I never said hardwork was an alien virtue, as a virtue - hardwork was glorified only by the slave or peasant class, to everyone else it was something to be ashamed of or a necessary debasement.

A man who won wars, captured slaves and offered human sacrifices to the gods on behalf of his community was held in a much higher esteem than the average hardworking farmer.

Only through colonization and the introduction of Christianity did things fall apart, then hardwork and patience became something to preach about.

Better pay at what cost? Always being insulted and told to leave the country, sure they might not mind - but most times these people migrate with their children, their children will usually grow up without a sense of identity and in some cases a permanent sense of shame, they won't fit in anywhere, in any race, tribe or class.
