revolt: I refused to talk on this issue cos I've long realised nigerian masses are lousy and hve a pkobia for researchn b4 taking action! They act more on hearsays! And passionately stick to their stupidity! Everybody thts been accusing the senate of *child marriage act* (only Gods knws how they invented thtis as ediotic as the almajiri esp if ure a graduate! Fools all oer nairaland!! No wonder they protested the subsidy removal )The very same stance I took. I think the only person I tried to educate was a friend who called my attention to the Stella Damasus video. As for the facebook, twitter and nairaland ragtag..., or is it hashtag army? I just let them be. They tried sha. At least they all came together to "fight" for a cause, even if in error. Hopefully, we can apply the same energy to fight other social ills in our society. |
Thankfully some people are hyping their own royal family for all to hear. Well done BiafranQueen for doing just that. Some people are busy bashing the British monarchs for packaging themselves so well as a global brand even in the face of all the scandals they've faced. If you don't celebrate your own, the world won't celebrate them for you. Abeg, when will the next heir in line to the Igwe's throne be born so I can call CNN to come and cover it. Biafranqueen make sure news stations in California know that your Igwe is in town o! Celebrate your own. |
sainty2k3: Its just a means of passively giving support to child marriage. It has nothing to do with voting o! Hian! As a matter of fact Yerima's Egyptian child bride should renounce her Nigerian citizenship acquired by marriage and file for divorce since she is of "age" as far as citizenship is concerned if you ask me. |
What's the rant about what we know already ? Before they came, the ibos had their egalitarian system of government, the yorubas had their semi-centralized system with the Alafin as the monarch and the OYO mesi serving as the parliament while the huasa/fulanis also have their own centralized system which the Brits crumbled and imposed alien sytem of government on us. Why do you think they are mobilizing for war in the Arab world simply because they refuse to accept democracy ? The simple truth is that Nigeria is now stucked with their invention and I don't know how it will free herself from it considering the globalization of world economy which the developed world are using to reap poor resource-rich states of their resources !
Bro, are we the only ones the British colonized? So, they destroyed our old systems and introduced new ones. Is that why we are in the mess we are now? Did the Americans not fashion out a system that works for them after the British left? Nigeria is not stuck with their invention, Nigeria is stuck with the warped, selfish, corrupt version of their invention mashed with an American system of government. The British are not our problem. We are our own enemies. |
I don't know what some folks here are going on about, that the Queen is an absolute monarch and blah, blah, blah. Does their style of government work for them? That's all I want to know. They have a parliament with certain powers. The monarchy has it's own powers. Everyone knows where they stand. Period. Who says democracy is the absolute best form of government anyway? Oh, that's what "they told us" to quote @50Calibre. But we've seen many democracies that have failed woefully. Don't even get me started on Nigeria. Someone even came and said they razed Benin Kingdom and so on. Hello, we were doing that to ourselves long before the British showed up. Leading expeditions, sacking kingdoms and claiming territories was the order of the day back then even in Africa. The British only came with greater might, nothing more. As far as I'm concerned, that was just a phase in the political evolution of man. Truth is the British monarchy is a part of their history and they are proud of it irrespective of what we all think. When will we build institutions that we can be proud of? Since the British left in 1960 we have tried their style of government and failed. The military governments all failed. Even our attempts at democracy have been a farce. Will we still continue to blame the British for that like whining sissies or are we going to get our act together so that we can also have institutions to celebrate? |
Gonzalò Higuain's supposed move to Arsenal has been in the news just as long as the birth of this baby, yet I don't see you lot complaining. And yes, even that doesn't affect the price of g*rri. |
Mayany: 9ja and Tatafo how does d new baby solve our problems? mtchewww Can we ever celebrate our own for onceAnd that bro is the difference between us and them. They have built institutions they can be proud of and celebrate. From the royal family, to the parliament, judiciary and something as mundane as their football league which we all follow very much like they've followed the birth of this baby, their institutions are properly structured. Can we say the same for Naija? |
which church ...those pastors r thieves
So is your boss, but you still go to work. So is the petrol attendant, but you still buy fuel. So is Iya Risi who owns the mama put, but you still buy food. |
why are peeps fussing here anyway. its at best a friendly. shouldn't we find out if we have suitable cover, if God forbid, Enyeama cops an injury? |
idnoble135: that statement is too broad. Definitely, there would be keepers who have saved shots that were better than Forlan's.Thank you my brother. We've seen keepers save such strikes. Even Enyeama saved a Beckham strike to global acclaim in 2002. While not blaming Enyeama, I think he could have narrowed down the angle with better positioning. |
One word ke? Nooooo o, let me share the story of the slap I will never forget. It was during one of the anti-Babangida riots in 1988. Due to the chaos in town, our school closed down around noon and all the student where asked to go home. Me? I decided to play soccer on the school field with some friends. Suddenly from the corner of my eyes I saw my dad's car rolling down the road from afar. Immediately I took off in the opposite direction and circled round the school, cleaning sweat off my face and arms as I set off in the general direction of his office which was not so far from school in the belief that he didn't spot me.And then my dad's car pulls up beside me as I strolled down the road. As I opened my mouth to say "good...", GBOOOSAAA! A hot slap landed on my cheeks. Suffice to say, by the time we got into town and I saw the chaos and all the rioting and tear gas fumes in the air, and watched as my dad weaved through side streets just to ensure we got home safely, I understood where the slap came from..., from a very worried father who loves his son and was concerned about his safety. ![]() But that slap ehen..., choi! |
COMPAQ: Which comes first? The chicken or the Egg?? I think it's a function of Govt Policy. If govt policy is to build these facilities with tax payers money then they can build before increasing (which unfortunately won't happen, given govt's track record with project delivery). However, if govt policy is for the private sector to build the facilities, then the tariffs will have to go up first, because no investor will come and build power plants if the current tariff doesn't guarantee a return.I don't quite agree with your assessment. The increment is not on what we use but a fixed service charge just for owning a prepaid meter, whether we have power or not. I and my family spend less than 12 hours at home as we go off to work and school, so even if there was 24hours electricity, I would know how to manage my consumption and work within my budget just like I do with my telephone credit, cable TV subscription and other expenses. Charging Nigerians for a service they don't even enjoy is nothing short of extortion. |
What kind of boring thread is this? 6 pages of talk and not one eye-boggling picture of the 'beaurifful' Rita Dominic? What is 'strong' with all of you? Oya make una take feed eye small.
|
emorse: How many goals has Suarez scored in the South American qualifiers? Where were you when Neymar was lamenting about being booed? You don't think he was being booed cos of "bad belle" do you?Dude, give this argument up already. How many goals did Osaze or Martins score during the AFCON qualifiers? How many goals did they even score in their clubs last season? Cavani and Suarez are being courted by top clubs, Neymar just signed for Barca. Martins? Couldn't even cut it at Levante. Now in the MLS in the US. Osaze? Recently demoted to go and train with the reserves. So, on what merit should they have been invited? |
And this thread is still on. Hhm, like someone here said, I think we need to put a reign on our expectations so we don't end up feeling too disappointed. We were in no way favourites to win the Confeds Cup, (except maybe in the eyes of overtly optimistic Nigerians). We at most had an outside chance to qualify from our group. So, maybe the coach knowing that this tournament wasn't the target decided to use it to focus on getting experience for players he feels may have potentials in his team. Would the inclusion of players like Haruna, the Uche brothers, Martins, Osaze and co have won us the trophy? I strongly doubt it based on their previous performances when they formed the bulk of the team. The best they would have got is probably this same result. The World Cup 2010 is still fresh in my mind. First round exit against teams like South Korea and Greece. I would rather thank God that for once in a very long time I watched the Eagles plays without feeling extremely annoyed and irritated at their slow pace and lack of attacking drive and passion. Keshi's team has played football that showed promise. Before the famous class of '94 was perfected, we saw players like, Edema Fuludu, Isaac Semitoje, Precious Monye, Friday Ekpo, Nduka Ugbade, Reuben Agboola, Ene Okon, Dotun Alatishe, Friday Elaho, Jonathan Akpoborie play their part in qualify us for the World Cup. Some of you won't even know these names. Westerhof's team to Algiers 90 had only 3 foreign based players, by Senegal 92 they had increased to 13 and by Tunisia 94 they had become 17. The chaff had been removed from the wheat. Let's let Keshi be. After all, only he will be sacked if he fails. |
great7: THE DUTCH ASSISTANT TO SIASIA, KALIKA MENTIONED EARLIER THAT PLAYERS IN OTHER PART OF THE WORLD ALWAYS PROVE THEMSELVES AT CLUB LEVEL AS BEEN GOOD ENOUGH TO MERIT NATIONAL TEAM SELECTION BUT THE REVERSE IS THE CASE IN NIGERIA.All these folks you have mentioned have had their chances over the years and delivered nothing. Maybe the Uche brothers, but Haruna, Apam and Obasi? Please! They were at the last World Cup and that was our worst World Cup performance. Your Lukman Haruna captained Nigeria to win the same U17 tournament that had the likes of Bayern's Toni Kroos, Man Utd's Danny Welbeck, De Gea, Rafael and Fabio, Chelsea's Eden Hazard, Villa's Benteke, even Victor Moses played for England. Now mirror his career since then against these other guys. The boy needs to up his game before he can lay claim to being an Eagles regular. Is this not the same Lukman Nairalanders flogged tirelessly here: https://www.nairaland.com/460127/lukman-haruna-vs-mikel-obi/3 |
Well, they spent nine months in the same womb, so maybe this is a normal thing with them. They look cute though. |
thegoodjoehunt: Let me paint a clearer picture. Martins was worse than Sambo in the qualifiers against Kenya. Ike Uche was worse than Sambo at the AFCON. So why should Coach Keshi waste his time on them. Please Coach Keshi has gotten Mikel, Musa, Echiejile, Omeruo, Oboabona and Mba playing as top professionals. Give him time and he will turn Sambo into a World class hitman Nigeria craves.Just wondering? Was Gambo's miss worse than Yakubu's at the World Cup? Was it worse than the famous Kanu Nwankwo miss at Arsenal? Was it worse than Osaze's double miss against Guinea in the Afcon 2012 qualifiers? So, because he is home-based now it's an issue. How soon Nigerians forget. SMH. Maybe peeps need to check out these horrific misses before they crucify Gambo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMZiNQcEang |
I think what Oliseh and a lot of my countrymen fail to realize is that the quality of our so-called foreign based pros has also fallen, and it is still due to the poor quality of our league(which for me is the only real point Oliseh made). How good are the players we have exported to Europe in the last 10 years? How consistent have they been? Even in Africa our players have failed to win the African Footballer of the Year. Many times they even failed to make the final 3. We can cry all we want that is is Hayatou that is scheming us out, but the same Hayatou was there when Yekini, Amunike, Ikpeba and Kanu won the award. We are not producing quality players any more period. Let's stop over-hyping our average players. These are the top 15 teams according to http://www.clubworldranking.com/ 1. Bayern München 2. Barcelona 3. Real Madrid 4. Chelsea 5. Atlético Madrid 6. Manchester United 7. Borussia Dortmund 8. Benfica 9. Juventus 10. Málaga 11. PSG 12. Arsenal 13. Valencia 14. Tottenham Hotspur 15. Grêmio Only two Nigerians play for any of these clubs - Mikel and Moses (Chelsea). Another list of rankings include Milan, PSG, Porto, Ajax, Shaktar Donetsk and Udinese; all clubs that have had no Nigerian player shining there that I can remember in the last 5 years. Compare this to the 90's and early 2000's when we had the likes of Amunike(Barcelona & Porto), Oliseh(Ajax & Dortmund), Babayaro(Chelsea), Okocha(PSG), Kanu(Inter & Arsenal), Taribo(Milan & Inter), Aghahowa(Shaktar), Obodo(Udinese) For over a decade now we have been looking for the next Yekini, Oliseh, Okocha etc without success. Many have shown promise only to fade away after the initial gra gra. The team that played at the Confed was largely foreign based, not homebased. Keshi has tried so far with the quality of players he has used. Give him some credit. |
ifyude: Op you were seeking advice last year whether to allow your wife who is a nurse to take a new job as a nurse in an offshore company, you wanted to give her belle before she can take up the appointment are you high on something or you just open thread any howAha, babes na wa for you o! Post of since last year? Are you a "monitoring spirit?" ![]() |
Guy buy the Range Rover, marriage will be chasing you up and down till you are hooked by fire by force by one over-eligible chic. I can't guarantee she will be an angel like the one you have now sha o! ![]() |
Mukina, you no go see this thread now o! Oya frontpage things. 79-0! Say what? |
adconline: Is it poll or pole? Headline is a bit confusing. It is pole my brother. the OP is correct. This English language sef get too much wahala. |
collynzo2: Can you name the 'best' he missed out and their achievements?Thank you o! Help me ask them. Besides for every match we played at the Confed Cup we had probably 2 or 3 home-based players in the starting line up (usually Oboabona and Mba), so I doubt if they were the problem. The rest off the regulars are foreign based (Enyeama, Ambrose, Echejile, Omeruo, Mikel, Ogude, Musa, Ideye, Oduamadi) These best people keep saying Keshi didn't invite have only brought us heartache in the past. Many of them play in largely unfancied leagues like Turkey (Yobo, Eneramo, Kalu Uche etc), MLS in the US (Martins & Dike) and of course the controversial Twit-king Osaze. These are just about the same guys that failed to beat little South Korea and Greece at the last World Cup in SA, and we believe they can make a difference against World Champions Spain and South American champions Uruguay? I laugh in Ibibio. |
pro01: In fact, I can work for free as a political/electoral strategy consultant for the PDP in Lagos, and I guarantee that if my blueprint is followed, the party would record a landslide victory at the polls. You need to interact with common people all over Lagos surburbs (the same people who would vote on election day) to understand just how unpopular Fashola and his gang of elitist thieves in the ACN have become in the state. If the PDP fails to win Lagos in 2015, the party should be disbanded.Thank you! Now you are talking. 2015 is just around the corner. If you start now, maybe you can achieve that for the PDP. That is better than having high blood pressure over who ACN imposes. Let's make an effort to practice democracy for once and not just leave everything to politicians. |
Eh, just one question for the pro and anti "Tinubu' imposition, proposition, supposition blah, blah, blah proponents. Is it that we don't believe in the power of our votes? If you don't like Tinubu's candidate or PDP's candidate, then can't you vote for someone else? Maybe even campaign and mobilize vigorously for the candidate you feel is ideal? Yes, I know our democracy is still evolving and INEC can still be manipulated (if we allow it), but that doesn't stop anyone from exercising their right to vote for whom they choose. Besides, what stops card-carrying members of the ACN from protesting such imposition? Or are they all robots? Besides, if they are not complaining and are gullible enough to follow everything their national leader Tinubu says without dissenting, why should I be swallowing panadol for their headache. I will simply refuse to vote for an undemocratically (s)elected candidate if I'm so inclined. Let us as citizens too start thinking and acting like people who understand what it means to operate a democracy. We may not see the change we want now, but we can play our part in getting there. Cast a protest vote if you don't like ACN or PDP. Who says one party will automatically win Lagos? |
Lordave: If you watch EPL on DSTV you'd know about this Stanbic IBTC advert. One guy like that going to work, on his way stopped and started dancing at the main road, he finished dancing and made his way to the bank.As in..., that advert is so annoying! |
I can't stop reading your thoughtful contribution over and over again! It is an urgent call. Guinness book of record on tooth-brushing is certainly not what we need now. Corruption is our bane! And we have cried for so long How do we identify the 'snakes in suits' in our public and private organizations and kick them out of positions of trust? Imagine what would have changed if these thousands of pupils had gathered to protest corruption and the ungodly looting spree going on in our land.
So it is these minors that should gather to protest corruption that you their fathers and mothers, uncles and aunts have been too cowardly to fight abi? Adults are busy entrenching corruption in our country across every sector and you are asking kids to gather and protest when you should be thinking about what kind of legacy we want to pass on to them. At least someone is teaching them to take their dental hygiene serious. What have you been teaching the ones around you? |
Yomieluv: When other nations are breaking new ground in technology, and attaining new height in innovation.we are busy displaying our stupidityy with one useless attempt. Last time we broke a record on dancing with that stuppid girl called Kaffy, when are we gonna be industrialized for God sake? What's stopping you from leading the charge? I bet you are older than Zuckerburg, yet you are here calling someone who has set a record in her field 'stupid' |
Dis Guy: Yes I actually doOh, by all means give it a try. Stand in front of a bank and start to pelt the security detail and bank staff with large stones, then come back and tell us what happened. |

Dis Guy: Lord have mercy!!!Do you find the bolded to be an impossible scenario? Was it not in this country that four boys were lynched simply because someone labelled them thieves? Is it not in this country that students abducted their VC and put him in a metal drum? Is lynching and jungle justice unheard of in this country? |
