TV/MoviesRe: What's Your Favourite Movie Soundtrack Or Theme Song? by darqly(m): 3:15pm On Jul 29, 2009
This is a tricky one, so many excellent soundtracks, great themes out there.

Lets see-

Hans Zimmerman for his music in "The Last Samurai"

Michael Nyman for his music in "Gattaca" (Very haunting music I tell U)

John Barry(and his orchestra) for their music in "On her majesty's Secret Service"

Then anything by Ennio Morricone, James Horner and Jerry Goldsmith.

The theme I'll NEVER forget though is the Intro from "Battlestar Galactica" totally awesome

TV/MoviesRe: Zain University Challenge Vs Who Wants To Be A Millionaire by darqly(m): 2:15pm On Jul 29, 2009
@kofi, for want of nothing better to contribute, silence would've been golden here!!

I only stumbled across Zain's Uni Challenge once, boy was the office hooked cos we worked late that night.
The questions were enriching and tasking but the contestants were razor-sharp in most instances, I was so impressed, I was gobsmacked shocked There are still some that go thru school, not just schools, GOOD schools!

WWTBAM is sort of losing its novelty, but I feel its cos the contestants have really been mediocre. Not their fault really, you get in by raffle, and your immediate aim is to win your ticket-fare back home and some loose change for personal effects grin
What the show needs is someone that is really smart, plays his/her cards right vis-a-vis lifelines and GAMBLE appropriately.
I only ever watched one where one Lady gambled all of 2m and wound up with 250,000 if I recall correctly. She gave us a thrill no doubt, but most labeled her 'mumu'. You could see from her carriage though that money wasn't exactly lacking.
I'd love to be in the hotseat at least once in my lifetime!!
PoliticsRe: Boko Haram - Education Is Forbidden by darqly(m): 9:49am On Jul 28, 2009
Illiteracy is the problem, read some the defences for "Boko Haram" in this thread and you wonder whether some people have been de-brained.
A kettle is black and some are desperately trying to call it white and FORCE every other person to agree its white.
If secular or Western or Eastern or ****tern education is abominable or forbidden, then by all means do not go to school. But PLEASE leave those who want to, to go ahead.

Hausa muslims always have to display their thirst for blood and outright idiocity, probably an after-effect of meddling with the bovine species.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: SSS Exams Date? by darqly(m): 6:16pm On Jul 23, 2009
akman, successful in this context would encompass 'any and every' other criteria involved in the selection. Unless u mean they'd employ "unsuccessful candidates" by simply calling them??
Jobs/VacanciesRe: SSS Exams Date? by darqly(m): 4:14pm On Jul 23, 2009
but the main thing you have to know is that you'll only be called IF you are successful, nothing like going to check for results on any notice board grin

Strange, we actually got our results the same day we took the test back in '06.
PoliticsRe: Fashola Warns Mend by darqly(m): 4:40pm On Jul 16, 2009
loong yawn So its ok for MEND to go bomb Abuja, Jos, Jigawa et al becos those are the states  drinking their oil, but Lagos is a touch not?
Just shows why the capital was moved from a network of creeks and conjoined islands called Lagos to the heart of the Nation.
Fashola can do ZILCH to MEND except publicly denounce them. Anything else is just hot air. They're thieves, killers, looters, etc but then we are all agreed that they should control their resource abi?
The sooner they lose all credibilty the better for the rest of us in Nigeria. Criminality is not a tool in negtiation or a means of gaining attention or sympathy.
So they bomb the oil industry to stupor, then what?
PoliticsRe: MEND Attacks Lagos by darqly(m): 11:00am On Jul 14, 2009
You might be suprise that your close door neighbour in Kano, Lagos or Abuja is a member of Mend.
@presido, I find that highly unlikely. They live in their creeks where they operate from. Our military is just bloody inept and is treating them with kid-gloves hence their feeling of accomplishment.

@nezan, true talk- They're just thieves, call a spade a spade.

For the war-mongers(referred to henceforth as Hawks), I doubt ANY of you has been in a gunfight before, or seen your loved ones thirst and starve because you ALL were too scared to go look for food. U hawks are based overseas and are clamouring "WAR WAR WAR", come and enlist now if you mean it, either for your beloved MEND or FGN as the case may be.
People with full bellies and a good job DON'T clamour for war, its mainly the have nots, who have nothing to lose in the first place!
Dokubo has a fleet of exotic vehicles, his followers are ALL ragtag riffraff, where's the correlation?

Thats where the real monkey dey work, baboon dey CHOP bigtime.
PoliticsRe: MEND Attacks Lagos by darqly(m): 8:55am On Jul 14, 2009
Who or what does MEND represent? I can't say that they are the voice of the niger-delta. Just a bunch of brigands with a D-I-Y manual on terrorism, theft and extortion.
I'm amused whenever their PRO issues those his press releases, laced with grandiose queen's english and poetry grin

MEND is a military problem, that requires a military solution. They steal crude to finance their operations and enrich their coffers, and blame the rest of Nigeria for their lack of initiative and penury.

With or without their antics, Nigeria's Oil production will and is dwindling. All the oil companies are jumping ship because its cheaper to operate in Angola, Sao Tome and even Ghana than to sponser mercenaries to wipe out the menace called MEND.
MEND has never enjoyed public support or sympathy, and these unwarranted attacks on the populace will attract only animosity and retribution on the entire clan that they claim to represent.

So they bring the whole nation to a standstill then what next? We all gather in the creeks and drink our crude to survive??
Our military is just all talk no action, I can't imagine the army command watching its personnel get whupped EVERY time: On Land, On Sea, what happens if MEND purchases a fairly used F-10? angry
MEND is criminal and is bad for Nigeria and Nigerians.

EducationRe: Why Is The English Language Skill Of Nigerian Graduate So Appalling? by darqly(m): 3:15pm On Jun 24, 2009
The poster made a valid point that is too true and applies to OUR generation and what do we do?? We justify ourselves and our shortcomings by nitpicking his own errors, which I daresay are common-place on this or any other forum.

At least on NL, I steal a few minutes from work to skim through and make contributions/replies so errors are a given sometimes, but for you to sit down and type or compose a CV or Resume, and still "SHELL" grin shows the height of unseriousness, negligence and outright illiteracy that you've probably descended to.

Call a spade a spade- MANY of our graduates CANNOT speak and/or write ENGLISH, the lingua franca.
That China has made super advancements and they don't speak english is not applicable in this case; If you had to work in CHINA, you'd have to learn CHINESE!

How can we then say we should learn in PIDGIN or lecture in PIDGIN in our schools? What hogwash. Who employs PIDGIN-speaking graduates EVEN in this NIGERIA??
If you must work in ANY ENGLISH-speaking nation or organization, it behoves you to do what? Learn the damn ENGLISH.

Nairaland is becoming increasingly populated with paranoia angry
See as we are pointing fingers and accusing every other tribe of being the owner of the ammo, thats why we're so full of HATE.

For pete's sake, every plane has a Flight Plan. The flight plan of this fokker indicates it was headed for Equitorial guinea. That it had a problem and diverted to Kano doesn't in any way lend credence to the fact that the arms were meant for MEND or HISBA or SEUN for that bloody matter!!

How about if it had landed in say Ibadan? Who would we accuse next as being the sole importer of the guns? Ladoja??

Wake up, see how bloody ignorant and nepotic the entire lot of u are cry

Jos seems de closest on the list for now, but like you said, how much time do I have to be picking and choosing. The thingy isn't so much painful as it is discomforting and its sending shock ripples thru my testicles, thats why I'm keen on getting rid of it ASAP.

Thanks a million.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Salary Of Contract Staff In First Bank? by darqly(m): 4:01pm On Jun 04, 2009
penfold:
@poster & amaqueen

Lol, when did u leave first abnk, that must have been ages ago!!!!

well the fact is that First Bank does not employ contract staff, even IT students are rarely given consideration, when they are they are posted to their area offices and not branches so the guy obviously is a 419!!!!!

anyway, just for information, entry level in First Bank is 114k!!!
Hate to burst ur bubble luv, but FBN has been taking contract staff as Transaction officers since last June or thereabouts. I personally trained a couple of them in my branch before I quit. The pay then was about 45k per month. And dat entry level pay you quoted is subject to location, so tell them as well.
