i hope you dont mind telling me what he was doing in the 70's and how much he's worth when Abiola was successful as vice

president of ITT ? undecided

distributing datsun cars to the whole west african region. he was also into estate and properties. he bought abacha his first car when abacha was doing his military service in ibadan in the early 80s.

I think it would be wise to confirm if the house is his own. Does he own it or pay the rents?

If not then he is handicapped

but why would the in laws leave their own house to torment a jobless man? i know he has not covered himself in glory impregnating his wife when he's got financial problems but the in laws went out of order abeg.

Cougar

You are going through the worse by staying with the in-laws, ol boy stoop to conquer o, beggars can not be choosers o, just pray you have a nice wife who understands or else.

how can i even stay with my in-laws? on what grounds? some men don't have dignity. any man staying with his in laws for whatever reasons needs to be castrated.

dayokanu:

It doesnt work that way. When a man is not in financial control a lot of "soap go dey rub am". When your wife is the one paying the rent they would tell you the wife needs to start wearing trouser and you tying wrapper.

how is that possible? is it the same wife i have fed, clothed, housed when i had my job? it's not possible. the man is the head of the house and some few months without a job can never change that. i will set dogs on such in laws.

Atimes finances dey get k-leg  but for me I would stay anywhere but with my inlaws.
Stay with inlaws for inlaw house?  So when you dey hump your wife her family go come knock say "Bros all the energy wey you suppose take find work, na him you wan take injure our daughter"  grin grin grin

i can never stay with any in-law. no matter how nice they seem to appear or not.

@Dayo

Stay with your family? If your wife no gree with your family nko, if it is cat and mouse between them, you will have no choice than to eat humble pie and stay with the inlaws (no coming home late o, remember it is not your house), abi you want to put no work wahala on top of wife and family wahala (one of them will kill you).

if my wife no gree with my family then too bad for her. my decision is final. we signed for better for worse.

How does a jobless man pay rents? Unless he is living in Section 8 house.

Either he lives with the inlaws, The inlaws paid for the house or the inlaws know that their daughter is the one paying for the house.

he used to have a job until he lost it - this means he had a roof over his head till he got sacked. even if the in-laws know their daughter is the one now paying for the house, it still gives them no right to disrespect him. he is the head of that house and he should take charge before things get awry.

dayokanu:

Rather than stay with my inlaws, I would rather stay with my family and friends in "Boys house" style

i will move to my father's house rather than stay with in-laws. there should be some sort of pride and dignity in whatever a man is doing.

Ask the OP who paid for the house or who is paying the rents

it has to be his house. he couldn't have married in the house of his in-laws.

really sad

Their last born even said i was rude for talking to my wife quietly while she was right there.

I begged my wife to tell her mother(my wife doesn't want to tell her for unknown reason and i told her it'll be unfair not to inform her about it) that she was pregnant with our second baby only for her mother to ask her if that is next thing for her to do while i was standing there.i was shocked cos i ve never complained of any financial problem to her before.

Her younger sister gave my wife number to her past toaster or whatever is being called

I don't know what to do,i m really confused about this my in-laws.

I can go on and on

ban all of them from entering your house. you have paid her bride-price. . . .what is their business again in what you do under your roof. it's time to be a man and take some drastic actions. in-laws that don't respect themselves should be locked down.

arisekola made his money in the 70s. he was the sole distributor of datsun cars in the whole of nigeria back then.

then go back to nigeria and feed all those politicians to the dogs or put them against the wall and shoot their foreheads. this is a civilized society and not the jungle you came from.

I am still waiting for someone to list an English speaking movie that has even been nominated for anything outside of Naija, since you know English is so special. Even in your local award shows, no be Jenifa that won? why didnt "Corporate Maid" win. LOL

The funny thing is most of these creatures foaming at the mouth dont even WATCH these movies which is evident in their daft comments, just here to make noise, at least those of us who actually buy and watch these movies can have a genuine discussion on what the problem is.

Its not state money, for u to get tax credit u must have paid into the system, so its the money u worked for, he caused emotional trauma to the victims and their families, its a wicked crime and he deserve the worst punishment, don't tell me that u are not supporting them, u actually do.

it is still public funds. it is hmrc that pay tax credits and this is why the guy's sentence was huge. i don't know if you are just a sensationalist or just a complete simpleton. there's no death sentence in the united kingdom. suicide bombers get life imprisonment. murderers get 25 to life so why should a non-violent crime attract the death sentence? you are just ignorant. the maximum sentence anyone can get in a fraud case is 10 yrs. i mean if a fraudster should steal all the money available in the united kingdom, he cannot get more than 10 yrs.

as for you saying i support this man, it must be state of your depression. go get a shrink to sort your personal problems. i am sure you would blame your eternal woes on this fraudster now. you are probably telling your folks at home you couldn't send the money they requested because olaide taiwo stole your entitlements. what a twunt!
Education / Re: OAU-Ife University Closed Down Indefinitely by Cougar2: 1:39pm On Feb 25, 2011

If you have not been there you would never understand. This is a school which is surrounded by hills, mountains and great bushes, but has never been taken over by cultists, a school where you can walk safely anytime of the day, read anywhere you like and go anywhere you want all this was achieved not by the school authorities but by the vigilant students.

This is a school where you can't just harass any student, in fact in my time which was quite recent if you lay your hands on a Lady, you are liable to ferefe sisi.
This is a school where for just 20,000 naira or so misappropriation of funds the student union president was almost lynched, and several union leaders have been impeached and beaten for embezzlement of paltry funds.

This is a school where basic amenities like light, water is fairly constant because the students would not allow themselves been shortchanged.

This is a school where fro m the day of resumption hundreds of students flock to reading areas when exams is still many months away.
This is a school where the students have been making waves all over the world and in the several fields just like other schools too.

Every school use the term Great, Great UItes, Great Akokites etc but we make the loudest noise and we are very proud to say it, so if some others cant proclaim their greatness as much as we do, we would not apologise for our behavior.

And even in those times past where people claim the glories exist, there was a whole lot of activism, in fact Fela mentioned it in one of his songs ' craze world be dat, where dem kill de students for zaria and ife'.

While all that has been said, just like with evry other movements and protests, the protests are often overdone and the student unions allow selfish and ideological jargons get in the way of reasoning, and they are the ones that go into negotiations with the school.
And OAU students don't shut the school, its the School authority that use it to just punish students and they see it as an easy way out of a crisis situation.

Greeeeeeat Ife

the school is the only good thing left in the whole nigeria.

ife is indeed great! the architectural beauty is peerless. do they still have the spider house behind the conference centre?

We were disapointing yesterday IMO.
We shouldnt have given marsielle that much respect and played a 3-man flat midfield.
Considering the way Utd set out on wednesday, i think i av fears about the remaining part of this season if we keep playing shyte and expecting Giggsy and Scholesy to bail us out always.

disappointing because we drew marseille away from home?  shocked shocked what were you expecting? marseille 0-5 man utd? grin cheesy in my opinion, that was the best away game we have played this season. i cannot fault the performance at all.

Let me also let you know that most families we see as progressives in Yorubaland loves and respect Arisekola to high heavens. The Awolowos and Abiolas were big beneficiaries of his benevolence.

I did my youth service in Monitor Newspapers (now rested) which is owned by Arisekola, I know for a fact that at that time Tribune Newspaper group owned by the Awolowos was broke and going into extinction. It was Arisekola that allowed them to  stay afloat buy letting them print for free and would even give them rims and rims of paper for free without charging a kobo in his Ring Road based outfit, a competitor for that matter! The present crop of business men would be too glad to see their business rival die (eg Dangote & Otedola)

A lot of his businesses stopped being profitable because of negative economic policies that has virtually killed most manufacturing businesses in Nigeria but the man made sure he was paying his staff so they can feed their families, despite the fact that there was no job for them to do

Im not saying the man is a saint but please give him the respect he deserves, or at least shut the eff up on matters you dont have facts on!

well said!

how is it a wicked crime? he stole state funds, he didn't commit a violent crime. he didn't brandish a weapon neither did he get his victims traumatised. he simply stole their ids and took their entitlements which the state would pay back to the victims. i am not in support of this crooked fella but to say he deserves to die based on this crime is a bit exaggerated.

What parameters are we supposed to use in defining crooks?
Like i said, i know dis dude very well and went to school with some of his kids.
I hope you know IB is a very small city in terms of facts

i know the man very well, know his sons and i have paid visits to his mega-mansion in ibadan back in the days. it's just that most people don't like him particularly because of his association with ibb/abacha during the abiola saga. he's a very nice man. . . . .

thameamead:

Him and Rotimi Williams own lot's of properties in Ibadan especially in Bodija, he owns Lister as well, a flour mill in Ilorin and an oil field, he was friends with Abacha before Abacha became President so Abacha must have given him huge contracts, apparently in Abacha days he use to go to Abuja every Friday to pay with Abacha in Aso Rock, he's also generous to his children's friends according to a reliable source.

he bought abacha his first car a peugeot in the 80s when abacha was still in the 2nd mechanised division in ibadan. he practically took care of abacha way back and when abacha came to power, he got loads of contracts in return. does that make the man crooked?

which money are we talking about here? public funds? did he embezzle this money? has he ever held a political post where he diverted entrusted funds into his own personal account? has he ever been arrested for any corruption in nigeria? you have nothing on this guy apart from hear says and myths plucked out of the stratosphere. arisekola is very legit. more legit than mko abiola or mike adenuga.

People tend to talk thrash here simply because its somewhat anonymous.

Im not his fan but if any of these thrash-talkers grew up in Ibada, they would know that Arisekola has been an established billionaire businessman since mid 70s. (thats well over 35 years). His skycraper Lister Building on Ring road was opened in 1970/80, was the biggest Datsun & Nissan dealer in Africa fron 70s all through to early 90s. He has feeds millions of people in his hometown twice a week and sponsors tens of thousands through school both nationally and internationally without loudspeakers like the present crop of politicians

He had been a close friend of Abacha since the mid 70s and their picture as very young men in their 20s together with Late dr Ahmed Kusamotu were published during the height of the anti-Abacha struggle, that proved that they had been friends for decades before Abacha was president. So how may of you guys would have their childhood friends as President of the federal republic and then disown him

No matter how bad a man is, there is no justification for kidnapping his children. That means its okay to castigate MKO Abiola's children because of the evil the man was accussed of doing during the military days, mind you he single-handed sponsored IBB's coup with $10m

I know the guy that was kidnapped and there is no doubt he is a perfect gentleman who dutifully do his job without showing off the family he is from, there are many people that their father do not have up to 1% of Arisekola's wealth but they are all over the place trying to  oppress we common men.

, And mind you, the guy kidnapped is not arisekola's direct son, he is the nephew

you have to understand 90% of the posters here are simpletons. as soon as they hear a nigerian billionaire, then the man must be responsible for their woes and personal issues.
