TCF. TEF is "easy" as well.

To do so, get a French A1 - A2 textbook.

Give yourself 2 months to go through the book. This would mean at least 1 chapter a day. For a good textbook and for a beginner, that is at least 3 to 5 hours.

After each textbook, do a complete mock french test. Perhaps do the one you would like to take (TCF or TEF).

I would recommend Vite et Bien. I used Vite et Bien 2 in Canada to learn at YMCA. HEre's a link to download Vite et Bien 1 (A1 and A2): https://www.pdfdrive.com/vite-et-bien-1-a1-a2-m%C3%A9thode-rapide-pour-adultes-e186547341.html

I promise you that it is basically a self study book (at least for Vite et Bien 2).

When I started learning french, french.about.com was by far the best online resource. I believe they do not exist anymore. I believ the lady that ran that site opened her own: https://www.lawlessfrench.com/welcome/about-lkl/

I promise you, at the beginning stage, you need motivation, and internet. My brother uses busuu.com. He has recently gotten to B1 level from complete self study.

I wanted to comment but you've said it all.

It would be cheaper to buy a new watch than to fix one twice. Thats why.

CallmeTrinity:
Mumu op they didn't mean Apple couldn't fix it what he meant was apple couldn't fix it for free because it was outside warranty

So he got it fixed here in Nigeria at a cheaper rate when you convert the dollar to naira

Edit: To all of you quoting me
You are all so foolish and have never traveled out. Do you know how much it costs to fix an out of warranty gadget abroad ? It's easier to just get a new one .

Apple would charge you the price of the latest watch to fix an old and out of warranty one hence why he didnt repair it abroad , stupid people can't understand anything.
There is no way on earth Apple cant fix that watch .. it's the price that scared him. Idiots !
I live in Italy and come home to Edo state regularly

My friend, calm down and face what you came to Canada for.

Also, if you're not a PR, and you have free 5 - 10 hours a week, learn french.

There are specific pathways, including outside Quebec, for French speakers.

You can even use a Nigerian based french teacher to save costs, and help the naija economy.

With reference to this thread I made when I knewly moved to Canada.

I have some gist for you. Eight months after I moved to Canada I was able to taste pussy, thanks to a beautiful Uganda lady.

Lemme tell you, when I was in Nigeria, I used to hear that oyibo dey rush black men. When I got here I realised it was all fallacies and lies. Oyibo women doesn't give a fvck about black men except you are a celebrity, rich athletic or sports personality or one rich popular dude.

The same pussy I change every week in Nigeria was what took me Eight months to see here.

There's money here once you are working and there are Jobs everywhere in Canada, but working without pussy sometimes is not really cool.

Some of them can be tempting, while I was waiting for bus at a bus stop, two girls were dancing and shaking yansh for me, not that they like or want you, but they just wanna do it. Just ignore them and swallow saliva, you will be alright

Jobs/VacanciesRe: What's Your Salary Expectations? by cooooooks(m): 10:20pm On Mar 13, 2023
I understand your comment with regards to quality, and agree with it.

One of the first things I did was review the hiring process. Making it seamless for all and easily weed out non capable people before a face to face interview (saving my time).

However, I think your comment was focused on accepted salary being (highly) indicative of quality. This, I disagree with.

Shoodboi:
You're correct with family wide benefits keeping people. On hiring people with high salaries, it's possible to hire an idiot and pay them a high salary. I mean, the idiot would have taken the low salary and still stolen from you, so the high salary is just a bonus to them. My comment is targeted at hiring quality employees. Those ones that will only take your job if the salary is high enough to make it worthwhile.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: What's Your Salary Expectations? by cooooooks(m): 10:17pm On Mar 13, 2023
The unaffordability of transport is killing labour mobility within Nigeria, within Port Harcourt.

In my case, I (the company) used to pay half the transport costs of employees.

I think the highest such "bonus" was ~ N7,000.
I think that, by putting the cost of transport in cash, people would be incentivized to find a cheaper route, if at all possible.

However, if the movement is stressful or takes too long, the employee will still resign (if they don't move).

Similarly, I also provided (free) accomodation to another staff. He was a great asset and someone I was grooming to become the principal. So, that investment was well worth it imo. No cost for the accomodation.

If we had expanded, while I was there, to ensure capable staff, especially male, I was ready to provide accomodation for all, for free.

Rubyjade:
These leave next to nothing to even save
Jobs/VacanciesRe: What's Your Salary Expectations? by cooooooks(m): 2:08pm On Mar 13, 2023
Lol. Have to balance this out with output, investment in colleagues and long term future.

Have also hired at relatively high salaries only for people to disappear or even commit fraud.

Being there for colleagues (burials, weddings, illness) is probably a bigger draw.

Before I left, the next thing I wanted to do (to keep staff) was to introduce healthcare.

I think benefits (family wide benefits) is what keeps people.

Shoodboi:
Hire based on value rather than salary. When you hire based on how low the employee is willing to take, you get hungry and desperate cheapskates that will never give you their best. Most will only use the money they get from your job to print more CVs and pay transport fare to interviews.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: What's Your Salary Expectations? by cooooooks(m): 2:04pm On Mar 13, 2023
I used to put salary range in my postings.

In my experience, transport, and relatedly accomodation, is the biggest issue.

Rubyjade:
what happens to employers stating the salary budget ranges for the roles they want to fill before both prospective candidates and hiring managers invest their time and resources in the recruitment process.

Besides, there are many reasons prospective candidates could be asking for higher salary in lieu of what prospective employers want to offer. This could be education, training, current salary, experience, skill, exposure, cost of living, background etc. And this could equally influence one in accepting lower salary.

But I sometime feel that hiring managers ask for one's salary expectation with a motive to pay lower than budget.

Strongly suggest Alliance Francaise for beginners.

You need a french teacher to set you on the right track. Especially with pronunciations and everyday phrases. At least for the first 1 - 2 levels.

They have a semi-intensive, 3 days/afternoons per week, 4-week program and a semi-intensive 8-week weekend program.

Learn the language and be ready to take any exam.

Some schools will do their own in house french testing (for free usually). Some may ask for Duolingo French test (at least many schools use this nowadays instead of IELTS or TOEFL).

Thanks very much for posting this and big congratulations!!!!

Me that recommended, you scored higher than me. grin

To do this in 5 months no be beans, my bro. Most people need 5 months to go from B1 to B2.

My brother, my sister, I take your future beg you, go and apply to Quebec, whether to work or as a student (local tuition rate if the school is outside Montreal in certain STEM, Social work, Health fields).

There are agencies (paid by the government at no cost to you) looking for people to take up jobs in the smaller cities and rural towns of QC. Salaries are high (McDonald's is paying $20/hr and hiring 14-year-olds).

Once again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I'll send your testimony to a couple of family friends who are dragging their feet, even after offering to pay for their french classes.

Spend time in a family format, going out, without (much) money factor. MEET their friends. Spend time gisting with them, the family, siblings, friends, in a RELAXED setting.

Good luck.

I have never looked for racism in Canada. People should stop looking for racism, especially in QC. Nobody cares.

ImpregnaTor:
Racism is over rated abeg

You guys should stop being sissies seeking validation from white people. You were already aware of racism in North America before moving there and u guys still act like soft pussies over there?

I'm sure they only show their racism through body language and not throwing abusing words towards you while walking on the street, so why do u care? Why don't u just ignore their little racist ass and go about your business, since you're already aware of their nature, but oh, you want them to start smiling at you from 3 milles away and presenting you flowers at every junction.

Come on, what do you expect? For them to treat you like a king after failing to develop your country and going there to invade a space you don't belong or related in anyway?

Ignore them, know your worth, and stop allowing white folks dictate the quality of your sleep at night. Stop being a pant; stop the complains!
TravelRe: .... by cooooooks(m): 4:41am On Feb 15, 2023
Exactly.

Quebec with French and, without French, are two distinct experiences.

Putting this here:
https://www.quebec.ca/en/education/study-quebec/financial-assistance-international-students/exemption-additional-tuition-fees-depending-program-region

If you're in IT, Engineering, Nursing, Social Services, for diploma and B.Sc/B.Eng/B.A, (I think M.A for some social services); speak and can study in French; and willing to live outside of Montreal, Quebec is removing international student tuition for you.

Journe:
Quebecois are like that for anyone who can't speak French, I'm not sure it's racism because they would do same to a white person who can't French too
TravelRe: .... by cooooooks(m): 4:37am On Feb 15, 2023
I'm a Quebecker and will dispel this.

The correct thing to say is: "Do not come to Quebec if you don't speak french and have no intention of speaking french imminently".

If you speak french, or want to learn (and have 1 year to spare), Quebec is an AMAZING province.

In terms of education, cost of living, cost of raising a family, Quebec is the best available.

However, you will NEVER enjoy Quebec if you don't speak french to a significant level. Unless you're super rich and/or can open your own business.

Surgeman:
Whatever you do in this life, do not waste your time coming to the province of Quebec. A few other provinces of Canada are the same but my primary focus is Quebec. It is the most racist province in Canada; despite having some supposedly world class universities here in Montreal like McGill and Concordia Universities, most folks born and raised in Quebec are generally ignorant and unwelcoming of other cultures despite the front they put up. Don't take my word for it...do some research and educate yourselves. They despise even their own fellow English speaking countrymen even more so you, a foreigner who was imported from the jungles and deserts of wherever you came from to do jobs they wouldn't touch with a ten inch pole.

In my books, the worst form of racism is the covert kind and it abounds in this land in quantum. Don't say I didn't tell you otherwise you may have to learn from your own experience.

Quebec and Canada is all about the image; the survival of their economy depends largely on immigration and most Africans in their naivete are willing participants of that intricate racket. Yes, they're willing participants but only because they don't have the full facts of the matter. Don't waste your time, money or sell your ancestral lands for this scam. I am shouting this so that the Japa crew and those at the back of the class can hear it. Stay home and develop your country, be there for your family and friends, protect your dignity and self respect. How do you expect to be respected if you'd willingly run away from your homesteads to come be undacover slaves in a foreign land? No be juju be that?

Yes I'm aware, they'll ask me why don't I want to come back or even worse, label me a very negative human being but my guy if I had the means, my passport back and a place to stay while I rebuild my life, I wouldn't waste any more time here. You could spend 30 years here, have a wife, children, a career, get a PHd and all the bells but in their eyes, remain a Nigger or chunk with a PHd. There truly is no place like home but like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, you don't realize this until you have left home.

Again, I am not a teacher. My duty is to bring certain issues to public awareness and my job here is done.

Peace.

Check out Herzing College (super expensive).

My advice: physically visit some schools, especially public schools. Try to visit NGOs that serve immigrants. You may even be able to visit employers as well.

As for a direct change of visa, that is a tougher ordeal.

TravelRe: My Girlfriend Doesn't Want To Get Married To Me Before Traveling Abroad by cooooooks(m): 4:26am On Feb 15, 2023
Never beg someone to marry you.

If she wants to go without sponsoring you, no wahala. She is probably concerned that if she applies as a married person, the visa would be denied.

If you guys have not already had a deep discussion, ask the following:
- Tell her you're exceedingly happy at her admission and wish her visa application is approved.
- ask what is her marriage concern? Try to allow her to answer the question by herself. After she has answered (and if necessary), ask if she is concerned that she will be denied if she has family?
- Review your own japa options personally.
- Review your family desires. Do you actually want to marry her? Do you want to have kids now? Are you ready to walk away?

If you insist on marriage pre-travel, and she refuses, break up (or reduce contact).

You two are individuals after it's all said and done.

Lifeinbits:
Myself and my girlfriend have been dating for almost three years that she sometimes stays in my house too. I have always had the intention of traveling abroad but i don't know how, so last year my girlfriend brought the idea of traveling and how she wants to try US study route and i encouraged her to do so. I also supported her so much with my money by helping her to pay her application fee and TOEFL exam. While doing all these, we had a conversation and she told me that if she is able to get a fully funded offer that we will be going together and I will be going with her as dependent. Now my girlfriend has gotten admission but she is yet to apply for visa and she has changed plans. She does not want me to go with her rather she is advising that I should also use the study route ifi want to travel.

Note : we had the intentions of getting married but right now she doesn't want us to get marry.
