totit:There was no bigotry in her post, she didn't support IPOB or insulted Yoruba people, she just showed support for her candidate and in a very low-key responsible way. |
Christistruth03:Then why did they all seat back and allow him to run, why didn't they begin their madness then maybe save everyone lots of headache |
Is she married yet? |
Omowale2023:True, but it might also make people take the site more seriously. |
Omowale2023:Reddit and Quora have good moderators, they also use an upvoting system so the most sensible posts are more visible... I don't think this might work for Nairaland Just observe how the most tribalistic posts tend to get more likes than moderate ones So good moderators or upvoting system won't change much it's the customer base that needs to be worked on. |
It seems like you are cursing UBA for being a good bank. They did a transaction - it didn't go well, hence they reversed the money so their customer doesn't lose his money. That's what a good bank should do. |
AchrafHakimi: 1. "Stupid teenagers & children" have the most money to spend on frivolities which Nairaland is. No because to pay you need to have a bank account with money inside which teenagers wouldn't have and if they have it they wouldn't want to spend the only money their parents gave them on Nairaland 2. "those who consider Nairaland not worth it would simply leave" are the guys that drive Nairaland's ad revenue. If the numbers leave, Seun's ad rate drops This wouldn't be a problem because Seun would no longer rely so heavily on ad revenue. 3. If you think any serious person will pay to comment on Nairaland then you are deluded. The serious ones read & scroll. 90% of commenters are attention seekers. I agree, as long as Nairaland remain a petty site no one in their right mind would want to pay to interact on it, if this changes though. |
In other words "I am putting business before sentiments" |
AchrafHakimi:I mean it will drastically reduce the number of stupid comments since teenagers and children can't comment on the site because they can't afford it, also those who consider Nairaland not worth it would simply leave, also it will reduce the pressure on the mods to push trendy but meaningless topics to generate traffic. Meaning a large pool of sensible people would remain and this would change the discourse on the site for the better. "I think". |
I mean the level of useless comments I read here is abominable, 90% of the comments on front page topics are just repetition of the first few posts, it's sad because there are some sensible and educational posts on Nairaland which are overcrowded by the number of rabble posts. I think Seun needs to introduce an annual subscription, that should at least reduce the number of senseless post here and create a sense of exclusivity. |
This is how things were meant to be |
![]() thisisit:Have you lived in self contain apartment where there is no clear head or leader, where every tenant can do their way as long it is within their apartment, it is usually a disaster and such a building would become uninhabitable... For example what would you do when some girls flush pad down the toilet, and this cause the soakaway pipe to get stuck which would affect other tenants... Sometimes when water is pumping it doesn't reach everybody because some people just leave their tap running... What about Nepa bill? What about tenants who refuse to participate in sanitation? One way or the other you would have to interfere in people's apartments because it affects yours, so this analogy simply doesn't work, living in a house with no central authority would not be so different from a face-me-I-face-you, having a strong central authority is the solution for better accomodation in both scenarios. "BESIDE IN REGIONAL STRUCTURE, THIS DO-OR-DIE MENTALLY OF POLITICIANS IN THEIR BID TO BE AT THE ALMIGHTY CENTRE WILL NOT BE THERE. IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT THST SOME REGIONS HAVE PROBLEM.. THE PROBLEM IS LOCALIZED WITHIN THE REGION." What are you basing your claims off? Are you basing it on history? Maybe you didn't read about the massive amount of political scandals, protests and lynchings in the early days of Nigerian independence, I personally think your suffering from nostalgia of the good old days syndrome... - if regionalism was so good it would have still existed, good things can't be destroyed easily... Having a central authority helps to balance different kinds of people. Maybe the authority should not be too powerful to the point of tyranny, but it should not be too weak to allow chaos. Thank You. |
thisisit:Nigeria is still tribalist and corrupt, now imagine how things would be under regionalism... Under regionalism the regional governor would have an extreme amount of power over a vast number of people - add a little corruption to the mixture and you have a nightmare... Under regionalism Igbos would dominate the South East, Hausas and Fulanis would Dominate the North, I'm sure Calabars and Niger deltans would be glad to have their future dictated by Igbos, same way people of Jos and Benue would love to be ruled by Fulanis... This is what you believe would stop tribalism. Old ways are not necessarily good because they are old - you should take your own advice, just because regionalism is old doesn't mean it was good. |
thisisit:Because it encouraged tribalism, it also encourages corruption, a body cannot function with different brains. Aguiyi Ironsi himself abolished it and no other leader was foolish enough to revive it. |
thisisit:Shut the fak up jare, there's a very good reason it was abolished in the first place |

This topic is long overdue but I feel I do not have enough resources to do it justice. We shall begin with Fani Kayode's famous line "the new found trust and alliance between the people of the SW and the people of the NORTH shall never again be broken" Now one might ask when did this trust exist and who broke it... Perhaps it was when Usman Dan Fodio declared a jihad on the Oyo Empire or maybe when Tafewa Balewa sentenced Awolowo to ten years imprisonment, or maybe when Sani Abacha killed MKO Abiola, however none of this is important what matters is the geopolitics of Nigeria presently and what is responsible for the 'new found trust' , the answer is very simple and complicated 'IGBOS'... Igbos are one of the major tribes in nigeria but unlike the other major tribes, igbos lack a central structure and this lack of central structure is both a great strength and a greater weakness.. Yorubas leaders no longer have to just worry about the ambition of Northerners they now also have to worry about the ambition of Easterners... It's a tight situation, it's like choosing between a mad enemy and a smart enemy, the mad enemy is mad so you can't reason with him, the smart enemy on the other can be reasoned with, however he can also plan and aim more effectively on how to bring your destruction. For now Yoruba leaders have picked the smart enemy and they hope that by convincing them they have the same enemy and goals perhaps this smart enemy would not destroy them... but there's a tiny tiny flaw in this plan, this plan only works as long as Igbo leaders do not try to form some kind of alliance with Northerners and as long as Northerners perceive Igbos as a threat, so no matter how they ally with the North they also have to carefully make sure Igbos don't change course and they also have to buff up igbos so they don't appear too weak and non threatening, they have to keep the embers of hatred alive from time to time between these two groups. But fortunately things are going well - a bit too well, the Oyo Empire is finally rising again, but in the long run only time will tell. |
etrange:Okay you guys are being intentionally ignorant She wrote a letter to the United States President that was not 'expressing your views' something even Peter Obi and Obasanjo did not do. |
The worst part about japa wave is how it ultimately destroys its purpose... If few Nigerians japa then it's not a problem - because it's not a problem more Nigerians begin to japa and very soon the worst Nigerians will japa too and they will japa with all the crime, lawlessness, corruption that the initial japaists claim to run away from... Eventually the government will become racist and would ban Nigerians from immigrating. |
I wish people can just focus on their jobs, Doctors should be Doctors, Lawyers should be Lawyers, Writers should be Writers they should leave Politics for Politicians |
MasterJayJay:The terrorism and banditry is proof of how great Northerners are, even northern criminals are united and disciplined. Compare them with a certain terrorist group in the South that runs to Finland or UK at every small opportunity, they can't even work together to do their crime in peace... Northern Terrorist are actually willing to die for what they believe in and the fact Nigerian government have been fighting them for over a decade, should show you how well trained and resilient they are. As for the so - called illiteracy, where is the education in the South where their youths are either Yahoo boys, Drug addicts or cultists?... Where they turn on each other at the slightest provocation for the stupidest reason? Education is not education |
They are the most united, God fearing people... who at the same time are very humble, slow to anger yet very ruthless when they need to be. They have been in power for over 100years and they shall rule for 100 more because they are God's chosen people. Southerners are too barbaric, disorganized and corrupt to rule anything. Power must go to the North Inshallah. God Bless Nigeria. |
The coup has been successful Shettima is the president |
Wealthoptulent:I have been saying that long before the elections even began It's amazing how the man responsible for the deaths of many youths in this nation managed to live to a ripe old age to add insult to injury he even feels qualified to dictate our politics direction. |
Gambling should be banned in this country |
Wole Soyinka brought cultism to Nigeria he has played a big role in the degradation of Nigerian morals, however criticizing him based on politics and not on his own works is extraordinarily foolish. |
