PoliticsRe: Navy Uncovers Illegal Refineries In Niger-delta (photos, Video) by DaGC(m): 2:24pm On Sep 07, 2015
Atlantian:
You can not steal what naturally belongs to you. I have 14 oil wells at my backyard, and I have no clean water, no land to farm and the roof rust per second. These are caused by the black goal which naturally belongs to me. Yet, I am not allowed to fetch the oil that comes from my land ?

People need to understand that in the marshland, no one drills for the oil, but the oil floats naturally on the muddy waters, so I am not allowed to fetch, cook and filter and sell ? So that I can afford to buy fish and garri which I need to cook and eat.

I do not understand why the North and the West and the East and all other places that are enjoying every natural thing from the soil, have the rights to enjoy their God-given natural soil ingredients, yet I am not allowed to touch mine. If the Federal Government said they spent money to drill the oil. What about the one that floats freely on the mud ? Why is it a crime for a poor man to fetch it, cook it and sell it ?

May the Natural God of our forefathers, punish the Federal Government, who has provided nothing for the Niger Deltans and yet takes away of our natural gifts of resources.

Amen!
I can relate to this post. Especially the part of crude flowing in the marshes. But sadly it is illegal.

I understand your frustration though. I've seen people living near springs make money by fetching, distilling and packaging it into sachet and bottle water. Same goes for gold mining, people even fall trees in their backyards to make or sell firewood, or tapping rubber or palm oil etc. There are many scenarios in Nigeria where Nigerians make their living off natural resources found in their land, but in the case of oil, its illegal.

I've seen crude in all its thickness flowing, but because it is illegal, despite being on your land, you can not fetch it. The most you can get is a settlement from any of the multinational companies or government to get the land off you and make it into a 'legal venture'.
PoliticsRe: Lopsided Appointments: Northern Elders Release List Of Jonathan’s Appointees by DaGC(m): 11:05am On Sep 06, 2015
The only way to fairly pass an opinion on this issue is for any association bringing out appointed lists to bring out the full list of the previous administration and not just sections of it like these people did.

Another poster just posted a list of Northern appointments by the previous administration and its numbers blew the figures of the OP.

If only u had spelt ur thought out this way, you wont leave many attempting to read ur mind, you would have gotten more tailored responses...anyway, I get your point from what u have said evntho I still beg to differ.

What u said below is what I responded to and asked that since we are in a democracy, was there a part of our constitution or laws guiding the recruitment/promotion within such bodies that was flagrantly flouted? This u failed to respond to
>>"And no one should justify the outsider ish by saying IBB and Abacha did it, because those were not democratic governments and should never be the yardstick for measuring this government's policies."<<

We are in desperate times and desperate measures THOUGH NOT POPULAR are needed so far it is within the confines of our laws. And in ds case no law was flouted!

If this is needed to clean that cesspool called NCS, so be it!

I remembr an Adeshina (former agric min) was criticised, I even did, when he strtd bringin "strange" policies in breaking fertilizer monopoly but look at where it landed him! Even PMB endorses him!

In the long run, d gains will cancel out d momentary bad press!
I rest my case
PoliticsRe: Hameed Ali Shows Up At Customs HQ, Wants To Serve As Sole Administrator by DaGC(m): 4:36pm On Sep 04, 2015
shaqhead:
Its not about justifying or not justifyin nada..simple qstion..was there a constitutional provision that flags this appointment of an outsider into the NCS?

If there is you or any other that has a problem with that can simply do d needful.
Well, like many others, you failed to get my point.

Well, what I meant is that in a democratic political scene, sacrifices are made in order to achieve political goals. Enemies make alliances etc. Politicians don't always get their wish in order not to disturb the polity. As it is now, some public workers are already questioning the appointment of a non career person as their head, so, in order not to cause another avenue for criticisms Col Ali shouldn't break more protocols by saying he wont report to a Minister of Finance.

It would have been different in a dictatorship, because nobody would question actions. But in a democracy, the opposition and press will always look for an avenue to criticize, and the President wouldn't want negative public perception of him.

Hopefully, this helps you understand the democratic ish I was talking about.

PoliticsRe: Hameed Ali Shows Up At Customs HQ, Wants To Serve As Sole Administrator by DaGC(m): 7:56am On Sep 04, 2015
There are existing protocols in a democracy. In order to strengthen our nascent democracy, these should be upheld. No need over stretching it to the limit, especially after the debacle of 'an outsider heading the NCS'.

And no one should justify the outsider ish by saying IBB and Abacha did it, because those were not democratic governments and should never be the yardstick for measuring this government's policies.

Goodluck to Col Ali in the discharge of his duties.

I don't like stereotyping any region, because good and bad can be found in all regions, but education in the north is a far cry compared to other regions. Many governments are trying sha, putting incentives to encourage more people to embrace education like scholarships, free books, low cut-off marks, free laptops in some places, feeding etc. A trip around would do you some good or better still ask around.

“It is incontrovertible that within the 16 years of successive PDP administrations, more businesses opened in the country in all sectors of the economy; in telecommunication (with one the world fastest GSM and Internet penetrations), transport, aviation, hospitality, education, agriculture, the media, automobile, real estate, oil and gas, food processing, among others, than in any other period in the nation’s history.
He was correct in the achievements of their 16years reign.
These sectors achieved their highest under their party than in any period in the history of the country.

Hopefully, this new era will take us further and achieve more.
