Politics / Re: Sokoto Test Runs Independent Power Project (Pics) by dammycrane000: 6:47pm On Dec 01, 2016
i work in a power plant of 1000mw capacity, it has combustion turbines(gas) and heat recovery generator to a steam turbine.
It cost less than $1 billion.
Power generation is not rocket science. We have tons of natural gas in Nigeria which should be used instead of diesel ( which is not environmental friendly )
Building a 30MW capacity power plant in Nigeria at this time is not advisable in regards to our population and energy needs.
Such capacity of power plant are usually powered by waste ( burning of refuse, waste and also gas from landfills). This way you are cleaning the environment and also generation electricity as a by product.

Nigerian ladies are not independent, they expect you to pay on a date, for movies.
They see the guy as the bread winner. When it's actually a team effort

Science/Technology / Sorry, The Riemann Hypothesis Has Almost Certainly Not Been Solved by dammycrane000: 7:03pm On Nov 17, 2015
Rumors are swirling that Opeyemi Enoch, a professor from the Federal University of Oye Ekiti in Nigeria, has solved the Riemann Hypothesis, a problem that has vexed mathematicians for over 150 years. Too bad it’s not true.

As reported in the BBC, The Telegraph, Yahoo! News, and many other publications, the Nigerian professor is claiming to have solved the problem, thus making him eligible for a $1 million dollar prize. Enoch has yet to make his solution public, so his claim has yet to be verified.

The problem, posited by mathematician Bernard Riemann in 1859, involves the average distribution of prime numbers (a straightforward, relatively non-mathy explanation can be found here). It’s one of seven Millennium Problems in Mathematics, a contest run by the Clay Mathematics Institute (CMI).

Family / Husband 'sues New Wife For Fraud’ After Seeing Her Without Make Up For First Tim by dammycrane000: 11:52am On Aug 07, 2015
A man who saw his new wife for the first time without make up is reportedly SUING her for trauma, after being shocked at her appearance.

The unnamed couple had just got married in Algeria and after spending the night together, the husband woke up to find his wife bare faced.

But rather than admire her natural beauty, instead the man REFUSED to believe the woman was his wife, believing her to be a thief.

Finally realising that this was in fact the woman he loved, the man is now allegedly suing her for fraud and “psychological suffering”.

A source told Emirates 247: “He said he was deceived by her as she used to fill up her face with make up before their marriage.

“He said she looked very beautiful and attractive before marriage, but when he woke up in the morning and found that she had washed the make-up off her face, he was frightened as he thought she was a thief.”

The price of the husband’s “suffering” is £13,000.

Agriculture / The U.S. Doubled Its Farm Production In Just 60 Years. Here's How by dammycrane000: 2:22pm On Aug 01, 2015
Something strange has been going on in farm country in the last sixty years: Farmers are using less labor and less land, but they’re growing more—a lot more. Here’s how they did it.

A new USDA report looks at the curious set of trends that’s been showing up on farms in the U.S. since 1948. While the two traditional backbones of farming—land and time—were steadily dropping, production was rising. So what’s going on? In a word, technology.

Automation isn’t typically what we call it, but that’s precisely what’s been happening on farms over the last 60 years: time and labor were replaced by better farm equipment, pesticides, fertilizers, and new varieties of plants. At the same time, farmers were also moving from being generalists to specialists—and were customizing their farms and equipment to suit the needs of those specific crops.

Travel / Airport Being Designed Just For Animals by dammycrane000: 7:28pm On Jul 22, 2015
Air travelers have long complained that they’re treated like cattle; and now cattle will actually be treated better than most economy passengers. An entire airport terminal is being built for animals, including a dog spa with “pawdicures” and a bone-shaped doggie wading pool. Yes, it’s all very real, and it will be open next year.

The ARK at JFK is the too-cleverly-named animal handling facility that will start booking your animal traveling companions at New York’s JFK Airport in 2016. The first-ever privately owned terminal for animals will be a “USDA-approved, full-service, 24-hour, airport quarantine facility” which will handle the import and export of racehorses, livestock, and zoo animals, as well as your regular old dogs, cats, and other pets.

codebreaker: Can I chip this in.

Someone mention that 90% of canadaians just get their diplomas and end their academic pursuits and start life immediately. As a Nigerian would it not be better to stand out with an Msc instead of dragging diploma job opportunities with other canadians.

For me I am just speaking from what I know for my field. I am a Geophysicist and my job is as technical as anything that has to do with technical or what ever words you guys are throwing around. There is nothing for you with your diploma cos frankly no one would even employ you in a oil exploration team with a diploma.

Another thing is, I think not alot of people actually end up getting that msc they plan to cos after PR people become lazy to go back to school and get it. Please prove me wrong, if you have done post graduate diploma and then done Msc please indicate.

You seem so sure about this, you are not in canada yet... You have not applied for a job yet, you have not attended an interview yet.
But you just know a diploma will not get you a job with an oil exploration team.
Ok

justwise:

College is for FE while university is for HE, college has always been seen a preparatory institution for university hence the discrimination.

In college you have teachers while in university you have lecturers, the value system has always given university graduates a bigger portion of respect than college graduates, whether this is right or wrong is not the argument.

Foreign students choose college for two reasons: cheaper fees and lenient entry requirements, you may be very intelligent with good result but got no money to get admission into top foreign universities, or you have the money but with poor result.

College is the cheap and cheerful option for those set of prospective students.

I disagree
