TayoD, everything is relative. If you were to go back 500 years in time, I think it is safe to assume that you would be appalled by the living standards of the natives. You might even wonder why they drink from lead plates and cups (Lead poisons people and leads to death). Ofcourse, the only reason you would question these practices is because you can compare it to life in the current time.

For instance, I never knew Nigeria was poor till I landed in Armstadam. I never knew I was black till they I first visited London. I never knew that not everyone spoke English till I went to France. Hence, all we know, as people, is in relation to other things. While we might all say the Japanese have an excellent standard of living, since most Japanese don't travel out of their country, they do not know that. Simarly in ways that most Nigerians do not travel out of the country, they do not know that the average Ghanian, Ivorian, or citizen of Benin republic has constant electricity and is ranked as having a higher standards of living than us. Our leaders that continously talk about how blessed our nation is only help to fortify the illusion.

For those who don't know, the communist and socialist and found that by constantly telling their population that they are living in the best country in the world, they are able to keep the people domant and complacent even in countries like North Korea where it is not unusual to see people dozens of dead people that have starved to death from the night before.

logical, The suicide rate is high in Japan because their culture envy those that sacrifice themselves for ideals. In fact, when regional masters were executed/assinated by the state in 17TH century Japan, it was not unusual to have 20+ servants of the dead boss to chase down and kill the executor, and then proceed to commit ritual suicide as a show of loyalty to their dead boss.

I strongly beleive that the key to Nigerian development is for those of us that are overseas to return back home and share the knowledge of how things work elsewhere with our fellow people. It is unrealistic to expect the average Nigerian that knows only that the people of Europe or America are richer than us, to some how take that simple knowledge to create something "good". This is one of the biggest damages that Christianity and Islam are doing to our society. The pastors and Imans promise their follows of sorts of riches (in this world or there after) if they follow these text of the west or the east, and the people loose focus on what really matters. People feel that the west and the east are weatlhy because they have devoted their lives to Jesus or Muhammed, when that is truely no the case. The average Nigerian is 10 tens more religious than the average American, and yet they are a lot more poor. Clearly, religous does not generate wealth. Wealth is generated by producing goods and services that others desire. Producing high quality Traditional statues that people of western decent find interesting. Producing books of our traditional gods and customs that people from other parts of the world find exotic and unusual. Producing a focused, dignified, hard-working labour force that people would spend millions and travel from thousand of miles a way to do business with. That is what makes a wealthy nation. That is what makes a powerful state that all of us can be proud of.

Worship your Jesus and Muhammed all you want, you will still be looked as a mumu if you fail to provide anything tangible.

I agree completely with you, Nwoke. NEPA should raise their fees by at least 500 percent. The problem is that NEPA cannot provide enough electricity and what little they provide is quickly sucked up by the rich people that blast all their air conditioner ( I am guilty of this). The increase charge for electricity to give people incentives to maybe leave the windows open and keep the air conditioner off even when "NEPA has brought light". Also, factories and businesses should get priority when it comes to power supply.

Getting a job and being able to support your self and your family is a lot more important than the discomfort that you will experience from lack of light. But, don't expect the average Nigerian to understand the laws of supply and demand.

They are not over 1 billion muslims today because Muhammed was a really "nice guy". He invaded and killed hundreds of thousands of people to spread the "word of God". It is no different than the way there are over 2 billions christians, because the follows of the "Gods little boy" went on crusades to force non-christians to accept the "love of Christ".

BellaRouge, I changed my list to be something that is a little more realistic. Also, as for the killing of all past head of States, that only applied to Military rulers that took power by force. And as long as they can prove that they did not steal public funds, they would not be executed.

In any other country, to take power by force is an act of treason and that is ALWAYS purnishable by death.

I will run for the Nigerian Presidency only if I thought I could win. Then I would :

1) Imprison and later execute all past heads of States (Except those that can prove that they did not take stolen loot. Basically, they all get to die )

2) Devide Nigeria into three zones (According to the rivers)

3) Relocate most of the Military equipment to the south west zone.

4) Grants soverignty to the Northern (Hausa and Fulani) and to the Eastern Zone (Igbo and other groups east of river Niger).

5) Step down as President and resume the role as iterim president in the south western zone till Parliamentry free and fair elections could be conducted and handing over power to the newly elected government.

6) Restore Lagos back to the temporary Capital (until the New Ife is built to become the new capital)

7) Allow non-western Nigerian ethnics groups that have now taken up residence in the zone to remain as long as they abide by the laws.

Fund public projects that depict the glory of the traditional Yoruba and Benin Gods.

9) Provide free land and other extra government services like constant electricity to foreign and indigenous companies that want to open factories in the States.

10) Sign a non-aggression pact with the Northern Nigerian Soverign state (Hausa and Fulani) and allow them to import goods through the ports in Lagos and other Western Cities with no tarrif or charge.

11) Sign a millitary coillition pact with the Eastern Zones so that the North looses any aspiration of reconquering Nigeria that they might have.

12) Make teaching of Yoruba manditory in all Elemental and middle schools.

13) Provide free Elementary and middle schools and ensure that they teach love for the State, respect for our neigbors and compliance with the rules of the State.

14) Violent crimes like Armed robbery, rape, and unjustified destruction of property should be purnished by Death (after you get to place your argument in court)

15) Sincere effort to increase the power supply of the western region by 500 percent.

16) Loan incentives to encourage people of western Nigerian descent that are over seas to return and use their new found knowledge to develop the infrastructure of the State.

17) Tracing and restoring the honor of the Oni of Ife. (Ceremonial King of the State)

18) Valiant effort in recovering the history of the people in the western independent republic.

Given how terrible the economy, and the security situation is in Nigeria, the question you should be asking is why the youth even have any "love" for God. I blame this on defeatist mentally, but I am sure you good Christo and Muslimi would suger coat it as the working of "God".

I do not worship any. But I realize the importance of the traditional gods in our society and I wish that they are restored to their formal glory. I believe that religion is a part of society and not necessarily a means to immortality or anything silly like that. However, I will gladly worship the traditional Gods if for nothing else to show the Christians and Muslims that they have turned their backs on the gods of our fore-fathers.

The Christians and Muslims use their population to push for policies that affect the State in the negative way. For instance, the Sharia law that is in the North has cost Nigeria millions of jobs. No one in their right mind would invest in a country of Islamofascist that go around implementing babaric laws. Also, the 5 years jail time for those who pratice homosexuality is total uncalled for. I am certain that the Yorubas would be willing to give up the oil in the east of river Niger if it means that they get to free themselves of the failed State called Nigeria. There are plenty of Yorubas and other western groups that are overseas that would come back home and set up companies to ensure that the Odua nation (what ever its called) succeeded. Those Yorubas would not do that now because they have little if any love for Nigeria as a whole.

There would be some oil in the western portion (Yoruba and other groups), but most of the oil would go to the Eastern portion (Igbos and other groups east of the river niger).

For all those Nigerians still in the country, please, for you sake, support the third term agenda. Obasonja has put in place terrific reforms that has Nigeria on the course of making the country great. However, you must realize that it is impossible for the Government or any other government to provide enough jobs for its people.

I assure you Nigerians, that if the state can go for 5 years or more with out any violent riots, you will have so many foreign companies fighting each other to open factories and offices in Nigeria that would create more jobs that you know what do with. But no one is going to open factories in Nigeria if Northern Nigeria is busy implementing Sharia law, or if the Niger Delta people are blowing up cars in the country. Nigerians have to make a valiant effort to make the state attractive to foreign investment. I know it is hard to remain calm when you are with out a job, or when you have a bad job, but your patience will pay off.

Any Nigerian Presidential hopeful that tells you he is going to make everything alright in Nigeria is lieing. All the government can do is clean up the countries international image (basically what OBJ is doing) and hope that the people don't do stupid things (Cartoon riots and car bombing) that would drive away potential companies that are interested in providing jobs for the country.

Lets take for instance China. Everyone here knows that Chinas economy is growing at a very fast pace, but the reason for that growth is because American companies like Nike, Ford, Walmart e.t.c are opening up factories in China because the country is stable and has cheap labor.

The current state of Nigeria is unstable, but the labor is a lot cheaper than it is in China. All we have to do now is stop our Hausa and Fulani "brothers", and the thugs in the Niger Delta from humiliating the entire nation. I know it is hard, but try and reason with these people so they do not hurt the image of our country.

I have said it before, and I will say it again, if the Yorubas or the Igbos were not part of Nigeria, there economy would be a lot stronger than the current Nigerian economy. When I visited Nigeria 2 years ago, I was very suprised to see that a lot of people have now become very religous. Maybe it is the poor economic conditions, or the uncertainty of life in Nigeria that has driven the population to "I love Jesus!" or "Muhammed is true Prophet!", but whatever it was, it made me sad. Never have I seen such a defeatist mentality in my entire life.

It then became clear that the average Nigerians has no idea why they are Christian or Muslim. Ofcourse, those that passed on these beliefs have done an excellent job in hiding their tracks.

Well, the question I am going to answer to you Christian and Muslim Nigerians is why you choose these faiths to practice. I am not going to fill my post with pointless dates, because that is not the point of my post.

A couple hundred years ago, the Muslims Jihadist (Holy religous Warriors) invaded the Hausas and forced them to convert to islam. They then began invading Northern Yoruba territories and forced the Yorubas there to covert to islam. At around this time, the Europeans were forcing the south Yorubas and Igbos to convert to Christianity.

Fast forward a hundred years and you have present day Nigerians. They flock to their churches and Mosque to worship the God/Gods of the Arabs and the Europeans. They sing praises and give what little they have to the corrupt Pastors and Imams in hopes of gaining the gods of the Arabs and the Europeans. They aggressively defend this Gods and even go on bloody rampages over silly cartoons to defend the Gods of the Arabs and Europeans. Ofcourse, when it comes to defending the honor of the citizens by holding government officials (IBB and co) accountible, these "lovers of God" are no where to be found. When it comes to holding local government officials that are not providing pipe born water, these good Muslims and Christians are no where to be found.

How pathetic has our society come to? It is almost impossible to find a Yoruba that worships our gods of old. They have all turned their backs of Orumilla/Oludumare to worship the gods of the Arabs and the Europeans. Enjoy your new found Gods, because by failing to acknowledge the gods of old, you have killed the socieity.

I bet if it was to condemn gay marriage, these people of fucking Jesus and stupid Muhammed would be quick to fight against it, but when it comes to demanding that every child gets proper education so that they do not have to suffer like their parents, they sit down and pray to the gods of the Arabs and Europeans.
