JEAN-BEDEL BOKASSA; The Craziest Dictator You've Never Heard of. (African Leaders from the Archives) He was the Central African Republic(CAR) leader who declared himself the 13th apostle of Jesus and ‘frequently met the Pope in secret’ In tyrants Africa has had to endure, none proved more eccentric than Jean-Bédel Bokassa of the Central African Republic (CAR). He is estimated to have fathered 54 children by various lovers, including Romanian, Tunisian, Gabonese, French, Vietnamese, and Belgian ladies. The others were Libyan, Cameroonian, German, Swede, Zairean and Chinese ladies. He is, however, recorded to have had 17 official wives. In a publication by Italian writer Riccardo Orizio, translated from Italian to English by Avril Bardoni, Orizio, who interviewed the troubled ruler a year before his death, sheds light on some of the happenings during the life and times of Bokassa who died from a heart attack on November 3, 1996, aged 75 and buried at Berengo. Jean-Bédel Bokassa via Wikipedia Orizio writes: “In 1965, Jean-Bédel Bokassa led a military coup against David Dacko, the president of the Central African Republic. He seized control of the government; Dacko was thrown into prison. “Having annulled the constitution, Bokassa made himself President, then President for Life in 1972, then Marshal of the Republic in 1974. In 1977 he decided to crown himself Emperor. His coronation was held on December 4, 1977, in the Palais des Sports Jean-Bédel Bokassa, next to Jean-Bédel Bokassa University, on Bokassa Avenue.” Curiously, Idi Amin of Uganda, Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire and Omar Bongo of Gabon, who were supposed friends with the eccentric military man, declined to attend the coronation. Key invited guests turning up or not, Bokassa was set on having a ball and imported 24,000 bottles of Moët & Chandon, 4,000 bottles of Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Lafite Rothschild. Sixty Mercedes cars got shipped from Germany to Cameroon and then flown 740 miles over the forest of Central Africa to Bangui, the capital. Coronation of Emperor Jean-Bedel Bokassa, Bangui, Central African Empire 1977 Bokassa, as a soldier, had once fought for France and done personal favours for French politicians but his rebellious father, a chief, had refused to work with French colonial authorities. He was killed, with Bokassa as a witness when he was just 6. Bokassa’s distraught mother committed suicide a week later, leaving behind 12 children. At age 18, Bokassa joined the French army, participating in the Allied landing in Provence, fighting in Indochina and Algeria, for which he was decorated, commissioned and given French nationality. He often boasted that the CAR did not incur any debt with his coronation as France gave $20 million for the event, stating that it was a little gift for all his services. After the 1979 coup backed by the French leader D’Estaing which ended his reign, Bokassa claimed the French tried to poison him on several occasions, making his body weak. He, however, attributes surviving to a silver cross Pope Paul VI gave him when the Pope secretly nominated him as the thirteenth apostle of the Holy Mother Church. According to Orizio, Bokassa informed him that the Pope, during his visit to the Vatican on July 30, 1970, gave him the cross. “Shortly beforehand, he baptized me with a special ceremony in his private chapel. He asked if I was prepared to receive a great honour. I said I was and he celebrated the rite. My role in the Catholic Church has been a special, secret one ever since. When I was in power I acted as a mediator for the Vatican in various conflicts, such as that between Libya and Egypt,” Bokassa recounted. Bokassa continued: “The Pope himself gave me this crucifix. Together with my thirteen Bibles, it is the only thing I have left. Everything else—land, decorations, power, women— belongs to the past. This house, Villa Nasser, I have given to my ex-wife, Madame Catherine, even though she doesn’t deserve it after her adultery with Valéry Giscard d’Estaing. The man stole my diamonds and my wife. A pirate. He treated me like that because I am an African. But no matter. Today, thanks to divine intervention, I am a man of peace and faith. Inside, I am still His Majesty Bokassa the First, Apostle of Peace and Servant of Jesus Christ, Emperor and Marshal of Central Africa.” But it wasn’t only a crucifix Jean Bédel-Bokassa received from the Pope on the day. He also noted: “I was baptized in 1950 at Fréjus, where my old French regiment was based. I received my baptism as thirteenth apostle on July 30, 1970, from Pope Paul VI. I was president from 1966 to 1976.” Jean-Bedel Bokassa via Hollis Wagstaff Whiles on a trip to Libya, a bloodless coup d’état – ‘Operation Barracuda’ – was staged on September 20, 1979. On November 20, 1980, he was condemned to death in absentia. In the same year, he was extradited to a prison in the Ivory Coast, and then extradited to France, where he remained under supervision for two years before being finally repatriated to Central Africa on November 23, 1986, to stand trial for treason and murder. Bokassa’s trial lasted from November 23, 1986, until June 2, 1987, when he was again sentenced to death. The sentence was subsequently commuted, first to life imprisonment and twenty years’ forced labour, then to ten years’ forced labour. He gained his freedom on September 1, 1993. In 1970, he solemnly announced to the nation that he had awarded himself the title of ‘Grand Master of the International Brotherhood of Knights Collectors of Postage Stamps’. Other titles he went by include President for Life, Minister of Defence, Minister of Justice, Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Health and Minister of Aviation. Charges levelled against him included cannibalism, misappropriation of public funds and concealment of children’s bodies. But Bokossa refuted the cannibalism charge: “The story about cannibalism was invented in order to destroy me. It’s a lie. Do you really believe that a much-decorated French officer could be a cannibal? It’s a lie,” he said. Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has described the creation of additional zonal commands of the Nigeria Police, including Zone 17 comprising Ondo and Ekiti States, as a strategic move that would strengthen community policing in the country. Fayemi disclosed this on Tuesday when he received the pioneer AIG of the newly created Zone 17, Assistant Inspector General, David Folawiyo in his office in Ado- Ekiti. The governor who commended the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu for the creation of new zonal commands also lauded the new AIG’s vast professional experience in community policing, investigation as well as in the Interpol. He noted that AIG Folawiyo’s extensive knowledge, experience and exposure would be of huge benefit to the states under the new zone. The Governor expressed optimism that the new AIG would contribute to the development agenda of the zone because the two states are inexplicably inter-twined culturally and security wise. He said: “We are delighted that this has finally happened. For us, it is a bold step in bringing the police closer to the community. Before now, we used to be part of Zone 8 which has its base in Lokoja, which is frankly not a demonstration of proximal policing in any sense. Lokoja is very far from us and we have been agitating and glad that the current Inspector General of Police harkened to our voice and Mr. President approved the devolution of policing to the local level. “People commit crime in Ekiti state and they can walk and come out of Ondo state via our bushes. You will not even know how they got there. Being in charge definitely speaks to our own commitment to community policing and we hope to benefit from your extensive knowledge and experience.” The Governor promised to assist and collaborate with the zonal command to overcome its initial challenges. Earlier, the new AIG, Folawiyo, had said that the zone would be at the forefront of combating crime at the level of community policing and other important aspects of general security. The AIG assured the governments of the two states that the activities of the command would be participatory through mentoring and ensuring training of all principal actors and stakeholders. He promised to collaborate with government in his drive to achieve success during his tenure in the zone. According to the AIG, “Our focus is going to be community policing, partnership and transformation; we have new plans and strategies to make governance better from the angle of security. We would be frontliners in general security and community policing in zone17,” he added. https://thenationonlineng.net/fayemi-restates-commitment-to-community-policing/?fbclid=IwAR079V3PyR1p7BnBFFkc0swyUijXIRPPgLqb5MMCziDU07xVkHGU9xxeggM . . |

In a series of Twitter posts, Chidera who lives in Ireland with his mother, said: "my family is dead to me’, concluding that he wants to move on with his life without his family in the picture or in his family affairs. He claimed his mother has abused him physically and emotionally and he was venting out after many years of suffering in silence. He said he had received death threats and insults from social media users who did not hear his sid of the story. “Firstly I would like to begin by saying thank you for everyone who has shown love to me. I was very shocked to find out that my personal business was so publicly displayed and that the narrative was twisted and changed to portray me as a bad guy.” “My actions as seen in this video wasn’t isn’t because of “disagreement” or a “passport” issue as my mum describes in the video. My mum is a very abusive, aggressive and violent person… and she has been all my life.” “When I say aggressive and violent, I am not exaggerating… I have endured plates/knives thrown at me. I even have to remove my mattress and put it up to the door when I sleep for fear she will do something to me in my sleep as she frequently threatens to.” “I have kept all of this very private… not even my friends and good friends knew. So I was in shock to find this video circulating the internet. I have tried talking to her about it but she is to deep in her “Nigerian culture” to ever listen and ends up having aggressive fits” “She then left me no other choice when she kicked me out of the house about over a month ago to report myself in. This how social workers and Gardaí were brought in. I was moved to numerous places over the duration of this month and feared going back to her abuse.” “But after a conversation from the man and the woman seen in this video, I decided to go back home and make it work with my mum (with my social worker present of course). Unfortunately, as you all can see this “peace” didn’t last long.” “The day of this altercation, I had indeed asked for my passport to fill out college applications. But my mum wasn’t at all cooperative… in fact at this point … she had been ignoring me in the house and refusing to feed me I was cycling to my friends house daily to eat.” “So to avoid one of her violent outbreaks I went and looked for it myself without her knowledge. When I couldn’t find it I did go back to her to ask her for it again… where she then began to be aggressive and violent trying to physically lift me -!: remove me from the room.” “She was groping slapping and punching me… and obviously I will not fight my own mother back so I told her to stop or I would begin to break things At this moment that was the only way I saw, for me to get her to stop without being violent back to her .. however she continued,” “So I broke a few things like hairdryers ( we were still upstairs at this point) and my little brother called the guards. The guards arrived and seeing as how they could resolve the issue they warned both me and my mother to stay away from each other till Tusla were notified(again),” “The guards so made their way downstairs and I accompanied them because I wanted to make myself food… ( my mum was still present through all of this and didn’t voice her disagreement to me making food). The guards told me to make my food and go straight to my room.” “So the guards left and I was downstairs making food… when my mum came rushing downstairs hysterical… telling me I had no right to touch her food, fair But I asked her why she didn’t say this when I told the guards I was going to make food,” “She got angry and turned off the burner and trying to manoeuvre my way out of another altercation I went to the fridge to eat a cold leftover … she slapped it out of my hand. What she did next was what provoked the actions you see in this video,” “She took powdered pepper and threw it in my face… and while I was still disoriented she grabbed a moping stick and repeatedly beat me with it … she then grabbed me and bit me I still didn’t retaliate or fight back,” “After this vicious attack she then proceeded to call the three adults featured in this video, her exact words were “You better get here before I kill Chidera” They were there in the next 5 minutes. I had to take off my t shirt and soak it and put it on my face to cool the pepper.” “At the moment I just felt sheer rage and instead of getting physical or aggressive with my mum … I decided to trash the kitchen as u see in this video. Looking back at it… it might not have been the best solution but I didn’t know what else to do.” “The guards were called again and they returned just 30 minutes after they had left and detained me. I was put into emergency care. And I have been in foster since that day last week.” “I feel nothing towards this family other than pure disgust and hatred for the way they all treated me ( my brothers and fathers included) And I don’t think I can ever bring myself to ever reconcile with them ..I have changed my number and deleted all contact with them.” “I have kept all this private to protect all of us as we can all be negatively be impacted by this. But for me to come on social media and receive nasty death threats and messages and finding out they posted this video and painted the narrative completely differently,” “You might all ask me why I didn’t correct my mother’s grossly false version of the events while I was smashing things. The answer is I was so consumed by rage and anger after what had just happened to me. And as u can see in the video I didn’t care about anyone.” “Everyone is entitled to their opinion and that is fine. The Police have arrested a-44-year old pastor of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Ogo Oluwa parish, Oluwafemi Oyebola, for allegedly raping his biological daughter. Pastor Oyebola was arrested following a complaint by his 24-year-old daughter, who asked to remain anonymous. The girl reported at the Owode-Egbado divisional headquarters that her father had been forcefully having carnal knowledge of her since 2015 when she was 19 years old, shortly after the demise of her mother. She told police that she got pregnant for her father three times, but he took her to a nurse where those pregnancies were terminated. The distraught lady also told police that after the third pregnancy and its termination, her father got her to undergo a family planning procedure to stop further pregnancies. She said it was at this point that it dawned on her that her father was out to ruin her life, so she ran away from home and reported her ordeal to a non-governmental organisation, Advocacy For Children And Vulnerable Persons Network. The NGO led her to the Owode-Egbado police station to report the alleged incestuous father. Police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this in a release on Tuesday, said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Owode-Egbado division, Olabisi Elebute, led detectives to the Pastor’s house and arrested him. Abimbola, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said that upon interrogation the pastor made confessional statements, admitting that all his daughter complained about was the whole truth. The pastor has been handed over the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Oyeyemi said. https://thenationonlineng.net/pastor-impregnates-daughter-three-times/?fbclid=IwAR1j2PwxN6bYw2Fq_W-TaLPX6casVfreAiBn8-eZmJ30e8afYanVd6L4i4o |

Egypt is the most powerful country in Africa according to the 2020 Best Countries Rankings - South Africa, Kenya, and Ghana are in the second, third and fourth positions - While Nigeria did not make the list, Morroco took the fifth position on the ranking The 2020 Best Countries Rankings rated five African nations as the continent’s most powerful countries. It should be noted that the countries are chosen based on factors that cover their respect for human rights, their GDPs, ease of doing business, among other attributes. On the list, Egypt ranked first in the African category but is number 36 on the world category. South Africa comes second and rated 39th among world countries. Below is, therefore, a list of the top 5 African countries: 1. Egypt 2. South Africa 3. Kenya 4. Ghana 5. Morocco Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Mauritius and Tunisia ranked first and second with a 100% electricity supply. Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, and Seychelles ranked 99.8%, 99.1%, and 99% respectively. No country on the list has below 80% electricity access as South Africa and Ghana, nations on ninth and 10th positions, have 84.3% and 84.2% power access rates. Recall that the Moroccan government went ahead to use green technology to proffer a solution to one of its citizens' challenges. The government built a solar panel tree in Marrakesh so that people can easily charge their phones without having to worry about electricity. Imagine a place where you can plug in your device away from home, without the fear of running out of power. This is really inventive. https://www.legit.ng/1345451-egypt-leads-top-5-powerful-countries-africa.html?fbclid=IwAR0_XkoJqpLoVfnho858znddA6yFbBPwTUVK8VQbF4lHMzYVMpcGuWgKTH0 |

Two persons have been killed and five others abducted in Ekoli Edda in Afikpo South local government area of Ebonyi State The police said the victims were attacked by gunmen from the neighbouring Biase local government area of Cross River State. The two communities have a dispute over a palm plantation on their boundary. Police spokesperson in Ebonyi State, Loveth Odah, in a statement said the two dead victims were a couple. She gave their names as Ndukwe Okoroafor, aged 55, and his wife, Paulina Ndukwe, 49. “On June 30 at about 4 p.m, the DPO Afikpo South received a distress call that gunmen from Biase LGA of Cross River State attacked some persons at Erei Palm Plantation located at the boundary between Ekoli Edda in Afikpo South L.G.A of Ebonyi State and Biase LGA of Cross River State. “Following the report, the DPO quickly contacted the youth leader of Ekoli Edda who also informed him that an eyewitness to the alleged attack, one Kalu Ndukwe, narrowly escaped with bullet wounds but saw his father, one Ndukwe Okoroafor ‘m’ aged about 55yrs, and his mother, one Paulina Ndukwe ‘f’ aged about 49yrs, being slaughtered by the attackers.” The police spokesperson said the gunmen also abducted five others, namely Esther Ikwo, Elizabeth Ikwo, Chinechere Nnachi, Ogbonna Aku and Sunday Ogbuu Ama. The victims, according to Mrs Odah, were taken to an unknown destination together with the corpse of the Ndukwe couple. Mrs Odah said the commissioner of Police, Philip Maku, condemned the attack as hideous and barbaric. She said the commissioner dispatched a team of police officers and soldiers to the area with a view to rescuing the abducted persons and arresting the assailants. “Furthermore, the CP has enjoined residents of the area, especially the youths, to maintain peace, avoid taking law into their hands or acting in ways that could jeopardize investigation into the matter. “Meanwhile, preliminary investigation revealed that the attack is as result of resurgence of the longstanding communal feud between the people of Ekoli Edda in Afikpo South L.G.A of Ebonyi State and Biase L.G.A of Cross River State over the Palm Plantation. “To this end, the good people of Ebonyi State have been enjoined to remain law abiding and assist the Police with credible information that will lead to the arrest of the culprits”, she added https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-east/400702-two-killed-five-abducted-in-ebonyi-cross-river-boundary-dispute.html?fbclid=IwAR1a0adEDvirk3XRnVqVGWDnWu-rf2juJr-SPwxdW4wGR7Zsz-v1nHvV7d8 Lalasticlala |
The President, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has named an indigene of Abonnema local government area of Rivers State, Mrs. Opunimi Akinkugbe, as an ambassadorial nominee for Ondo State. Mrs. Nimi Akinkugbe’s name was listed under Ondo State on the list announced by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on Wednesday. The nominee is the daughter of the late F.I Ajumogobia, a former Chief of Mission at UNESCO who died in the ADC flight 086 crash en route Lagos from Port Harcourt on November 7, 1996. She is married to Yinka Akinkugbe from Ondo State and they are blessed with three children. The nominee, who is a renowned columnist, has over 23 years of experience in the banking sector having worked at Stanbic IBTC, Barclays Bank and Standard Chartered Bank where she is currently a non-executive director. She attended the London School of Economics and Political Science and IESE Business School where she bagged an MBA. Speaking with The PUNCH on Wednesday, the state Chairman, Ondo Youth Coalition, Ademario Emmanuel, said Ondo had prominent sons and daughters that could take up the appointment. Emmanuel, who is also the National President, Youth Advancement Initiative, said the appointment would not stand. He said, “The person that was nominated is not from Ondo State. We are doing more research to know those behind the recommendation of that appointment and we will send a letter to the Presidency and the governor. Ondo State cannot be short-changed and manipulated by some greedy set of persons because of power. It is insulting that we have people that can represent this state well in national affairs. Why are they not being given appointment? Ondo State has prominent sons and daughters who are well to do and can represent Nigeria and the state anywhere in the world. This appointment will not stand. When we have made up our mind, we will take the next step.” Also speaking, the President, Yoruba Afenifere Youth Organisation of Nigeria, Eric Oluwole, called on Buhari to reverse the appointment within 48 hours. Oluwole said an indigene of Rivers State cannot represent the people of Ondo State. He added, “We call for the cancellation of Ondo state ambassadorial nominee within 48 hours. Someone cannot be nominated from Rivers State to represent us in Ondo state as an ambassador, when there are many qualified indigenes. “I urge Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state as a lovely person to play neutral selection on this, I want to believe the nomination was a mistake.” However, the lawmaker representing Ondo-Central senatorial district, Senator Patrick Akinyelure, said there was nothing wrong with the appointment of Mrs. Akinkugbe as long as the governor supports her. Akinyelure told The PUNCH that since the nominee was legally married to an indigene of Ondo State and had given birth to “Ondo children” she was qualified to represent the state. The senator said, “You can claim your husband’s state. As long as she has married our people, we accept her. However, if the people of Ondo State kick against it, we will reconsider. She is the mother of Ondo children regardless of where she is from. “I don’t believe in standing in the way of someone’s success. If the governor approves of her appointment, then there is no problem.” https://punchng.com/controversy-as-buhari-gives-ondo-ambassador-slot-to-rivers-indigene/?fbclid=IwAR1hkH8rB1YEeGOM9je0hkY8uM_hRhtAXKbDKAK4UzC__cj44CnU7md3IIQ |

The National Assembly says it is concerned about the proper and effective implementation of the engagement of 774,000 Public Works Workers and wishes to restate its commitment to its success. In line with its constitutional oversight function, the National Assembly says it has mandated its Committees on Labour and Productivity to immediately invite the Hon. Minister for Labour and Productivity and any other relevant officials of the Ministry to appear before the joint committee to brief it on the modality for the implementation of the engagement of 774,000 persons for public works. According to a statement signed by spokesmen of the Senate and House of Reps, Senator (Dr.) Ajibola Basiru and Hon. Benjamin O. Kalu; NASS noted that the Legislature being important stakeholders in the democratic process, and elected representatives of the people, needed to be appraised of modalities for implementation for effective feedback to the constituents and in ensuring that the constituents optimally participate in and benefit from the process. The National Assembly further noted that in view of the foregoing, the implementation of the programme shall be on hold pending proper briefing of the NASS by the Minister of Labour and Productivity. “The National Assembly will ensure transparency of the process just as done with the National Social Register by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. The Federal Government has approved what it called “safe reopening” of schools nationwide in the next phase of the gradual easing of lockdown ordered to curtail further spread of COVID-19. However, only graduating students will resume. The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this at the ongoing daily briefing of the task force in Abuja on Monday. He said the reopening of schools was meant to allow students in graduating classes resume preparation for examinations. He disclosed that the latest developments were contained in the task force’s fifth interim report which was submitted to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), earlier in the day. Mustapha said, “I am pleased to inform you that Mr President has carefully considered the 5th Interim Report of the PTF and has accordingly approved that, with the exception of some modifications to be expatiated upon later, the Phase II of the eased lockdown be extended by another four weeks with effect from Tuesday, June 30, 2020 through Midnight of Monday, 27 July, 2020. “Specifically, however, the following measures shall either remain in place or come into effect: Maintaining the current phase of the national response, for another four weeks in line with modifications to be expatiated by the National Coordinator; “Permission of movement across state borders only outside curfew hours with effect from 1st July, 2020; “Enforcement of laws around non-pharmaceutical interventions by States, in particular, the use of face masks in public places; Safe re-opening of schools to allow students in graduating classes resume in-person in preparation for examinations; Safe reopening of domestic aviation services as soon as practicable; “Publication of revised guidelines around the three thematic areas of general movement, industry and labour; and community activities; “Provision of technical support for states to mobilise additional resources for the response.” https://punchng.com/breaking-fg-okays-reopening-of-schools/?fbclid=IwAR0-RMdxUN2x2xG70zAzXFQFUB7HktaOXlBhZYXK4AZ-sNqIbI8Q6tqX4dk |
Kwara has been part of North since Alimi conquered it during Jihad – Magaji Nda of Ilorin Magaji Nda of Ilorin, Alhaji Salihu Mohammed, speaks with TUNDE OYEKOLA on some allegations made by Moro Concerned Elders Movement that the Ilorin Emirate had been oppressing their people and preventing the proper grading of other traditional rulers in the Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State People of Moro Local Government Area have been agitating for their exit from Ilorin Emirate over allegations of victimisation and oppression by the emirate, what do you think about it? I’m speaking to you as Salihu Woru Mohammed and not on behalf of the Emir of Ilorin or the Ilorin Emirate. The truth is that no Moro person is agitating for their exit from Ilorin Emirate. Those making noises are not indigenes of the area. Go and find out; they are strangers in that place. They are people whose fathers came to Moro, either to farm or do some other work there. Moro and Ilorin are the same because most Moro people have houses in Ilorin. All of us are interwoven. My family is in Ogbondoroko in Asa Local Government Area and others have their families in all the local government areas making up the emirate; that is, Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, Asa and Moro local government areas, and we are all under the Emir of Ilorin. Ilorin Emirate started many decades ago. If you can remember, Alfa Alimi started his Jihad which he brought to this place. He united the people and we have been living together peacefully. Those agitating that they want to move out are strangers; some are railway staff members who settled to live with us after their retirement. They only want to disrupt the good work and peaceful co-existence which Alimi achieved many years ago. How would you respond to allegations that Ilorin Emirate appoints and imposes district heads and Alangua on the people, how can you defend that? I want to tell you that those making the allegations are not saying the truth. Nobody is oppressing anyone. Those appointed as district heads and Alangua are indigenes of the various communities in Moro. For example, the district head of Malete was born there and his father’s house and burial ground are there. Also, the district head of Ejidongari has his grandfather’s burial site there. All the Alanguas are nominees of the people before the emir endorsed them for appointment. Also, all the sons and daughters of the local government areas in the emirate enjoy benefits, including scholarships. So, I don’t know the type of oppression that they are talking about. Those people making the allegations want to cause division among us. I have advised them that if they want a separate local government, they should follow the Constitution by telling the state House of Assembly to work towards creating a new local government for them. It was alleged that the Emir of Ilorin warned the state governor not to grade the Ohoro of Shao and Oba of Jebba, both in Moro Local Government Area, is this true? I want to tell you that there was no time that the emir went to the governor to give such a warning. Those people are trying to cause trouble and make people disenchanted (with the system) by not saying the truth. I want to tell you that they’re not indigenes of Moro. The people of Moro have told us that they are not their sons; they are strangers. When Moro Students’ Union members paid me a courtesy visit, I advised them that as young persons, they should not allow themselves to be used for dirty jobs by politicians. And I advised that the governor should not grade traditional rulers under Ilorin Emirate. We have a way of doing things in the emirate; we don’t want division among our people. It is not a warning, it is an advice. You have alleged that some people are trying to cause problems in the emirate, what kind of crisis? They have been involved in doing illegal things; there was a time that they put up a signpost in Shao to say it is the land of Oduduwa. Is Shao part of the land of Oduduwa? Did Oduduwa have any land here? Kwara has been part of the North from time immemorial. Alfa Alimi had settled that during his Jihad; it is part of the land conquered when he was propagating Islam. Ilorin Emirate is part of the place he acquired and it is not part of the South-West. They are saying that there is no development; those making the allegations are politicians and have been in politics for a long time. Let them tell you the development that they have brought to Shao and its environs. Kwara State University, Malete was sited there because of the Ilorin Emirate; let them tell you the development they have brought to Moro. It was alleged that the emir blocked the grading of traditional rulers in Moro Local Government Area while those graded in the past such as Ohoro of Shao and Oba of Jebba had theirs reversed. Why? As far as I’m concerned, nobody has been graded in the five local government areas that constitute Ilorin Emirate. The Emir of Ilorin is the head and people are satisfied with him. He is the head and people live peacefully. There is peace in the emirate and the state. No traditional ruler apart from the emir is recognised. The Ohoro of Shao and Oba of Jebba are rulers of their respective communities and they have a cordial relationship with the emir. Ohoro of Shao was a seasoned civil servant and he retired as a permanent secretary in the state civil service before he got to the throne. There is no function taking place in the palace that he does not attend. Even when I have something to do here, he comes and when he cannot come personally, he sends his wife, so there is a cordial relationship between them and the emir. Those people are not saying the truth about the emir; he is not the government that will grade them. How can he then reverse it? How will you describe the relationship between Yoruba people and Fulani people in Ilorin? The people of the emirate, whether Yoruba, Fulani, Baruba, Nupe, or Hausa have been living peacefully, so there is no problem. It is you people that want to cause problems among them. Look at places like Kano, Maiduguri, Ogbomoso and others, there are many tribes living there and there is unity. Nobody is worried about those leading them. The unity of this country is settled. It has been settled for long and nobody can divide us. There are allegations that the Emir of Ilorin has not been sharing the funds from the local government area with other traditional rulers in the council, how would you respond to that? The funds for the traditional rulers are being given to them. In Moro, we have many district heads and over 70 Alanguas. It is from the funds that they are paid and maintained. We also have Alanguas in Asa, Ilorin West, Ilorin East and Ilorin South local government areas and all of them are paid from the funds. Has anyone of them complained? So, those people are making unfounded allegations and not telling the truth. What concerns me now is how to make the government succeed and I want to congratulate the governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, on his first anniversary in office. He has been trying to make life easy for the people. He has renovated roads and provided us with good drinking water. He is paying salaries of workers as and when due. We have to support him so that he can do more for the people. I also want to commend him for the way he has handled and curtailed the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state. We will continue to support him. What advice do you have for the government? First, I want to thank President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing our son, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, as his Chief of Staff. We believe he will use his experience to improve the government. The Emir of Ilorin appreciates the President. I also congratulate the President on his first anniversary in office for his second term. I want to advise our governor to focus on governance by providing more of dividends of democracy. He should build more roads, and provide water, electricity and other things that would make life better for the people. He should not allow political jobbers to divert his attention. https://punchng.com/kwara-has-been-part-of-north-since-alimi-conquered-it-during-jihad-magaji-nda-of-ilorin/?fbclid=IwAR03kbaOWUB27AAq2obK_tVRJ91e2dYEWORnAURfkOoFG66h8iwPilbeTZI Lalasticlala |

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has warned sex workers and operators of nightclubs and bars across the city not to operate until the COVID-19 restriction is lifted. Chairman, FCT Task Team on COVID-19, Ikharo Attah, handed down the warning on Saturday while monitoring compliance with the regulations at Kubwa, Gwarimpa and Wuse areas of the nation’s capital. Speaking to journalists after the operation, Attah said, “The ban on nightclubs, parks and bars is yet to be lifted, hence the need for us to sustain routine inspection and ensure compliance. We believe that if we relax our vigilance, with the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, it would not be good for the city.” READ ALSO: We’ll punish those who demolished Nigerian High Commission – Ghana While expressing satisfaction with the compliance level by the nightclub operators, Attah complained about the high number of suspected sex workers around buildings housing the nightclubs in Kubwa. He noted, “The presence of the ‘ladies of the night’ is a violation of the curfew because they are not on the exemption list of essential workers. Their presence made us carry out full checks on some nightclubs which were truly closed. “At moments like these, we expect them to stop the unholy trade in their own interest because the men who may patronise them may be COVID-19 positive.” https://punchng.com/sex-workers-not-essential-service-providers-fct-warns/?fbclid=IwAR2YLNS2Pxqp6MJFvj7xitcbEcvZj6A-eNJx60XuEyZkKgL84KlJyr2JbZo Lalasticlala |
A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George, and two other members of the Omo Eko Pataki Forum, has alleged that the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu; his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and many top political office holders in the state are not natives of Lagos State. The members of the forum claimed that the senators representing the state at the National Assembly – Oluremi Tinubu and Solomon Adeola; Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folasade Jaji; and the Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, are also not from the state. The forum said these in an advertorial, titled, ‘Lagos: The imperatives of cultural renaissance’, signed by Chief Bode George as the leader of the forum; Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju (retd.), a former GOC 3rd Armoured Division, Jos as a trustee of the forum and Mr Gbadebo Dallass, a former managing director of the National Economic Reconstruction Fund, as another trustee. In the advertorial published in Sunday PUNCH of June 14, 2020, the members of the forum lamented that the “legendary accommodating openness” that Lagos State is known for was becoming a curse, noting however that they would no longer watch the state become a no-man’s-land where anything goes. The advertorial reads, “From the years of Brigadier Johnson to that of Brigadier Marwa, all those who governed Lagos State gave the natives their natural pride of place and presence in the governance of their soil. “The representation in power equation was equitably distributed along the traditional lines of IBILE. It was genuinely inclusive of all shades and colours of our multi-rainbow society. The major divisions as represented in the acronym called IBILE were all given equal and adequate representation in the governance of their state. “Not anymore! The 1999 aberration which witnessed the emergence of Mr Bola Tinubu changed the old order. Lagosians are now reduced to almost second-class citizens on their native soil. Their inalienable right of self-determination, which is guaranteed by our constitution, has been largely voided, dismantled by a solitary usurper.” The group said its position was void of prejudice but that it couldn’t ignore what it called the truth and scary realities, noting that the present political and administrative structures in the state were hardly representative of the will, purpose and summative identity of the people. They added, “From the acme of governorship power in the Round House in Alausa to the seat of the Deputy Governor, from the three senatorial incumbents (Bayo Osinowo who represented Lagos East is now deceased) to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, the SSG, the HoS – none of the occupiers of these crucial positions is a native of Lagos State. “Where else in this country can this kind of odious and sickening anomaly happen without an uprising? This flies in the face of equity and fairness. This is not right. This is not just.” They added, “Like George Floyd, they are kneeling on our necks. And we cannot breathe! From politics to administration and now our culture, they are mangling our indigenous identity. This evil has gone full circle. “The glaring interference in the Oniru stool has added a new dimension to the deliberate erosion of our cultural identity. One brazen Supremo now decides who becomes a governor and who occupies a royal seat. “We as indigenous natives of Lagos State feel endangered. Surely, we can’t continue like this. The tradition of complicity and silence is over. Let us all rise to defend what is ours by birth, by ancestry and tradition. “Enough is enough. We find it repugnant and absolutely unacceptable the reduction of Lagos State to a no-man’s-land where anything goes. O to ge!” In his response, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Gboyega Akosile, faulted the claims, noting that Sanwo-Olu’s parental home on the Lagos Island was well known to people. He added, “Clearly, the governor and these people they mentioned are Lagosians of first order. Everyone knows the governor’s parental home on Lagos Island. However, this is not the time for us to talk about who is a Lagosian or who is not. “Whoever is behind such is looking for social and political relevance. They should rather join hands with the governor to move the state forward instead of debating about who is from Lagos or not.” https://punchng.com/from-sanwo-olu-to-hos-none-is-a-lagosian-bode-george-others-allege/?fbclid=IwAR1rGbl13NwX8Q8CcqpHqu0eTm1rwXSd50vLgLDU3W00b6pHnESgHgAVXss |

Etche people migrated from Benin. THE BENIN ORIGIN: In a very ambitious attempt to construct the historical past of Etche, Achonwa (1980) traced the migration of the people from a particular place and point in time. According to him: The Etche people left the Benin Kingdom about 7th century. They moved up to Agbor, and entered the Orashi River through Ndoni. Creek-settling for brief while at the present-day Omoku … they moved eastwards up to Abua. They crossed Abua to Ndele on land; stopping finally at Igbo, the first Etche settlement. There is the speculation that “this horde” was an amalgam of many other tribes, which according to Achonwa included the Ikwerres, Abuans, Ekpeyes, etc. He submits that this was responsible for the settlement known as Ikwerre-Ngwo – a conglomerate of peoples. According to Onyema (2000), Etche is part of the Benin in Diaspora of the fourteenth century. He moved along with the Ogbas, Ekpeyes and Ikwerres. They crossed the River Niger from one spot and spread themselves southwesterly and southeasterly from the spot they crossed the River Niger. This myth has some credence. There is similarity of language among the Ogbas, the Ikwerres and the Etches. There is also similarity of language between the “Etches” and Igbodos” of Delta State. “Igbodo” is a town between Asaba and Agbor in Delta State. There is a town called Obite in Ogba land and Obite town in Etche. Also, an address sent to the Ekpeye people in their annual “OGWU EKPEYE” cultural festival by the Oba of Benin confirmed this aspect of the history. The present Oba of Benin was one time Divisional Officer in the then Ahoada Division, which comprised Etche, Ikwerre, Ekpeye, Ogba and Abua. They were then known as clans. |

RE: Anambra Fathers Raped their Daughters more during Lockdown" (STATING THE FACTS) Our attention was drawn to media reports featured by certain media outlets between 8th to 10th of May with the headline "Anambra Fathers raped their daughters more during Lockdown" According to the report(s), it was allegedly claimed that the Director of Child Welfare Services in Anambra State's Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Children and Social Welfare, Mrs. Nkechi Anazodo made the outrageous statements during the United Nations Children’s Fund supported launch of integrated child protection community sensitization campaign held in Awka North Local Government Area. We decided to swing into action by contacting Mrs. Anazodo and we got her to verify the veracity of the report. In a phone call made by members of the Anambra State Online Media, she denied making such comments. "I never said that Anambra Fathers raped their daughters during the lockdown. I simply stated that it was a nationwide occurrence and i was only going to participate on a 10 day sensitization programme to guard against such occurrences happening in our state in case such a scenario is going to take place." she said. Mrs Anazado implied that in her years as Director of Child Welfare Services, there had been 32 cases of rape before the lockdown came into play but the rape incidences though they were in the state had nothing to do with fathers raping their daughters in Anambra. She further stated that most of those rape incidences were perpetrated by "aliens" from other parts of the country. "Anyone telling you i said that Anambra fathers raped their daughters during the lockdown is a blatant liar. You know you journalists can concoct stories sometimes", she retorted. It should be recalled that during the lockdown which affected some selected states in the country, Anambra State had some level of free movement and business activities was never hindered rather slowed down. Anambra State which is mainly known as a major commercial nerve in the country made up of indigenes who are mainly business oriented and agrarians still kept themselves engaged in one form of business activity or the other. Secondly, the whole of Igboland in general and Anambra in particular have very stringent cultural ethics and norms in which some certain actions are seen as a taboo and abomination of which incest is totally frowned at. With the current trend of rape which is being reported all over the media which seems to come in the heels of the Uwaila Omozuwa rape incident, we feel that this fake and calamitous report was cooked up by troublemakers who lack the ethics of proper and investigative journalism just to raise unnecessary dust, trend, seek for attention and tarnish the good name of our dear state. So many rape reports where physical arrests have been made and documented was reported in "some certain parts" of the country where incestuous rape, child rape and even animal rape (bestiality) is said to be endemic with solid proof of the arrest of the perpetrators and even imprisonment of one of them who was given a 2 year sentence that sparked an outcry among Nigerians with the argument that 2 years was too lenient for such a crime. In this vein, we seek to ask the bearers of this fake report to bring to our notice how many of "these fathers" in Anambra were apprehended, arrested, paraded in front of journalists and appeared in court as it was obtained in the previous rape cases reported and "under-reported" in some other parts of the country? We the Anambra State Online Media seek to use this medium to inform the members of the public to disregard the said report as it is totally untrue in every ramification. Signed, MEZIE OBIDIGBO For ANSOM (Anambra State Media Online) Lalasticlala https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2988313117913603&id=729514517126819&_ft_=qid.6840030192676735218%3Amf_story_key.1698218187140860827%3Atop_level_post_id.2988313117913603%3Acontent_owner_id_new.729514517126819%3Apage_id.729514517126819%3Asrc.22%3Aphoto_id.2988310544580527%3Astory_location.5%3Astory_attachment_style.photo%3Aview_time.1592568632%3Afilter.h_nor%3Atds_flgs.3%3Apage_insights.%7B%22729514517126819%22%3A%7B%22page_id%22%3A729514517126819%2C%22page_id_type%22%3A%22page%22%2C%22actor_id%22%3A729514517126819%2C%22dm%22%3A%7B%22isShare%22%3A0%2C%22originalPostOwnerID%22%3A0%7D%2C%22psn%22%3A%22EntStatusCreationStory%22%2C%22post_context%22%3A%7B%22object_fbtype%22%3A266%2C%22publish_time%22%3A1592563749%2C%22story_name%22%3A%22EntStatusCreationStory%22%2C%22story_fbid%22%3A%5B2988313117913603%5D%7D%2C%22role%22%3A1%2C%22sl%22%3A5%2C%22targets%22%3A%5B%7B%22actor_id%22%3A729514517126819%2C%22page_id%22%3A729514517126819%2C%22post_id%22%3A2988313117913603%2C%22role%22%3A1%2C%22share_id%22%3A0%7D%5D%7D%7D&refid=28&__tn__=%2C%3B
