I commend you on your idea of a united Nigeria.
I only fail to understand whether you are justifying the genocide on Igbos for what Nzeogwu individually did?
The so called reactions by Hausa and other Nigerians has left a big scare that is amendable. The reasons behind the action is still a mystery.
I could forgive what these guys did to my family during the war, but the massacre still go on in the north every year.
If some Nigerians can't live in other parts of Nigeria without fear of being butchered at the slightest provocation, then why the noise of "one Nigeria".
I abhor violence by all means and I am ashamed and appalled each time fanatics in the North or South turn violent due to ethno-centric or religious reasons. I am by all means a realist, not matter what we do as liberal and progressive minds, there will always be people who will indulge in nepotism, racism and tribalism- thats is a fact and it is those same subjects that cause havoc every now and then.

The Ibo genocide in the North in 1966 that culminated into the Civil war was by all means wrong. Nzeogwu sellfish actions do not by all means justify the pogrom-but that is the past- We must all move on as a one nation. I pray the day when all Nigerians will consider themselves- Nigerian- born and proud rather than North/South or Hausa/Yoruba/Ibo/ Minorities.

Nation building must start now- the old generation has failed us, the new one must not falter

When Kaduna Nzeogwu went around with military officers of Ibo origin slaugthering Balewa, Akintola, Ahmadu Bello, Okotie-Eboh et al sparing Azikwe and Michael Okpara: what did you expect? Of course, It was an Ibo coup against all other Nigerian sections! T Y Danjuma with his bunch of miscreants responded albeit stupidly to the dog eat dog phenomenon then.

See all this is past! History. TY Danjuma, Obasanjo and all other actors in that shameless period of our history should rot in hell. Unfortunately they still have their grip of the Nigerian Project, re-awakening past bloodsheds and injustices they meted on each other which brought the Nigerian nation to her kness.

Nigerians I think deserve leaders who will change their fortunes. The old league has failed us misreably, It is time they leave the pages of our newspapers and political scene. Enough of all this talk and hatred, we need to move on!
PoliticsRe: Sani Abacha Stadium: A Eulogy To Evil? by Danmasani(m): 6:12pm On Mar 16, 2008
Sanni Abacha, now dead for 8 years was no doubt a dictator and tyrant. But how about Olusegun Obasanjo, IBB? Are those not dictators or tyrants too? Or is it because they still breathe and call the shots in Nigeria today! Abacha persecuted his enemies vigorously, so did Olusegun Obasanjo. Abacha used state machinery to intimidate his opponents, So did Obasanjo with EFCC, ICPC and all agencies out there. Abacha stole and mismanaged billion of naira and cornered billions for himself. IBB today has still not yet cleared the air on the missing $15 billion oil windfall of the Gulf war nor has he attested to the billions mismanaged during his government. How about Obasanjo? $3 billion were said to be sank into roads, $4billion or $5billion ( or how much is it as they seem to come with numbers from all angles) on power, $?? on refineries Turn- over maintenance?? How about billions mismanaged during COJA and CHOGM and the fallout of the Obasanjo's family handling the contracts and making money for themselves? Is there any difference today between how Mohammed Abacha and Gbenga Obasanjo in benefiting from govt largesse? Is there any between Stella Obasanjo and Miriam Abacha whose 'pet projects' were non-other than means to further plunge deeper into the pockets of the Nigerian state and extract as much as they can?

The moment we start calling a pot for what it is- black, the moment we be better. Obasanjo's era plunged Nigeria further in abyss, so did Abacha's and Babangida's. OBJ has EFCC, Abacha had Failed Bank Tribunals for their enemies. Yet Pentascope exist and has bought properties from Nigeria at discounted prices, Ota Farms is at its height after years in the doldrum and no one is questoning anyting!

My two cents is this! If there is a Olusegun Obasanjo road/highway/airport/center/stadium/ whatever, so also should there be an IBB way/center/road as there is a Sani Abacha way/stadium/airport or whatever. All three failed as leaders of the Nigerian state. Any double standards meted on Abacha while ignoring the horrors of IBB or Obasanjo is unfair and biased!

I came back from Naija recently and Abuja is looking clean with some much order. No more okada men nor dirty buses. Infact Abuja mass transit is comparable to what you get in London. They have clean buses stopping only at bus stops and black cabs to take not more than 3 people a time. El- rufai has changed Abuja tremendoulsy. Even those who were opposed to his policies initially are now praising him! That i belive is what Lagos needs, ban molue and Okada slowly from every Nigerian city, Okadas have become a nuisance, especialy in the North!

Berti Vogts has just released his final line-up. Anichebe is not in it. I hope he does not get frustrated and play for England oo!

BBC SPORT
Anichebe to miss Nigeria Cup bid
Everton striker Victor Anichebe has been left out of Nigeria's squad for the African Nations Cup.

Anichebe has yet to play for his country of birth despite being called up several times.

He has also been sought after by the England under-21 team but has insisted his loyalty is with the Super Eagles.

Coach Berti Vogts said on Tuesday that he was taking his best players to training camp in Spain on 4 January.

"My target is to win the cup and we can do that with a bit of luck," said the German coach.

The squad was predictable but includes three players from the Nigeria team that won the under-17 World Cup in Korea in September.

Vogts said these players would only be there for the experience.

Squad:

Goalkeepers:
Austin Ejide (Bastia/FRA), Dele Aiyenugba (Bnei Yehuda/ISR), Vincent Enyeama (Hapoel Tel Aviv/ISR)

Defenders:
Rabiu Afolabi (Sochaux/FRA), Danny Shittu (Watford/ENG), Onyekachi Apam (OGC Nice/FRA), Obinna Nwaneri (FC Sion/SWI), Joseph Yobo (Everton/ENG), Ifeanyi Emeghara (Steaua Bucharest/ROM), Kingsley Udoh (Akwa United), Efe Ambrose (Kaduna United), Taye Taiwo (Marseille/FRA)

Midfielders:
Seyi Olofinjana (Wolves/ENG), Dickson Etuhu (Sunderland/ENG), Richard Eromoigbe (Levski Sofia/BUL), John Mikel Obi (Chelsea/ENG), Sani Kaita (Sparta Rotterdam/NED), Onyekachi Okonkwo (FC Zurich/SWI), Yusuf Ayila (Dynamo Kyiv/UKR), Lukman Haruna (Crystal Academy), Rabiu Ibrahim (Sporting Lisbon/POR), Oladapo Olufemi (Boavista/POR)

Akunyili threatens to sue Adedibu
Olayinka Oyebode and Olusola Fabiyi, Abuja
http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art2007111714394151

More troubles are on the way for controversial Oyo State politician, Chief Lamidi Adedibu, as the Director-General of the National Food, Drug Administration and Control; Prof. Dora Akunyili, on Friday demanded a public apology from him over utterances concerning her during his recent trial in Abuja

Adedibu, a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party, had alleged that Akunyili was fighting him because of her failure to secure a ministerial appointment under the current administration. He said the NAFDAC boss actually lobbied him to get her such appointment, and that she only resorted to blackmailing him after she had failed to realise that ambition.

Akunyili, through her solicitors on Friday, wrote a letter to Adedibu, in which she demanded a public apology. She said the apology should be given prominence within seven days or the politician risked a libel suit.

Also on Friday, Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, restated that Adedibu’s arraignment by the police indicated that nobody is above the law.

Akunyili’s letter by Mr. K.O.P. Odidika of the Sower & Messuarius Solicitors and dated November 16. It read in part, “We are the Solicitors to Prof. Dora Akiunyili on whose behalf and instructions we write to you in connection with the above subject matter.

“It is our instruction that you addressed a press conference wherein you made several reckless and irresponsible statements against our client. In fact, you most irresponsibly referred to our client as a ‘useless woman who goes about talking rubbish.’

It is our further instruction that you referred to our client as a person who lobbied for a ministerial appointment, praising you in the process of the lobbying, but lost out and as such started behaving irresponsibly.

“For the avoidance of doubt, our client visited your home during the Yar’Adua/Jonathan Presidential campaign and the team was led by Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan and Chief Olabode George. At no time did our client address you, not to talk of praising you,

“Our client has suffered incalculable damages as a result of your libelous statement, as she has been receiving numerous calls from all over the world in respect of your statement.

“It is our instruction to demand that you retract all the statements complained of, which you made against our client and render a PUBLIC APOLOGY to her.

“Please TAKE NOTICE that unless the said retraction and public apology are given the same prominence as the statements complained of and rendered within 7 days from the date hereof, we shall commence legal proceedings against you to compel obedience and seek adequate recompense for the damage caused by your reckless utterances.”

Meanwhile, Okiro, in an exclusive interview with our correspondent, in Abuja, said there would be no sacred cow in the police’s determination to make the country peaceful for everyone.

He said, “I have always been saying it, nobody is above the law. It (Adedibu’s arraignment) will also send a signal to all that we are determined to maintain the peace, and that whoever we suspect is capable of causing trouble or has caused trouble will be apprehended.

“Nobody will be treated with kid gloves. And I am assuring you that we are more determined in our resolve to maintain peace in the country.”

Adedibu was on Thursday arraigned at an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court on a two-count charge on acts capable of breaching the peace.

The charge against him read, “That you, Adedibu, and two others now at large were arrested on a reasonable suspicion in that you are likely to initiate disturbance of public peace.

“Your conduct and that of your thugs are likely to breach public peace in Abuja , Ibadan and other states of the country, contrary to Section 88(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code.”

The PDP stalwart pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail. Police prosecutor, Mr. Columbus Okaro, said the arraignment of the politician was to extract an undertaking from him that he would be of good behaviour.

This, however, generated some controversy as some Nigerians have said the police did a shoddy job, and that they were not sincere in the prosecution of Adedibu.

But Okiro said that was not true. He also said that he was not under any pressure, as speculated in some quarters, to take the accused to court, adding that he was only doing his job.

According to him, “Nobody is putting pressure on me; I am only doing my job, which is to maintain law and order in this country. It is my responsibility to make sure that there is no breach of the law, and that is what I have done in this regard.”

Asked if he was satisfied with the bail conditions given Adedibu, Okiro said the aim of taking the accused person to court was not to kill him. Rather, the purpose was to extract a promise from him that he would be of good behaviour and would maintain the peace.

Okiro said, “We did not take him to court to be killed; what we did was to ask the law to take its course.

“If the law can deal with him as we asked, he also has the right to ask the same law to protect him. That is what has happened. We are pleased with what happened.”

Our correspondent, however gathered that Adedibu’s arraignment might have resulted from displeasure said to have been expressed by President Umaru Yar’Adua to his close aides.

The President, it was learnt, was unhappy when he got the report that the Ibadan-based politician was obstructing the work of NAFDAC, as reported by Akunyili.

A top security chief told our correspondent on condition of anonymity, that even though the President did not register his displeasure to the IG, the top cop got to know through one of his closed friends at the Villa.

Asked if Adedibu’s arraignment has anything to do with the forthcoming local government elections, Okiro said he would not want to be specific.

He learnt, “I don’t want to be specific on this. What I can tell you is that we are putting in place so many security measures in order to have peaceful elections across the country. Don’t forget that we are also in ‘ember months.’ So, we have to double our security measures, so that we can have peaceful celebrations.”

Akunyili's word is credible and that lady commands respect from Nigerians than the office of the Secretary to the Federal
Government. Now if some shark who is supposed to be losing his teeth comes out lying about her, I urge her to prosecute him to the highest order. Some form of example must be made of this old fool,

Adedibu back in Ibadan, says nobody is above the law
Sunday Aborisade

http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art200711171441643

Controversial Oyo State politician, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, returned to Ibadan on Friday and declared that his arrest and arraignment showed that nobody is above the law under the present government.

Adedibu, who addressed journalists at his Molete residence in company with the state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja, however insisted that his arrest was politically motivated.

The politician said the way the police and the judiciary handled his trial showed that the Peoples Democratic Party was not teleguiding them.

He said, ”I am very happy that both the Police and the Judiciary are now exercising their freedom freely. They are not being teleguided by the government. It is a clear indication that democracy is fully on course.

Ordinarily, the police would not have arrested me because of my status in the PDP. I am the father of the party and my arraignment in court yesterday has not diminished my status”

Adedibu said he was well taken care off by the police authorities because he was accommodated in a very comfortable room, where the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, personally visited him.

Hundreds of his supporters, including a former governor in the state, Chief Kolapo Ishola; and former military governor of Lagos State, Brigadier-General Raji Rasaki (rtd), were in Adedibu‘s residence on solidarity visit

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Government on Friday denied that it had any rift with Adedibu over appointments into state and federal boards.

The Special Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Public Communication, Mr. Dotun Oyelade, told our correspondent that there was no disagreement between his boss, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, and Adedibu over the composition of boards of government agencies and parastatals.

The Adedibu camp had, prior to his invitation to Abuja by Okiro, accused the governor of unduly favouring his cronies in appointments at the state and federal levels at the expense of qualified party men .

The Adedibu camp said that the action violated an arrangement reached before the April 14 governorship election on appointment into political offices.

Oyelade, however told our correspondent on the phone that Adedibu and Alao-Akala understand each other very well and could not disagree over such issues like board appointments.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria - Odili Is Free And Efcc Can Not Touch Him Say Governor by Danmasani(m): 4:45am On Nov 07, 2007
Kobojunkie:
Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has assured that he would not probe the government of Dr. Peter Odili because of lack of evidence.

Amaechi who disclosed this to newsmen at the weekend at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammad Airport, Lagos stated: "I am not aware that there is any offence for which it could be probed."

Contrary to the popular refrain of inheriting an empty treasury, the governor who assumed office late last month through the Supreme Court's verdict said his immediate predecessor, Celestine Omehia, left a robust treasury.

"I did not meet an empty treasury. I have some money left in the bank," he said. Commenting on what blue print he had for the state, Amaechi said there were lots of programmes that his administration would embark upon, adding that he would carry the people along in articulating the policy frame work.

"We want to focus massively on poverty alleviation. Rivers State is a one-city state and we want to change that. We want to ensure that the welfare of the people, that is, the commonwealth, goes back to the people, not just to the elite. We are not just rushing to do projects or programmes; we want to involve the people to articulate policies before selling to them the ideas of what we want to do. There will be education reforms, health reforms and all that," Amaechi said.

On comments by some legal practitioners who faulted the procedure for his return as governor, he argued that he remained the bona fide governor of the state.

"I hope they are reading the constitution very well. The constitution says a party canvasses for votes, not an individual. If a party canvasses for votes, it means that the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) has won and I'm declared the authentic candidate of the PDP. Therefore, I remain the governor of Rivers State ," he declared.
No where in this post did Amaechi say that EFCC can not touch Odili. He only said there was a "lack of evidence". That is, when "evidence" shows up, there will be an "offense which could be probed".

They have proven to be the mouthpiece of Nigerians against anything evil and satanic. Keep up the good works. Continue to expose corruption, mediocrity and maladministration for us, that way we know who the enemies of Nigeria are, More are still to be done, Aoodonka must work for the people or go, Ibori, Odili, Dariye et al must be brought to book, Governors selected via fraud and intimidation must vacate their offices etc, the list goes on,

For those who say we should leave Etteh, Yes, we will leave her. In our minds, she has entered the list of black book of people caught defrauding and raping Nigeria, she joins the clique of Abacha, Alams, Tafa Balogun, Wabara et al. if someone can appropriate such a heck sum of money as $5million or 695NGN for the sole purpose of changing electric bulb, fittings, painting and buying 12 cars amounts to nothing other than the biggest scam ever- an epitome of embezzelment never seen before. To request 100NGN for a body massage equipment in the midst of poor infrastructure and immense poverty among the citizenry speaks of her personality- a greedy selfish criminal who refused to resign even when shame was splattered all over her face!

To EFCC, ICPC et al, we are waiting for the verdict on Wabara, Osuji among others. Also Etteh, Nguroje and all others should join the list after investigation. Please also remember that a stadium in Abuja sits at the cost of more than a $1billion. I wonder what kind of stadium cost that much to build- please go after all those involved. Probity and accountability must be the watchwords and dictum of Nigerian politicians henceforth!

Nigeria speaker goes in graft row
The speaker of Nigeria's House of Representatives, Patricia Etteh, has resigned after weeks of pressure.

An inquiry found her guilty of breaking house rules in awarding contracts worth $5m to refurbish houses and buy cars.

But she had repeatedly refused to step aside and allow a temporary speaker to chair a debate into the findings.

Parliamentary business, including a debate on Nigeria's budget, has been held up for weeks as a result of the affair that has gripped the nation.

Heated

Mrs Etteh, a former beautician and ruling party member, is accused of irregularities in spending $5m of government money to buy 12 cars and renovate two official residences - her own and that of a deputy.

She had consistently denied any wrongdoing but opponents argued forcibly that she should step aside temporarily to allow someone else to chair the debate into the findings of the panel of inquiry, chaired by David Iroko.

The row became so heated that a brawl broke out in parliament earlier this month, during which one pro-Etteh MP collapsed and died.

Mrs Etteh's aides told the BBC's Abuja Bureau that the speaker had decided that she could no longer continue and that her deputy, Babangida Nguroje, has also resigned.

The lower house elected Terngu Tsegba, an opposition politician from central Benue State, as the acting speaker.

Mr Tsegba will now preside over the Iroko debate, which is expected to take up to a week.

Parliament will then have to elect a permanent replacement to Mrs Etteh.
