PoliticsKatsina Accuses Ex-gov Shema, Others Of Diverting N8.6bn by DAVECENA(op): 2:51am On Nov 15, 2016
The Katsina State Government has presented a memo before the Katsina State Judicial Commission of Inquiry alleging diversion of N8.6bn by the immediate past governor of the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema, and other top officials.
Counsel for the commission, Mr. Hassan Liman (SAN), stated this on Monday during the sitting of the commission.
Liman said the amount was diverted from the accounts of the Ministry of Environment, departments of Community Development, Special Duties, Girl-Child Education and Almajiri Affairs.
He explained that available records showed that the funds were allegedly diverted by the former governor and other government officials.
According to him, there was no evidence on how the funds were utilised during the period under review.
Liman, however, told the commission that the former governor had filed a case before the Court of Appeal, Kaduna, claiming an infringement of his fundamental human rights.
He asked the commission to adjourn the sitting pending the determination of the case.
In his ruling, the chairman of the commission, Justice Muhammad Surajo, adjourned the sitting indefinitely, saying that the commission would communicate a new date to all the parties involved.
The commission also adjourned the hearing of memo on the activities of the Katsina Road Maintenance Agency and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Department, pending the determination of the case before the Court of Appeal.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Governor Aminu Masari inaugurated the commission to investigate how some funds were mismanaged during Shema’s tenure and to advise the government accordingly.

Private Lawal Musa, a soldier attached to the Nigerian Army’s "Operation Delta Safe" in Calabar, has been kidnapped.
SaharaReporters learned that Musa was abducted by unknown persons on November 9, on his way to First Bank on Calabar Way in the city at about 9:30a.m.
The soldier is a member of the Nigerian Army Headquarters Boat Company at the 222 Battalion in Cross Rivers State.
A source in Army Headquarters said Private Musa took permission from the Commanding Officer to go to the bank but the CO became apprehensive after the soldier failed to return to the barracks. His phone had also been switched off for some time.
Persistent calls to his phone later yielded a response from one of his abductors who simply said, "Your guy is with us".
The army source did not disclose whether the kidnappers have demanded a ransom. The police and the Department of State Security are searching for the kidnapped soldier.

PoliticsN23bn Diezani Poll Cash: Umahi In Trouble by DAVECENA(op): 4:09am On Nov 12, 2016
THE Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, is in trouble with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The commission said last night it had discovered that Umahi collected the sum of N400 million allocated to the PDP in the state to compromise last year’s Presidential poll but he diverted the cash to two of his companies and used it to build two hotels in Port Harcourt and Abakiiki.

The commission has already arrested and questioned many suspects, including bank officials, who have made statements linking the governor and his companies.

EFCC sources said, “This case involving some chieftains of the PDP in Ebonyi State and some companies emanated from the alleged N23,2999,705,000, disbursed by the erstwhile Petroleum Resources Minister, Mrs Diezani Alison Madueke during the 2015 Presidential election out of which N400million was traced to Ebonyi State.

“In the State, Kelechi Igwe (incumbent Deputy Governor ), Fidelis Nwanwko and Ambassador Frank N. Ogbuewu collected the money to prosecute the 2015 general election.

“The duo of Fidelis Nwankwo and Ambassador Frank N. Ogbuewu were invited and they disclosed that they collected the N400million from Fidelity Bank and handed it over to Access Bank on the directive of the then Deputy Governor who is now the incumbent Governor, Engr. David Umahi. “The Operations Manager of Access Bank Abakaliki was invited and he revealed that the money was paid into the accounts of Osborn La-Palm Royal Resort Ltd and Brass Engineering & Construction Nig. Ltd. domiciled in Abakaliki.

“The statement of the accounts of the companies that were analysed disclosed that the sum of three N300million was paid into the account of Osborn La-Palm Royal Resort Ltd and N100 million into the account of Brass Engineering & Construction Nig. Ltd and subsequently withdrawn by Chinyere Egwuche.

“The movement of the fund from one account to another and the subsequent cash withdrawal of N300million in tranches of N50million are clear features of money laundering.

“The above companies were discovered to have been incorporated by the incumbent Governor of Eonyi State in 1993 and 2011 respectively.
“Consequently, letters of invitation were written to the Managing Directors of the companies where the money was paid but the letters were returned undelivered as the addressees refused to collect them.

“Thereafter, Austin Umahi, Maxwell Umahi, Chinyere Egwuche and Mabel Dikibo were arrested. Investigation revealed that Chinyere Egwuchu and Mabel Dikibo were the signatories to the account of the companies.

“It was also discovered that one of the suspects, Chinyere withdrew the N300million paid into the account of Osborn La-Palm which, according to her was used to further construction of Osborn La-Palm hotels in Abakaliki, Uburu and Port Harcourt, while the N100million paid into the account of Brass Engineering and Construction Nigeria Limited was transferred to a certain David Umahi Faith Foundation. They volunteered statement and were released on bail to reliable sureties.

“In furtherance of this investigation, the property belonging to the companies were identified and the Commission’s stickers “Under Investigation” were placed on them. However, legal machineries are being set in motion to seal the companies in case the suspects refused to wholly refund the monies that were fraudulently collected by them.”

In the meantime, the sum of N90million has been refunded. Investigation is still in progress,” a top EFCC official confirmed.

PoliticsTinubu Loyalists Stage Solidarity Walk Saturday by DAVECENA(op): 3:59am On Nov 12, 2016
A group called, ‘I Stand with Bola Tinubu’, says hundreds of loyalists of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, will stage a solidarity walk on Saturday (today) for the politician, who is allegedly being sidelined by some other chieftains of the party.
The group’s Media Team Chairman, Tijani Oluwadamilare, said even though a lot of things had yet to be put in place as the group had not been able to mobilise enough funds for the walk as expected, members of the group, as well as other participants, were ready for the walk because of their faith and love for Tinubu.
“Hundreds of people are ready to participate in the walk on Saturday (today). Although, I am not totally happy with what is happening at the moment, as we have not been able to raise enough funds as we had hoped. We all remain unshaken. Many of those we had hoped would render financial assistance to us are not forthcoming; most of them keep blaming (the) recession for their inability to provide financial assistance as earlier promised. But despite all these, we all look forward to having the walk tomorrow,” he said.
Tijani pointed out that the group had chosen to organise the loyalty walk to show solidarity and support for Tinubu, and to send a message to everyone concerned that never again would Yoruba people stand and watch any of their respected leaders being ridiculed.
“We all know what happened to past Yoruba leaders such as Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who were subjected to diverse forms of ridicule. We do not want this to happen again, especially not to the person of Tinubu who is a Yoruba leader now,” he said.

PoliticsPDP Searches For Alliance Ahead Of The 2019 Election by DAVECENA(op): 1:14am On Nov 09, 2016
The Peoples Democratic Party said in Abuja on Tuesday in Abuja that it was searching for alliances to enable it to regain power in 2019.
It said that there was no way its members would remain docile unlike members of other political parties who it said were busy meeting ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The Chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Makarfi, stated this while inaugurating the PDP’s Committee on Strategy Review and Inter-Party Affairs.
The committee, which is headed by a former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, also has a former Deputy Speaker, Mr. Austin Okpara, as secretary.
Makarfi, who said the membership of the committee was initially 85, said that more than 30 names were later added to it in order to cover the interest of other people.
Makarfi, who was apparently referring to the inability of the party to resolve its crisis with a faction of the party under the leadership of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, said the members of the party could no longer fold their arms and refuse to be active politically.
He said, “We do not begin by drawing conclusions but as life is dynamic, so is politics.
“You don’t remain docile and inactive; you don’t remain cornered so that you will be toyed around with at the whims of anybody.
“Long before now, we have talked about putting up a number of sub-committees to deal with different aspects of the affairs of our party, but because of litigation we have not settled down to do that.
“Time is going and a lot of things are happening, and our men and women, are on their own beginning to do all sorts of meetings.”
He insinuated that some members of the PDP in his faction were probably preparing to leave the party on their own, but said this should not be allowed to happen.
The former governor of Kaduna said, “However, if you don’t bring all your flocks together to talk as one family, before long, a good chunk of them would have gone on their own, because nobody will remain inactive for forever.
“After due consultation, we felt that time is now right to set up a committee, called the Strategy Review and Inter-party Affairs Committee.
“Strategy is how to come back to power in 2019 through every democratic means. Even as caretaker committee members, we are being approached by various groups and we felt that it is not the few of us that should be talking to these people.”
He said that the committee might seem large but added that its responsibilities were also huge.
He urged the members to break into sub- committees to enable them to talk to different groups and individuals.
Apart from this, he said it was the responsibility of the committee to advise the leadership on how to make the party stronger and better.
On the failed peace process in the party, he said the ongoing court cases involving the party and its faction needed to be cleared before peace could return to the former ruling party.
Apart from this, he also warned that, if this was not done, some elements in the party and outside it, could be used to derail its progress before the general elections.
Makarfi said that irrespective of the outcome of the moribund reconciliation, the PDP must reorganise and restrategise.
To do this, he urged members of the committee to engage all stakeholders “if you want to build a moving consensus to enable us to capture power in 2019.”
He gave the terms of reference to the committee as exploring strategies to engage all possible allies with a view to building positive relationship in furtherance of democracy in Nigeria.
The committee is also to recommend strategies to re-position the party and suggest necessary amendment to its constitution.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jubril, said that he was happy that 30 members of the board were included in the committee.
In his response, Gana said that the committee, which has three months within which to turn up its reports, would work tirelessly to meet the target.

PoliticsAnxiety Over Kogi Gov’s Whereabouts by DAVECENA(op): 2:40am On Nov 07, 2016
There was anxiety in Kogi State on Sunday following the non-appearance of Governor Yahaya Bello in public in the last two weeks.
Sources said the governor might have been flown abroad to treat an undisclosed ailment.
All state functions have been put on hold leaving the Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba, with only the duty of receiving visitors on behalf of his boss.
However, the governor’s spokesman, Kingsley Fanwo, has denied that the governor is nursing any ailment.
In a statement issued on Sunday night, Fanwo urged the public to discountenance “the rumour,” describing it as lacking any iota of truth.
“My attention has been drawn to the spurious rumour that there are concerns over the health of the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
“I want to state clearly here for the avoidance of doubt that the rumour lacks any iota of truth. It is a reflection of the depth the enemies of Kogi State have gone in their desperate angst against fate.
Fanwo added, “The governor is hale and hearty, healthy and unwavering in his vigour to make Kogi State the Confluence of Excellence.
“I urge all Kogites of goodwill to discountenance the rumour as His Excellency will return from his two weeks break on the 12th of November, 2016.”

PoliticsEFCC Probe Links Obanikoro To Diezani Poll Cash by DAVECENA(op): 2:32am On Nov 07, 2016
A former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has been fingered in a new N400m scam, The PUNCH has learnt.

Impeccable sources in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission told our correspondent on Sunday that Obanikoro, who was released last Friday, might be invited again soon to explain his alleged role in the scam.

The ex-minister, who returned from the United States on October 17, spent three weeks at the Abuja office of the EFCC for allegedly receiving N4.7bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser and distributing over N3bn to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and Senator Iyiola Omisore, who were the governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti and Osun states respectively in 2014.

Obanikoro subsequently returned N100m to the EFCC with a promise to return another N480m.

His American and Nigerian passports were subsequently seized before his release last Friday.

An EFCC detective on Sunday told our correspondent that recent investigations showed that Obanikoro allegedly received N400m from a former Minister of Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman, who was the Director of Finance of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation during the build-up to the 2015 elections.

The source said sometime in 2015, Usman sent the money to Obanikoro through a proxy.

The detective said, “As part of investigations into the billions disbursed by Nenadi Usman during the build-up to the 2015 elections, we interrogated a suspect at our office. The suspect told us that he handed over N400m to Obanikoro in the presence of some PDP members.

“So, Obanikoro will be invited to the Lagos office of the EFCC to tell his own side of the story.”

The EFCC had alleged in March that about N3.145bn was mysteriously transferred from the account of the ONSA, domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria, to the account of Joint Trust Dimensions Limited, a company allegedly owned by Usman.

Usman was said to have transferred N840m to the account of the Director of Publicity of the organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, in Zenith Bank on February 19, 2015, while she allegedly gave a former finance minister, Chief Olu Falae, N100m on the instruction of a PDP stalwart, Chief Anthony Anenih.

A former Governor of Imo State, Achike Udenwa, and a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Viola Onwuliri, according to the documents, got N350m in two tranches.

The first tranche of N150m was allegedly paid into their joint account with Zenith Bank on January 13, 2015. The second tranche of N200m was credited into their account with Diamond bank.

Usman and Fani-Kayode have since been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos and their accounts frozen while Udenwa and Falae may be arraigned soon.

Apart from the ONSA fund, Usman allegedly disbursed a separate N23bn to various states during the build-up to the elections.

The money Usman disbursed allegedly emanated from a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The money, which was $115m but converted to N23bn, was alleged to have been kickbacks from some dubious oil contractors involved in oil theft.

The EFCC has, so far, grilled about 16 former governors and ministers over the alleged N23bn Diezani sleaze.

Some of them include the immediate past Governor of Kebbi State, Saidu Dakin Garin; former Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State; former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano State; former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno State; former Governor James Ngilari of Adamawa State; and a former Governor of Zamfara State, Mamuda Shinkafi.

Among the others are a former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke; a former Minister of State for FCT, Jumoke Akinjide; and a former Minister of State for Finance, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda.

During the elections, each state was said to have received at least N450m from the fund, which was handled by ministers or governors, who were members of the PDP.

All attempts to speak with Obanikoro’s media aide, Jonathan Eze, proved abortive on Sunday

as his phone indicated that it was switched off.

A source close to Obanikoro, however, told our correspondent that the ex-minister was not in charge of former President’s Goodluck Jonathan’s Lagos campaign and therefore could not have received such money.

He said, “I am aware that the EFCC has interrogated the person who collected money for the Jonathan campaign organisation. However, Senator Obanikoro never collected N400m from him.

“Those who collected money at Federal Palace Hotel know themselves and they should please leave Senator Obanikoro out of it.”

PoliticsFG Rules Out Online Application For Poor, Most Vulnerable Nigerians by DAVECENA(op): 3:42am On Nov 04, 2016
The Federal Government on Thursday ruled out the need for the poorest and vulnerable Nigerians to apply online before they can benefit from the monthly N5,000 Conditional Cash Transfer.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s media office.
The statement was responding to some misleading reports in the media regarding the implementation of the N500 billion Social Investment Programmes of the Buhari administration.

It reads: “While we understand the need for an ongoing public discussion of this unprecedented budgetary allocation in favor of the Nigerian people especially the poorest and the most vulnerable, it is not correct to claim any form of mismanagement or marginalization whatsoever.”
“There has not been any disbursement from the allocated fund not to talk of any kind of mismanagement at all. While it is true that funds are being released for the social investment programmes, it is rather preposterous for now to say there is no evidence where the funds have gone to.

“As an administration noted for its transparency, we intend to fully keep Nigerians posted on all financial expenditure in line with extant laws of the country.

“Of the series of social investment programmes we have outlined, only the job creation scheme-N-Power requires an online registration from unemployed graduates and non-graduate youths.”

But the statement justified the requirement for online registration for the hiring of 500,000 unemployed graduates.

“It is important to explain, again, for the benefit of clarity, that the requirement for online application for the N-Power job scheme makes absolute sense considering that all together the Federal Government is planning to hire half a million unemployed Nigerian graduates.”

“We are all witnesses to the calamity that occurred in the past when a manual effort was made to hire large number of Nigerian youths. It led to needless deaths and outright chaos.” It added.

On the allegation that Borno State is not online and the people of the state will be discriminated against in the N-Power process, the statement, said such a claim simply flies in the face of the fact.

It added: “Almost 15,000 Nigerians from Borno State applied in the first application series of N-Power schemes online.

“It is also not tenable to argue that people in Maiduguri for instance which today plays hosts to tonnes of international NGOs cannot apply online or are denied internet access.”

The statement disclosed that the selection process for the first batch of 200,000 Nigerians to be engaged in the N-Power process has now been completed, and that their official engagement is now awaiting the completion of BVN verification so that they would be paid directly.

On how the selection was done, the statement said “Presidency officials collaborated actively with the Ministries of Agriculture & Natural Resources, Health and other government agencies all through the process. There were no foreign consultants involved, nor is one needed.”
It added that selection of the first 200,000, were based on three criteria including 40% selected based on the number of applications per state, a special mark-up for the 6 states of the Northeast and a discretionary addition for states with low numbers of applicants.

PoliticsAPC C’ttee Recommends Suspension, Expulsion Of Timi Frank by DAVECENA(op): 3:25am On Nov 04, 2016
ABUJA—TRUE to the predictions of many political analysts, the disciplinary committee set up by the All Progressives Congress, APC, to examine a petition against the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Timi Frank, yesterday submitted its report, recommending the suspension and subsequent expulsion of Mr Frank from the party.
The Solomon Edoja-led five-man committee was recently constituted by the South-South zonal Vice Chairman of the party, Hilliard Etta, to investigate a petition written by a member of the party from Akwa Ibom State, Mr Aniekan Akpabio. The petitioner had accused Mr Frank of making disparaging comments against the party in the media.
Just before the committee began its sittings, Mr Frank had indicated that he would not appear before a “kangaroo panel”.
“Some people cannot continue to oppress us. I want to make it very clear, I will not appear before any kangaroo committee because I do not know them. That is not to say that I do not respect party processes but I can only attend to a committee set up by responsible people.
“How can I go to a committee that will take their report to Oyegun to decide my fate? If tomorrow I do not go and they submit their report to Oyegun and then he suspends me, then that is the beginning of the struggle”, Frank had said.
However, submitting its report to the zonal executive of the party in Abuja, the committee said while the petitioner appeared before it, Frank never honoured its invitation.
In its report sighted by Vanguard, the committee said it was not a Father Christmas and so had no option than to rely on the claims of the petitioner to arrive at its recommendations.
While it recommended that Frank be suspended forthwith, the committee also asked the zonal executive committee to recommend the expulsion of Mr Frank to the National Executive Committee.

PoliticsAPC Hasn’t Managed Victory Well – OKOROCHA by DAVECENA(op): 4:38am On Nov 03, 2016
ABUJA—CHAIRMAN of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, yesterday, said the party has not managed properly, its victory as there were hunger and serious hardship in the country.
Governor Okorocha, who was at the National Assembly to mediate peace between the President Muhammadu Buhari-led executive and the legislature, which have been having frosty relationship, stated that there was anger among members of the ruling party, the APC.
He said that in the next few weeks, President Buhari will be bringing the members of the party together to ensure amicable resolution of the problem threatening to tear the party apart and promised that the party will soon be rebranded.
This came as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara said that the party will not afford to fail the people that voted them into power, even as he said the legislators are loyal party members.
Okorocha said: “As you can see, this is my very first time coming to the office of the Speaker. I have come here to look at issues as it affects our nation, our party in particular. I have been to the national office of our party and I have had meeting with the national working committee.
“I have also visited the Senate, where we also had deliberations and I am here with the leadership of the House where we have also deliberated on a lot of issues on how to move our nation forward and how to move our party forward.
“Today we are proud to say APC is not an opposition party, it is the ruling party of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“This victory of ours is very dear to us, but we are concerned that our victory so far has not been properly managed due to anger, bitterness among the members of our party at different levels and at different cadres.
“This calls for concern and that is why we are trying to bridge the gap to close ranks on how to unite, provide governance, leadership to our people, Nigerians and also move our party forward.
“It is true that our nation is going through difficult times, but with unity of purpose, we shall overcome. There have been so many complaints and distrusts, confusion and we have resolved as a people, as governors, as senators as federal House members, as national working committee members to come together and resolve these issues once and for all.
“The president will be talking to the party and the leadership very soon on this matter. Nigerians expect so much from us and at the end of it all, nigerians will not ask us how far have you dealt with each other, but they will ask us how much food have we put on the table of the common man…?”

PoliticsHold FG Responsible For Failed Federal Roads In Delta —DTHA by DAVECENA(op): 6:15am On Nov 02, 2016
ASABA—DELTA State House of Assembly has told the people of the state to stop blaming Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the terrible conditions of virtually all the federal roads in the state, saying the Federal Government should be held responsible.

Speaking through the Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Environment, Oil and Gas, Mr Daniel Yingi, the Assembly, said it was sad to hear people blame Governor Okowa for the disrepair of federal roads in the state instead of the Federal Government, describing it as a sad commentary.

According to Yingi who represents Burutu Constituency 1, “I want to use this opportunity to let Deltans know that most of these roads, including Sapele-Abraka-Agbor Road, Benin-Sapele-Warri Road, Asaba-Illah-Uromi Road and many others that are in very bad shape, are federal roads not state roads. So, all the blame should be heaped at the door steps of the Federal Government and not the state. The people should not judge our performance by the failure of the federal government. I feel very bad when I hear people ask Okowa what is doing on these roads.”

Christianity EtcHalloween And Africa’s Mad Rush To Conform – Reno by DAVECENA(op): 5:28am On Nov 02, 2016
Romans 12:2 says “do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed”. When, as a Christ follower, you celebrate Halloween, what do you think you are doing? You are conforming!
Growing up as a child in Africa in the 80s we knew nothing about Halloween, but today Africans want to celebrate Halloween and wear our costumes in our mad rush to conform to anything from America and Europe without caring about its origins.
Halloween is harmless you might say. Really? A day to wear scary costumes designed for the purpose of eliciting fear is harmless?
Hebrews 11:6 says “without faith it is impossible to please God”. The opposite is true-without fear it is impossible to please satan!
Why do you think the first thing angels tell humans when they manifest in their presence is ‘fear not’? You can read it all over Scripture in Luke 2:10, Isaiah 41:10 and Luke 1:30.
Fear is a satanic tool and without fear satan is powerless to harm you. That is the reason why he has promoted this profane celebration called Halloween all over the world.
1 John 4:18 says:
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
In fact, Halloween, just like Christmas, is a successful attempt to Christianize a previously pagan festival known as Samhain. The reasoning behind this passing off of Samhain as Halloween is that as Europe surrendered to Christendom (a completely different phenomenon not to be mistaken for Christianity or Christ follower-ship), it became necessary in the eyes of the various kingdoms of Europe that merged with the Holy Roman Catholic Church to Christianize their pagan holidays and bring about a Catholic (the word just means universal) or acceptable holiday.
Thus Samhain became known as Halloween, the pagan celebration of the Winter Solstice known as Yule (hence the term Yuletide) became Christmas and the celebration of the goddess named Ēostre, became Easter.
In truth, whether called by their original pagan names or their new Christendom names, none of these festivals appear in the Bible (the King James Version translates Passover as Easter in Acts 12:4, but all other translations reject that and left it how the original Greek Scriptures described it-Passover).
Modern day Halloween originated from America and now every Tom, Dick and Harry is into it. Thanksgiving also originated from America. Why aren’t people all over the world participating in Thanksgiving?
Sure, they can say ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ but unlike Halloween, do they go out of their way to perform the rituals of Thanksgiving that require preparing a solemn meal to eat with family as friends and list out all that you are thankful to God about?
Of cause not!
So why the disparity? The disparity lies in this verse from 1 John 5:19:
“We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.”
And to those who would say Thanksgiving is not in the Bible, I would urge them to read and reread Ephesians 5:20 and 1 Thessalonians 5:18:
“Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
My message to Africans is that not everything the West does should be blindly copied hook, line and sinker.
Never make the mistake of thinking that Christianity has more of a Western or European origin than it does an African one.
Before there were Christians in Europe, there were Christians in Africa. The first non Israelite Christian was not Cornelius the centurion. The first non Israelite Christian was the Ethiopian Eunuch of Acts chapter 8.
That man took Christianity back to Ethiopia and their kings and citizens became Christian such that by 613 AD when M uslims fled from the persecution of the ruling Quraysh tribe of Mecca, they went to Ethiopia in Africa and were giving asylum by the Christian King Negus of Ethiopia who cited their belief in Isa (Jesus) as the reason he gave them asylum (Though they believe that Nabi Isa is a Prophet of God not His Son).
So know for certain that Christianity and even Judaism have strong African roots. Not only is Cush (old name for Black Africa) the First Nation mentioned in the Bible (Genesis 2:13) but Moses was married to a Black African woman (Numbers 12:1) whose Father taught Moses much of what he knew (Exodus 18:17-24).
So as Africans, you have a strong and deep history and culture. You do not need Halloween. You have enough within your culture that you can celebrate without alienating yourself from God.
There is nothing polished or classy about celebrating Halloween. If we as Africans like to celebrate then we have New Yam Festivals, Durbars, Harvests and coronations we can celebrate.
I remember as a child, on moon light evenings I would sit with my siblings, cousins and neighbors and an adult would share stories about tortoise and other African tales with us. We no longer do this because we are now ‘polished.’ So, instead of teaching our kids such innocent fun, we teach them to serve satan in the name of Halloween because that is what they do in America!

PoliticsNo Hike In Fuel Pump Price— Kachikwu by DAVECENA(op): 5:12am On Nov 02, 2016
ABUJA—The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has dismissed insinuations of any increment in the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, popularly called petrol.
The dismissal came on the heels of widespread panic in Abuja yesterday that major petrol stations, including the retail outlets of the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation, NNPC, had jerked up their pump prices from the official N145 to N149 per litre.
Kachikwu, who was approached by our reporter at the end of a meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the leaders of Niger Delta at the presidential Villa, Abuja, said government had not announced any change in pump prices.
“Have you heard me announce any increment? Wait until you hear from my mouth,” he said.

Jobs/VacanciesSenate Lifts Suspension On Police Recruitment by DAVECENA(op): 6:15am On Nov 01, 2016
The recruitment of 10,000 personnel into the Nigeria Police will now continue as the Senate has lifted its suspension on the exercise.
The new condition is that the new policemen will be employed based on their local government areas and would be deployed in their communities.
The recruitment was suspended following a clash between the Senate and the Police Service Commission.
The Senate had, in a letter four weeks ago, asked the PSC to suspend the recruitment over alleged irregularities in the criteria adopted.
The lawmakers had asked that the recruitment be done on local government but the PSC insisted that it should be done on state basis.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abu Ibrahim (APC, Katsina-South), however, told journalists in Abuja on Monday that the commission could now continue with the recruitment.
Ibrahim announced that the clash between the Senate and the PSC had been resolved.
“We have resolved the issue and the recruitment would be done on local government basis. Very soon, the exercise will resume,” he said.
The lawmaker stated that the new intakes would form the foundation for the commencement of community policing in the country.
He said, “Nine personnel would be recruited per local government area. The policemen would be used to form a unit for community policing in all the 774 local government areas of the country.”
