19, 2021
I am executing a contract with a Federal Government Agency and the Director of Finance said before I can be paid, I need to register for GIFMIS Code and give it to them, instead of the bank account detail which I provided.

The Director directed me to go to FIRS to get registered for the Code, but to my amazement, most of the FIRS staff in the state where I live do not even know what the code is all about. Some of those who seem to have an idea said I should first revalidate my company TIN.

Please if you are in the private sector and have successfully register for GIFMIS Code, kindly put me through. I need help.

Doing business in Nigeria isn't easy, and to cap it, dealing with Government agencies and staff makes it worse.

You must be joking,

His family terrorised him because he changed to Christian, pls don't pretend as if you don't know how Muslims behave when a family change to the dark side as they call it

And I know his wealth is what made you think it was the other way round, do you think he was rich right from inception? He suffered to be where he is today, his family dealt with him

When God started favouring him and became where he is today, the money entered their eyes then they began saying all manner of rubbish just to paint him bad and form innocent, when it didn't work, they started converting little by little to eat from him.

Landmark University was because of his family, they wanted him to invest in his home town which is not bad, which he did, they all have a stake in it.
You know him truly. I wont mention his muslim name here. My aunt was in the same class with him while my granny was the head mistress.

CelebritiesRe: Toye Arulogun Reacts As Yinka Ayefele Accuses Him Of Demolishing His Building by Coolcube: 2:52pm On Aug 20, 2018
obembet:
JUST BEFORE YOU GET EMOTIONAL AMD CONCLUDE WRONGLY.

There are intricate lessons to be learnt from the demolition. I have decided to take the lessons rather than being emotional. I knew the building will be pulled down if not now then later. If not by this government, then by a later government. Why are we being emotional about this demolition? Oh because it's owned by Ayefele or because it is a radio station? Definitely whichever of the two reasons is not above the law of the land which is subject to a lot of interpretations. Has any one drove from Idi Ape through Bashorun to Akobo? Those buildings pulled down were owned by people like Ayefele. The businesses there employed people too. Oh because we assumed that they were not physically challenged or owned a radio station? When Barrister Lowo Obisesan held away as a Oyo Commissioner, he went about restoring the beauty of the land by pulling down everything that needed to be pulled down thus making Ibadan a beauty to behold. A lot of bread winners were affected. Same FRESHFM supported him back then. So now the chicken has come home to roost. Let's not crucify Ajimobi, Ajimobi has no single power to effect any demolition. The demolition was done by the OYSG. By May 29 2018, Ajimobi would walk away as a private person. The OYSG would always be here with us. Another man would mount the saddle as a Governor. Governance would continue. Our dear UCH lost its fence worth about N12million to that road in front of the Hospital. I doubt if we have been paid for it. This is an opportunity for politicians to score cheap points. I'll rather these politicians come together, pulled resources together and build another befitting Music House that in years to come would not fall 'foul' of government environmental laws. Government is like Management. Decisions are taken a times that we do not understand and feel shouldn't have been taken. But the government like the management still has to take a decision irrespective of whose ox is gored, irrespective of if we like it or not, irrespective of if it favors us or not. A government or management who lacks the will to take a decision has no moral latitude to be called a government or a management. However, if like it's being guessed that the demolition was to silence the opposition, then too bad. There area about 27 other radio stations in Ibadan alone. I seriously doubt if OYSG will want to muzzle the media.

They told me this has been on for 7 years that Akala out of impunity bent the rules and roads for Yinka and no way it will not haunt him forever. Now a demolition of a year was sent to him to come rectify the adjustment.he refused. At the expiration of d 1 year.they served a 3days notice on him which expired on wednesday. The buldozer did not come that day only for yinka to rush to sue the government on thursday.Meanwhile courts are on break and case yet to be heard.no court injunction served.Yinka n fans continued to sentimentally insult Ajimobi and even Dapo Lam Adesina was at the station yesterday bashing Ajimobi.

He now went ahead to pull down the illegal structure in question and not d entire building. Now egbon what is on that land that yinka is scared to leave.Remember his scandal with Erelu Agbaye who claimed they gave him fame.Yinka could have gone to Akala to help intervene and relocate him to another place.!!!!!
If I don't live in Ibadan nor have relevant facts, I could accept your comment as being true. But because I live in Ibadan and have relevant facts, I will try to shed a little light on the issue.

From the basics, if you have a valid plan for your building and the government wants to construct roads, the building might have to give way or reduced and compensation paid. Applied to the building in question, when the dualisation of the road in front of the building commenced by this same governor, Abiola Ajimobi, why wasn't the structure demolished? Why now? If the building, even in entirety, had been demolished then, no sane thinking person would complain of it being politically motivated.

As a matter of fact, the man has ALL the needed documentations for the land. And the government did not, I repeat did not, say that the building is wrongly situated. In fact, there are evidence that the goverment was collecting tenement charges on the land from the man. The claim of the government was that in the approval he got, he did not indicate that the building would house a radio station. That is the bone of contention.

As you rightly suggested that sentiments should be taken away in looking at this issue. There are about 20+ radio stations in Ibadan, and very few have the approval to use their buildings as radio stations. To inform you, and you can check, the notice was served to some other radio stations in Ibadan using buildings not approved as radio houses. But why didn't they demolish the others? Our dear Ibadan Uncle, Chief Akande's White House in Felele is well known to be a residential place, but currently houses two radio station. Cocoa House Dugbe is an office complex, but there are about 3-5 media houses (radio and television there), did Papa Awolowo envisaged media houses in the building and as such made the necessary documentations?

Oh! I forgot that you mention Dapo Lam-Adesina. Then it could be argued that since those other radio stations served the same notice did not entertain a guest that spoke against the Constituted Authority, Boda Isiaka, they are free. Now I cam make the connection, it was Dapo Lam's interview that served as the last straw which broke the camel's back!

It was a personal fight bro.

Hello,Pastor
Please i consider this a learning phase for you
i have some advise though,
1. Please go close to some pastors with rural branches and others too, ( am sure some will have started from rural branches also) to learn how to cope.
2. Speak to the provincial pastor concerning the need not to do returns, i consider this church as starting afresh and there is a 3 year period of no returns for new parishes.
3.Please as much as possible, formulate the policy and make it know to th church, that any one will need will have to be identified throught their house fellowship members a nd they must be workers, thus they will go throught the process of knowing the church's foundational policies. it was until i became a worker that i got to know the returns policies,
outsides do no know this.
4. Please try and give money as a loan to those who come to u for business ideas and do not have capital. this is for workers and full members,
thus some might return some might not.
but the money will be used to do business that might be able to feed the family
anyone that squaders it will not be in a hurry to come for more borrowing,
and the loan might be a capital.

please dont be tired. God will help you
Only God-fearing Provincial Pastors will give such grace period. And there are few God-fearing PPs in the mission. Most of them are politicians whose allegiance is to a man at top SATGO... the more returns they bring the more they are adjudged as good boys.

*UPDATE ON THE POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL FEES*

*April 4, 2017*

Sequel to meeting we had with the University management and the subsequent changes made to fees payable for Postgraduate students, we had another meeting with the outgoing Dean of the Post Graduate school, who also doubles as the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, for further clarifications of all details.

During the meeting with the Dean, it was made clear that nothing could be done to effect the changes due to the NASU strike that was underway and lasted for about two weeks. Recall that the industrial action crippled activities on campus, including the UI PG school.

Immediately we got wind of NASU'S suspension of strike, we contacted the Dean who then directed us to the Sub Dean of the PG school, Dr Adediran and the Head of ICT of the PG school, Mr Ajayi who are saddled with the responsibility of effecting the changes and clarify all details .

Earlier this morning , 4th April, 2017, we met with Dr Adediran (PG school Sub-Dean) and Mr Ajayi (the Head of Postgraduate School ICT) and the following clarifications and resolutions were made.

*(1)THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE NEW SCHOOL FEES SCHEME AND CHANGES ON THE PORTAL*
We were assured that before the end of this week, all changes would be effected on students' portal while a new invoice reflecting the changes would be made available on the portal.

*(2) PAYMENT IN INSTALLMENTS*
We were also assured that the agreement we had with the University management regarding payments in installments still stand. Thus, both new and returning postgraduate Students who cannot afford full payment could pay in two installments.

*(3) DEADLINE ON PAYMENTS*
We were assured that students have the whole of first semester to pay up their fees. However, fine on late payment of fees would take effect two weeks after the beginning of the second semester.
It is instructive to note that when we pressed for further shifts in payment deadline, we were told that experience from some past students show that some students take advantage of the school's magnanimity to boycott payments of school fees, even after graduation. Hence, both first and second installments must have been paid before the commencement of the second semester exams. Students who have not paid fully would not be allowed to sit for second semester exams.

*(4)ACCESS TO ACCOMODATION*
We were assured that students who pay in installment would have access to accommodation, hence, students that want to pay in installment could do so and use their receipt to process accommodation on campus.

*(5)PRINTING OF PAYMENT INVOICE*
Printing of invoice could be done in two folds; that is, when you log in to your portal, you would see the *"PAY IN FULL* option and the *"FIRST INSTALLMENT"* option. Those who want to pay in full should click the former to print an invoice reflecting the full fee while people who want to pay in installment are expected to click on the latter option to print an invoice reflecting the amount to be paid for first installment .
It should be noted that students who pay their first installment and subsequently want to complete payment would also be required to print another invoice reflecting the amount to be paid for the second installment.
*Kindly note that payments could only be made in two installments and all payments are expected to be made before the deadline to avert payment of fine for late payment.*

*(6)REFUND FOR STUDENTS THAT HAVE PAID*
Students who have paid the initial fee are also expected to seek refund of the amount reduced . A letter should be addressed to the Dean of PG school to apply for refund. A valid bank account details should also be provided in the letter. Be rest assured that your money would be refunded in no time.
For those that are yet to pay, it is still advisable to tarry a bit for the changes to be effected before we pay to avert unnecessary stress. Let us not panic as everything is under control.

*Thank you for your unflinching support, perseverance and cooperation. We await your views, opinions and feedback.*

*SIGNED*
PG COMMITTEE
