Hey house, just saw this online. Hope you dont mind my sharing it here. Technological Systems Issue JUNE 26, 2015 Visa Systems Issues
All visa-issuing embassies and consulates are now back online. We are scheduling visa interviews and issuing nonimmigrant and immigrant visas.
We issued more than 300,000 nonimmigrant visas this week. Consular staff will work this weekend, to clear our backlog, which we anticipate will be gone by early next week.
We are still experiencing problems with some online immigrant visa application forms. We are working around the clock to correct the issue.
We deeply regret the inconvenience to travelers who are waiting for visas, as well as their families and U.S. businesses that have been affected.
We continue to post updates to our website, travel.state.gov. Q: How can you clear your backlog so quickly?
As posts have been brought back online, we have been processing pending biometric checks. As those results are obtained and automatically transferred back to posts, our overseas staff has been completing the final adjudication steps to issue the visas.
Between June 9 and June 19, 335,000 visas that ordinarily would have been printed were stuck in clearance. Of that number, nearly 300,000 have now been printed. We expect to eliminate the remaining backlog by early next week.
Between June 9 and June 19, we advised affected applicants that they could cancel and reschedule their appointments for a later time. Most applicants scheduled for interview between June 9 and 19 had submitted their applications before June 9. Their interviews went ahead as scheduled. All posts have now reopened appointments, and many have added capacity to accommodate for rescheduled applicants.
New appointments continue to be scheduled every day. Please see travel.state.gov for information on appointment wait times at specific posts. Q: How are cases being prioritized?
We continue to facilitate urgent cases for those individuals who need to travel imminently, and will continue to do so until the systems return to full capacity.
We apologize to travelers and recognize that this has caused hardship to some individuals waiting for visas as well as families and employers. Q: What about the foreign agricultural workers (H2A visa holders?)
More than 3,750 temporary or seasonal workers have been issued new visas in Mexico since last week.
We will continue to prioritize H-2 applicants as our systems return to normal, and will issue as many approved cases as possible. We believe that we will have issued all current pending H-2 visas by the middle of next week, and we will have additional appointments open for new H-2 visa applications. Q: What about domestic passports?
Domestic passport operations are functioning, with some processing delays. Q: What about overseas passports?
Overseas passport applications are being processed. There have been delays in some cases, but posts overseas are able to issue emergency passports in urgent cases. Source: http://travel.state.gov/content/travel/english/news/technological-systems-issue.html |

Investment › Re: CBN Bans Rice, Cement Importers, Others From Forex Market by DanjaNinja(m): 9:58pm On Jun 25, 2015 |
Onegai: I'm not a political fan of anyone. But let us sit down and analyse this LOGICALLY.
So, they've banned rice and poultry and some other goods. The importers turn to black market and smuggling to bring in those goods. For a while, I cry, but then eventually LOGIC tells me to look for cheaper alternatives. People here have mentioned Nigerian rice and I have always bought live poultry (it's even better for my health than anything frozen with an expiry date some clever Nigerian has obscured and sells to me). I begin to buy this rice, and if others join me in demand for local rice, the local growers cannot keep up with demand and expand their business. AND HIRE WORKERS (leading to a reduction in Unemployment and an increase in spending power of Nigerians).
And because these local industries need power to expand (and won't sit on their ars.es hopefully waiting for government), they will look for other sources of power, including Waste, Solar, Wind, Hydro. And if our Engineers and Technicians are smart, they should hopefully be dusting up their skills in private power distribution (I'm staying with some engineers who are currently planning this for Nigeria. They don't live in Nigeria, meanwhile those in Nigeria are fighting for bank jobs So more SKILLED JOBS WILL BE CREATED.
Those same local industries will hopefully have smart people with vision in them who will think like Dangote and start their companies with people who have contacts in government, so the tax breaks come. Because that is how life works IN ANY COUNTRY and that is why Lobbyists exist. I would not start any company and expect it to grow without having as one of my partners someone well-versed and well-connected in my industry (that person will also have networks in government). Even if I have to go back to my state of origin to do so.
And any sensible company will say "Oh, Standards Organization of Nigeria doesn't do a great job, why not incorporate our own testing and standards company, open some labs and give honest, unbiased reviews of products on the market? If we do our jobs right, Nigerians will come to trust our label/certificate of Authenticity and Quality on any product and companies will pay us to review their products". And these guys will need to hire chemists, biologists, science people, PR officers, consultants, accountants, all sorts. AND MORE JOBS WILL BE CREATED.
And then watch your economy grow realistically... People have realised if you speak to Nigerians in tenderness, they will not listen but brute force makes them sit up. All the begging in the world would not have made one Nigerian driver wear a seatbelt but the fear of LASTMA became the beginning of seatbelt wisdom. We are in desperate times, that calls for desperate actions, the time for FG to leisurely implement policies has passed and State Govts have to start functioning (almost all of them are comatose).
The reason I can think about this LOGICALLY is that I realise no-one, absolutely no-one is forcing me to buy any imported goods. There are and will always be alternatives to everything imported. I haven't bought commercial body cream in 2 years and my skin is fantastic, I'm using organic stuff and best, my baby can use everything I use without me worrying about allergies or issues developing. I've avoided frozen chicken and my health isn't bad. I can actually buy furniture made in Nigeria (more stressful but can be done), my Nichem Wax ankara of 5 years is in better condition than anything else I bought that was imported from China (not one day of fading). So yeah, I survived without using certain imported goods. I found alternatives.
But I guess the next meal is more important than any meaningful change in 4 years' time, bah? Let's all sit back and enjoy that cheap imported rice.

The reason I think like this is that for a whole year, I have been saying that Importation must die and been studying up Business in Nigeria (and consulted for a medium-scale enterprise and worked in LASG and saw some projects up close and have some business proposals), so I can see the big picture. I wish everyone would. Your argument is impressive. Kudos. |

pumpin26: Hi, Danja. I would like to use this method tonight and right away but I do not have a standby printer. Is it possible to pay and print later. Thanks. Also, sent you a message via inbox. Yep, You don't need a printer. You can save the receipt as a PDF. Additionally, GTbank keeps a copy of the receipt on the Internet banking platform, allowing you to print a physical or soft copy whenever you want. |

Hi all. I just booked my Visa appointment using the GTBank internet banking platform. It was fast and seamless. Took me less than 5 minutes, all from the comfort of my home. If you have internet banking on Gtbank or know anyone who does, i would encourage you to use this method cos its pretty fast and stress free.

Food › Re: Nigeria Spent N660bn On Imported Chicken In 2014 by DanjaNinja(m): 10:02pm On Jun 24, 2015 |
kendrick9: 660bn for chicken? i smell lies. As absurd as it may seem, those figures are "TRUE". Lemme break it down for you. A Kilo of chicken costs between N800 - N900 and Nigeria has over 170 million people. Lets assume 20% of that figure consume chicken regularly. Twenty percent means out of every ten nigerians, only 2 consume chicken weekly. That leaves us with 34 million regular chicken consuming Nigerians. Please note am being conservative with my estimates. Furthermore, lets assume the average Nigerian consumes 2kg of chicken. Meaning, on a weekly basis, the average chicken consuming Nigerian spends N800 x 2 = N1,600. Dont forget these are just minimum estimates. Actual figures should be much more than these. From the above calculation, if 1 (one) Nigerian spends N1,600 on chicken per week, then 34million Nigerians will spend N1,600 x 34 Million = N54,400,000,000!!!! - N54 Billion Please note this is the selling price and not cost price. Lets assume cost price, that is the amount the importers paid for importing the chicken, is 65% of the selling price. This means that importers spend 65% of N54,400,000,000 = N35,360,000,000 i.e N35 Billion per week. And if we spend N35 Billion per week importing chicken, consequently we spend N35 Billion * 52 weeks = N1,855,000,000,000 i.e N1.8 Trillion annually !!!! Do you believe the numbers now? From our little calculation, it is evident that the Poultry Association of Nigeria estimate of N660 Billion wasn't even close. Imagine loosing N1.8 Trillion annually to illegal Poultry import! How can your economy survive ?? |

Kossyne: Hi, ve been following this thread for quite sometime now, on ghost mode though. Ur posts are really insightful to say the least. I planned to write GRE this year but due to financial constraint I ve to defer it. Meanwhile I want to start preparing for the exams now. I already sent a blank mail to ur mailbox but yet to receive the e books.. On a final note.. I want to know if TOEFL/ IELTS is compulsory if u re applying for a graduate prog in a US college. Check your spam folder. You will probably find the mails there. TOEFL/IELTS - TOEFL is more universally acceptable and most american universities prefer it. That said, while some universities may not require it, for most universities, yes, it is compulsory. So go ahead and take the TOEFL. It will even come in handy when you apply for funding in the form of Teaching & Research Assistanships. Infact, it is a requirement for funding. Thats it. Take the TOEFL and save yourself unecessary drama. Most schools require you show some proof of English proficiency and insist you submit either TOEFL or IELTS. American universities prefer TOEFL. |

Whoever operates selfstudy360 deserves alot of commendation. It was the absence of some recent materials that led to my creating selfstudy.version2@gmail.com. As for the mails not working, i dont think that's true. Both mails are still fully functional. Whoever did not receive a response should check his/her spam folder. Most times, you will find the response mail there. |

bigfrancis21: Both are fast depending on how you use them. Western union option is fast and takes about 2 days to reflect online. The check/money order option is fast if the mail (containing the money order and sevis payment form) is sent by expedited delivery (2 days delivery) which will reflect on the 3rd day. However, if the mail is sent by regular mail deliver (which takes from 3 days to 5 days to deliver) expect the payment to reflect online in about 5 days. But, WU payment option is costlier - it costs $10 to pay by this option. Thanks for the info. Am Grateful boss. |
