I have asked my skinny friends Number 4 several times. Lol. |
chloride6:This is correct. A gaming laptop is a waste of money. You would be fine with a desktop with a dedicated graphics card card (minimum vram - 3gb), 8gb main memory and core i5. |
Shelloween:Oga, Think before you post. If Munachi were your sister, would you post this? You dont know what people are going through in their lives. Learn to be considerate. Everyone has their own life to live. |
OluDare01:Yes, Nigerians were there in large numbers and so were indians. These indians dont cease to amaze me. Nna, are you people black ni? Biko leave NSBE for us o. Additionally, recruiters were quite aggressive about not hiring international students. The first question they ask you is "Would you at anytime need sponsorship?". As in, the thing just tire me. I guess this was the effect of the recent change in immigration policies by Trump. |

dicapino:Hi Bro, am at the NSBE convention. Send me a pm lets meet up. By the way, there are so many Nigerians at the convention. Everywhere you turn, Naija... ![]() |
Hi All, is there anyone attending the upcoming National Society of Black Engineers 43rd Convention at Kansas City next week? If you are attending, please pm me, i would like to meet some of the faces behind this amazing forum. ![]() |
OGreene:Congrats to you sir! University of California, Berkeley is one of the best university in the world!!!! Am so happy for you bro!! |
Theflint1:Absolutely. |
hublot:This is list so spot on! |
I made this post on the main usa student visa thread. As you prepare to study in the US, please note the following advise. You dont have to be in computer science either. "If you intend to do a Masters in Computer Science in the Us and you do not have a first degree in computer science, i take God beg you, once you get here, dont skip these two courses/prerequistes: Intro to Computer Science and mostly importantly, "Data Structures". An intro to algorithm course is also necessary. Computer Science is a deep and diverse field. All areas, from Artificial intelligence to database and standard applications programming (from windows to andriod) all require a good understanding of algorithms, data structures and some object oriented programming concepts (the latter is usually taugth in any standard data structure class). One common mistake those with a non-computer science background make is to skip these topics beliving they can survive and learn these prerequisites on the go all in the name of cutting cost. I repeat, Dont even think of taking any advanced level course until you have confidently understood the concepts taught in these courses. These are required "Prerequisites" and not "corequisites". You cannot learn as you go, you must already know these topics before you can take your regular graduate classes. My first semester was a disaster of epic proportions because i failed to take these courses. Imagine JJC like me taking classes on advanced database (i never even take database course before sef) and object oriented programming with c++. One thing is certain, you will struggle till the end of the semester and your grades would suffer greatly. I have spoken with friends studying computer science from several universities and they all share the same opinion. Please note, this is not Nigeria where your final exam makes up 70 percent of your final grade. Over here, your final exam is mostly 30-40% of your final grade. The rest is evenly split between your assignments, midterms, papers, projects and labs. In this amelika, to make an A, you need a score of 90 and above whereas in naija you need only 70 to make an A. The difference is like night and day. So, for your own good, as soon as you arrive, approach your academic advisor and make them understand you dont have any background in computer science. This applies to every other discipline. Interact with your academic adviser as well as current students. Make them know your background and your limitations. Its not always about studying hard, sometimes for you to succeed, you need to "know what you dont know that you dont know". Only those with experience in that field can help you with that." |

Please does any know anyone who currently attends University of California, Berkeley? I need access to some computer science materials over there. Thanks. |
akin3102:You would find all you need here: http://www.nigeriahouse.com/newpassport.aspx VERY IMPORTANT - Endeavor to buy a blank $30 money order. You can get one from your local USPS post office. The $30 money order in addition to the $106 you paid online are required for your passport processing. Without the money order, your passport would not be processed. |
234ng44uk:Hi there, I appreciate your concern but your opinion is inaccurate. You live in the UK not the US. FYI, in the us, there are multiple outlets to choose from - New York, Washington DC and Atlanta. I renewed my Nigerian passport at the Embassy in New York four weeks ago and guess what? I go it that same day. Biometrics and data entry was done by 11am and passport was ready for collection by 4pm. According to what I heard, 95% of those who applied got their passports that same day. Only about 5% of those who applied were told to return the next day for passport collection. |
osahons9:I attend the University of Bridgeport. How may I help you? P.s: I don't advise you to come here. Funding and regular Job opportunities are extremely competitive. |
akin3102:Go to New York. Contrary to what you have heard, they are quite efficient. I got my renewed passport in a day. |
happyday:Whatever you do, please don't apply to university of Bridgeport. That's my school. Funding is very difficult here. |
Gunbiz:Yes, indeed there is a facebook group and at that time, we thought adding members to that facebook group was a good idea. In retrospect, that was a wrong move. A very wrong move. Why? Firstly, the facebook group is a private group. All information posted on that group is private and cannot be found through a search engine like google. Incase you dont know, valuable information that cannot be easily found, is useless information. Secondly, it violates one of the core principles behind the creation of this platform which is to provide a community where people can help one another with useful information on passing the GRE and subsequently getting admitted to the university of one's choice. You may have not noticed but at the time we did GRE group additions, there were barely any meaningful contributions on this thread. Instead, 90% of the posts were based on requests for addition to the GRE group. Suffice to say, this thread became a transit/connecting station for Gre group travellers. They come in, request to be added, get added and never return to make any meaningful contribution. One outcome was inevitable - the eventual death of this thread. For the sake of preserving this beautiful community of humble, selfless, volunteers helping each other succeed and thrive, we did the needful and shut down all gre facebook additions. The recent string of high quality meaningful post on this thread is a testament to that decision. In Olamide's voice "Every post on the thread was a hit back to back". Moving on, I know i have been absent from this thread but from the bottom of my heart, i thank all those who have kept this thread alive. Sirriddy, i sincerely thank you for selflessly leading this thread even as you do your PhD. Studying in the US is a tough experience. Only those who currently live and study in america would understand what you go through to make contributions on this thread. To do three heavy courses with mountain loads of weekly assignments, work 20 hours a week as a Graduate assistant, cook, hustle babe and yet still find time to come on nairaland to make contributions is truly laudable of you. To all those who have made truly mind blowing contributions - drHopeful, time2smile, believerspraise, Scholastica16, Bolisticbond026, andradaeze to name a few, i say thank you. Keep doing what you do. God has a wonderful way of blessing those who give. And biko, abeg no vex If your name was not mentioned, please keep up the good work because all those who have benefited from your contributions greatly appreciate you as well. Oh before i forget, did you know its been almost three years since this thread was created? Its funny how it grew into this beautiful community. When i made the first post, i had one goal in my mind "build a place where like minded individuals can help each other pass the GRE by sharing useful information". Right now its 178 pages and 187,500 views strong. Even though ranking was never the intent, if you do a google search on how to get high scores on the gre, this thread is number 6 on the list. This would not have been possible without every single person who has made a contribution. You all made this happen. It goes to show the what can be accomplished when people come together to support and help one another grow. On a side note, to all those complaining about reading from the first page of the thread, i see and hear you. You think the GRE is tough? lol. Wait till you get to america. You haven't seen anything yet. If you cant even read 178 pages of useful information that would help you achieve your dreams, how can you even survive? It begs the question - "what are your priorities in life?" America is a beautiful tough place. You have to be really strong to survive here. |
sirRiddy:Damn! I've got like a hundred pages of catching up to do. Besides, who on earth has the guts and temerity to provoke SirRiddy? Biko o, that person should "Gerrarahere" o!!!! |

One of the best stories I've read on nairaland. Keep it up boss. |
Stupid country. How many ibo contractors do you have handling mega construction projects in dubai? |

[quote author=happyday post=49145133]I see your amazing contributions. God bless you immensely. ![]() |
iCool:Nice work. NOTE TO ALL: if you know of a specific page with insightful information, kindly tag me. I intend to create an index of such links in the first page. That way accessing specific information would be quick and painless. |
auxioneer:Hi Auxioneer, how are you? This might be late given you intend to take the test by October but I am glad you found this thread and i pray that your request for expert guidance be met. That said, did you know that if you read the very first page of the thread, you would find most of the information you need? Additionally, reading through the entire thread wont hurt either - you would be surprised by the amount of insightful information buried within the pages of this thread. ![]() |
kaima2015:Had no idea the GRE grading scale has been upgraded. |
Damn! Over twenty pages to catch up on! Am so impressed with the spirit of community on this forum. I am so glad progress is being made continuously. God bless you all. ![]() |
drhopeful:You cant go wrong with University of Pittsburgh. Amazing school it is. |
