PoliticsSallah: Obaseki Approves Payment Of August Salary To Workers by Ctorch(op): 7:17pm On Aug 07, 2019
Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has approved the payment of August salary for workers who are willing to receive their money ahead of Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
A statement signed by his media aide, Crusoe Osagie, said the governor gave the approval at the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

He said the governor wants the workers to have enough funds to celebrate the festive season.

“The state government is aware of the needs of our workers, especially Muslim faithful, this festive season.
“So, the governor has created the leeway for those desirous of getting their salaries earlier than usual to get it. All they need to do is to indicate that they want their salary starting from today, Wednesday August 7.”
He added that the state government will continue to prudently manage the state’s resources to ensure that workers’ welfare is not only adequately taken care of but also position the state for positive growth

The senator representing Enugu North, Sen. Chukwuka Utazi, has finally distributed constituency projects valued at N117 million to some constituents after the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) recovered the items from him.
The items that included 228 motorcycles, 51 tricycles, 203 grinding machines and five transformers were stashed in Senator Utazi’s residence until the Constituency Projects Tracking Group (CPTG) of ICPC waded into action to recover them.
The senator was Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti-corruption and Financial Crimes between 2015-2019.
Tracka , a good governance initiative that monitors constituency projects across the nation, said that Utazi’s constituency projects were finally distributed to the intending beneficiaries on Wednesday.

The ICPC recently said that about N2 trillion was spent on constituency projects in Nigeria since 2000, without commensurate development at the grassroots.
“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has again recovered items worth N117,123,375.44 million from the Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State,” the anti-graft agency had said in a statement.
“The items covered by this amount and recovered from the legislator are 168 and 51 numbers of motorcycles and tricycles respectively. They were discovered to be stashed away in a compound in Mkpologu town of Uzo-Nwani Local Government Area, believed to be owned by the Senator.
“The tricycles, motorcycles and grinding machines were meant to be distributed to the lawmaker’s constituents to empower them as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate poverty.
“Additionally, ICPC recovered 203 grinding machines, 60 motorcycles and 5 transformers in the compound which had been procured under another constituency project. Thereupon the Commission impounded all the items and sealed the Senator’s compound.”

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has said that every Nigerian has the right to protest but must properly articulate their grievances.

He spoke with State House correspondents after a meeting of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He however condemned the revolution protest by the convener of the Global Coalition for Security and Democracy, Omoyele Sowore.

PoliticsA Second Civil War Will Be Calamitous— Dan Suleiman by Ctorch(op): 11:05am On Aug 07, 2019
Former Military Governor of Plateau State and a leader of the defunct National Democratic Coalition, NADECO, Air Commodore Dan Suleiman, retd., in this interview advises those beating drums of war and revolution in Nigeria to learn from history. He also called for dialogue to resolve issues bedevilling Nigeria.

On the state of the nation and where we got things wrong

What we are doing wrong is that we are not learning our lessons. We are not learning lessons from our history because this country went through three years of civil war. We lost millions of people due to hatred and disharmony. So, if that did not teach us a lesson, then, we are a very sad people. But it is not too late for us to come together and agree on how we should live together as one people.

What I find very strange recently is two heads of state having to convey their grievances through the media whereas there is a Council of State where they should meet and discuss issues of importance. That is where President Muhammadu Buhari should call them so that they can air their grievances and from there, they should propose new ways of moving Nigeria forward.

You are referring to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s letters but was it wrong of him to have pointed out loopholes in this administration?

He didn’t do wrong but it would have been better if his views were expressed under a forum like the National Council of State and these issues were discussed as leaders to leaders and recorded; then decisions would be taken on the way forward. Speaking to the media has some degree of frustration on their part. At their stage in life, they should have handled these issues differently.

Current events in Nigeria appear similar to the events of 1966 that led to the civil war…

Such a disaster should not be allowed to happen again. We saw war and we saw how ugly it was. A second civil war in Nigeria will be a calamity and we cannot afford it. One thing that Obasanjo said is that we cannot afford a Rwanda-like situation and elements seem to be pointing in that direction and as he also said, these things are avoidable. What is avoidable should be avoided. That is why the President should convene the National Council of State immediately for these elders and leaders, including state governors to come out with immediate short/long term solutions to these problems. We should not wait for things to get worse before we act.

On if NCS members would attend the meeting given their boycott of the last presidential inauguration.

The National Council of State is a constitutional body created for these kinds of things. I don’t think the heads of state and former presidents will refuse to attend such a meeting because it is part of their constitutional responsibilities. So, they will attend. Nigerians should learn from history and people who don’t learn from history are calling for disaster. Our experience of the late 60s and early 70s is not a pleasant experience and now, it would be worse. Around the time of the civil war, we were about 60 – 70 million Nigerians but now, we are about 200 million people. It would be worse than a genocide.

On the government’s alleged inability to curb herdsmen menace, killings and kidnappings

These issues are not beyond us. But we need to sit down and put our heads together to solve these problems. There are fundamental issues that are causing these things. There is a lot of distrust around the nation. People don’t trust one another any more and it is a very unhealthy situation to be in. But I’m optimistic that if the President can do the right thing and call the leaders: the former presidents, former heads of state and current governors to sit with him and talk, I’m sure they will come out with solutions that will get Nigeria out of this situation.

What role do you think politicians should play in restoring peace?

Politicians must be there because if they are not, you are calling for military intervention and will that be the solution? No. I was part of the NADECO that said the military should go back to the barracks despite my military background. Democracy is what we agitated for and Nigerians have embraced democracy. If we say democracy cannot work for us, we are talking about anarchy which is not what we want.

Our forests have been invaded. Everywhere you look, people are lamenting what herdsmen are inflicting on Nigerians. Are these beyond our security agencies?

For goodness sake, we serve a living God and our God is a God of peace. We should seek to do things peacefully and urgently. The Bible says when we repent of our sins and call on our God, He will heal our land.

Sometimes, God inflicts things on people for them to learn a lesson. Nigerians should learn from history and this history should be taught in schools but unfortunately, we have withdrawn history from schools (policy has been reversed). This should not be. History should be taught in schools so that our children should know that we have had a bad experience and should not go back to that. History should be taught so our children should learn from the ugly past that should not be repeated.

Social media appears to be part of the problem and hype issues out of their proportion

Social media is a creation of the devil. It creates more harm than good but it’s part of modernisation which we have to find a solution to.

How do we get rid of these criminals masquerading as herdsmen? Kidnappers are everywhere. Currently, it is difficult to drive on Nigerian roads or go from one city to the other…

Nowhere in Nigeria is safe. I’m from Adamawa State and it’s the same situation where one cannot drive safely from one local government to the other. People cannot go to their farms without the fear of being attacked. It’s a very bad phenomenon especially when many of these people are not even our own citizens but from other neighbouring African countries. What is happening is an invasion of our country by foreigners. Our borders are very porous and that is why we must sit down and discuss all these problems, because these problems need resolutions and we have to resolve them.

Herdsmen shouldn’t be going into people’s farms to destroy their crops. Why should this be? Why should the farmers be afraid to approach security men if all is well with the security set up? If anybody offends you, under the rule of law, the only person you are to go to is the police. The duty of the police is to ensure redress but people can no longer go to the security agencies because they cannot get redress.

CelebritiesLagos Police Arrests Tekno For Conveying Half-Unclad Girls In Traffic by Ctorch(op):
LAGOS POLICE ARRESTS TEKNO FOR CONVEYING HALF-NAKED GIRLS IN TRAFFIC.

For breaching public decency by conveying half naked girls in traffic, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested popular musician, Augustine Kelechi, aka Tekno.

THISDAY gathered that he was arrested on Tuesday and he is undergoing questioning at the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba.

Tekno had sometime last week conveyed half clad girls, who were dancing seductively, in a transparent glass box on a truck around the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.

In the truck, the musician was seen spraying the scantily dressed girls with money as they danced.

Following the public outcry it generated, the state government reacted swiftly and condemned the move.

In his defence, Tekno said he merely used the truck to convey his crew to a location for a shoot, which was not intended to breach public decency.

Confirming the arrest, the state Police Spokesman, Bala Elkana, a deputy superintendent of police, said he was invited for questioning.

He said: “The command has arrested Tekno and the two girls for conveying half naked girls at the Lekki area of Lagos.
“He is presently undergoing questioning at the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti.

The police said such acts of public indecency is against the criminal code and if after investigation those involved are found guilty, they would be charged to court.

Already, the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency has suspended the advertising firm, Pro-Vision Media Systems Limited

Enugu State: Herdsmen Strike Again, Kidnap Royal Father & Wife, Shoot at Travelers – Nearly Killing Two.

Barely three days after Reverend Fr. Paul Offu was gruesomely murdered in the Awgu area of Enugu State, another indigene of Enugu state, name withheld, has narrowly escaped an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen within the same Local government Area where the Reverend Father was murdered in cold blood. He paints a shocking and mind-numbing picture of what had transpired:

“Yesterday, around 5:30 Pm as I drove from Isuochi to Enugu, the unthinkable happened. This was just before UNTH after Awgu junction.

“Suddenly, this hooded Person ( dressed in Fulani Regalia) jumped out of the bush in front of me and started shooting at my Car. Before I could make anything out of it another three appeared a bit in front and bullets started flying everywhere. I have been hearing about Fulani Herdsmen but what I saw yesterday is better imagined than experienced.

About one Kilometer from there, just before UNTH and NNPC Mega Station was a Military Checkpoint. I heaved a sigh of relief and slowed down. I told the Army guy what was going on just behind their Post. He casually told me that they were aware.. that the driver in front of me just told them. I asked him why he was still standing there without making any move to save the vehicles behind, and he just looked at me blankly and waved me on.

“By now, my entire dashboard was full of red lights. The temperature of my Car hit the highest point on the meter. I slowly drove down to the front of NNPC opposite UNTH and pulled the Car out of the road.

It was then it dawned on me what happened. There were over 20 bullet holes in my front fender. Most of these bullets hit directly at my Radiator and other things in front of the engine. The tires which they were after, didn’t get a scratch. There were also two bullet holes on the passenger side of the Car. And few others around the Booth. Let God be praised !

“But in all these, not one of those bullets touched my body and that of Prince, the boy with me. At the Military Checkpoint, we pleaded with the army people to alert others not to go in that direction.

“Praise God with me. Nigeria is surrounded. Nowhere is safe. This thing is far more serious. The Government and people of Nigeria should better treat this as an emergency. It’s beyond Politics. Anyone can be a victim,” he narrated.

Coming on the heels of this harrowing experience, and happening almost simultaneously, a royal father from Awgu Local Government Area was kidnapped along side his wife.

The Enugu State Police Command on Monday confirmed the abduction of the traditional ruler of Obom-Agbogugu, Awgu Local Government Area, Igwe Sunday Orji and his wife by unidentified gunmen, reports Punch News

The abductors are said to have contacted the royal family, demanding a N50 million ransom.

Igwe Orji was reportedly kidnapped with his wife around Ogbaku before Agbogwugwu junction along Enugu-Port-Harcourt expressway while they were returning from a Thanksgiving Mass organised by the Bishop of Awgu Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Ifeanyi Okoye for his aged mother, Ezinne Ekedimma Okoye, held at St. John’s Pro-Cathedral Church, Owelli Awgu on Sunday around 5.00 PM.

The traditional ruler’s vehicle was badly damaged with gun shots in the bid by the marauding terrorists to forcefully stop their mobility. HRH Igwe Sunday Orji and his wife were however forced out of the vehicle and taken away as captives through a bush path to an unknown destination, reports Family Writers.

Enugu State is the de facto political capital of the Eastern region. Eastern region of Nigeria is predominantly Christian with about 99.2% Christian population. Like the predominantly Christian North Central region (Middle Belt) of Nigeria, the Fulani herdsmen have relentlessly waged a war of attrition on predominantly Christian communities across the country, giving unquestionable credence to the allegations that the intent of the Islamic killer herdsmen is Islamization and land dispossession.

It is worth noting that the Nigerian government under president Muhammadu Buhari has yet to find a solution to these killings. If anything, the impunity with which the herdsmen carry out their attacks smacks of presidential conspiracy and hypocrisy in the brutal gamble with human lives, ongoing right now in Nigeria.
