He escaped? How?

he had a mobile police unit as his security so they took him to safety whilst cultists looted the contents of his bulletproof limousine. after the mayhem, 5 million naira and assault rifles were declared missing.

thameamead:

He is into flour and oil but I respect the man o, he's got lots of kids, half of them went to the private university - Buckingham, he's got lot's of expensive mansions in NW, i attended Queens School Secondary School Apata which some of his daughters attended as well, there were lots of them back then, they had a huge bus that use to bring them to school but i was not in the same league at his kids, they were premier league while i was a divison 3, i remember his huge houses in Bodija back then, his kids were the happening buys and girls throwing parties with the D'Rovans boys here and there in those days,

he shipped 14 of his children(at once) to buckingham university in 96-97 circa.

Arisekola Alao is a crook who made billions from selling out his kinsmen to Sani Abacha. He is the only Ibadan chieftain who has been stoned and arrested by irate  University of Ibadan students.

this is incorrect!

arisekola alao is a businessman. he's never a crook, started as a car dealer in ibadan. then made his billions by supplying foodstuffs to ecomog. he has never held any political post in nigeria so i dunno why people are saying he's a crook!

you were right. our game was disappointing to be honest. i would've loved it if we could steal a win like the last time when we played lille and a draw against lyon.2nd leg would be crazy but we'll pull thru. One United

i don't know what you guys were expecting. there's a reason united set up like that against opponents away from home. united have the best away record in europe and that is because of the way fergie set his team. marseille will be destroyed at old trafford. the performance yesterday was great. chris smalling once again was outstanding. nani murdered heinze but sadly couldn't do anything meaningful with the final ball. i am confident united will go through.

As for Nollywood as we know it, and which is what the industry has become, Living in Bondage pioneered the industry - ushering in relatively 'modern' movie sets, cosmopolitan settings, city-life plots, contemporary costumes, distribution channels, advertising and the works. There really should be no argument about that.

jide kosoko's movie(asiri nla) was the first home video of it's kind in nigeria. several months before living in bondage was released.

Thank God for people like him

especially the scene where the king was asking his chiefs "which of you isn't a naughty person"?? that was class. grin

tunde kelani is talented and these are yoruba actors who have worked with seasoned producers all over the world. tunde kelani was in "tears of the sun" in 2003 and olu jacobs was a security officer in "ashanti" back in the days.

fstranger3:

The thing though is that Yorubas believe more in quality while Ibos believe in quantity.

i don't quite see it that way. the igbos invest more in their movies than the yorubas but their story-lines are crappy most of the time. yoruba movies are often substandard in terms of production and budget but the story-lines make more sense.

The best producers are Yoruba

Ever heard of Tade Ogidan or Tunde Kelani?

you can't go wrong with these two but they are not really commercially oriented. tade releases classical movies like once in 4 years and tunde kelani does his like once a year. not like the zeb/chico ejiros that produce 50 movies per week with substandard quality and mediocre actress. there's no igbo movie in the history of nigeria that will stand next to owoblow or madam dearest.

Before Nollywood came into existence in the 1990's was there anything that preceeded it?

Of course there was. Nigeria is a very rich cultural entity, which has for decades produced very beautiful and even world acclaimed theatre productions, which is where this movie industry takes root.

Herbert Ogunde and Ola Balogun amongst of few others all made movies that were shown in the few theatres that existed during the 1970's and 1980's. These films include "Jaiyesimi", "Aiye" and "Taxi-Driver", these were all done in Yoruba (the language of the South Western States),

the movies done in English prior to Igbo-wood include "Bisi Daughter of The River" and Prof. Wole Soyinka's "Blues For A Prodigal" amongst a few others.

The problem of funding, expensive equipment and piracy amongst others made sure that these early efforts did not take root and develop into the great industry as we see it today.

many yoruba movies and many theatre groups were there then. . . .

Just accept the truth and shame the devil

Once again, Yoruba thumps Igbo

This is not a beef talk, if it was, it would be something market women would be discussing. This is just another attempt by me to set the record straight.

are you ruggedman in disguise?

Most actresses in the Yoruba movie genre are so 'razz', fetish, and classless in real life - even worse than they are in movies. They can't even speak English to save their lives.

Meanwhile this whole argument here about who started or who 'owns' the industry between Igbo and Yoruba is really infantile. Anyone that is old enough, and whose brain is uncorrupted by the virus of ethnic bigotry, knows that contemporary Nollywood as we know it was ushered in by the classic Igbo movie called 'Living in Bondage' in 1992, and the industry has largely remained funded, marketed, distributed and ultimately powered by Igbo elements. What is there to argue about?

you will find out that asiri-nla(great secret) by jide kosoko came out before 'living in bondage'.

If truly nollywood is truly a representative of nigeria movie industry, why this kind of tribalistic comment from peter ?  tongue embarassed

what is bad in that if the movie industry supports it ? are we not all one naija ? why the segregation ?

i think i know where the problem lies.

the majority of these nollywood movies are produced/directed by the igbos. zeb ejiro/chico ejiro/lancelot imasuen and it's only natural for these men to give the roles to igbo youths. nollywood in itself is too igbocentric. that they speak english doesn't really make it a national cake. let us just assume all english speaking nollywood movies are igbo movies.

9ja voice:

he also told me that i hate nigeria movie because am so familiar with it. he even told me that he is inlove for GENEVIVE infact he will like to marry her if she will accept, when he said this i laugh.   pls my dear brother's lets stop tribalism in nigeria because it's of no use.

this is a valid point. the folks in nigeria don't care about these movies like the nigerians in diaspora. the chinese are making loads of money pirating nigerian movies in america.

PS3 custom firmwares are officially out.

I've been running the "kmeaw" CFW since saturday and it works beautifully. I can back-up my game disks to the hard drive, download and play games and even run games off a flash/external hard drive. No dongles, no bricking, no stress.

I've noticed that most PS owners have no idea that this is possible. I only know 1 other person who has done this and he's charging people.

Has anybody else jailbroken their PS3s? Post your experiences in this thread.

why would anyone wanna jailbreak his console? at the expense of going online? what is ps3 without ur ability to play other users online? penny wise, pound foolish. take yourself out of this place before i send sony hacks to your abode. angry

ARSENE WENGER: HOW MARSEILLE CAN BEAT UNITED

The last 16 Champions League tie between Marseille and Manchester United could be compared to our match against Barcelona - they were the favourites, just as United will be for this game.

Nevertheless, Marseille and their wonderful fans can compete with United, and achieve a good result at home.

When you look at the statistics, it is easy to notice that Manchester United have won very few matches away from home.

From 12 away games in the Premier League, they have drawn eight and won only three. But they have a strong defensive base built around Nemanja Vidic and Edwin van der Sar, two fantastic players who guarantee the stability of the team during the game.

Last year, I would have added Rio Ferdinand to that duo, but he seems to be suffering from a lack of consistency this season.

United offer attacking power, too, with highly-skilled players like Nani and Wayne Rooney, who have impressive speed. I cannot forget Dimitar Berbatov either, who is an amazing striker but I'm not sure he will start against Marseille.

If Marseille want to get a result, they have to dictate play in the midfield.

This sector can be considered the 'heart of the game', and United are able to ruin your tactics and annihilate your performance.

Marseille have to ensure that Lucho Gonzalez can express his talent on the field.

When on song, Marseille can put United in jeopardy, but can they raise their game for this match. It is an interesting question and probably the key to the game.

If they cannot play with the required intensity, United will go through to the quarter-finals.

if wenger knows how to beat united? why hasn't he done that in the past 6 games against united?

that is what happens when you play players with no team chemistry and expect them to do a decent job against bottom sides. the bottom sides have formed an understanding cos they play together week in week out. football is a team game. one cannot just lump individuals together and expect them to always do a job. it backfires more often than not.

Its what Im getting at in a roundabout way. Im looking forward to a more consistent team selection although I do understand the need for rotation.

I just dont think the squad depth is good enough considering we're still missing Valencia and Park for another month atleast.

the squad depth is the best in england but fergie's computer analysis loves preserving the senior squad players unnecessarily. did you see city's team today against notts county?dzeko, tevez, silva, etc despite playing europa league on thursday? if fergie was playing the same notts county, you would see fergie resting the entire senior squad and picking players who don't have any iota of team chemistry and he expects them to do a job and it's wrong. we really miss the tactical expertise of carlos queiroz. fergie himself confessed he benefited a lot from the expertise of quieroz. we should get him back at all cost.

He did tell me that, that no woman would have him having no money

exactly my point. the only way to be 100% sure he's not scamming you is to travel down yourself and see where he lives. marry him in a court in nigeria if possible then ship his arse to america with you. that's the only way your fears can be subdued.

It is important to MEET the person BEFORE starting any serious relationship because the person may not be what they are to be.  BUT THEN AGAIN, people do what they want and ONLY THEY WILL suffer the consequence and the kids if they have some.

For 3 years I have been madly in love with a Nigerian man who is 20 years younger than me.  We've never met personally, phone calls, internet and mailings is all we have had. In those years he claims to not have had sex to be waiting to me only.
I do not have big money but can take care as it is only me I have to be concerned with I have no children. I send him 200 USD each month as he says he can't get a job and need to maintain himself. I believe for the last 6 months or so that he is married or has a GF and told him that, he say No it's only me. I have my doubts about that.  Now he is saying that he needs two big amounts of money so that he can come here to the U.S. I love him but I wonder.

What do you think?

pay no attention to the scums discouraging you.

granted, there have been many cases of men using americans as cash machines but this does not suggest your own boy is doing the same. if you love him, make time and visit nigeria to see what he's really up to. it might save you lots of cash you are yet to spend on this boyfriend of yours. who knows - this boy might actually be genuine. go to nigeria and check him out before sending big amounts of money to him.
