My fiancee told my younger brother that she will send him out of my house if we get married. She was joking, but it didn't sound like a joke to me.

Let me tell you how this started. My younger brother told my fiancee jokingly, that he will be sending her on errand anyhow, when she marries me. Although he went too far for saying he will be sending her on errand anyhow. But he has every right to send her on errand because he senior her. She then replied that if my brother do anyhow, when we get married she will ask me to send him away from my house. At this point I stop seeing the whole discussion as joke. I asked her to repeat what she said, she repeated it again (take note: she was saying everything jokingly)

I told her right away that if my brother comes visiting when we get married, she will not send him away. She said she will use her woman power to make me send him away.

She went further to ask me, that if they ask me now to choose between her and my brother who would I choose. I told her I would choose my brother (she could see the seriousness in me).

And I really meant it, any girl that will separate me and my brother will have to use jazz .

This my younger brother established the business that I am doing today. Has done countless number of things for me.

We don't joke with each other, and she knows that.

Chemical engineer in the "abroad".

Many many many chemical engineers are going straight to software if they can code a little, or consulting if their GPAs are super high.

Some even go into banking. Similar or higher starting salary, can work from home, location flexibility, etc. Especially if they have 2-4 years of experience.

Personally, I think that becoming a professional engineer (usually after 3 years experience here), becoming a senior engineer (usually 5+ years depending on the company), is the best option long term. The technical bonafides can never be taken away for life.

Depending on the field, my suggestion is:
- engineer
- professional/chartered engineer
- senior engineer
- move into projects or technical management
- after years as a manager or project manager/engineer, you can then move to non engineering project management, consulting, etc. With the technical bonafides, your earnin potential is unmatched, globally.

Keep your rubbish job offer. My current salary as a software developer is more than enough to compensate for whatever nonsense the oil and gas industry will offer .

Secondly ,I have no any apologies for saying chemical engineering is useless because the reality here is that in Nigeria, chemical engineers are not needed for two reasons :

1. Nigeria does not produce anything other than corruption and illiteracy , and if you were to dedicate your time to studying such in the university , you would later realize that there is :

A. Serious lack of job opportunities (and don't tell me you can create your own job opportunities, because that is often too capital intensive)

B. Unfavorable employment opportunities being given individuals or disciplines not related to the chemical industry, which often stems from godfatherism and connections (a fine example would be your president )



2. The future of engineering lies in artificial intelligence, and that means that the demand for chemical engineers will likely die out in the next 5-10 years because many chemical processes (especially in chemical engineering) can be automated by machine and computers . Which is why on the rigs , the oyibos automate everything , while the rest of you just do administrative work that can be done by anyone who read administrative studies

There is a lack of chemical engineers in Canada, UK, USA and Australia.

That's why I said, if japa is a possibility, do it but maintain a high GPA.

Then be preparing to do a master's. Since you're interested in programming, you could double as a controls engineer (which is basically a chemical engineer that codes, plays with Simulink)

Be ready to modify your plan slightly for the right person.

Do not change plan o, modify.

In your plan, have very very few absolute non-negotiables, a few negotiable, and that's it.

I'd say to men to have a FIRM plan from day one. Never dabble into marriage.
Decide the type of marriage you want, and then seek out the type of woman that fits into that.
If you find a woman that fits into your plan, marry her. Else, don't marry.
Most of the problems in marriage can be foreseen, and even when unforeseen can be handled if you have the right spouse.
Assuming, for example, that you want to "travel across the desert" (and this is your marriage goal), why choose a horse because of its majestic looks and beauty, when a camel is more capable, though it is not as good looking?

Unless you are a king and never plan to travel across the desert, then get a horse!
