The almajiri system/culture is so deep-rooted that whatever effort you make to get the children off the streets and send them to school will be frustrated. They prefer roaming about tattered, looking pale with flies pecking on their cracked lips to living a good life. I tried helping one some years back and he called me 'Dan banza'. His mallam came to the office the next day and told me to not 'brainwash' his supposed ward. Since then, I dey maintain my lane with them.
One can only imagine the mind control techniques their mallams use on them. The model school that was established by Goodluck Jonathan's administration in katsina state to help take them off the street has since turned to a cattle grazing center grin.

Family / Re: Should Children Say Thank You To Their Parent(s) After Every Meal? by Cuddlebugie(f): 8:26pm On Oct 05, 2017
Little wonder we have many entitled adults who are very unappreciative of what they have been blessed with, believes the world revolves around them and are insensitive to the feelings of others. What harm is there in instilling grateful feelings in your child not just for the 'big' gifts but for provision of their basic needs?

It's not okay to take your leave soon after you've been treated to a meal, especially at a neighbours place. You gotta work for the 'free food' by playing with Junior, talk about Kachikwu's letter to Buhari with daddy and tell mummy about the new ride of the hottest babe in the estate........

As you all know, we LIKE TO PARTY. Our wedding ceremonies are very colourful and classy but we are no money-grubbing demons. It is not a Yoruba thing for the groom to buy clothes for the entire village. Haba!
Your friend, the groom is the new Jesus for the bride's family as they've casted ALL their cares upon him. He won't know what hit him when those people are done with him cheesy

Culture / Re: Why Do We(igbos) Love Speaking English Language To Our Fellow Igbos? by Cuddlebugie(f): 7:38pm On Sep 22, 2017
Did I just see Yoruba mentioned in your post......Yorubas don't shy away from speaking their mother tongue? Is it the same Yorubas that have declared on unending war on their mother tongue? The ones who'd rather speak foreign tongues than speak their native language? Don't get me started on the attitude of the educated Yorubas towards our mother tongue.........
The negative attitude towards ones indigenous language is not just an igbo "thing", it's a Nigeria "thing". Majority of Nigerians are guilty of this. The educated ones who are supposed to be the repository of their indigenous languages are the ones who have alienated themselves from their own language.

Family / Re: I Am 36 And I Am Being Called 'sir ' By Everyone? by Cuddlebugie(f): 7:48pm On Sep 12, 2017
'Sir' doesn't connote old age. It's basic courtesy, an element of formality and distance. Someone you have no close relationship with can't call you by your first name, can they?
I'm in my late twenties, the youngest in my place of work and yet, I'm addressed as ma'am by people old enough to father me. I'm cool with it as it doesn't make me feel ancient.....

That said, you are four years shy of forty, SIR. Get used to feeling old.

Romance / Re: Is Introduction The Same Thing As Traditional Marriage? by Cuddlebugie(f): 8:04am On Sep 12, 2017
No, introduction is not the same as traditional marriage.
It is basically his family coming to meet yours to make their intentions known and pick a probable date for engagement/traditional/white wedding. The man's family comes with gifts like wine(s) and fruits.
A long list is given to the man's family in preparation for the traditional wedding. Introduction is more of a small parlour party......

Now, things have changed. People don't bother about the traditional/white wedding anymore. Once a man knocks up a lady, his family meets with the lady's, pick a date for 'introduction' and boom, all is settled.

Nairaland / General / Re: Ask Me Anything You Want About My Country (Ethiopia) by Cuddlebugie(f): 8:12pm On Sep 03, 2017
Hati13:

The country that we know as Ethiopia now wasn't the country or area that the Bible and pre-4th century AD talks about.

Nubians and Cushite ppl in Ancient north Sudan were the proper Ethiopians not the present day so called Ethiopians.

Ethiopia is a Greek word which means "burnt face or black".

After King Ezana of Axumite destroyed the Kush civilization of Sudan in the 4th century AD, he adopted the name "Ethiopia" for his kingdom. From that time on, the present day northern Ethiopia started to be exchangeably known as:-
- Ethiopia or
- Habesha/Abesha or
- Abysinnia (Latinized from of Abesha)

Coming to your question, the present day Ethiopia had nothing to do with King Solomon of Israel or Queen of Sheba. It's a myth. So, this also means the connection between King Solomon vast stashes of gold and the know Ethiopia is a myth too.
The then Ethiopia of ancient times may have connections with them, but I believe it's a myth too if ppl believe they have.
Truly, one shouldn't believe everything he/she reads on the internet. Thanks for explaining............

It's on Wiki that Ethiopia is the only country in the world to have 13 months in a year and the New Year is celebrated in September, meaning the country is YEARS behind other countries. So, what year are you in Ethiopia and is there an explanation for why time is counted on the opposite side of the clock?

Mille:

Hello,

I have no problem with you dating/marrying an educated fellow as yourself. I also appreciate having
someone with the same or higher intellectual ability than myself.

I have to reiterate my position. Everyone has dating preferences, a profile who they feel is good for them. I have no issues whatsoever with preferences regardless of how high or how low it is.

My word is that a lot of Nigerian women throw away their preferences whenever there is financial security. All it takes is for a successful man to show interest.
I know this is an online forum where you are at liberty to quote anyone either to be their sounding board or refute their assertion but you don't have to pass on your message by debasing other people's personal opinions. It is my entitled opinion, not a 'story, story'.

That said,
I have no problem whatsoever with your 'words'. it's yours to use whenever and however you like.

How true is the story that Ethiopia is the home to King Solomon's vast stashes of gold?
