justwise: I was referring to the fact that US retailers don't even bother to sell at a discount before dumping the items in the waste bin. UK stores will at least sell at a discount then trash the items once it expires. I was trying to highlight the difference bw the US & British perspectives. |

Mindlog: I live in America, let me tell you, American retailers would rather die than sell 'About to expire' groceries at a discount. 'About to Expire' items are discarded in large numbers instead of being sold at a discount. I follow an account on instagram that documents food and retail waste at American stores. It is a sad story. And yet, a good number of Americans are starving. It gives me joy to know that the Brits sell at a discount. It reduces waste and helps feed the poor - Two things American capitalism don't care about. 5 Likes |

KufreDavid: Irresponsible tenants/human beings think alike. Not only are you grossly incorrect, you are an irresponsible tenant as well. I will say this for the last time, the landlady does not need a reason to give a quit notice. Who are you to tell her how to run her property? He is a tenant not a shareholder. Also, the Nigerian constitution does not protect debtors like the tenant. I applaud the landlady cos she knows what she is doing. Last las, na street the tenant go find himself. Nonsense. 3 Likes |

Excuzeme: Thank you for this. So many Nigerians are ignorant about Tenacy laws. They believe tenants are entitled to perpetual accommodation as far as he has paid rent at one time. A rented apartment is a business. What business offers free products for two years? The ee-diot even mentioned quit notice must come from the chambers and all. Lol. Ignorance everywhere. I pray they jam a knowledgeable landlord. Their eye go clear. |

clericuzzio: Mense profit and damages are two different things. Mense profit is any unpaid rent owed to the landlord. If the landlord wants that money and goes to court, the tenant must pay. |

MemoriesAndMe: You have just described my predicament. I currently live abroad. My tenant told me to my face that he doesn’t know when he would pay me rent. I’m currently in the process of evicting the tenant. The lesson has taught me never to invest in Nigerian real estate. I’d rather buy properties abroad where I’m fully protected by the law than waste my money in Nigeria. And yet, our people wonder why the economy is stagnant. No single trust and integrity. Diaspora Nigerians would rather keep money in the bank than invest in Nigeria. What a shame. 2 Likes |

bomasek: You are truly ignorant. If you really did that, then you were dealing with an ignorant Landlord. Your excuse is the reason there is a thing called "Quit Notice". It's a legal document giving you enough time to leave the house. So no, your excuse does not hold water. 1 Like |

princewarri1985: While Nigerians may be lawless. Nigeria is not as lawless as we think. The Landlord in this case is following due process. It doesn't even need to get to court. After the 6months, if the ee-diot doesn't move, she would file a motion to reclaim her property. And within 2months at most, the tenant would be evicted by the police. 2 Likes |

bonnyhope: According to the law, a landlord does not need a reason to evict a tenant. It's his/her property. They can evict the whenever they like. However, it must be done in accordance with the law. A tenant like the OP with yearly lease gets a 6months notice. The landlord in this case is actually follow due process. 2 Likes |

Orch1981: Lol. Look at this ignoramus. I already live in a saner country. Tenants like the OP would have been evicted a long time ago. The law protects both tenants and landlord. The landlord has a right to legally evict the tenant. The tenant cannot "make trouble" as the courts are quick to rule on such matters. No be by force to be tenant. Also Nigeria is not as lawless as you think. If a Landlord follows due process with a lawyer, that tenant would be out of the place in not time. I'm currently dealing with a tenant like the Op. This man does not pay rent on time. Infact he's still owing last year's rent. I will be serving him a quit notice shortly. Let him go fight with his stupidity. 1 Like |

Typical Over entitled tenant. The landlady does not need a reason to serve an eviction notice. It's her property and she can do as she wishes with respect to the law. I know tenants like you. You feel because you pay rent you have some ownership stake in the property. You mentioned your rent expired last month. A responsible tenant would reach out to inquire about rent renewal options. But your type will never do that. Also you mentioned that the landlady made a rent increase last year. Yes, she can increase rent. Do you know how much it cost to buy land and build a property? Also why would your fiance quarrel with the landlady? Una no get respect? p.s: A quit notice of 6months does not mean you get to live in the apartment free of charge for the next 6months. You will still pay for the 6months. If you like don't pay. She can take you to court and she would win. Nigeria is not as lawless as you people think. One day you would be a landlord and you would understand. Nonsense. 117 Likes 6 Shares |
