PoliticsAnambra Lawmakers Asked For Prado, Not Innoson Jeeps, Says Govt by Ctorch(op): 3:05pm On Sep 29, 2019
ANAMBRA State government reacted weekend to the alleged preference of Innoson SUV cars to Toyota Prado Jeeps by members of the State House of Assembly, saying the lawmakers actually asked for Prado Jeeps.

The state government’s reaction came on the heels of reports that the lawmakers rejected the Prado Jeeps because of their enormous cost, as well as the fact that acquiring Innoson Jeeps would save cost for the state government and promote local industry.

But the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr Don Adinuba, said the reports on the cars for the state lawmakers were false and misleading, accusing the opposition Peoples Democratic Party ((PDP) in Anambra State of planting such reports to achieve unmerited political point ahead of the 2021 governorship election in the state.

Adinuba said: “The legislators did not reject Toyota Prados, neither did they request for Innoson vehicles. It was the House of Assembly members who asked for Prados, to be in line with vehicles used by legislators in every other state of the federation.

“However, when they saw the huge financial implications of purchasing 30 units of the 2019 model of Toyota Prado vehicles for each honourable member, the 30 lawmakers, who are easily the most patriotic, productive and considerate of any set of legislators in Nigeria, opted for the 2017 model (of Prado Jeep) .

“They are the only legislators elected in the 2019 general election to have the older model. By so doing, they have saved for the government and people of Anambra State a fortune.

“For purposes of historical accuracy, let it be stated in the public domain that it is the executive arm of the Anambra State government which has been leading the campaign to make the Innoson SUV its official vehicle.

In March, 2018, for example, following the second inauguration of the Obiano administration, an order for a fleet of Innoson SUVs was placed with Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) for Anambra State Executive Council members.

“The order, however, could not be met early enough, apparently on account of several orders from even outside the country. The government was consequently constrained to seek another brand. It settled five months later for Ford because a worthy son of Anambra State, Dr Cosmas Maduka of Coscharis Group, holds the Ford franchise in Nigeria.”

According to the state government, both the management and staff of Innoson Motors acknowledge that the Anambra State government “is not only its best customer, but also its greatest supporter”.

Going down memory lane, Adinuba recalled that on March 29, 2018, the state government handed over 40 Innoson pickup vans to the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Security, Anambra Vigilante Group, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Navy and National Security and Civil Defence Corps to enhance their capabilities in making Anambra remain the safest state in Nigeria.

He added that the state government would, in November this year, donate 60 Innoson SUVs to the security and intelligence agencies, adding that it was a well acknowledged fact that “not only does Governor Obiano patronize Innoson Motors more than any other governor, he has been marketing the vehicles to fellow governors and executives of corporate organizations across the nation”.

He said further: “Indeed, the Anambra State government is eminently proud of its relationship with Innoson Vehicle Motor Manufacturing Company. Its founder, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, is a role model.

“We are proud that he is a major investor in our state. We are prouder of his genius: he pulled himself up by the bootstraps. Despite his modest formal education, he has displayed world class imagination and creativity. He represents the typical Anambra story, which is a determination to succeed despite all odds.”

PoliticsObi’s Media Aide Condemns Attacks On Chimamanda Adichie by Ctorch(op): 8:53am On Sep 29, 2019
Media Aide to former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, Val Obienyem, who is also an author and barrister, has condemned recent attacks on author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Obienyem wrote in an opinion piece published in the Vanguard, in response to attacks on Adichie for writing an article about the dispute in the Guardian newspaper entitled, ‘My Hometown Under Siege’. The primary focus of her article was ongoing sponsored harassment and intimidation of Abba community residents.
Prior to publishing Adichie’s piece, the Guardian had carried out an investigation of the dispute and the facts that Adichie laid out in her article, even despite Adichie’s local and international stature and credibility- to ensure that there was sufficient basis to publish her piece, in line with journalistic best practices. The paper published the resulting 3- Page investigative report alongside Adichie’s article, with the combined 4-Page write up being entitled “Special Report”.

In Obienyem’s piece he stated: “I read what our pen export and one of the best in the world, Chimamanda Adichie, wrote about the land dispute between her town, Abba and Ukpo – both in Anambra State, Nigeria. It was the lamentation of a deeply-troubled soul over the impunity of men. Her timely piece is a necessary buffer against environing principalities eager to control or appropriate Abba.”
“Going by her stature and comfort zone, Chimamanda could have decided to remain aloof to the unjust plight of her people. But, with what she did, especially more from the urge to fight injustice than anything else, my respect for her has many times been magnified.”
He continued by writing: “I have met Chimamanda severally and on each occasion, was thrilled by her charming modesty and sense of propriety. Typical of her, she made her point clearly, and without denigrating anybody: Is justice up for sale to the highest bidder? Do we no longer have rule of law in this country? What are the actual duties of the Police — serving the nation or individuals? What wrong did she commit? All I saw was the disillusioned tenderness of a writer mourning the disorder in her country.”
Indeed, the main point of Adichie’s piece -which Obienyem highlighted- the aforementioned harassment, intimidation and disruption of family and business affairs of Abba residents, has not been denied by any of the parties concerned. To the contrary, there have been credible reports of same occurring, including video recordings and well documented statements to the authorities.
Some objective and informed observers of unfolding events have noted that personal attacks on Adichie, sometimes combined with recitation of the legal history of the land dispute, appear to be the means by which those behind the attacks on Adichie have sought to distract attention from the main issue which she raised about the harassment campaign, and to throw dust in the air to hide the facts.
Obienyem further said: “From her piece, it was obvious she did her home-work and was availed of all the facts. At a stage in one’s life there are risks one would not venture into. For a person of her standing to go through books, talk to people and come up with the synthesis of views on the matter, one is convinced that she has done the right thing.”

“On the contrary, it was with great embarrassment and indeed, shame that I read the reactions of those that called themselves “Igbo Youths” to what Chimamanda wrote. I was even more upset that the reactions were brazenly published as advertisements in newspapers. Do they expect Chimamanda to condescend so low as to engage in “tru bum tru bum” with them? No way!
“The so-called youths being used are ordinarily those that should be enjoying the calming hypnosis of a well-written piece — Chimamanda’s Lamentations and Other Works. Alas, there they were, abusing and pouring obloquies on her.”
Obienyem stated: “Clearly, the practice of exchanging people’s conscience with money has not ceased as those so-called youths have proved.”
Obienyem also discussed other issues which he considered salient, including his view of the distorting effects of misuse of wealth on the Igbo culture today, and indeed on many other cultures in the country, and how it has led directly and indirectly to this situation of serious and accomplished individuals being attacked by sponsored groups. He rounded out by saying “There must be limit to madness in this clime”.
Adichie is renowned for being extremely familiar with and knowledgeable about Igbo culture and history despite her relative youth: including of her hometown, local government area and Anambra State. Indeed, the late literary icon Chinua Achebe said of Adichie early in her career, ‘We do not usually associate wisdom with beginners, but here is a new writer endowed with the gift of ancient storytellers…Adichie came almost fully made’.
She has received various awards and commendations from successive Anambra State governments over the years, including most recently in 2016, being honoured with the Anambra State Award for Excellence by the current incumbent, His Excellency Governor Willie Obiano. She had previously been the keynote speaker at Governor Obiano’s 100-Days in Office event.

Former Anambra State Governor, and current Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige had previously honoured her by gracing an event celebrating Adichie in her hometown, Abba, at the beginning of the decade.
At the national level, the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had previously distinguished her with the Global Ambassador Achievement Award in 2011.
Adichie has received numerous international awards, including 14 Honorary Doctorate Degrees from leading universities, including one of her alma maters, Yale University.

“We are also supporting the governor for approving free Contagious Bovine Pleuro Pneumonia (CBPP) vaccination for over 23,000 cows belonging to our members in the state,” he said.

The group also commended Mr Bello for putting in place measures which had led to a reduction in clashes between farmers and herders in the state.

It also stated that the governor had given its members a sense of belonging by appointing one of them into his cabinet and by making their leaders members of the traditional councils at the state and local government levels.

The national organising secretary, who was flanked by the state Chairman of MACBAN, Umaru Jaido, also said they decided to endorse Mr Bello’s candidature because of their love for President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abubakar Ohere, who received the endorsement document on behalf of the governor, thanked the group for adopting Bello as its candidate.

Mr Ohere described Gov. Bello as a leader with a large heart, saying that his priority had always been to provide security for all, irrespective of tribe and religion.

He said that Mr Bello decided to include Fulani leaders in the traditional council to reduce communal clash, especially between farmers and herders.

While thanking the association for the endorsement, the commissioner said the gesture would propel Mr Bello to do more for the people of the state.

While the World is still pondering over that, more facts emerged Wednesday that the suspect who hails from Buguma in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of the state has further confessed that the actual number of women he killed was 15, and in seven states, and nine in his home state alone.
David-West, an alleged repentant cultist (Dey-gbam confraternity), told newsmen that he takes joy in strangling young women in hotels whenever the urge to kill comes.
He claimed that he did not cut his victim’s vital parts.

MORNING PURGE.

OUR GOVERNOR MUST SEE THIS.

What you are seeing is not a photocropped video. It is not from a Nollywood movie scene. This is REAL and Life in Anioma.

This is a secondary school in Anioma. It is a school located in a local govt council that shares boundary with the state capital. It is a school located right in the heart of Ibusa. It is called Ibusa Girls Grammar School.

The member representing Oshimili North LG is from Ibusa. The commissioner for Basic education is from Oshimili North LG. The senator representing Delta North is from Ibusa and the governor of Delta state is from Anioma.
This is an eyesore our camera caught few days ago and our investigation revealed that the member representing Oshimili North in the DTHA ,Hon Pat Ajudua is aware and has been aware for over a year of this situation. Unfortunately, she is not bothered because her children or her relatives' children CAN NEVER attend such a school. Commissioner for Basic education,Hon Pat Ukah is also aware even while he was in charge of information.
This is the place our children are left to study in this century.

We are calling on Gov Okowa to help these children since the people they look upto for help have failed them.
This eyesore is not good enough and we are calling on the ministry of Basic education to stand up to its responsibilities by embarking on an immediate renovation of this dilapidated structure called a school in the capital territory. We do not have to wait for another Baby Success story before something is done.

LiteratureA Rebuttal To: My Home Town Is Under Siege, An Article By Chimamanda Adichie by Ctorch(op): 8:10am On Sep 24, 2019
A REBUTTAL TO:MY HOME TOWN IS UNDER SIEGE, AN ARTICLE PUBISHED IN THE GUARDIAN OF 20/9/19, WRITTEN BY CHIMAMANDA NGOZI ADICHIE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR.

When I read Adichie’s article, the first emotion that flooded through me was anger. There she was, the entire page 12 in the Guardian devoted to her; adorned with her personality, juxtaposed with her flowing prose but crisscrossed with fabrics of ignorance, half-truths, outright lies and sheer fabrications. In literature, Ngozi Adichie is precocious and a prodigy, respected in Nigeria and around the world. How could she put her shiny reputation on the line with such a spectacularly uninformed adventure, even for her beloved hometown? How dare her turn facts on its head and try to subvert the immutability of truth and the integrity of history! In fiction, Adichie is permitted to create her own version of reality; however, in the real world, reality is protected by facts, and facts are sacrosanct.
Just then I remembered, and I was not angry with her any more. I remembered that Ngozi Adichie, with all her literally achievements, hails from Abba, a bellicose and belligerent town. In her community, pugnacity is an inheritance, and mendacity is in the heritage. There is a saying that you cannot completely cure madness, even with the best education!
Adichie may be the last hope for Abba to thwart the course of justice. They have tried to instigate communal clash; Ukpo and Ukwulu did not take the bait. They serially tried in the court of law, and failed every step of the way. They stole the trial court’s Record of Proceedings to force a re-trail; that also failed. They enlisted the sympathy of Anambra government; so far not much concrete result. Now it seems, Adichie is Abba’s last hope. To be fair to Adichie, she would not be the only person to put her reputation on the line for her beloved town, but she must also be prepared to the muddied in the process.
An important indigene of Abba recently told me that in this land dispute between Ukpo and Abba, Prince Arthur Eze makes the only difference. In other words, Ukpo could not defeat Abba if not for the involvement of Arthur Eze. I thought that was stupid statement because you cannot separate Ukpo and Arthur, but it goes directly to the heart of their plan to use Chimamanda Adichie to discredit Prince Arthur Eze. Currently, the battle cry in Abba is to destroy Ukpo’s case by first destroying the reputation of Arthur. The way Abba reckons it, their illustrious daughter has enough standing to sully Prince Arthur’s image and depict him as a wealthy bully who represents all that is wrong with Nigeria; to cast him as an influential man who has the police in his pocket; a land grabbing billionaire who would stop at nothing to forcibly acquire other people’s land; and a mean-spirited man who uses his wealth to oppress Abba people instead of improving lives. In a nutshell, that is the sole purpose of her article – to damage Arthur’s public image and make it stick. But she does not know Arthur. In the words of my people (God bless Ukpo), what can a small rat do to an iron pot?
I can bet my farm that Adichie has never met Arthur Eze. If she had, she would have known better, much better. You do not have to be Arthur’s friend or kinsman to attest to the fact that he is the most conciliatory, the kindest person, and arguably the most public-spirited billionaire God created. If Adichie has ever met Arthur, she would know that he has no iota of meanness in him, and that the Almighty God created Arthur for the sole purpose of giving, as opposed to amassing anything, least of all land. If Adichie is given the least insight into the land matter between Abba and Ukpo, she would have known that Arthur Eze is Abba’s best advocate, to the chagrin of his own kinsmen.

WHAT ARE THE FACTS

Nogozi Adichie is too young to have had any meaningful personal experience of the land dispute, so it is safe to assume that her parents and kinsmen handed down the story to her. Yet the sheer number of lies, the falsifications, exaggerations and the gusto with which she handled her ill-fated presenttion are simply stunning. My task therefore is to state the facts, set the records straight. The land dispute has lasted for more than 44 years, so the best approach will be to chronicle the important timelines.
Brief History: The existence of Abba as a community is a consequence of ancient inter-communal war, when its progenitor, Ichinambubor, a mercenary from Ichida, fought against Ukpo and Ifite-Dunu. He was captured; but instead of putting a sword through his heart as was the norm in those days, his life was spared. An expert wine tapper, Ichinambubor was, again contrary to what obtained in those ancient time, settled in Ukpo and Ifite-Dunu lands, where he was engaged in palm-wine tapping (you could argue that Ukpo and Ifite-Dunu liked buzz!!). Being a virtual slave, Ukpo and Ifite-Dunu refused to grant Ichinambubor a wife, so he ventured afar to Abagana to take a wife. His first son was named Abamulu, meaning that Abagana made it possible. The present-day Abba is thus descendant from Ichinambubor and his son, Abamulu. That Abba community is now rising to challenge Ukpo, the original settlers and their benefactor, to a land dispute is testament to Ukpo’s magnanimity. It is also a testament to Abba’s perfidy. But there it is: in the last 80 years or so, Abba embarked on massive land annexation and expansionist endeavors. They encroached upon Ukpo and Ukwulu lands, and farmed and hunted far beyond imaginable scopes. In the last 44 years, they set out to make the lands permanently theirs. They took Ukwulu to court accusing them of trespass. After initially serving as witness for Ukwulu and alarmed that Abba was also claiming a big chunk of Ukpo land, Ukpo joined the suite in a consolidated format as 2nd set of defendants (Suite Nos. AA/53/75 & AA/ 11/77).

JUSTICE OBIORA NWAZOTA: On 12TH November 1999 the Chief Judge of Anambra State, His Lordship Hon Justice Obiora Nwazota, delivered judgement in consolidated suites in favor of the two brothers, Ukpo and Ukwulu communities. The learned Chief Judge dismissed the claims of the plaintiffs (Abba) with respect to the disputed land, whilst the reliefs sought by the 1st and 2nd sets of defendants (Ukwulu and Ukpo) with claims to the land as “Agu Odoagba” and Ogwulugwu Land” in Ukwulu and Ukpo, respectively, were granted. This case was the last decided by Justice Nwazota, as he retired from the bar, as well as Anambra Chief Judge effective afterward.

JUSTICE G.C. ONONIBA: On 18TH November 1999, Abba filed a notice to appeal and were given the conditions of appeal, with which they proceeded to obtain stay of execution from His Lordship, Justice G.C. Ononiba (now Chief Judge of Anambra State) on 11/12/2000. Curiously, Justice Ononiba, from Nimo which claims kinship with Abba, granted an unconditional stay of execution to Abba, thereby presenting to the plaintiffs (Abba) through the back door what they could not obtain during the substantive suit.
Armed with the unconditional stay of execution against Nwazota’s judgement of 12 November 1999, Abba lost interest in pursuing the appeal. And even though the stay bounded all parties over to maintain peace in the area and on the disputed land, Abba entered the land, setting up the infamous “Oye Abba” market, indiscriminately planting signages, building shops, renting plots to GSM operators and collecting tolls, while they plotted to subvert justice. (Justice Nwazota’s judgement was considered so thorough that the only option available to Abba to overturn it was by destroying the Record of Proceedings, in order to force a completely new trial.)

SETTING THEIR SUBVERSSIVE PLOT IN MOTION: (23RD October 2003 is a fateful day, so mark the date. But this background story first.)
During the Justice Nwazota’s trial, Ukpo and Ukwulu had compelling evidence. All our neighbours: Enugu-Agidi, Nawgu, Awkuzu, all stood witness to the fact that Ukpo and Ukwulu have been their land neighbors for centuries. Nobody in the immediate vicinity bore witness for Abba. Abba claimed kinship with Abagana and Nimo but were hard pressed to prove why they do not have contiguous borders with Umu Owelle. Traditionally in those days, brothers lived next to one another, and if Abba was blood relative of Abagana and Nimo and Ezi-Owelle, it should have been placed in direct contiguity with them. On the other hand, Ukpo proved without shadow of doubt that we were the original settlers and all Dunu brothers lived contiguously. The evidence and witnesses were iron cast, and Abba knew it. They had to find another way to circumvent justice.
They hired a new lead lawyer, the indefatigable Wole Olanipekun (SAN). The new lawyers found a creative way, the Western style: if the Record of Proceedings disappeared, they would be in a position to argue for trial de novo (a new trial). This strategy was particularly enticing because all the witnesses who appeared on behalf of Ukpo and Ukwulu were, by this time, dead. So why not, they would give it a shot; a big shot it was! Abba sent out town criers every night to impose levies for the war chest. I could hear them late in the night, cajoling and threatening those who were hesitant to pay. For good measure, Abba hired a legal consultant, one retired Justice Olike, from Nawfia, whose wife was conveniently the Assistant Registrar of Anambra State High Court. So now, Mrs. Olike, the Assistant Registrar, was in the bag! The plot was actualized on 23rd October 2003 (I told you, remember this date). That was the date the Record of Proceedings containing the judgement of Justice Nwazota disappeared, never to be found again. (How do we know this date? You’ll find out later.)

Being now rest-assured that the Record of Proceedings has disappeared for good, Abba went on the offense, yelling that they cannot transmit records to the Appeal Court in Enugu because Ukpo had stolen the Record of Proceedings to frustrate their appeal. Never mind that this is a text book example of crocodile tears.
Early in 2004, alarmed by the insidious scheming by Abba, a group called CONCERNED CITIZENS OF UKPO, wrote a petition to the Nigerian Judicial Commission (NJC), requesting an investigation into the missing Record. And lo and behold, six months later the NJC set up the Otuocha Panel of Enquiry, headed by Honorable Justice P.A.C. Abidigwe, to look into the missing Record. The Panel released its report on 15/12/2006, and the most important finding was that the Record of Proceedings was last signed for on 23rd October 2003 by the office of Mrs. Olike, the Assistant Registrar of Anambra State High Court. I told you, remember 23rd October 2003; and remember Mrs Olike. Her husband was the Chief Legal Consultant of Abba in the case. In conclusion, Tribunal pointedly stated that Mrs Olike, Abba and their legal team had a case to answer regarding the missing Record.
Does anybody still doubt that Abba bribed, connived and conspired to steal and destroy the Record of Proceedings? Remember it took Abba less than one month to file notice of appeal and obtain a stay of execution, but did not file the substantive appeal in four years. Appellants are required to satisfy the conditions of appeal by, among other things, transmitting records to the Appeal Court within 6 months, failing which they will be out of time to appeal (unless they ask for time extension). In this case, Abba was out of time and did not show any desire to prosecute their appeal, did not ask for time extension in six months, one year, two, three, then four years. At which time their case had suffered a mortal defect.

APPEAL COURT ENUGU: In line with their original plot, Abba approached the Appeal Court Enugu, armed with the plea that the Record of Proceedings was missing, and asked the Court (via motion No. CA/E/30/2009) to direct the Anambra State High Court to start the case de novo. Remember: since Nwazota’s judgement, this has been their over-arching strategy. However, on 27/6/2016, the motion was struck out by the Appeal Court for want of record.
SUPREME COURT: Expressing dissatisfaction with the Appeal Court ruling, Abba approached the Supreme Court, pleading denial of fair hearing. The Apex court directed the Appeal Court to re-instate the motion (No. SC/115/2009) on the basis of human right to fair hearing.
BACK TO APPEAL COURT: Again, the Appeal Court on 11/7/2017 resolved all issues canvassed by Abba in favor of Ukpo and Ukwulu, and threw out the appeal. The higher court also vacated Justice Ononiba’s 12/11/1999 stay of execution, paving the way for Ukpo and Ukwulu to re-possess their lands.

BACK TO SUPREME COURT: Abba rushed back to Supreme Court and formulated 4 grounds of appeal against the Court of Appeal’s ruling. On 15th of February 2019, in a lead judgement delivered by Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, the Supreme Court ruled against Abba and in favor of Ukpo and Ukwulu in all the four issues formulated, and also awarded N1,000,000 cost in favor of the defendants, Ukpo and Ukwulu.

ABBA’S FIXATION ON PAGE 27

The Supreme Court judgement of 15th February 2019 runs in over 37 pages, but Abba is fixated on only page 27. Abba’s distraction stems from the fact that the learned Justice took an academic expedition. Before arriving at the four issues formulated for the Appeal by Abba, the lead judge, Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje had undertaken what laymen could describe as philosophical and intellectual excursion. During that ventilation, the learned Justice introspected on the impact of the missing Record of Proceedings on the concept of justice itself. Lawyers call this type of reverie “obiter dictum”, an unforce-able point of view, which is irrelevant when points of law are being considered. Alas, Justice Galumje expressed an “obiter” which Abba found complementary to their cause, and they are determined to hold on to it, like a drowning man furiously grasping a sinking trunk. But Justice Adamu Galumje’s view was a casual expression of a viewpoint while he was on his way to the law points. An “obiter” is unforce-able.
On the other hand, there is “ratio decidendi”, which are the pivotal points of any suite. Abba formulated 4 grounds in their appeal. None of them asked the Supreme Court for trial de novo. Neither was de novo canvassed during any of the hearings. Delivering judgement on all four grounds, the Court ruled in favor of Ukpo and Ukwulu and awarded costs to the same parties. Lawyers will tell you that the court does not give that which is not asked for. At any rate “obiter” cannot be enforced against “ratio”.

Abba has done a great de-service to her illustrious daughter, Chimamanda Adichie, by not availing her of the Supreme Court judgement; because you do not have to be a lawyer to understand the ruling. Which is the reason why I am shocked that not one person in the whole of Abba town could correctly read, understand and explain the judgement to their community. If Chimamanda was given, and read, the Supreme Court judgement before she wrote her article in the Guardian, I will be entitled to make a case of intellectual deficit against her!!

WARRANT OF POSSESSION

Supreme Court represents the bus-stop of all litigations in Nigeria; when it rules on any case, one can only appeal to God. In line with this time-tested legalistic wisdom, the Chief Judge of Anambra State, upon being served the Supreme Court judgement, issued Ukpo and Ukwulu the clearance (Warrant of Entry) to re-possess their lands. Or, is Abba community suggesting that the Chief Judge of Anambra State does not understand the Supreme Court judgement? The Commissioner of Police Anambra State has been served the Supreme Court judgement, as well as the Warrant of Entry; that is why the Police is on firm ground in upholding the law and enforcing the peace on the erstwhile disputed land. Or, is Abba community also suggesting that the Commissioner of Police does not understand the Supreme Court ruling?

ABBA SAID IT’S BACK IN COURT
Abba insists it has once again filed a suite on the same settled issues at a trial court in Anambra State. The mere fact of Abba filing another suite on same issues on which the Supreme court has ruled is itself seminal and profound. Because what Abba is asking Anambra State trial court to do is to set aside the Supreme Court ruling! That is huge, and I am sure, Chimamanda will be able to put this new gigantic development in her most colorful prose.

PoliticsTimi Frank: Osinbajo Is The Chairman Of Yahoo Yahoo In Nigeria by Ctorch(op): 10:01am On Sep 23, 2019
N90bn FIRS election fund Osinbajo’s problem, not 2023 politics ― Frank

A political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has said the ongoing travails of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is allegedly due to corruption

Frank revealed through a statement on Monday in Abuja that he has reliable information from his sources in the presidency to the effect that Osinbajo’s travail has nothing to do with 2023 but alleged mismanagement of about N90 billion Naira released by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to prosecute the last general elections in favour of the APC.

Frank said: “The presidency discovered how Osinbajo allegedly mismanaged N90billion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

“When confronted by the presidency, he confirmed to General Buhari that he indeed allegedly took N90billion from FIRS but it was used for the 2019 presidential election campaign in strategic states of the South-west.

“Gen Buhari asked for a breakdown of how the money was spent and he said he gave N11 billion to Lagos state APC leader but when the said national leader and one former APC chairman were invited for an explanation, it was confirmed that Osinbajo gave only N5billion and not N11billion to Lagos state.

“The cabal is asking to know how come they beat PDP in the South-west with less than 60,000 votes if the money was actually spent in the strategic states of the South-west as allegedly claimed.”
The activist insisted that if the information is true, Osinbajo must resign his position as Vice President, adding that such is akin to the characteristics of ‘yahoo boys.’

Frank said since the former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki is being held on allegations of embezzlement while Osinbajo is also allegedly being accused of embezzlement, “they should be given the same treatment.”
He added: “This goes to confirm the NEMA case against Osinbajo concerning the N5billion that he was alleged to have siphoned.

“The ball is in Gen Buhari’s court to show Nigerians that he supports corruption from his cabinet members and do nothing or he is indeed truly fighting corruption and therefore force him to resign.

“No wonder the fight against corruption under this administration is not yielding positive results as expected.”

Frank wondered why Osinbajo would always be the first to brand people like Bukola Saraki and ex-President Goodluck Jonathan with corruption “whereas he is the chairman of ‘yahoo yahoo’ in Nigeria.

“How do we expect the ‘yahoo boys’ to change when the VP is their chairman? Nigerians must not feel sorry for Osibanjo as the time to pay for his yahoo yahoo activities has come.

While calling on Nigerians to ignore the claim that Osinbajo is being witch-hunted by the cabal, Frank said: “If Osinbajo is investigated, Nigerians will be shocked to find more revelation about his activities.

“If he fails to resign, the National Assembly must begin the process of impeachment against him as a matter of urgency to prove to Nigerians that 9th Assembly is not a rubber stamp of the executive.

“Finally, I call on Osinbajo to immediately apologise to God for his ‘yahoo yahoo’ behaviour and repent otherwise he will be disgraced out of office.”

Christianity EtcOsinbajo's Enemies Are Mainly From South West - UK Pastor Reveals God's Mind by Ctorch(op): 5:58pm On Sep 22, 2019
- Some people want to bring down Osinbajo, a UK-based pastor has stated
- Pastor Ken Akinmade also said some politicians and journalists are behind it
- Akinmade subsequently urged Nigerians to pray for the vice president
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is a target of some people, Pastor Ken Akinmade of Christ Church, London, UK has declared.
According to the cleric who urged Nigerians to pry for Osinbajo, the plans to bring the vice president down would fail.

The man of God who disclosed this on Sunday, September 22, said he saw some politicians gathering and in their midst were some journalists.
He said they were how they will disgrace the Osinbajo and ridicule him in the eyes on Nigerians using fake news.

“The Bible is very clear. Gather they shall gather but if their gathering is not of the Lord Almighty it will be destroyed and scattered. I enjoin all Nigerians to pray for the vice president.

“In the vision, I heard a voice saying where is their proof, where is their evidence, where is their proof.”
“It was then I realised that there was no proof or evidence against him, it was then I saw that they had only gathered against God’s chosen to do him evil and in that instance I began to pray in the spirit.”

“His biggest enemies are those from the south, mainly the southwest. Those who he might think are his brothers and sisters are among those who have ganged up against him.

“They have seen his glory and they are trying everything humanly possible but they forget that man is not God.
“I do not know the vice president personally but this is what I have to say to him, Sir, be very prayerful. You are a sheep in the midst of wolves,”
he stated.

PoliticsNigeria Needs More Female Engineers ―anambra Dep Gov by Ctorch(op): 5:01pm On Sep 22, 2019
ANAMBRA State deputy governor, Dr Nkem Okeke has advocated for the projection of more females into the engineering profession in the country, arguing that engineering was one of the professions where women could thrive if supported.

Receiving members of the Association of Nigeria Women Engineers at Government House, Awka, Okeke, who is a fellow of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (FNSE), expressed satisfaction at what he called the fading superstition that female participation in engineering was a taboo.

According to him, sensitizing women to understand the profession better would propel more girls to get into the study of engineering to excel in the profession currently dominated by men.

He commended the association’s efforts aimed at encouraging young girls into engineering and advancing the professional development of practising female engineers.

The chairperson of the association in the state, Mrs Oluchi Okoli said the association had mapped out a programme that would inspire younger females to take up careers in engineering.

Already, no fewer than 10 pupils selected from various schools in Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka local government area of the state would be sponsored by the association to study from primary school to university level in engineering courses.

CrimeFresh Crisis In Bandits-ridden Zamfara As Fulani, Hausa Square Off by Ctorch(op): 10:06am On Sep 22, 2019
A source familiar with the crisis said some herders, believed to have migrated from either Shinkafi or Birnin Magaji local government areas of the state during the administration of former Governor Abdulaziz Yari, decided to settle at an area west of Gwalli community in Gummi Local Government Area.

There is palpable fear in Gwalli district of Gummi area in Zamfara
State following a fresh altercation between Fulani and Hausa
communities, Daily Trust on Sunday reports.
A source familiar with the crisis told the newspaper that some
herders, believed to have migrated from either Shinkafi or Birnin
Magaji local government areas of the state during the administration
of former Governor Abdulaziz Yari, decided to settle at an area west
of Gwalli community in Gummi Local Government Area.

“During the days of the crisis between herders and farmers in the
state, especially at its peak, the state government asked the herders
to vacate the area.
“The Abdulaziz Yari-led government wrote a letter to the Gummi Emirate
Council, Gummi Local Government and local security chiefs, ordering
the herders to leave the area, on the suspicion that they could be
criminals.

“When the herders settled at the area, they began to purchase lands
and some other property, largely through the local chiefs. They
settled and started working on the lands they purchased, and suddenly,
there was an order by the authorities for them to leave the area.
“Following the order, some unscrupulous elements decided to take
advantage of the situation and began to confiscate the properties
acquired by the herders. They drove the herders away and took over
their lands.

“But unknown to the authorities, the herders, who reportedly migrated
to the neighbouring Kebbi State, were planning to avenge the treatment
meted out to them. So they came back to the communities on a vengeance
mission, which coincided with the time the Governor Bello Matawalle
administration had struck a peace deal between herders and farmers in
the state. As you know, the authorities would not relax and watch
anyone cause trouble after the peace deal; that is why they quickly
intervened to de-escalate the tension,’’ the source said.

The paper quoted a resident of the area, Hassan Idris, saying, “When
the herders arrived at the communities, people fled their homes out of
apprehension. You know that in a situation like this, the herders
wouldn’t bother to distinguish between those who offended them and
those who did not. There could be high casualties; that is why the
people saw them and fled.
“But the fleeing residents have now returned to their homes and
normalcy has been restored. The timely intervention of the police
really saved the situation. All the aggrieved parties have put
everything behind them for the sake of peace.’’
Also, the spokesman for the state police command, SP Muhammad Shehu,
said the commissioner of police, Usman Nagogo, led other officers to
the palace of the Emir of Gummi, Alhaji Hassan Lawal, to consolidate
on their earlier peace-building processes.
“The two warring groups of Fulani and Hausa communities from Gwalli
and Makaranta villages in the local government were assembled at the
palace of Emir of Gummi. The reason for the assembly was to address
the existing rivalry/dispute through peaceful dialogue and
reconciliation so as to avoid unwarranted loss of lives and
property,’’ Shehu said.

He said Nagogo, who presided over the meeting, called on the two
warring parties to voice out their grievances in order to address them
once and for all. He enjoined them to respect the resolutions reached
during the meeting by accepting the peace deal, as well as avoid
anything that could lead to a breakdown of law and order in Gummi and
Zamfara.

Nagogo assured them that the ongoing peace initiative was being
carried out with all sense of sincerity and justice to all the
parties. He thanked the emir for his continued support and cooperation
to the peace initiative.
Speaking at the meeting, the Emir of Gummi, Alhaji Lawal Hassan Gummi,
commended the commissioner of police for his untiring effort in the
restoration of lasting peace in Zamfara State. He promised his
emirate’s continued collaboration and assistance to the ongoing state
government’s commitment to ensuring peace and tranquility.
During the meeting, all the disputing parties were given equal
opportunities to voice out their grievances. To this end, important
issues were extensively deliberated on and all the warring factions
unanimously agreed to forgive and forget so that there would be
lasting peace, not only in Gummi Emirate but in the entire state.

2023: NOTHING WRONG PRESIDENCY REMAINING IN NORTH –ANGO ABDULLAHI.

Former Vice Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and leader of Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF) and ex-Vice Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof Ango Abdullahi, said that part of the trouble with Nigeria is that the elite do not keep documents and have politicised everything as critical evaluation of positions of different ethnic groups in the country showed that the North has been short-changed as key positions were not with them.

He said that the much noise on lopsidedness that favoured the North was not true, insisting that there was nothing wrong with the appointment of more Service Chiefs from the region, arguing that other ethnic groups have enjoyed it before now without the North complaining.

In a recently interview with Sunday Sun he insisted that there was nothing wrong with the presidency remaining in the North in 2023 if Nigerians decide so through majority votes.

His words: “What we are witnessing is a sad development, very dangerous arguments that are being put forward. How many offices are we even talking about and you are saying lopsidedness of offices?

“Have you looked at the offices in the civil service and those that occupy them, so what is the fuss all about? Are they parochial or are they biased in the discharge of duties concerning other parts of the country?

“This is a very sad development because this is driving us into areas that will be very unfortunate for this country.

“The trouble with Nigeria is that we don’t learn from our history and we don’t keep records of history. I have just done an exercise in a booklet form to show appointments of the First Republic since independence in 1960 to date, to show who was in what office and from what area, from what religious faith?

“By the time you see it, you will be sorry asking this kind of question because the question appears to be parochial by those who have such a view and should not arise”

PoliticsNgige To APGA: 2021 Is End Of Your Reign In Anambra by Ctorch(op): 2:39pm On Sep 21, 2019
Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen Chris Ngige, says the dominance of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA in Anambra State, will come to the end in 2021.
The former Governor of Anambra State, and Senator who represented Anambra Central senatorial zone, spoke with The Nation at the weekend.

He declared that the All Progressive Congress APC, had made mistakes in the state before and would not allow such to repeat itself again during the forthcoming Governorship election in the state.
Ngige took APGA government in the state to the cleaners, adding that in the party’s many years of leadership, that everything had collapsed including roads, hospitals education among others, noting that only the roads his administration built in the state were the only ones standing.

Ngige, said his Party, APC would do everything possible in 2021 governorship election to ease APGA out of the way, saying ‘enough is enough ”
Going further, he said the Specialist hospitals his administration planned to build in all the Senatorial zones in the state to stop our people traveling to India and dying, was stopped by the APGA government till date and it was not fair to our people.
According to the Minister, “I don’t think APC will lose the state again, we will work hard not to lose this state, we shall put whatever we can, we put it in because we need this place, we need it more than APGA”

” APGA handled this place in the last 16years and they have not shown us progress. Look around, the roads that are motorable today are the roads I built as governor, should that be the situation after 16years?
” the answer is big no. look at the hospitals, all the general hospitals you can’t point at one and say it’s very functional or there’s a good referral centres”
” Federal government should actually concern itself with polices of and do pilot programmes like they are doing of one teaching hospital in every state, if you don’t have, they will give you a free medical centre. It’s a pilot programme as far as I’m concerned on tertiary health”

The state government should build their own teaching hospitals and call it state teaching hospital, fund it and refer their people there”
” Most of the state universities are not well funded as we speak today, is only federal universities that are founded, only federal universities you will see lectures teachings and doing research. The state tertiary institutions, be it their university, be it polytechnic, colleges of education are not working ”

“So, we need actually the state government to know what their responsibilities are, if they don’t know, they should go back to their constitution or go to school or come to their house to be tutored ”

“After our last Senatorial election, we noticed some cracks and those cracks were more widened and because of the way the presidential election was managed here and national assembly elections too”
” we know we didn’t perform well at all but we have still gone back to the drawing table, we have started asking ourselves the reason for the failure to deliver and we are getting the answers,” Ngige said

TV/MoviesBbnaija: Seyi’s Mates In Port Harcourt Have Six Children - Tacha Fires by Ctorch(op): 11:19am On Sep 18, 2019
BBNaija's Tacha and Seyi have gotten in a brawl after trying hard to stay away from each other
- Just recently, the two housemates were battling things out and calling each other all the names in the book
- In one utterance, Tacha called Seyi a mummy's boy whose mates in Port Harcourt have six children
BBNaija's Seyi and Tacha have hardly seen eye to eye. Though they seemed like besties at some point, the two have become sworn enemies again and this time, it seems the discord is unresolvable.
Just recently, the two housemates were seen hurling words at each other and calling themselves all the names in the book. Seyi who was driven to an annoying level was captured hitting the ground with his slippers and mocking Tacha.
Tacha on the other hand, fired at Seyi and stated that his mates in Port Harcourt are married with six children yet he is still being a mama's boy. Her insults were also counter-attacked with Seyi hurling words and the entire thing looked like a serious battle.

PoliticsObaseki'll Win Re-election Without Oshiomhole by Ctorch(op): 2:08pm On Sep 17, 2019
A former Political Adviser to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Mr. Charles Idahosa, has said that Governor Godwin Obaseki would win re-election in 2020 even without the support of Oshiomhole.

Idahosa said Governor Obaseki has won the heart of the people through infrastructural projects that cut across the state and bringing sanity to governance.
Speaking in a chat with newsmen in Benin City, Idahosa said the quarrel between Oshiomhole and Obaseki would be difficult to settle because it emanated from envy and jealousy.

Idahosa stated that Oshiomhole was being intimidated by the records of Obaseki’s achievements.
He said Obaseki has performed 85 percent in three years against Oshiomhole’s 45 percent performance in eight years.

According to him, “Oshiomhole said he brought only one Commissioner. That is a lie. Oshiomhole brought the Deputy Governor, he brought the APC State Chairman, he brought the SSG.

“The main issue between Oshiomhole and Obaseki has not been brought to the fore. We know they are busy working underground to stop Obaseki but nobody can stop Obaseki from having his eight years.
“Obaseki’s record is so intimidating. Oshiomhole wants to be the lone star in the state. The truth is that Oshiomhole is envious and jealous of Obaseki..”
Details shortly…..

CultureOkonjo Family At War Over Delta Traditional Stool by Ctorch(op): 9:03am On Sep 17, 2019
There is crisis brewing in Ogwashi -Uku in the Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State , following the unauthorised announcement of the death of the town ’ s 91 - year - old monarch, Obi Chukuka Okonjo , and subsequently naming of a successor allegedly by his daughter and former Finance Minister , Dr . Ngozi Okonjo - Iweala .
PUNCH gathered that the main anger of some members of the Umu Obi Obahai Royal Family was that Okonjo -Iweala anointed her younger sibling as successor to the throne without the approval of the ruling council .
A contender to the stool, Patrick Okonjo , a lawyer and brother to Okonjo - Iweala ’ s father had in a press statement accused the former minister of usurping the functions of the royal family and men who should traditionally announce the death of the traditional ruler as well as his successor .
The statement read in part, “ It is sacrilegious of Ogwashi- Uku custom and tradition for a princess to announce the transition of a monarch or proclaim another . It is a purely traditional function .
“ Late Okonjo was never an Obi of Ogwashi - Uku under our tradition but a mere regent . Accordingly , his first child cannot be Obi as deceitfully inferred by Ngozi . ”
But the royal family of Ogwashi - Uku faulted the claims that the newly crowned Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo , was installed in error .

In another statement jointly signed by the acting Diokpa; Umu Obi Obahai Royal family , Prince Emmanuel Ohei , and others, on Monday , the family said , “ We want to make this known : Patrick Okonjo does not speak for the family ; he speaks only for himself as he has always done . ”
The statement noted that the new Obi was rounding off traditional processes and would soon begin his reign .

PoliticsMASSOB Insists On Independence Of Biafra, Iwuanyanwu Says Igbo Didn't Cause War by Ctorch(op): 9:03am On Sep 16, 2019
MASSOB Insists On Independent State Of Biafra, Iwuanyanwu Says Igbo Didn't Cause Civil War

ent for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) says realizing independence for Biafra from Nigeria would end the numerous forms of slavery the Igbo suffer in the country.

Leader of MASSOB, Uchenna Madu, stated in Awgu, Enugu State, during the 20th-anniversary celebration of the group, that there was no going back in the struggle for the Biafra republic.

MASSOB, he added, was committed to the quest for an independent state of Biafra.

Madu said, “These undeniable realities are the reasons the Nigerian state is afraid of Biafra, which represents the truth they cannot legitimately counter.

“Biafra speaks of the truth Nigeria know they are guilty of; so out of weakness, jittery and fear, Nigeria resorts to repression, persecution, killings, and detention of Biafran agitators.

“MASSOB has resolved that 20 years of our long walk to freedom can never be jeopardized, compromised or corrupted. The reformation and rededication of our committed and consistent efforts in the actualization of Biafra has brought back our lost confidence and trust on Biafra’s actualization.

“MASSOB shall never relent in its non-violent Biafra struggle because the truth shall always prevail over falsehood,” he said.

In a related vein, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu said the Igbo were not the remote cause of the 1966 military coup that culminated in the Nigerian civil war.

Speaking at an event in Owerri, Imo State, at the weekend, he said, “The coup that started the civil war was not caused by Igbo, but because they didn’t have the media, they were linked to it. People outside Igbo land then controlled all media.

“The propaganda was against the Igbo, who were projected as very greedy and over-ambitious.”

PoliticsNigeria Must Accept Restructuring Or Dissolution —yoruba Leader, Prof Akintoye by Ctorch(op): 10:29am On Sep 15, 2019
Leader of the Yoruba World Congress , emeritus Prof Banji Akintoye , is a former Head of the Department of History , University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University , Ile Ife , Osun State . He tells FEMI MAKINDE in this interview that his organisation will work with all groups to defend Yorubaland

You were elected the leader of the Yoruba people on August 22 by some groups but it took you almost one month to respond to this offer . Why ?

I had to make consultations and I consulted widely before I responded . I deeply appreciate the organisations and the leaders who met in Ibadan on August 22 and took the step of electing me . I am convinced that all of them, individually and collectively , were motivated to take this step because of the desire to see the interests of our Yoruba nation further advanced . This is more so because of the circumstances in which we Yoruba people find ourselves today in the context of Nigeria . My message to all Yoruba people now is that we need to unite . The danger facing the Yoruba nation is great. We are under invasion and we need to unite to defend Yorubaland .

How do you intend to get this done ?

We intend to work with everybody who is interested in defending Yorubaland . With all of us working as a determined team through the instrumentality of a worldwide Yoruba organisation , we shall work closely and positively with , and give encouragement and assistance to the tens of organisations that are standing up for the defence of our Yoruba nation and the protection and promotion of our nation’ s interests . We shall commit ourselves to all efforts to move our Yoruba people forward and upward again in the direction that would revive their vitality , enterprising character , creative energy , love of elegance, and love of sensitive, dutiful and decent leadership and governance . We shall commit to fostering and promoting ideas and agendas that will open wide doors of opportunities to our youths and our women . We shall commit ourselves to serious efforts to forge the quality of Yoruba unity and morality that will impart serious strength , confidence , sense of national oneness , and sense of duty to our people – to the Yoruba farmer on his or her farm , the Yoruba worker in his or her place of work, the Yoruba entrepreneur and businessperson creating or managing a business in the daunting terrain of Nigeria , the Yoruba teachers and their students in our educational institutions, the Yoruba trader in her trading , the Yoruba craftsman in his workshop , etc. We commit ourselves to relating and interacting positively , without discrimination , with the Yoruba politician , the elected Yoruba public official and professional bureaucrat at every level of government in Nigeria , the governments of all our Yoruba states , and the governments of our LGAs, all to the end that they will all consciously employ their positions , their power and their influence for uplifting , uniting , empowering and enriching our Yoruba nation.

What is the relationship between your group and Afenifere ?

Afenifere exists as a very prominent organisation and I will respect it as such . That is all I can say.
But is your group different from Afenifere ?
We are creating a worldwide Yoruba organisation . It is different from Afenifere and I am sure you know that there are many groups different from Afenifere . Afenifere is just one of the groups . We have Yoruba Assembly , ARG, Yoruba Council of Elders, Yoruba Unity Forum and others like that . But our organisation is going to be a worldwide Yoruba organisation .
What is the name of your organisation ?
We are calling it Yoruba World Congress . We haven ’ t announced it yet but your medium might be the first to announce it .
What is your position on Ruga ?
Whatever Ruga is, Yorubaland is not for a thing like that . What Ruga is Fulani settlement and when they settle there they will begin to oppress those living or farming close to their settlements .
Yorubaland is a no - go - area for Ruga. There is no land for Ruga here and that is our position, that is the position of our people. This is the time for our people to support all the governors in Yorubaland irrespective of their political parties . We are not talking politics and we want our people to support the governors to reject this because we are aware there is pressure on them. We need to support them to do the right thing and we must let them know that we are not hostile towards them in any way . We are not thinking about party affiliation and we should respect them as our elected leaders . But they must defend our Yoruba nation and we will support them in whatever they do to defend our ( Yoruba ) nation. This is the time to close ranks and defend our land. They should lead and we will follow them.

South - West governors have established a security outfit to tackle insecurity in the land. How do you view this ?

This is a good one . We are going to thank them for this . It is good they are thinking and working towards addressing the insecurity problem in the region . We will meet the Chairman of South - West Governors ’ Forum which is the Ondo State Governor , Rotimi Akeredolu . We don ’ t know much about the outfit and we will not hesitate to offer advice if we see how they can achieve the desired result . We will work with them. Our group is populated by people with expertise and who know the terrain very well. We are building an organisation that is replete with expertise in security , economy and other areas .
About 123 northern youths entering into Lagos State were recently intercepted and questioned by security agents and released . Are you satisfied with this ?
That is a danger . Some days before those boys were arrested , our organisation got information that 40 vehicles would bring some youths to the South - West. Those ones that were questioned were just some of them. They could not arrest them because they are Fulani and that the Federal Government of Nigeria is protecting them. That the Federal Government is protecting Fulani people against our people even right here in Yorubaland is obvious. There are people that were attacked by Fulani people in their farms and they ran to the police but the police said they could not do anything against the Fulani people because the government is backing them. They will lose their jobs if they arrest Fulani people no matter what they do . There have been cases where Yoruba farmers arrested Fulani herdsmen destroying their farms and who were engaged in other criminal activities, they took them to the police but the police said they didn ’ t have the authority to arrest them. That is what is happening and that was why Gen. Theophilus Danjuma said the military were colluding with the Fulani herdsmen killing his people. Danjuma is correct because he spoke from the position of knowledge. He saw the happening and he interviewed some of the troops. Most of the rich people traveling to Ondo and Ekiti states now go by air from Lagos and when they land in Akure Airport , they hire security personnel to escort them to their various towns . We are a people under an invasion , we are under siege

Why do you think Nigerians are always attacked in South Africa and other parts of the world ?

Nigerians are always attacked because our image is horrible. We are seen as highly corrupt , immoral and destructive people . People in some countries don ’ t want us anymore. The impunity here - some of our people want to carry them abroad .
But it is surprising that South Africans could be killing Nigerians and destroying their legitimate businesses . We don ’ t deserve this at all. Even if some of our people are bad , they are not supposed to be killed and maimed by South Africans considering the role Nigeria and Nigerians played when they were fighting for their freedom . Nigeria played a major role and this was one of the reasons they eventually became free. We supported them massively , we gave them financial support, diplomatic support and all kinds of support. Killing Nigerians in South Africa is very wrong . But their economy will suffer if they succeed in chasing Nigerians and other Africans out of their country. Their reputation in the world will also suffer .
The governments of Nigeria and South Africa should investigate what led to the brutal attacks against Nigerians . I think there is the need to investigate this . Even if they say Nigerians are bad and are into drugs , I am sure that not all Nigerians there are bad . From the stories that we have heard , South African policemen join their youths to attack Nigerians and ask them to leave their country. That is why the two governments need to investigate this thing . They sent a delegation led by Oliver Thambo to Nigeria in 1980 when apartheid was growing stronger and we (Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs ) made recommendations to President Shehu Shagari that we needed to support South Africa .

There are claims that many Nigerians are trooping out of the country because of the poor economic situation in the country . Is this true ?

That is correct . The poor economic situation is driving many abroad to seek greener pastures but Nigerians are not running overseas because of the economy alone , insecurity is driving many away from the country as well . Nigerian youths are lining up day and night in front of embassies begging for visas to travel out of the country. Those who can ’ t afford that are helping themselves by traveling across the Sahara Desert sailing in rickety boats across the Mediterranean to get to Europe . Many of them die regularly in their bid to get to Europe .

Has your view on restructuring changed ?

Restructuring is absolutely necessary for the survival of Nigeria . If Nigeria does not restructure itself , it will have to accept the dissolution of itself . If we delay to restructure any much longer , then there may be no Nigeria to talk about .

There are claims that the South - East has overtaken the South - West in the area of educational development. What is the reason for this ?

No , this is not true. South - East has not overtaken us . The cumulative effect of our earlier start in education will for a long time put the South - West ahead of any part of Africa not only Nigeria . Educational standard has gone down all over Nigeria and that is what the people controlling government at the centre want . In the midst of their efforts to devalue education , some may be claiming to have overtaken the South - West.

Are you saying those controlling government at the centre are deliberately doing this or what ?

The reason is that the Fulani controllers of the Federal Government who the British handed over the control of the country to at independence are afraid of education . This is not because of Islam but because of their ethnic interest. If Hausa kids are flooding to school the way Yoruba kids and Igbo kids and others have been doing , what do you think will happen to the Fulani tiny population in the country? The Fulani are about six million while the Hausa people are about 47 million . This small number of people hold the position in Hausaland . They developed the almajiri system to make sure Hausa kids do not go to school . Rather than creating schools for children , they get Quranic teachers who may have 500 kids or more. At times , the teachers may use the kids for farming and even send them out to go and fend for themselves .

Is it correct to say that almajiri system is contributing to insecurity in the northern part of the country ?

Yes it is . When you have a huge population of the youth with no education , no skills roaming around , it is a time bomb . The problem will even spread to other parts of the country later . So , it is a big problem .

What is your reaction to the state of Lagos - Ibadan Expressway ?

The road is no doubt the busiest in the country and work has been going on it for so many years . The people in power are not really interested in doing it and it is the same thing with the road that leads to Apapa where the nation is making so much money . The road that leads to the port where we make so much money is so bad just like the roads that lead to Badagry . The roads were allowed to deteriorate despite their importance to the economy of our country . They were allowed to deteriorate because they ate in the South- West. There are other roads that are also very bad all over the South - West. There is no road between Akure and Ado - Ekiti . The last time I traveled to Ado - Ekiti from Akure instead of 25 miles the driver took me through Igbara which was about 70 kilometers to Ado - Ekiti .

Are you saying they would not have allowed it to deteriorate if the road was not in the South - West ?

If it was in the North , it would have been done long ago . They would not even have allowed it to deteriorate . Nobody would have been suffering on these roads if they were in the North .

The Federal Government has started making efforts to fight insecurity in the South - West . How do you view this ?

The Federal Government is not interested in fighting insecurity caused by Fulani herdsmen anywhere in the country and not just the insecurity in the South West. I was in Benue State as part of the delegation of the South- West, South - East , South -South and the Middle Belt to commiserate with the people of the state after the massacre and the massive destruction of property by herdsmen in Benue in January 2018 . Governor Samuel Ortom said the attackers , herdsmen , gave them a notice before they struck . He also read a letter written to the state by herdsmen after the attack notifying them of another attack which promised to be more brutal than the previous ones . They wrote in the letter that the land not only in Benue State but land all over Nigeria belongs to the Fulani and that they had mobilised Fulani people from all over West Africa to reclaim their land . They said they had accumulated weapons and money to carry out this and that the Federal Government could not stop them. We southerners have been superficial in our understanding of this matter . There is a well coordinated plan to conquer the peoples of Nigeria . There is a programme of ethnic cleansing going on in front of us and we are not rising up to stop this . This is not politics, this is war .

Do you mean Fulani people are behind this plan to conquer the entire country ?

Yes , they are .

Are Yoruba people prepared to defend their land ?

They are not but I pray they will be . More and more Yoruba people are waking up to this reality that the land is under siege. The only thing is that Yoruba nation is potentially powerful to defend itself .

Are you making efforts to bring the Oodua People ’s Congress which are in different factions together ?

Really , what I knew before I returned to Nigeria was the OPC under Gani Adams who is now our Aare Ona Kakanfo , we invited him and he came to America and we were impressed by what he said . But when I came back I realised that there are factions. In the interest of the Yoruba nation, we need to beg them to come together and work for the interest of our land.

Are you working with other Yoruba organisations ?

There are many Yoruba organisations that are doing well. There are many of them that are doing well , they may not have huge resources but the little they have , they are doing well with it. We are working with all of them, we need to encourage everybody.

There are claims that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is the leader of Yoruba nation . Does this affect you in any way ?

I don ’ t think anybody is making that claim. I have never heard of it. That is what I can say .

But will you work with prominent Yoruba leaders like Tinubu and others ?

It is duty of the Yoruba leadership of today to be totally non - partisan , to see Yoruba nation as a family and not to interfere in partisan politics . This is how we are going to do it . In 2015 , I led a delegation of Oodua Foundation and we visited every important Yoruba political leader and the Obas and leaders of major civic organisations . We visited Chief Olu Falae , Pa Reuben Fasoranti , Asiwaju Bola Tinubu , Chief Bode George . We visited them in their homes and when the All Progressives Congress won the election and our plea to them was that Yoruba people should close ranks because Tinubu had been able to achieve to his aim and we all should work to see how our nation would benefit from it. We appealed to them to stop attacking him and Chief Bode George was gracious enough and said he would no longer attack Tinubu politically . He made the promise . That is my attitude and I am too old to play partisan politics and Yoruba nation needs a non - partisan leadership.

Will you want presidency to be zoned to the South - West in 2023 ?

I want Yoruba people to have the best in 2023 .
