Who was he referring to, his faithful followers or the crowd? Was he now blaming them for what he himself said it's not necessary? Did he fasted in their presence for them to know how he does so?

All these will help you to grasp that verse 21 was fabricated and not coherent with the rest of that story in any way! John 8:32

I was making a point that God doesn't constantly feeds himself with all the evils and atrocities going on in the world. He only cares for his people and watch over them and uses the power (of knowing everything) whenever it's needed.
