nolio: We b 3time champions of dis comptetn but non of d boys eva play 4 madrid, barca, man u,arsenal, chelsea, inter,AC not even celta vigo and u tink say na ordinary. If dese boys are dere tru age, y dont we maintain dem like dis up to super eagles? Luk @ argentina team 2dy,its made up of dat U-17 team from holland 2005 wit d likes of messi, zabaleta, and mascherano in it. Sharawy and neymar are from U-17 2009 for italy and brazil. But pls tel me if u wuld see any of dese boys in super eagles in d nxt 4yr cum 2017. Does it mean dey retire imedi8ly afta U-17?So, this argument is still raging. Guy, you only mentioned 3 players from the Argentine U-20 of 2005. I can counter your argument by naming more Nigerians from that tournament who have played/are playing for the Eagles. Taye Taiwo, Elderson Echiejile, Efe Ambrose, Chinedu Obasi, Mikel Obi, late Olufemi Adebayo, Onyekachi Apam and Sani Keita. Now these Argentines were also part of the team that won that tourney, Gustavo Cabral, Julio Barroso, Lucas Biglia, Pablo Vitti, Patricio Pérez, Emiliano Armenteros, Gabriel Paletta, Nereo Champagne, David Abraham, Rodrigo Archubi, Neri Cardozo, Gustavo Oberman, Lautaro Formica. That is more than half of the winning team. How many of them do you know? How many of them can boast of having more than 10 caps for Argentina at senior level? Some of you fail to realize that U-17 and U-20 championships occur every two years. That means a pool of at least 42 youth players are thrown up every two years. That is 84 by the time the senior World Cup comes up. Can they all graduate to senior level? The answer is a big NO! The present first 11 of Nigeria has at least 7 former youth internationals (Ambrose, Omeruo, Echiejile, Mikel, Onazi, Musa, Ideye) from different generations. Go back and look at the Super Eagles over the years, it is the same trend. Our squad to the last World Cup in SA had at least 11 former youth players. Even world champions Spain have players from different generations in it and not just one set. |
It's really sad how we are quick to cast aspersions on people's age in this country. That's how some folks were questioning the age of a recent beauty queen (MBGN 2012, I think) and I had to ask, "what exactly should a 17 or an 18 year old girl look like?" Flat-chested and straight as an arrow? Give most 15 year old's a weave for their head, a pair of jeans and a body-hugging top and tell me you won't think they are 21. Na wa for una o! i think we need to all come and post our pictures at 17 on this forum. |
If they are really the youngest, we'll know in six years time. How many of them would have reached higher heights in six years? How come we ae record winners at u-17 level and we can't make a blip at world cup level? The simple answer is that at the u-17 level, we do serious age cheating and get advantage that way. I know 17 year old Nigerians. I know how they look. Those 'eaglets' can't tell me that I am six years older than them.
Name 11 of the Spanairds who played against us in Korea 2007, who are presently regulars in their senior World Cup team today. Also name 11 from the Italian, England and Brazilian squad who are regulars in the senior team 6 years later. Truth is only a handful ever become household names. Most of them just fade away into their home leagues. Sadly our own league is substandard, so we only measure success by playing in big teams in Europe. We also have former U-17's playing in the local league. |
nolio: Dem cary dwarf, baby-faced boys dey deceive una. If i shave u see me dey play ball,u go tink say i be U-15. Ask urselves, na so u take sabi play bal wen u b 17s? Abi u fit shoot leather 4rm 30yrds wen were 17yrsDid you pursue a professional football career when you were 17? Or you want to compare you Sunday-Sunday football with that of people who eat and breathe football. Think about it logically, Africans are know to be usually more athletic and stronger than Caucasians (oyinbo), yet you find it hard to believe an African lad can shoot a leather ball, but will believe that Rooney, Owen, Messi and the likes can at 17? Next you'll be telling me that an oyinbo 17 year would have beaten you in a fight abi? |
ighoosagie: make coach Ali Doustimehr apologize for his comment. What on earth is this one saying? Did you play football in Secondary School at all? I'm guessing you didn't have a school field talk less of play football. I knew boys who played football for my school team at age 15-17 who had biceps that would amaze you. Or is only oyinbo that can play top flight football at 17? Maybe you should visit schools in your neighbourhood to see well-built teenagers instead of just assuming. |
IK doesn't want to buy me new Naija jersey but hre bought nice 1 for himself ,until I get my green white green jersey I will port back 2 9ja for now I dey support iraq sweden iran etc
Ah, IK dey fall my hand.
is my favourite teams nau Y u no call me when match start Iran score the 4 goals abi
Nadia baby, wot happin? I noticed you have been pitching your tent with the opposition. IK don vex you? Abi he dump you? :-O |
I've seen enough. I dey go house. Nobody will pay me for this overtime wey I dey do for office. Wey my BRT ticket sef? ![]() |
Choi, see the look on the Iranian keeper's face! Bet he's like 'gosh how do I go home after this?" They'll probably send him to bomb training school after this. At least he can make himself useful at something else. |
toluxe0075: Who b all dis pple wey dey argue on top age, una don see brazil old men wey dey call demself under 17, if u see their beards and height..our boys stil small jareEh, don't blame them. It is because of this erroneous believe that oyinbo can't lie about age because they have records. Dem never hear of CTRL+Z. Oyinbo that can give you a whole new identity? Yimu!!! |
Yahaya, Okon and Iheanacho are under 18; so is my grand-father and his uncle!
You post your pictures when you were 16/17 and let's judge if you looked like Macauley Caulkens in it. |
chidyhels: Continuity ! Thats all i want.Because we do not have a good league to start with. Other European and even South American youth players will go back to their home leagues and clubs and develop over time through structured developmental programs. They will continue to grow in the Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga and so on. Our own players will end up in the back leagues of Malaysia,Norway, Malta, Cyprus and will eventually wilt away. Although in truth, only a handful of U-17's ever make it all the way to the senior national teams of most nations. |
adegwurulez: "winners take earth crew" are currently watching this match... Adegwurulez reporting live from uaeYeah right!!! ![]() |
fergiiosugo: Am really worried dat all our boys can do is score! Dy re nt strong in defending and nt too smart in d midfield! If they meet brazil dy wud have a big problem handling dem!Maybe so, but that is basic speculation. Brazil struggled against Russia yesterday. The scoreline was flattering. Don't let it deceive you. Besides, as it was with Brazil of old, if you can score more goals than your opponent, then it's all good. ![]() |

tensor777: Now look here Boss Man when the story first broke in the media there was all manner of gruesome photographs of lacerated bodies and neighbours' harrowing stories of the convicted woman's systematic cruelty towards her 2 houseboys. IT WAS ALL OVER THE MEDIA! So I don't know why Justice Okunnu did not consider this prima facie evidence to cage the Chiamaka lady for lifeNow, now Tensor777, you do know that a Judge will not base his judgement on what was splashed on the pages of newspapers, but on evidence that was tendered in court. Now, you are also speculating that these pictures were tendered as evidence. Truth is I would have preferred a murder conviction too, but that's not what the lady got. |
tensor777: Again you are just speculating. Do you know the nature of the evidence that was put before Justice Okunnu? Presumably for the woman to have been charged with murder the prosecutor must have had sufficient circumstantial evidence. There does not have to be intent to kill to secure conviction in a homicide case.Of course we are all just speculating and trying to analyze or postulate why a murder charge couldn't stick. We were not at the scene of the incident, neither were we in the courtroom to listen to the arguments of both parties. However, the judge did pronounce that there was not enough evidence to proclaim a guilty verdict for murder. All we are doing is trying to determine why murder didn't stick, the same way we would analyse a football match even though we weren't at the players training or in their locker room. And while I agree that there doesn't have to be intent to kill to secure a conviction in a homicide case, you have to agree that a motive or premeditated intent would help to get a sure conviction. Otherwise, the defense can get a more lenient judgement like manslaughter in this case. |
My first thought was "just 10 years?" But when you think about it, manslaughter may just have been the best the prosecution could have done, especially when you consider that we do not really have the capacity to prove what went down or that there was intent to kill. we don't have forensics that could help to recreate the events of the crime scene. Even the autopsy might work in the defendants favour if it show that it was one deadly blow to a vital organ i.e the head that killed the boy and not a prolonged session of flogging. I strongly believe that we must enforce the child labour laws in this country. If you need a maid, employ someone above 18. if you are too scared or too insecure to employ an adult then quit your job and cater to your own home. And I'm not just referring to wives. That said, I bet the when this couple were taking their wedding vows, they never considered 'till jail do us part" RIP young, unfortunate lad. |
denniece1: FT jordan 1:0 NigeriaI doubt that this game will have any bearing on our FIFA ranking. It's a B-grade friendly played on a day that is not even a FIFA recognized match day. But even if it does, we've already had the final WC qualifier draws and we were seeded. |
Is this how this team is going to play at the CHAN tourney in South Africa? Ordinary Jordan they can't beat. But wait o, Jordan made the Asian World Cup playoffs o! They will be facing Uruguay for a place at the World Cup. Hhm, maybe they are not so ordinary... |
Is this referee smoking weed. That Jordanian player didn't even control that ball and he is blowing for a penalty? |
Choi, match don start o. See dulling. |
eaglechild: What is was wrong with the scores?Don't mind the bad belle mods. We know what the scoreline is. If dem like make dem no change am. |
Wow, that was a bit of a let-off. A decent fight back. Hopefully we can pick up our season from here on. There's still a lot to be done. We stay United. |
The sad truth is that in the last 3-4 years we have had an average team with no depth being coached by a great manager. Now that same team is being coached by an average coach. It may take a while for the team to find a new rhythm. We are down, not out. |
