@fnk If you go to a market and take a mirror and bend down and look at the lets of the people walking around in the market, you will notice that some of them are ghost, their legs doesn't touch the ground. But if they discover you, they will try to hit the mirror off your hand and if they do and the mirror touch ground, you will die. I thought of trying it out at Oshodi market, but fear no allow me. There is this one too, back in those days in "Ilu Oke" there is the belief that if you visit a blacksmith place collect a little of the water he uses to cool the red hot irons, use the water to wash your face you will start seeing strange creatures like somebody that has only one big eye on its fore head, beings walking with their backs, beings having only one leg etc. That they will know that you see them as you will be too scared and at the end of the day they will turn you to a blind person. Fear too never made me to try it o. |
@niddamugu Thank God the true ladies are speaking out. In the east, where i married from, the dowry was less than 1k but the "handout" attached was about 6 pages that i had to carry-over some items. Your post is the "baddest" funniest I mean, and true. You got me laughing on my bed until my iPad2 almost fell down on a hard tiled surface. But sha have you balanced the carry overs? ![]() |
So Ciroma and his co-travelers Hausa/Fulani "born to rule" are yet to come to terms that it is going to take way long before they smell Aso Rock again. |
Its like Samsung phones generally have battery problems. I bought a Samsung galaxy Ace GT-S5830 some two months back, though the phone is good, but the battery life is awful, i hardly use it for browsing anymore, i now depend more on my ipad2 for that. I hate a phone i have to charge every nite and that is why Nokia phones are the king. |
Hellos folks I rushed to buy an IPad 2 say one month and a half ago, even though I am not a computer expert I wanted something portable to be able to do my normal browsing on the go or if our office Internet connection goes off. But since I bought it I discovered that IPad has a lot of limitations, as some people call it it is a crap. I would have bought the Samsung Tab, but the unfortunate thing is that the day I went to computer village to buy it, unfortunately most of the attendants in most of the shops knew very little about the devices, hence I bought what I saw others were buying at Slot that day. In light of the above I have read some posts recommending the ASUS Transformer and the qualities it has, hence I am ready to do away with the IPad 2 and buy the other one. I know selling used goods can be problematic as people will grossly under price it, I will pass it to my son who has been eyeing it from day one. So much for the story so anyone who can proffer answer to my question can post the answers to oscar574life@hotmail.com I shall be glad you did |
Why not? If Pa Gabriel Okara's The Voice was accepted why not plain pidgin. His style of English in that book is even harder than Pidgin. |
It is bad enough, but if it was the other guy that started it you want him to run away 100mtrs and use his phone to call for reinforcement? Do not get deceived, it could happen anywhere else in the world. The difference is that if it were in America two or more hefty officers will be on him and by the time they finish with him they will handcuff and take him away if you doubt this please watch Fox entertainment channel on either Startimes or Hitv if its still on. A nation gets the kind of uniform personnel it deserves, I am sure the other guy dare not try fighting any of the armed forces personnel or mobile policeman like that. |
It is not a bad idea at all. Nigerians are free to criticize it if they want that is the essence of the modelling by the IGP. and for those that care to know the IGP is living to his image as a modern day IGP, this is the internationally accepted operational uniform for Police just as the sky blue shirt over black or navy blue trousers is the recommended office wear by International Police Organization and above all i can boldly say here that this same uniform is worn by Formed Police forces of Nepal, Jordan and some others. Above all Nigeria Police is one of the few Police Forces that do not have operational uniforms. Please can somebody tell me how this is going to cause friction between the Army and NPF? |
, So that they can defend themselves against UTC axe and juju (balubalu) bearing NURTW thugs abi? these NYSC guys in Oyo state are not serious at all, I dey laugh!!! |
Posted by: ogugua88 That doesn't make them non-Nigerians. Is Sade not using her Nigerian name as her stage name? All of Seal's children have Yoruba names. What else do you want? They have to sing "Eye Adaba" as well to be considered 100% Nigerians too? Lol, they sing in a genre they love. No shame there. If we don't claim them as Nigerians, then we have given them every right not to associate with their country. Chai. Might as well say Obama is not Kenyan. God bless you for this post, both Seal and Shade have never hidden the fact that they are Nigerians if they are based in England and the USA does not really matter just like when Dr. Alban was making waves in Europe, he never gave the impression that he is not a Naija guy, in fact most of these Naija guys and babes making waves in their different areas of endeavors abroad are even more patriotic and proud of their Nigerian backgrounds more than some Nairalanders who on a daily bases curse and unleash incantations for Nigeria to break up. |
Guys do not trust that guy FFK too much he has a caustic tongue. Do not be surprised he may turn round and deny the speech and even start to abuse the late Ikemba. That guy's mouth is super baaaaaaad you are warned. |
@Idi-Amin Thanks for the timely example you just gave, maybe that will educate Azibalua and his/her likes that it is not every organization where promotion is gotten by sowing ineffectual seeds and payment of tithes. It will take more than just sowing seed and paying tithes to overtake my boss that joined the establishment some cool five years before me and per adventure it happens something is wrong somewhere and such a senior got to go. So my boss is not having the advantage because he sowed any damned seed and if his being the boss is because of the so called seed he too would have gone beyond where he is now the two of us know this and, if it goes easy like that I would have sold all my property to sow my own seed so that I can overtake him ten fold ![]() |
My boss is fond of saying each time he sowed a seed he got something in return. Each time he said it I always kept sealed lips but within me I used to laugh in Esperanto, saying this big man na big maga o. Me I do not sow nada, but God has been blessing me, chike nna |
Probably Asa because her music has some international appeal and above all most of the musicians she uses in her videos are mostly Oyinbos ![]() |
Posted by: Idi-Amin I was invited on Sunday to a church by a cousin. After the watered down sermon, pastor: I want everybody to sow a 'special anointing seed'. I was like 'is there an anointing that is ordinary?' Another one is 'financial breakthrough seed'. My own sister has has been sowing this financial breakthrough seed every month for at least 5 years and she still has no breakthrough, and she has the guts to come ask me for money that she is broke. I just told her no, wait for your breakthrough. I asked her to stop giving away her money to pastor and that its a waste of money and will get her nowhere . But for where !she will start quoting bible: 'do not be weary in well doing for you shall reap in perfect time' Ok then, go wait for your perfect time. Do you guys know of any other 'seeds' and 'offerings'. it seems they just make them up as they go along HA!!! ![]() |
Nice pictures there. Wow that is the Ikemba reincarnate himself there (picture 10). Looks more like the late Ikemba now than when we were together in the 80s. We used to call him Ikemba. He is Sylvester, very quiet, very brilliant, reserved and a good mixer with all tribes within the group. Never grew annoyed with anybody throughout the 18 months we lived together. Above all he speaks impeccable standard Yoruba. If I know him very well, i know he will never be happy reading some of the rubbish some people are writing here on NL claiming to Eulogize his late father. Please accept my condolences jare my main man the Ikemba junior, may you live older than your late father. But that guy crying is he one of Ikemba's children? Abi is it a case of crying more than the bereaved? |
Sorry my guy you are a little late in replying my enquiry, I have since bought an ipad2 wifi/3G 16gb at Slot main shop in Ikeja however, I have kept your web address, you never know I may hit you in the very near future for other products. Better still let me know when you have the new Samsung Galaxy duos, the new smart phone that has two sim slots. I will be interested in it when available, God bless you always. |
@Gbawe I pulled this out of the brilliant lot you wrote: Even in Ghana, as an example, go and see what Yorubas are doing in terms of organised businesses with highs Street presence. God bless you for educating the people deserving it; you might still tell them that Seyi Adebayo of then Arsenal, Onoifade and about four others that played for Togo some time ago are all full blooded Yoruba boys. There are millions of Yoruba business people all over the West Africa sub-region. Go to Ejigbo today (Adebayo's) town there is virtually no street that does not have somebody representing it in either Ivory Coast or Togo. If Yorubas are avoiding some parts of the country they have their reasons for that, and this is definitely not cowardice. I know there are thousands of Yorubas in PH, Calabar, Uyo, Warri, Benin, even Yenogoa, and virtually all over the north. |
Thanks Mr Kunle-A for at least responding to my question like others did, but sha to our dear US based dealers on NL the Yorubas say 'omode gbon agba gbon ni a se da Ile-ife' most of us courtesy of NL auto section we know how to run carfax and we also know what we should avoid. Thanks |
@ BizBooks, Kunle-A and other top Nairalanders based in the US, is there any risk in buying at a dealers auction just like the problematic Insurers' auction. A cousin of mine i called in the US about buying of vehicles told me the difference. |
Dealers are flouting all laid down rules and regulations of the Auto section. Whatever happened to the rule that says VIN numbers should be included in their posts. Or has the rule been stopped officially because that is the order of the day now. |
If true we then have to work on the organisations that will respond to distress calls made to those centres so that Police will not say they have only one patrol van, and it has no fuel. Or fire brigade will not say we do not have water in their fire truck or the ambulance service giving one excuse or the other. It is then we can start shouting uhuru |
If the car is Nigeria used agree on the price with the dealer so that he will not fear that you want to expose the amount he has loaded on the price the owner asked him to sell it, then tell him you want to meet the original owner personally for double confirmation. If fresh tokunbo, run away from Cotonue cleared vehicles since the papers are usually fake, a dealer can fix one even for a stolen car. And again watch out for unbelievably cheap price because at the end of the day if such car is stolen and you are arrested, police will look at how reasonable the price of purchase is and if you pass that one then you may be blamed for not digging the background of the car, you are likely to get free, e.g a dealer wants to sell a very clean Honda EOD for N350K and u rush at it you are on your own. Lastly on dealing with registered dealers, we have to be careful. There was this dealer in Ilorin his modus was to travel to Idi-Iroko town in Ogun state under the guise that he went to bring tokunbo vehicles. meanwhile he was in league with some car snatchers and car thieves in Lagos who call immediately they had "market" he will proceed to Idi Iroko with one or two other drivers who will now drive the vehicles to Ilorin as Tokunbo. He was almost arrested once in Apata Ibadan he escaped and abandoned the other driver and his own girlfriend, but we later heard that he was killed in a robbery operation in Ogun state. So watch out for the dealer you want to deal with. |
Too bad since there is no way of testing if airbags are active, but one young man did test his own airbags in His 2003 (i suppose) Toyota Highlander by ramming it into the back of my Mazda MPV barely two weeks old then. His two front airbags Deployed effectively even though he was on say like 60km/hr funny enough he was with his about 5year old boy. That was the first time I was seeing how an airbag explodes, it was bringing out some white powdery substance, the guy was confused I had to tell him to get the hell out of the car together with his son to avoid being choked before I dragged him to Gowon Estate Police station to report and formalize whatever agreement we reached. The operative word is don't depend on any airbag and start driving like a Formular One driver. |
Well nice one Mr BizBooks, I hope anybody relying on airbags whether in brand new cars or tokunbo and makes unreasonable speed is just risking his life for nothing. As for me the only brand new car among the few ones I have which still has the airbag intact (I believe) I hardly make 120km on it and any occasion I get to that speed level I always remember my family I left back home . So please forget about working airbags or not caution is the right word. My own view pls. |
This EFCC self they like slamming scores of charges on people, at the end of the day nothing comes out of the case. You Hardly hear of one or two count charges and they have both resident and external lawyers. Na wah o |
The prisoners that escaped were not smart particularly those that have few months or weeks to finish their terms. History has shown that in Nigeria most prisoners that escape often get caught and returned to the prison with further punishment for the escape . How NPS does it I don't know, but me thinks the kind of funny uniform they wear give them out and people quickly give them out. And we should not trivialize serious issues I do not think in all my years as an adult I have ever heard that innocent people have been arrested as prison inmates that escaped. |
I wonder every time I hear all these nonsense that a pastor advises against our traditional practices. Maybe our ancestors are angry with us and that is probably why everything is wrong with us these days. I was in South Asia from January 2007 to February 2008 I travelled to some cities particularly Kupang and the world famous Bali otherwise known as Dempassar in Indonesia. Even though Indonesia is predominantly an Islamic country, the people in these two cities still stick to their traditional practices particularly Bali despite the fact that it is an international tourist destination where there are hundreds of huge shopping malls and hotels. We were shocked early in the morning oF the next day we got to Bali, all over the streets were freshly cooked rice with other things served in bowls and put everywhere as sacrifices to their gods or whatever, even at the entrances of those shopping malls. We the Nogerians on transit in the city could not but marvel at their loyalty to their gods. And yet Indonesia is 100 light years ahead of us. Quote me I can say without any fear of contradiction that I do not know of anything, anything at all that is imported into that country. We should continue to stick to our bibles and quarans here and allow some crooks called pastors, GOs and semi-illiterate Islamic clerics to continue to destroy our pasts while Europeans continue to take away our cherished artifacts. It's a pity most of those things are no more available in my family otherwise I would have waited for the day a crook pastor will say God has sent him to burn or destroy it I would have organized boys in my area to give him VIP treatment. |
@speeder So that is how the machine works! Thanks for educating me so it makes the blood pressure to go down if you are telling the truth, but methinks with this information now, millions of Nigerians suffering for chronic high blood pressure will want the machine strapped around their heads 24 hours a day ![]() |
I thought this thread is about February 13th in the History of Nigeria not about Ojukwu or the civil war. Anyways that day was a very sad one for the whole country and particularly those of us living in Ilorin at that time. I was living in Ilorin with my senior bros who worked at the defunct Tate and Lyle Sugar Co. I just left high school the previous year. What made the day saddest was when the then military governor Col Ibrahim Taiwo was abducted from the government house by some of the coup plotters and driven to a spot along Ilorin Offa highway, according to the story we heard on getting to the spot he was asked to pull off his uniform and march into the savannah bush and was shot several times at the back. Late in the afternoon a team of top government officials including state commissioners mobilized and proceeded to look for him. According to the story common to everybody in Ilorin that time was that when the army vehicle pulled over from the main road, the coup plotters did not know that some Fulani cattle herdsmen were looking at them from a distance. The herdsmen became more curious when the man was asked to pull of his uniform, they the Fulanis became more interested and hid themselves from the soldiers until they finished their dastardly mission and buried him in a shallow grave. it was these herdsmen that led the high level search parties to the spot around 6.30pm after a long search, hence the decomposing body was exhumed and transported back to Ilorin. People were very sad and were weeping on the streets when they heard the news about the discovery, because Col Taiwo was loved in Kwara that time as he was seen as an action Governor. May his soul and that of others that died in the 1976 coup continue to rest in peace. LAST LINE I hope our bothers from the East of the Niger on Nairaland will learn a lesson from Europe, the rest of the world and particularly the Jews. If the nations that suffered most from the world wars unleashed on practically the whole world by Adolph Hitler and his so called Aryan race are still thinking the way some people are thinking about the Nigerian civill war, then no country will have anything to do with present day Germany. That i think is food for thought. |
