There is nothing new in Lagos that the Benin people haven't done before.
The People of Benin removed Ogiso Owodo the last of the Ogiso dynasty before the Oba dynasty was ushered in.
Oba Ohen was stoned to death by his own people for ordering the death of his iyase.
The people of Benin was said to have even abandoned their king and city for Oba Ewuakpe who had to sacrifice his wife to bring them back.
The people of Benin will always love and respect their king as long as the King treats them well. The kings of Benin understand that, they're nothing without the Edo people.
Nobody hypes our king than we do. Trust me, if you dare invade the oba palace, there will be so many bodies on the floor. I mean it, so many dead bodies, so just forget the idea.
ahmedajadi: Lol.. You think say everyone dey party like Nigerian people? Oyinbo no dey do giveaway the way we dey do ooo. Na just burial then go home. No party at all.
Nigerians have blown an opportunity that might take over a decade to present itself again. We should have cashed out when the fruits were ripe, but we allowed them to rot away on the trees.
This whole thing should have been suspended when SagaLink and Aisha called for it's suspension, but people with ulterior motives rejected such, saying neither Aisha or Saga had the right to call off the protests. Calling it off and sitting on a round table with government representatives was meant to be the next reasonable step to take, but that was never to be.
Tell me now, is there any chance of the government inviting people to a round table for any discussion or negotiation? Make very strong demands with a threat to taking back to the streets if theyre not met. I know there's a cardinal rule in life that says "it is best to negotiate from a position of strength". Now, does the protest still have the strength and credibility it had a week ago? Would people still take to the streets if protests are called today?
Now, the goodwill the people had for the protest has been lost, so much so that SagaLink and Aisha Yosufu are throwing subtle shades at each other.
So saddening.
I beg to disagree with some thing said here. The protest had its gains. First what it showed the Edo man was that he had so much power he never knew.
We tested that power in our election and confirmed it during the protest. We also made a point to the security operatives that things could always go sour for them. The aim of the protest was never regime change, people just wanted government to know that they weren't comfortable with the poverty the political class had put them in.
Government here has been talking to the youth since. Our speaker here is very young, below 40 or 45 I think. Obaseki has promised to put 60% of his government in the hands of youths.
For now the Edo youth would be going political. We are getting more engaged, we are bringing our heads out and we are making bold statements here.
Security operatives know fully well now that they have to talk or engage with the communities. I don't want to call these people hoodlums, they're the uneducated part of our society that are mostly jobless. That's why we in Benin are not blaming others for burning our police stations or the prison break.
We know our people, we will find way to address our people. They're part of society that we cannot just kill, we must engage them. They're not all hoodlums or hooligans
The Itsekiri are somehow like the Ikas. More Yoruba like people of Ilaje descent mixed with Urhobos and the Edos.
The Oba of Benin saw the Olu as a appendage of the Benin Monarchy. Although the former always felt like the big brother and father at the same time, the latter just wanted to carve a niche for itself.
The Oba was Lord of the Land The Olu was Lord of the seas
ahiboilandgas: Aisha yusuf from Edo,davido osun ,P square Anambra,Dj switch from imo ,burna boy rivers , trigger indigenous Lagosian to burn their city which is the most prosperous in Nigeria and gave them the platform to excel .......citizens protested and refused to be triggered to burn down here state cos of the long term effect on jobs and lively hood ......why didn't divido lead protect to burn down osun ,aisha edo psquare Anambra....or is SASR only in Lagos ......use your brains Lagos got 80 percent of all foriegn investment coming to Nigeria that why bus will charge 300 naira and people will pay ......Protest peacefully.....
"Hoodlums have hijacked the protest from us." You said protest is the right of every Nigerian. Hoodlums are Nigerians too. They are protesting the way they know how. Who are "us" you're referring to? Did you define yourselves or those eligible to join the protest? Was it not you calling everybody to join the struggle? Sowore even called the police to join them in the revolution. Hoodlums, who are also Nigerians with grievances now joined, and you said they hijacked it. What is hijack? Did they stop you from doing your own protest? Did they redefine what you want or change the 5 abi 17 points agenda? Part of your own agenda is to release your own fellow protesters arrested. Part of their own agenda is to release their friends that were in prison since (they also thought they were wrongly imprisoned, or no be only them be thieves). You had no leader, fixed group or coordination, and you called everybody to join you. Hoodlums now joined you, and you said they hijacked it from you.
Please stop the joke.
Let's even assume they've seized control of your own protest, you cannot take back control from ordinary hoodlums, and you want to take control of Nigeria from Buhari and the army? Are you dreaming?

Angelfrost: Will become volatile??! When has Edo not been volatile??!
I'm not surprised one bit about the way things turned out in Benin... I'm actually surprised people are surprised... I'm even more surprised and disappointed that the state leaders and security didn't easily envisage this and adequately prepare for it... That's a shame!!! Poor leadership!!!
Absolutely On Saturday Bus drivers were saying they were going to join the protest on Monday. I knew it was going to take a new twist. From on Saturday night onwards, roadblocks started appearing.
On Sunday it continued. Thugs took over everything and they were telling people not to move on Monday. Everybody who was outside on Saturday and Sunday would tell you that Monday was going to be an explosion
Am serious I know how I suffered just to leave Benin. I knew it was coming to this point. I have been in the city for two days and I know it was going to explode today. I had to leave
engrchykae: you were only important during the slave trade, your empire was built on blood,on slavery, since the abolition of slavery, where is your empire? When the time comes, none of our people will be lost.
Yes we know Empires rise and fall. The time for imperial glory has passed but you see that igbanke, just forget it
engrchykae: says who? Remember the invasion of the Midwest
Happened within few days and you guys left. We had no business with the war and we didn't see it as a tribal conflict. But let me remind you and your kind that nurse that idea, one inch of what is in Edo state won't go to you guys that's if we even allow you people come close to Agbor.
engrchykae: our brothers were separated from us and sold to benue,Edo. We want our brothers back. The igbanke in Edo and unuezeokoha in benue must be returned to us
End SARS Protest started in Benin on the 5th. Another one took place again on the 6th. I think Ughelli own was first before Edo. I don't know why people are making it look like a Lagos affair. Lagos started their protest late.
Delta/Edo started first But the people in Ogbomosho won my heart also.
Nothing really surprises me. I have had friends dissapoint me but do I care. This life I just believe that there are far greater opportunities out there. But one thing I don't know how to do is abandon people that I started life with. I always reach out to them no matter what.
