jt2010: Here are my answer to your questions:
1) What is your marital status, any kids? Single with no kid(s). It is stated in the refusal letter also. 2) What age group do you fall in? (Say a group if you don't feel comfortable to specify your age; ie 25-30) - Am 31 3) What kind of job do you do, and what income level? Information Technology Expert - 200K Stated also on the refusal letter. 4) How long have you been working with your company? 3 years plus 5) How's your savings like, (the balance matters too). about 1.5M and 1.500 thousand USD but have landed and stock assets also. 6) Have you ever travelled outside Nigeria before? No
As per my documents, what i mean by revalidating is that: I can get my office to reschedule my leave period toward december because of the diffcults of getting the visa.
I think Vicjustice has given you a good enough advice. Your best bet seems to be re applying, with a letter addressing the refusal decision
But you also need to show CLEARLY why you want to go to Norway. They mentioned you do not have any Reference in Norway so what are you touring for? You state that you have about N1.8m, how much of this are you expending for this trip?
Be clear on this. The problem may well be that they are not used to having Nigerian tourists who return. I also find it strange a Nigerian will chose Norway over UK, US, Canada, France, Spain and Italy for tourism whereas he does not have any 'reference' in the place. If you had applied to the UK you would have probably qualified for a visa but if I am the Norwegian visa officer I would certainly have serious doubts
Good luck |

Travel › Re: Uk Visa - Visa Appeal Process by dancewith: 7:14pm On Oct 25, 2010 |
Demokrazy: Hi guys,
Apologies in advance for a rather LOOONG first post
After reading a few posts on here,I believe you might be able to offer insight into my current situation (apologies if answers have been provided to this question, I'm just too lazy to go through all of 105 pages)***Just to give a quick background to the situation. I joined my mother in the UK 11 yrs ago and we both hold settlement visas I have a younger sister (23yrs old) but my mother was unable to bring her over here when my application was processed as mum is a single parent and couldn't afford to bring both of us at the same time.
In 2006 (I was still a student and was not financially stable) my mother applied for settlement visa for my sister, however this was declined on the basis that they did not believe my mother would be able to financially take care of both of us on her low-income, and also on the basis that they believed that since my nan resides in Nigeria and my sister lives with her hence she has someone to stay with, We did not appeal this as mum was unable to keep paying the solicitor to go through appeal.
Fast forward to 2010, I already finished Uni 2yrs ago and now working full time, we decided to apply for a visiting Visa ,we decided on visiting rather than Settlement Visa again as the process is faster and my sis is also no longer interested in settling in UK as she now has a 2yrs old son and doesn't want to separate her son from his father for a long stretch of time.
My sister is currently a trainee hairdresser, hoping to learn this vocation so she can run her own Beauty Salon, she pays to learn the trade so she is not employed and she is supported financially by mum and me (her partner is a struggling student, thanks to Nigerian Universities' knack of regular strike actions.)
Anyhoo, she applied with her son in Sept for a visiting Visa, and we got the a refusal letter stating:
1.)You state that you have worked as a trainee hairdresser since 2009 but you failed to declare your income. I am not satisfied that you have provided adequate evidence to substantiate this claim. You have provided no evidence of income or employment in Nigeria in support of your application. I am not satisfied that your circumstance are as claimed.
2.) You have provided little in the way of documentary evidence of your personal and financial circumstances in Nigeria. Full knowledge of your circumstances is an important consideration when assessing your application for a visit visa. In the absence of such evidence you have not satisfied me on the balance of probability, that your circumstance are as claimed , that you are genuinely seeking entry as a visitor for a limited period as stated by you, or that you intend to leave the UK at the end of the period stated by you.
3.) You are a single mother with no evidence of income or employment in Nigeria. You have no evidence of savings in support of your application. I note that you intend to visit your mother and other immediate family in the UK and that you have previously been refused a settlement Visa to join them. Given your current circumstances in Nigeria I am not satisfied that you genuinely intend to visit the UK for the purpose and period stated on this occasion. You appear to have little in the way of personal income or assets in your own country. In light of all the above I consider that you have failed to show sufficiently strong family, social or economic ties to satisfy me, on balance of probabilities that you intend to leave the United Kingdom on completion of a short visit.
So people, my case is this:
On the application we did state that she is a trainee who does not receive income and is wholly supported financially by us. We also obtained letter from the establishment where she is a trainee to attest to this fact, the woman even stated in the letter we got from her stating exactly how much she charged that she can provide copy of the receipt issued when my sister enrolled, In the letter she also expressly granted her leave for the visit as well as indicating the end date for my sister's training which is next year.
However, looking at the letter of refusal, it seems the ECO is simply referring to the same issue in all 3 bullet points and not taking any of the evidence provided into consideration.
I do not understand what asset a 23yrs old can be expected to hold in Nigeria!!We also provided documentary evidence of monthly money transfers to her account for her upkeep, as well as proofs of our bank statements, wage slips, settlement visa etc.
We have the right to appeal, however I just do not understand how else to explain to these people that YES she is a single mother, who is an apprentice and is financially dependent on her mother and sister, Please any helpful and constructive help will be appreciated, God bless I really feel for your sister. However, there were so many reasons it would be difficult to fault the ECO on his decision For one, she was refused a settlement visa few years ago. Now she claimed to want to 'visit' While her intention would be clear to you, immigration officers are trained to refuse clear cases of 'dual intent' (A situation where it can be verified that an applicant wants to migrate and is now seeking a different visa category, especially visit) Canada is usually strict about dual intent whereas US delicately considers various factors before approving the request. The bottom line is that proving dual intent is usually harder and you are more likely to be refused than approved in cases of subsisting dual intent My advice is for her to wait until her economic and social situation in Nigeria improves significantly and then, and only then, should she re apply and must write a letter along, explaining reasons why she is no longer seeking to live permanently in the UK ( as you have detailed above) This is to dissuade the ECO from using the dual intent rule against her again Best of Luck |

@ Erico, no i don't have a child yet. My wife is in her last year of Uni, so we delayed that I am SURE my wife does not get social welfare benefit. I did checked the UKBA website for their list of public funds. She works 25hrs a week presently. I know she gets student loan too (but i did not see that on the list of public funds - do let me know if i am wrong)
@Vicjustice - i am not a member of EEA. so mine would be ILR. and while erico did his at 150K, its currently N164,000.
Also, if my wifes income is not enough, can i provide proof of my own earnings and savings to show proofs of maintenance?
Also, i have an uncompleted property that i am negotiating its sales (deal near happening). I plan to put that in our savings and have proofs that i sold it, would this count?

I am no expert here but my sister went through this kind of stuff : spousal visa when she joined her husband in the UK. She did pay top dollar for it However, she needed to show evidence she can support herself because her hussy was then a student and was working part time. Similar to yours
The point is that if your wife can't show proof of funds and you can, it is allowed. After all, yours is hers and one and the same
I have also learnt when applying for settlement in the UK, the 10 yr ban for fraudulent misrepresentation (in a different visa category) may not apply
Good luck |

Hi Justwise
Great work u are doing here. Thanks
On my brother's application, he is set to apply by Monday. Here are a few issues for your consideration and advice. His offer letter states his tuition is 10,000 pounds but has a 10% discount if he pays the entire fees upfront
He has now paid 9,000 pounds and has the required 7,200 in his a/c for the required time period
His CAS is showing he has paid 9,000 pounds out of the 10,000 leaving a balance of 1,000
Do you think this 1,000 will be an issue considering he is perfectly entitled to the 10% discount, which amounts to the same 1,000? |

We want to visit UK in Dec, will the immigration officers let him enter. we are going for a week You have got nothing to fear at all. 1) The 10 year ban started in 2008 and so does not apply to your hubby. 2) As a spouse and parent of a British citizen, he cannot be deported from the UK as this breaches his right to family life (there are exceptions to this rule but those exceptions does not apply to what your hubby did) 3) If his prints were not taken in 2001, (which I am certain it wasn't as finger printing started in 2008 also) there is a 99% chance they wont even get a match on his previous record, if he is now using a Canadian passport 4) Finally you are worried over nothing. Omo_Tier1: I really need your help! I applied for Tier 1 General Highly Skilled Visas in March 2010 and the application was refused. I realised that the ECO used the new immigration rules to assess my application aganst "previous earnings" and awarded me 5points instead of the 25points which I claimed. He agreed the evidences I submitted where geniue and in line with the rules. He also awarded me 0 Points under "Maintenance Funds", claiming I did not have enough money between certain dates. Meanwhile I have money in the account I submitted covering 3-MONTHS CALENDER DAYS!. He specifically selected a random 3-Months Period ( on the bank statement I submitted for my proof of "previous earnings" before the date I submitted my application and used that to assess me, ignoring all other days that could make up for 3-months with the money in the account above £2,800. To crown it all, He claimed I had overstayed in the UK!
I sent in an administrative review request in May 2010 and last week, 10th of June, I got the decision of the Administrative reviewer. He upturn two of the other decisions but refused my application claiming I did not have enough money in the account for Maintenance funds. When I read the whole comments, I realised that He didnot use the Bank Statements I submitted for "Proof of Maintenance Funds" to assess my me, instead He used the Bank statements I submitted for my proof of "Previous Earnings" - same thing the ECO did!. He did not even mention anything about the Bank statements I submitted for my proof of "Maintenance Funds" which had money in it above £2,800 for 3-months.- STRANGELY, THIS STATEMENT WHICH I SUBMITTED AS PROOF OF MAINTENANCE FUNDS FOR 3-MONTHS WAS RETURNED ALONG WITH MY APPLICATION PACK BY THE BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION ABUJA WHEN THEY RETURNED MY APPLICATION BACK TO ME!
Now I do not know wht to do as I am only entitled to ONE administrative review! Please can someone help me with any useful information as to what other step I can take. I am considering sending a request letter to the British High Commission, Abuja (where my application was considered) to ask them to lunch an investigation into the way my documents and application was handled. I know for sure that I met all the points before I applied and all my documents were complete as the even verified them at their submission centre in Ikeja before they asked me to go and pay for the visa fees! Very sorry to hear this. Quite a sad and distressing thing for you! The best option I can think of is to RE-APPLY When doing that, write a letter, CLEARLY stating how they bungled the previous application. Be polite and very clear. Underline/bold the areas of major errors by the ECO Finally, your life will not start and end in the UK. If they say no, move on NB: What gave rise to the overstaying thing you mentioned but never concluded? |

Medlabgirl: I met a young Nigerian woman today. She came into the NVP (Nausea\Vomiting of Pregnancy) Clinic. When I saw her name on the ticker, I decided to go up myself rather than send someone, and I am glad that I did. She told me the most incredible story. I am writing it here, because I am sure that there must be someone out in NLand who will know if there is something that can be done, and if there is, how to go about it. So here goes,
She is a new Canadian Permanent Resident, pregnant with her first child. Her husband lives in Nigeria. She had applied to go to the UK a few months ago, but her application was denied because she wasn't working. She said she wanted to go visit her sister. She does not work, as she is supported by the husband, who according to her is doing very well. She plans to go to school, but is ill right now. This is all again what she told me. After being denied a UK Visa, she generally forgot about the whole thing, and decided to go home to visit hubby. So she did; and this is where it gets interesting!
She is a new Canadian resident, so she still travels Nigerian i.e with a Naija passport. I understand that as a Canadian resident flying even on a Nigerian passport, that you do not require transit visas. She flew British Airways. The trip to Nigeria was good she said, but on the return trip to Canada, she was caught up in the volcanic ash problem and had to wait in London. Now, BA agreed to provide her hotel accomodation for one night, and had a vehicle waiting to take her to the hotel, but unfortunately the British Immigration refused to let her in at the point of entry. They said that because she had made a prior application to come there, that she had the intention of remaining in the UK. This she denied. She said she lived in Canada, was happy to be there, and had not even planned to leave the transit area on her layover, prior to the flights being cancelled due to the ash situation. She says she was there, really ill and vomitting into her spitty-cup(ladies you probably know what I mean), arguing with them. They refused, handcuffed her, and took her to a detention center, where she was held for 7 days. Sometime in those 7 days, she was taken to the hospital, given an ultrasound to determine if she was truly pregnant, given some meds, she doesn't know what, and sent back to detention. At the end of the 7 days, she was put on a flight to Canada. One of her bags was gone, and of course all the dried fish, egusi, crayfish, stockfish, fried snails etc, were discarded.
This is one of the most incredible things I have ever heard, and I just cannot get over it. She is pretty much ok now, geting along nicely in the pregnancy, she just cannot shake the throw- ups which is why she came in tonight, and I got to meet her.
Now here is my question. IS SOMEONE LIABLE HERE? DOES SHE HAVE ANY RECOURSE? IS THERE ANYTHING SHE CAN DO? Surely no one should be mistreated like this. I thought, wow this is somebody's daughter, sister, wife and soon to be mother (Deo Volere). I would like to help her, as I think it is an outrage. So please, if you know what to do in a case like this, kindly let me know. I will be seeing her soon I think, so I will let her know what you suggest. Thanks for your help. This is a show of barbarism from the British. Too many Nigerians are going through the same or worse things in their hands. Time to start protesting loudly! To start with, send a strongly worded protest letter to the Home Secretary. Explain in details what happened. Specify the flight number, the time of flight, date and the terminal Make your views known. Be harsh! |

moonraker: Good day my dear nairalanders
I hope you are all well,
As we Nigerians do alot of travelling, both for business, pleasure and otherwise,
i thought that its did be necessary to setup a database for information with requirements
for nigerian citizens so that you do not get shocked at the airport etc, There are two ways of doing this,
you can post a trust worthy link or base it on your own experience that happen within 3mths, waiting for all your response,
lets make this a good thread, will get the ball rolling
SINGAPORE: Do not be deceived, Singapore is no longer a visa free country for nigerians. its use to be until we lost the preveilage in November 30th
2008, You will need a sponsor in singapore or a well written letter what you are going to do in singapore with addresses etc, plus hotel booking,
return ticket and other supporting documents, when you get to the immigrations, you will be given a duration to which you can stay and you must
leave singapore within the specified time else, you will be fined big time,
You need an airport transit visa if your leaving from nigeria and your gonna be transitting in the ffg ciuntries without leaving the aiport
1. United Kingdom
2. Germany
3. Itay
4. Kenya (on transit to an asian country)
5. United States (if heading to brazil)
6. France
will update later on
You do not need a airport transit visa for the ffg countries
1. UAE
2. Qatar
