PoliticsChukwuma Umeoji Rejects Toll Gates In South East by Ctorch(op): 3:43pm On Oct 10, 2019
Rep Rejects Toll Gates in Southeast

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Aguata Federal Constituency of Anambra State, Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji has opposed the Federal government policy to revive toll gates, across the country, especially in the South East.

Hon. Umeoji through a press briefing at the National Assembly yesterday, suggested that the policy will worsen the plight of people from the region, who were already under the yoke of bad roads.

“The South East has the lowest Federal presence compared to other zones. The Federal roads in the zone have collapsed with a heavy toll on human life, goods and services. The Southeast has the least allocation of funds for road maintenance and re-construction but ranks highest in terms of proposed road taxation.
“What is the moral justification for tolling on roads that are not motorable? He queried.

Various government projects are done in total isolation of the Southeast, the railway line project is structured to exclude the zone he opined.
He alleged that “the zone is completely cut off from land, sea and air. The Enugu Airport is closed down, the Onitsha inland waterways are not functional. This infrastructural policy is to punish the South East and stifle development”.
He said the toll gates, would be “theatres of psychological and mental torture on the people and constitute the arena for humiliation, intimidation and extortion”.

The proposal to return toll gates to every state of the country has been greeted with protests from some groups around the country since govt’s proposal to bring back to the toll gates.
The policy suspended under the 1999-2007 administration of Ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo until recently, when the government of President Buhari, decided to revisit it.

PoliticsSHOCKING VIDEO: Mexico Mayor Tied To A Truck And Dragged Along A Road He Failed by Ctorch(op): 2:06pm On Oct 10, 2019
Residents of a Mexican city, reportedly tired of waiting for the mayor to fix a local road, dragged him behind a truck through the streets Tuesday morning.

Eleven people have been arrested in Las Margaritas, a municipality in the state of Chiapas, for their role in the attack on Mayor Jorge Luis Escandón Hernández, according to El Universal.

This is the second time that farmers have attacked the mayor, who said he will press charges for abduction and attempted murder, according to the BBC. His office was trashed four months ago.
Digital newspaper Tabasco Al Minuto tweeted a shaky video that shows a couple of men waiting at the back of a dark Toyota pickup as a gang of men pulled the mayor toward the vehicle.
Some city employees tried to stop the mayor’s capture, but their attempts were unsuccessful against the mob of angry farmers armed with sticks and tubes, according to Mexico newspaper Excélsior.

Media outlet Tinta Fresca Chiapas tweeted a video that showed a dark pickup moving past a nearby security camera as the mayor was dragged behind the vehicle with his hands tied.
Several police officers had to stop the vehicle to pry the mayor from the farmers who had dragged him through the streets of Santa Rita, a part of Las Margaritas, the BBC reported. Some people were hurt during a tussle between police and Escandón’s captors.

The mayor was reportedly unharmed, although he was being examined by medical professionals, according to the state’s attorney general’s office, which says the National Guard and the secretary of security and citizen protection were called to patrol the streets.
Attacks on political figures are not an anomaly in Mexico. Local politicians are frequently targeted by criminal organizations when they don’t comply with gang demands, but it’s less common for local officials to be assaulted because of empty campaign promises, according to the BBC.

PoliticsThere Is No Fund To Rehabilitate Enugu Airport's Runway — Fg by Ctorch(op): 6:48am On Oct 10, 2019
THERE IS NO FUND TO REHABILITATE ENUGU AIRPORT'S RUNWAY — FG

The gullible South East folks and their Southern counterparts would explain this one way.
Buhari has subtly closed the only international airport, which the South East has, and only upgraded from being a local airport by Goodluck Jonathan adminstration.

Suddenly, the Nigerian government of Muhammadu Buhari could not find fund to do the runway of Dr Akanu Ibiam International Airport. What a joke he is making of the Igbo and their people.
I wonder how these so-called Igbo leaders reason and sleep at night with obvious derelictions connected to them.

So, the money for a runway for the only and not even an international standard airport, which is the only one funded by the immediate past adminstration is nowhere within the coffers of the federal government of Buhari, but the same willingly pledged N1bn to Miyetti Allah.
I love the fact that Buhari is poking into the eyes of the Igbo people in such brash manner to let some morons who refused to see or hear or read the handwriting on the wall, to at least, read, see and comprehend.

The man has been bold enough to show the South East region that he can do anything he wants with them and there is nothing anyone, except Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB can do.
Where is the second Niger bridge their vuvuzelas trumpeted just during the election campaign. The few morons in the region, who have failed to see, hear and read, jumped up and danced.
To fool some gullibles, he closed down Akanu Ibiam International Airport and approved Ebonyi state to build an international airport in the state.
Usually, International Airports are built by the federal government, but the people of South East must build their own with their own state resources.

It took the federal government, with the help of oil money from the old Eastern region, days to upgrade Kaduna airport before the runway at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport’s runway was to be rehabilitated.

But now, it comes to rebuilding a single runway at Enugu Airport, the same government of Buhari has no more funds to do that of Enugu.
I still wonder why other Nigerians get obnoxiously angry that the Igbo feel not part of this country and say that the region is grossly marginalized.
I love what Buhari and his cabal are doing, they make the job of those pushing for Biafra very simple and easy.

PoliticsShettima Yerima: Tinubu Is The Last Person North Will Hand Over Power To by Ctorch(op): 5:33pm On Oct 08, 2019
Following national discourse on rotational presidency and statements from certain quarters in the north, especially the political elites, fears of a renege on the hitherto, “Gentleman’s Agreement”, seems to be rife.

In an exclusive interview with the National President Of The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Yerima Shettima, he told Independent that the north is of the feeling that the rotational presidency issue should be jettisoned.
Shettima who asked if the rotational presidency issue is constitutional stated that, “As you may know, time and event, changes a lot of things. Naturally, you will agree with me that we are practicing democracy and you will also agree with me that the North has faced a lot of challenges and as such, you cannot leave your house in hunger and take the little you have and give it out.

“So, we will ensure we lobby and work with progressive Nigerians towards this, considering the fact that we are faced with a lot of challenges; insecurity, unemployment rate is high and so many things were not done.

The entire government and administration of
President Muhammadu Buhari, favours the Southwest and other parts of the South. The North has nothing to show for it. So, you should not have expected that the North will just fold its hands and allow things to just go like that and allow this opportunity slip off our hands. No, it is not right.

Asked if this new decision by the northern elites will not cause a rift between President Buhari and his bosom friend, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu whom a lot of nigerians believe will be considered as the next President of Nigeria, the President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum retorted; “Asiwaju is even the last person that the North will even consider.

PoliticsNo New Projects In 2020 Budget - The Nation Newspaper by Ctorch(op): 3:35pm On Oct 08, 2019
THE Federal Government may have halted new projects in 2020 budget in favour of completion of ongoing and abandoned projects, according to feelers from the Ministry of Finance.
Besides, there is a stoppage to purchase of vehicles.

The budget estimate is likely to be submitted to the National Assembly next week after President Muhammadu Buhari’s return from his state visit to South Africa.

It was learnt that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have been given a budgetary ceiling for their capital expenditure needs in the 2020 budget.

Each of them has been given an envelope detailing what their capital expenditure covers, a source said on Tuesday.
The source added that because the Federal Government had resolved to complete ongoing and abandoned projects, the MDAs have been directed to remove the purchase of vehicles from their budgetary requirements.

But, military establishments may be exempted because they require operational vehicles to tackle insurgency and insecurity.
MDAs that have capital expenditure requirements higher than their approved ceiling, have been asked to adjust their budget or give convincing reasons why their demands should be accommodated.

Since the MDAs got their envelopes, ministers, permanent secretaries and top military and para-military chiefs have been visiting the Ministry of Finance and the Budget Office to defend their capital budget requirements.
The Federal Government has pegged capital expenditure for MDAs at N1.01 trillion exclusive of capital in statutory transfers.

The Wednesday (today) deadline given to the Senate Committee on Finance to submit its report on the 2020-2022 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) is no longer feasible, it was learnt on Tuesday.

The panel, which has since embarked on back-to-back meetings since the document was referred to it last Wednesday by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, is yet to receive presentation from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to enable it conclude its assignment on the MTEF/FSP.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Solomon Adeola, disclosed on his twitter handle on Tuesday that the panel would be taking submissions from relevant agencies Wednesday (Today).

Adeola twitted that: “Shortly after the @MBuhari Broadcast, I headed for office in Senate to continue work on (MTEF/FSP) 2020-2023 as Chairman of Sen Cmtee on Finance.
“I was joined by Sen Ayo Akinyelure, a member, to prepare for invited FG agencies’ presentation tomorrow. All hands/ sacrifices on deck,” he said.
The Senate had on September 25 received the 2020-2022 MTEF/FSP from President Muhammadu Buhari and on September 26, referred the document to its committee on Finance to report back on Wednesday October 2.
In the document, the Federal Government proposed the sum of N10.002trillion as the 2020 Appropriation Bill and the sum of N2.45trillion for debt service for next year.

It also proposed to borrow N1.7trillion.

CelebritiesVenita Reacts To Omashola Calling Her 'sbhonyonyo', Ugliest Mermaid In The World by Ctorch(op): 5:02pm On Oct 07, 2019
Ex-Big Brother Naija housemate Venita Akpofure, has reacted to a malicious word that was used against her by fellow housemate, Omashola, during his eviction interview with host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.
It would be recalled that during Venita’s stay in the BBNaija house, Omashola, who had been single since he got into the competition, made unsuccessful attempts to initiate a relationship with the fair skinned beauty.
Well, it appears the 38-year-old is still nursing a grudge towards Venita for turning down his advances at her.

During an interview that took place after his eviction from the house, Omashola while fielding a question about the status of things between him and Venita, referred to her as 'Sbhonyonyo'.
Although, he refused to disclose the meaning of the word, a search on the internet reveals the name to be that of an animated character that played the role of the ugliest mermaid in the world.

Reacting, Venita shared a post on her page that addressed Omashola’s statement.

“I believe in a Nigeria, where when a woman says no , she should not be subject to sexual harassment, physical inappropriateness , verbal or tribal abuses,” Venita note read.

The post has now been deleted on her page.
Venita made sure to also make herself clear after some of her followers took to her comment section in Omashola’s defence.

PoliticsMy Second Term Not Negotiable —obaseki by Ctorch(op): 3:57pm On Oct 07, 2019
Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has declared that his second term in office was not negotiable insisting that he deserves another term in office because he has fulfilled most of his promises to Edo people and need to consolidate on his developmental strides in the state.

Obaseki who when said this when he received members of the Benin Unity League in his office, insisted that “no individual can determine who will become governor. Only God and the people can make the decision.”

The governor said his interest to continue in office was for the right reasons, saying, “I have said it clearly and I told my cabinet members that the second term for me is non-negotiable. I am demanding it because I deserve it and I think I have earned it. We need to have it so that we can continue what we are doing today.”

“I want to assure you that this is a fight in which we will prevail. We will fight and succeed. If anybody thinks I will back out, he must be day-dreaming because it is not my fight; it is a fight for the right purpose. I am not going to back off because I know victory is sure,”

He added that nobody can accuse him of implementing a wrong policy, adding that the accusations against him were that he was not focusing on stomach infrastructure.

“We earn less today than we did in 2016 when we came into power, so where is the money to waste? We know how much we inherited as debt; we have to service them. Some people sit and say we should focus on stomach infrastructure. I said no, that I will rather focus on mental infrastructure,” he said.
The governor expressed appreciation to the Benin Unity League for understanding where the challenges were coming from and for supporting the truth.

President, Benin Unity League, Dr. Gregory Osa, said the visit was to join other Edo sons and daughters to reject the mischief in some quarters aimed at prematurely pulling the governor out of office, describing the move as “borne out of selfish motives.”

Osa added, “You are providing an enabling environment to make Edo an industrial hub. We are particularly interested in your push to develop the Benin River Port and the Benin Airport. You will not only win the battle; you will win the war.”
He explained that the association is a socio-cultural and non-political association established in 1983 comprising notable Benin Professionals.

CrimeHerdsmen Kill Farmer In Akwa Ibom by Ctorch(op): 7:19pm On Oct 06, 2019
There is palpable tension in Nkek village, Ukanafun local government area of Akwa Ibom State following the killing of a farmer identified as Lucky Christopher Udoakpan by Herdsmen

The council chairman, Mr. Uko Idiong, who disclosed this to journalists via a telephone call on Sunday, said Udoakpan was killed on Friday when he went to weed grass on his farm.
Idiong said the deceased was on his farm when some herdsmen entered and insisted on feeding their cattle with his crops and this led to a quarrel between him and the herdsmen.

He said the herders had in the fit of rage pulled out machetes and inflicted cuts on the deceased. The injuries sustained from the attack led to his (farmer) death.

The council chief said: ”The incident happened in Nkek village. Nkek village is in Ward 3 in Southern Ukanafun, Ukanafun local government area. Youths of the village called to inform me of the incident and I quickly went there with the House of Assembly member, Hon. Charity Ido, to inspect the scene.

“But before I went there I had to call my Divisional Police Officer, Edet Offiong, who was ahead of me. The police saw the corpse and took it to the compound of one of the chiefs in the village. So I told them to wait till I arrive.

” When I got there the youths of the village were aggrieved and I had to talk to them to remain calm. The villagers informed me that the deceased went to his farm to weed.
“When he (deceased) was there he saw the herdsmen with their cattle. He told them to leave his farm because the cows were destroying his crops.”

He said the villagers told him that when the farmer and the herdsmen were talking, the herdsmen challenged him (Udoakpan) and brought out daggers and machetes and cut the man in about three places on his body and he died.
“I directed that the corpse should be deposited in the mortuary that same day. It is regrettable and sad that the man died leaving behind his newborn baby who is still breastfeeding, a young wife and an aged mother.

“I told the DPO that they should look for the herdsmen who killed the man. But the police reported back to me, saying they could not find them as not even the footprints of the herdsmen or the cows were seen,” Idiong added.
The state Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Odiko MacDon, confirmed the incident, saying “the policemen are aware of the incident and investigation is ongoing.”

Politicsobiano Didn’t Tell Fulanis To Pay N.5m For Killing Any Person by Ctorch(op): 12:41pm On Oct 06, 2019
The state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. Don Adinuba said in Awka that attributing such a statement to the governor was politics taken too far.
According to the Commissioner, having failed to incite Anambra people to rise against innocent and law-abiding Fulani people in our midst, they have now resorted to other measures.

He said: “This is an unintelligent attempt at disinformation. Murder is a serious crime everywhere in the world and it carries capital punishment in Nigeria. It cannot be compensated for with money, according to Nigerian law. Human life is, indeed, sacred.

“The fact that some faceless politicians can carry their propaganda to the level of equating human life with money shows a total lack of respect for human life, let alone human dignity. These characters show no regard for law, order and peaceful co-existence.

“The hate mongers who have been trying to incite the ordinary people in Anambra State against fellow Nigerians conducting legitimate businesses in a peaceful manner must be held accountable should anything untoward happen to Anambra people in other parts of the country.
“They must be reminded for the umpteenth time that they are putting in harm’s way the lives of millions of NdIgbo who are working in other parts of Nigeria. These Igbo people are not subjected to daily demonization.

“There must be a limit to politics. The desperate search for power should not give rise to the dethronement of reason.
“The people and government of Anambra State are proud that their state has in the last four years emerged the safest but also the most peaceful and the most united in the whole country.

“As events have strongly established, social relations in the state are today defined by solidarity and fraternity and camaraderie. No vile or vicious propaganda against the state can make Ndi Anambra abandon this trajectory, which has brought about unprecedented development to our place. Anambra will remain Nigeria’s most socially harmonious state and, of course, the most competitive state in the whole country.”

Ekesons Makes History with First Class Cabin in Road Buses

A unique niche has been created in the public transport sector by E Ekesons Bros Nigeria Limited with the introduction of a truly First Class travel experience on some of its fleet of buses.

The buses which are already on ground and offering services, are fitted with a segmented First Class section which provides personalized audio visual facility enabling each passenger to select and watch whatever he or she pleases throughout the duration of the journey.

Each passenger in the First Class segment of the bus is also entitled to exclusive power outlets that enable him or her to charge a laptop and a phone.

In order to enhance the First Class comfort, the First Class section of the bus offers more leg room, leather chairs, and an ambience that is not any lesser than what is provided in the air bus. Aside the air conditioning system for all passengers in the bus, there is also refrigerated drinks and an in-built toilet.

Managing Director of the company, Engr. Chijioke Ojukwu stated that the introduction of the service which is first of its kind in the country for public transportation is meant to add value to customer experience.

According to him, “we have done this in so many ways, apart from improving safety, we have also been able to add more comfort. Currently, as the company stands, we have been able to bring in the first of its kind VIP Executive to the coach section. “So we now have coaches that will give you VIP experience which in Ekeson we call it B-SWAG. B-SWAG is a product we coined to suit both the old and the young, it is a bus system that give you far more leg room and more space for those who would want to sleep and also an on-board multi-entertainment system just like you have on the aircraft for long distance travels where you select your movie on demand, your choice of music, your choice of books on each seat.

“It is so personalised, you would not want to miss having that experience.

It is the first ever to be on the coach system in Nigeria. CrimeMan Disguises As Lagos Prostitute, Defrauds Patrons At Clubs (Photos) by Ctorch(op): 8:48am On Oct 05, 2019
MAN DISGUISES AS PROSTITUTE, DEFRAUDS PATRONS AT LAGOS CLUBS

Luck has run out on a 29-year-old man, Victor Monday, one year after he started disguising as a prostitute to defraud men.

Monday was arrested by a police team from the Mushin Police Station around 12am on Ogunmokun Street while he was in female costume waiting for “a client” by the roadside.

He was initially apprehended for staying late outside without giving any genuine reason.

City Round learnt that it was not immediately known to the policemen that Monday, who adopted the name Joy to perpetrate the crime, is not a female.

He wore a wig, makeup and put on padded breasts. He was said to have been kept in the female cell until much later in the morning when a policeman on an inspection around the cell spotted him.

The cop reportedly noticed he had few strands of beards which aroused his suspicion. His real appearance was unravalled by the officer who searched through his body.

A police source told our correspondent that Monday blamed the act on joblessness, adding that the suspect targeted men in nightclubs within the state.

“His mode of operation was to go to clubs at night and look for men he would spend the night with while disguising like a woman. He would dance around to attract men to himself. Whoever is interested in spending the night with him would approach him.

“He would collect some money from his unsuspecting victim as part payment for his service and have fun on his bill. While they were drinking and wining, he would tell the man that he wanted to urinate and use that opportunity to run away. He said he made between N7,000 and N10,000 per night,” the source said.

In his statement, the suspect, who hails from Rivers State, said he was a stylist before he went into the crime in 2018. He said he was once arrested by the police for the same offence but his church members assisted in securing his bail.

He said, “I came to Lagos last year and was squatting around. When it was night, I would look for a hidden place to dress like a woman and go to any club to dance as a woman. Men who have feelings for me would give me money, but I don’t follow them to hotels. I managed to run away.

“At times, I made N8,000 per day. I was going to a nightclub on September 15 when police arrested me. I told them my name is Joy, but later one of them discovered that I am a man. I do this because I don’t have a job.”

A police prosecutor, Inspector Koti Aondohemba, consequently brought the suspect before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court on four counts bordering on impersonation and fraud.

The offences, according to the police, contravene sections 168(d), 314 and 380 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The charges read in part, “That you, Victor Monday, on September 15, 2019, at 12.10am, on Ogunmokun Street, Akala area, Mushin, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did indecently act by presenting yourself as a woman in order to obtain money from members of the public, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 380 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs M. O. Tanimola, granted him bail in the sum of N80, 000 with one surety in the like sum. The case was adjourned till October 16, 2019 for mention.

PoliticsJUST IN: Okorocha Wants House Of Reps Scraped, Gives Reasons by Ctorch(op): 2:03pm On Oct 03, 2019
Senator Rochas Anayo Okorocha has canvassed for the reduction of Parliamentarians representing each state of the federation , saying the nation cannot afford their expenditure anymore .

Okorocha , a former Governor representing Imo West Senatorial District , stated this while contributing to a Committee report on MTEF at the Senate Thursday ’s plenary .

He faulted the bicameral legislature, saying that there was nothing too sacrosanct that Senators and House of Representatives members were doing that only senators could not do .

In his reaction to the 2019 budget deficit , which was revealed by the Committee report on Budget and National Planning , the former Governor said , government was expending too much funds on lawmakers .

“ Mr . President of the Senate , distinguished colleagues, let ’s tell ourselves the truth . Look at the number of House of Representatives members and Senators. ”
“ To me, what is too important that a House member is doing that a Senator from the same state is not doing ?”

“ It is time for us to sacrifice and I want to say that a Senator is enough to represent a State in order to cut cost . We must do sacrifice for the nation.”
Okorocha added that government should spend more money on production that would yield revenue for the country rather than capital expenditures .

Reacting, Senate President , Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan said , the Constitution provided for the practice of bicameral legislature, saying Okorocha was at liberty to sponsor a bill recommending one Parliament .

Senate President explained that the existence of upper and lower legislative Chambers was to enable lawmakers think deep and constructively for the country .
