After failing to secure a move to Europe, the midfielder returned to Abuja on Monday. Goal reveals what went down in France and why the player’s progress has now been stalled GOAL EXCLUSIVE Goal can authoritatively reveal that it was sheer greed on the part of Nigerian club officials that cost Super Eagles midfielder Sunday Mba the opportunity of kick- starting his professional football career in France with modest French Ligue 2 club CA Bastia in a two- year-deal said to be worth around €1 million. The fans of Bastia had thronged out to welcome the Africa Cup of Nations hero to their city when he arrived last week. They screamed his name every time he was seen through the window of his hotel room: “We love Sunday Mba” and “Welcome to Bastia Sunday Mba, we love you,” they shouted. He had begun to feel at home. But the hope of having the 25-year-old play for their darling club ebbed near European transfer deadline day when the midfielder left France when he realised that forces beyond him would not allow him make progress. Mba jetted back to the country on Monday and moved to the Metropolitan Hotel Camp of the Super Eagles in Calabar on Tuesday after his Bastia deal was thrown to the trash can by the Warri Wolves officials and other two prominent partners involved in the deal. Goal discovered from a prominent contact who was privy to the contract and it was discovered that the sharing of the €150,000 involved as transfer fee was the major cause of the deal not materializing in the first place. Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi allegedly demanded for €50,000 from the deal which Warri Wolves boss Amaju Pinnick perceived was too much and believed that the remaining €100,000 won’t be enough for him and Emmanuel Ibru, who was also involved in the sale of the player, to share. Ibru was involved in the controversial transfer of late Super Eagles defender Olubayo Adefemi before he joined Skoda Xanthi. They all disagreed on Mba putting pen to paper for Bastia unless the transfer fee was jacked up to at least €600,000 so that they could have enough to go share. The player, though not happy, couldn’t help the situation. According to a close friend of his, Mba sobbed uncontrollably in his hotel in France because he had already started feeling at home in Bastia as a result of love and affection shown to him by Bastia fans. Goal can also authoritatively reveal the terms of agreement Mba could have signed with Bastia as follows: If Bastia gains promotion to Ligue 1, they have the right to buy Sunday Mba at a preferential price of €800,000 minus the amount they have already paid while a bonus of €100,000 will be given to Warri Wolves, Mba’s club. Also a partnership deal of 2 years will be agreed between the two clubs (Bastia and Warri Wolves) to organize friendly games and trials at Bastia for the best players of Warri Wolves. This agreement will work at the moment they maintain their place in the league or get promoted and the contract can be renewed every 2 years. The player also cannot be sold for less than €800,000. In the case where he is sold on to another club, Warri Wolves would be given 50 per cent of the fees. In case the player is injured for more than 4 months, Bastia have the right to release him and have to give him back to Warri Wolves without asking for their money back and don't have to pay the rest of the money due. In case CA Bastia get relegated, Sunday Mba will go back to Warri Wolves as being specified in the contract that Mba couldn’t sign. With the failure of Mba to move to Europe this summer, it is yet to be seen how this would affect the career of the player who helped Nigeria to victory at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4078/exclusives/2013/09/03/4235297/revealed-how-sharing-formula-stalled-sunday-mbas-bastia-deal?ICID=OP |
The problems PHCN is causing Nigerians have gotten to an alarming state. If you are a visitor to the country, you would not need to be told that the country is having a serious issue with power supply. While majority are complaining of serious power problems, some are still saying that there is no problem and that power is being dispensed equitably. These are some of the opinions as compiled by SATURDAY VANGUARD. The sector is epileptic — Arthur Oguezeh The inconsistent nature of PHCN service in the country is so bad that some experts have described it to be epileptic in nature. This has been one of the major reasons why most industrialists are afraid to invest in the country and it is making the rate of unemployment to be very high. In my area in Ikotun,Lagos State, though they say that they are sharing the supply, we cannot still differentiate between when it is our turn and when it is not because, it is complete blackout all through. Power supply is not consistent. It is so bad. It’s not that bad here— Ogeri Ndume We don’t really have much problem in the area where I am staying. But other parts of the State are... www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/nigerians-frown-at-the-new-n750-phcn-service-charge/ Express your own feelings here. |

A Moscow court has found late whistle- blowing lawyer Sergei Magnitsky and his former boss guilty of tax evasion. Magnitsky, who worked for the Hermitage Capital investment fund, died in pretrial detention at age 37 after being allegedly beaten and denied medical treatment. It is the first time Russia has put a dead man on trial, deepening concerns over human rights and the rule of law in the country. Magnitsky was accused of tax evasion in 2008 after exposing a $230 million tax scam implicating Russian police and government officials. High-Profile Case Magnitsky's 11-month detention and his death in 2009 sparked an international outcry, with the United States imposing sanctions on Russian officials involved in the case. The court on July 11 also found the head of Hermitage Capital, William Browder, guilty of evading about $17 million in taxes. He was sentenced to nine years in prison. The U.S.-born British investor, who was tried in absentia, has spearheaded an international campaign to expose corruption… www.rferl.mobi/a/25042605.html |

Apparently fed up with all the insinuations about celebrities not showing enough support for OJB, Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim has put in her own two cents on the matter. OJB is currently very ill and his camp has said that the legendary producer needs a $100, 000 fro a kidney transplant. Juliet Ibrahim however, is suggesting that a kidney transplant doesn’t cost more that 50,000 USD, and that there are cheaper alternatives. According to the light skinned actress, she owns a kidney foundation and so knows about these things. She also added that those in charge of the fundraising activities should reach out to the right people and stop harassing celebrities for funds. www.hiphopworldmagazine.com/2013/06/27/stop-harassing-celebrities-for-funds-juliet-ibrahim-tells-ojb/ |
We cant say all the celebrities are not trying to do their part to save OJB as the Okoye brothers, Peter, Paul (P-Square) & Jude have donated N5 million to help save OJB. They personally delivered the check to OJB when they went to visit him at his home in Surulere, Lagos. Joy Tongo, the group’s agent in the US also confirmed the story via her social media page. www.jaguda.com/2013/06/27/the-okoye-brothers-peter-paul-and-jude-donate-n5-million-to-ojb-iyanya-also-gives-n1-million/ |

Abu Mikey: The Old woman might be saying the truth tho!!How? Or is it because she is an old woman? |
dangiwa09: Ignorant Nigerians, no wonder the country is such a sewer. Someone died in a car accident, and another man, who was nowhere near the scene is now blamed for the accident and deaths, all in the name of tales-by-moonlight believe called "rituals". And the media actually reported this, and some people buy it hook line and sinker. At this rate, it will take Nigeria/Nigerians over 100 years to get civilized, big shame!Thank you. And if I be Emeka Morgan, I go sue for defamation, live. |

Maybe it is because he is not Gabriel Agbonlahor playing for Aston Villa and the Three Lions, or Andrew Osagie, UK's reigning 800m champion, or Lawrence Okoye, British Discus Record Holder (68.24m), or Abiodun Oyepitan, British Olympic Silver and Gold Medalist, or Christine Ohuruogu, Beijing Olympic British Gold Medalist, or Eniola Aluko, British Olympic Female Football star, or Temi Fagbenle British Olympic Basketball queen, or several other thousands of British citizens with Nigerian connection who are making the country proud. Nigeria should just be left out of this neo- colonial agenda. Please pass this on. Nigerians are a great people and they are usually positive additions to any culture they join. Proudly Naija. |
British/Nigeria, colonial master/colony. Na we we... A mother who called her child bad authomatically calls herself bad. They definately will address this culprits as 'britain-nigeria', thereby sharring from the bad image this will result to. The culprits where grumed under their government. They are more Britain than Nigerian. Na we we o, but na them get those guys pass. |
Dewze: See how Nigerians think one-sidedly. We just dont want to see the bigger picture. My brother, tell me one person, whos name is in guiness book of records that was sponsored by the govt of his or her country. He is just being funny. |
maryjames9: You get Government? Where dem? Oh,those ones for Rock Aso,abi na Aso Rock? Those old men went to represent their pockets and family, not you. Again, this man deserves attention from his government. He has served the nation well, won titles for his country. Now,he want to cap his career with this "historic fight",except if there's something i'm yet to read,he deserves to be listened to by his president like most normal nation. I guess ours is obviously abnormal. We'l rather pump billions to build a house for First lady, have minister made deal of 56triln than spend millions to hold a fight so desperately important to a common Bash Ali. Do we even "give a damn" about each other b4? FG should listen to him as a citizen as they should to any man out there.. Yes! I agree that he should be listen to, but he shouldn't be given the chance to commit sucide. Who ever should send this man to the ring should be considered a wicked person. |
alpha conde: May be the presidency hates boXing like I doNot really... The president know that Bash Ali stands the chance of meeting any of the Klishkow brothers and he didnt want the man to die in his regime. Obasanjor escaped it, Yar'adua did, Jonathan will follow suit. |
I may not be a boxer, but I will kill this man. He is old for christ sake. Na so them do, Klichtko nearly kill Samuel Peter for us, since then we never hear from am. Hope this story is a joke sha. |
