Politics / APC Hasn’t Managed Victory Well – OKOROCHA by DAVECENA(m): 4:38am On Nov 03, 2016
ABUJA—CHAIRMAN of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, yesterday, said the party has not managed properly, its victory as there were hunger and serious hardship in the country.
Governor Okorocha, who was at the National Assembly to mediate peace between the President Muhammadu Buhari-led executive and the legislature, which have been having frosty relationship, stated that there was anger among members of the ruling party, the APC.
He said that in the next few weeks, President Buhari will be bringing the members of the party together to ensure amicable resolution of the problem threatening to tear the party apart and promised that the party will soon be rebranded.
This came as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara said that the party will not afford to fail the people that voted them into power, even as he said the legislators are loyal party members.
Okorocha said: “As you can see, this is my very first time coming to the office of the Speaker. I have come here to look at issues as it affects our nation, our party in particular. I have been to the national office of our party and I have had meeting with the national working committee.
“I have also visited the Senate, where we also had deliberations and I am here with the leadership of the House where we have also deliberated on a lot of issues on how to move our nation forward and how to move our party forward.
“Today we are proud to say APC is not an opposition party, it is the ruling party of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“This victory of ours is very dear to us, but we are concerned that our victory so far has not been properly managed due to anger, bitterness among the members of our party at different levels and at different cadres.
“This calls for concern and that is why we are trying to bridge the gap to close ranks on how to unite, provide governance, leadership to our people, Nigerians and also move our party forward.
“It is true that our nation is going through difficult times, but with unity of purpose, we shall overcome. There have been so many complaints and distrusts, confusion and we have resolved as a people, as governors, as senators as federal House members, as national working committee members to come together and resolve these issues once and for all.
“The president will be talking to the party and the leadership very soon on this matter. Nigerians expect so much from us and at the end of it all, nigerians will not ask us how far have you dealt with each other, but they will ask us how much food have we put on the table of the common man…?”

Politics / Hold FG Responsible For Failed Federal Roads In Delta —DTHA by DAVECENA(m): 6:15am On Nov 02, 2016
ASABA—DELTA State House of Assembly has told the people of the state to stop blaming Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the terrible conditions of virtually all the federal roads in the state, saying the Federal Government should be held responsible.

Speaking through the Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Environment, Oil and Gas, Mr Daniel Yingi, the Assembly, said it was sad to hear people blame Governor Okowa for the disrepair of federal roads in the state instead of the Federal Government, describing it as a sad commentary.

According to Yingi who represents Burutu Constituency 1, “I want to use this opportunity to let Deltans know that most of these roads, including Sapele-Abraka-Agbor Road, Benin-Sapele-Warri Road, Asaba-Illah-Uromi Road and many others that are in very bad shape, are federal roads not state roads. So, all the blame should be heaped at the door steps of the Federal Government and not the state. The people should not judge our performance by the failure of the federal government. I feel very bad when I hear people ask Okowa what is doing on these roads.”

Religion / Halloween And Africa’s Mad Rush To Conform – Reno by DAVECENA(m): 5:28am On Nov 02, 2016
Romans 12:2 says “do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed”. When, as a Christ follower, you celebrate Halloween, what do you think you are doing? You are conforming!
Growing up as a child in Africa in the 80s we knew nothing about Halloween, but today Africans want to celebrate Halloween and wear our costumes in our mad rush to conform to anything from America and Europe without caring about its origins.
Halloween is harmless you might say. Really? A day to wear scary costumes designed for the purpose of eliciting fear is harmless?
Hebrews 11:6 says “without faith it is impossible to please God”. The opposite is true-without fear it is impossible to please satan!
Why do you think the first thing angels tell humans when they manifest in their presence is ‘fear not’? You can read it all over Scripture in Luke 2:10, Isaiah 41:10 and Luke 1:30.
Fear is a satanic tool and without fear satan is powerless to harm you. That is the reason why he has promoted this profane celebration called Halloween all over the world.
1 John 4:18 says:
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
In fact, Halloween, just like Christmas, is a successful attempt to Christianize a previously pagan festival known as Samhain. The reasoning behind this passing off of Samhain as Halloween is that as Europe surrendered to Christendom (a completely different phenomenon not to be mistaken for Christianity or Christ follower-ship), it became necessary in the eyes of the various kingdoms of Europe that merged with the Holy Roman Catholic Church to Christianize their pagan holidays and bring about a Catholic (the word just means universal) or acceptable holiday.
Thus Samhain became known as Halloween, the pagan celebration of the Winter Solstice known as Yule (hence the term Yuletide) became Christmas and the celebration of the goddess named Ēostre, became Easter.
In truth, whether called by their original pagan names or their new Christendom names, none of these festivals appear in the Bible (the King James Version translates Passover as Easter in Acts 12:4, but all other translations reject that and left it how the original Greek Scriptures described it-Passover).
Modern day Halloween originated from America and now every Tom, Dick and Harry is into it. Thanksgiving also originated from America. Why aren’t people all over the world participating in Thanksgiving?
Sure, they can say ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ but unlike Halloween, do they go out of their way to perform the rituals of Thanksgiving that require preparing a solemn meal to eat with family as friends and list out all that you are thankful to God about?
Of cause not!
So why the disparity? The disparity lies in this verse from 1 John 5:19:
“We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.”
And to those who would say Thanksgiving is not in the Bible, I would urge them to read and reread Ephesians 5:20 and 1 Thessalonians 5:18:
“Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
My message to Africans is that not everything the West does should be blindly copied hook, line and sinker.
Never make the mistake of thinking that Christianity has more of a Western or European origin than it does an African one.
Before there were Christians in Europe, there were Christians in Africa. The first non Israelite Christian was not Cornelius the centurion. The first non Israelite Christian was the Ethiopian Eunuch of Acts chapter 8.
That man took Christianity back to Ethiopia and their kings and citizens became Christian such that by 613 AD when M uslims fled from the persecution of the ruling Quraysh tribe of Mecca, they went to Ethiopia in Africa and were giving asylum by the Christian King Negus of Ethiopia who cited their belief in Isa (Jesus) as the reason he gave them asylum (Though they believe that Nabi Isa is a Prophet of God not His Son).
So know for certain that Christianity and even Judaism have strong African roots. Not only is Cush (old name for Black Africa) the First Nation mentioned in the Bible (Genesis 2:13) but Moses was married to a Black African woman (Numbers 12:1) whose Father taught Moses much of what he knew (Exodus 18:17-24).
So as Africans, you have a strong and deep history and culture. You do not need Halloween. You have enough within your culture that you can celebrate without alienating yourself from God.
There is nothing polished or classy about celebrating Halloween. If we as Africans like to celebrate then we have New Yam Festivals, Durbars, Harvests and coronations we can celebrate.
I remember as a child, on moon light evenings I would sit with my siblings, cousins and neighbors and an adult would share stories about tortoise and other African tales with us. We no longer do this because we are now ‘polished.’ So, instead of teaching our kids such innocent fun, we teach them to serve satan in the name of Halloween because that is what they do in America!

Politics / No Hike In Fuel Pump Price— Kachikwu by DAVECENA(m): 5:12am On Nov 02, 2016
ABUJA—The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has dismissed insinuations of any increment in the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, popularly called petrol.
The dismissal came on the heels of widespread panic in Abuja yesterday that major petrol stations, including the retail outlets of the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation, NNPC, had jerked up their pump prices from the official N145 to N149 per litre.
Kachikwu, who was approached by our reporter at the end of a meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the leaders of Niger Delta at the presidential Villa, Abuja, said government had not announced any change in pump prices.
“Have you heard me announce any increment? Wait until you hear from my mouth,” he said.

Jobs/Vacancies / Senate Lifts Suspension On Police Recruitment by DAVECENA(m): 6:15am On Nov 01, 2016
The recruitment of 10,000 personnel into the Nigeria Police will now continue as the Senate has lifted its suspension on the exercise.
The new condition is that the new policemen will be employed based on their local government areas and would be deployed in their communities.
The recruitment was suspended following a clash between the Senate and the Police Service Commission.
The Senate had, in a letter four weeks ago, asked the PSC to suspend the recruitment over alleged irregularities in the criteria adopted.
The lawmakers had asked that the recruitment be done on local government but the PSC insisted that it should be done on state basis.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abu Ibrahim (APC, Katsina-South), however, told journalists in Abuja on Monday that the commission could now continue with the recruitment.
Ibrahim announced that the clash between the Senate and the PSC had been resolved.
“We have resolved the issue and the recruitment would be done on local government basis. Very soon, the exercise will resume,” he said.
The lawmaker stated that the new intakes would form the foundation for the commencement of community policing in the country.
He said, “Nine personnel would be recruited per local government area. The policemen would be used to form a unit for community policing in all the 774 local government areas of the country.”

Politics / I’ll Beat Ibrahim, Jegede Combined, Akeredolu Boasts by DAVECENA(m): 6:05am On Nov 01, 2016
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), on Monday boasted that if the two factional candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Jimoh Ibrahim and Eyitayo Jegede, combined forces and contested against him, he would emerge victorious at the poll.
Akeredolu said this in an interview with State House correspondents shortly after the Chairman of the APC Governorship Campaign in the state, Mr. Solomon Lalong, led him to a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
When told that he must be happy contesting against Jimoh than facing Jegede who had the backing of the state Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, the APC candidate said he was not scared of any of them.
He said he would be happier if Jimoh and Jegede could hold a joint ticket and confront him.
“I can assure you that I would have been happier facing both of them together. If Eyitayo Jegede was chosen as the candidate and Ibrahim as his deputy, I will still win.
“In fact, Jegede happens to be a friend and Ibrahim too. Jimoh Ibrahim went to Ife, so we have known ourselves for long. I have no fear about both of them. We know that we are going to win this election and I have no doubt about it,” Akeredolu boasted.
When asked if he had settled his rift with a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the candidate said there was no rift.
He claimed Tinubu had accepted the result of the primary that produced him as the candidate.
Akeredolu said, “I don’t have any rift with him (Tinubu). Since the primary, you would see that as the leader of the party, he has not said anything about it.
“He has accepted the primary and we are moving on. So, I don’t have any rift with him at all and we are moving on.”
On the protest being embarked upon by the PDP members over Jimoh’s recognition as the party’s candidate, Akeredolu said the position of the APC was that security agencies should not allow miscreants to take over.
He insisted that the PDP’s internal problem should not lead to demonstration outside, saying protesters were paid to do so.
Lalong, who is the Plateau State Governor, on his part urged Mimiko to stop bothering Buhari about the PDP problem.
He said, “Let me say it was even wrong for them to start running to Mr. President to help them solve the problem of the PDP in their party.
“Mr. President is the President of Nigeria and he is not a member of the PDP, even when we have problems in the APC we don’t run to Mr. President.”

Politics / APC Faults Mimiko’s Visit To Buhari by DAVECENA(m): 3:07am On Oct 31, 2016
THE APC in Ondo State has picked holes in the visit of the governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko to President Muhamadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, confirmed Jimoh Ibrahim as the party’s governorship candidate.

In a statement by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, the party said “the mission of Governor Mimiko to Mr. President, on the crisis rocking the Ondo PDP over the party’s governorship candidature, “Has Governor Mimiko gone to complain to President Buhari as the leader of PDP? Now, if he has gone to complain to the President what does he(Mimiko) want the President to do against the (INEC) and the Courts that ordered INEC to recognize Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim as the authentic PDP governorship candidate in the 2016 November 26th election?
“Is Governor Mimiko portraying that the President is the one directing and controlling INEC and Courts by going to report to him?
“When has the President become the appellate Court to the High Court, that he (Mimiko) has to report to him, on a matter already ruled-on and decided by court of competent jurisdiction?.
“If, Governor Mimiko, as the Chief Security Officer of the State, has gone to the President on security matters, is he (Mimiko) saying the entire Ondo State Police Command, Department of State Security (DSS), National Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and the Military Command in the State cannot curtail the crisis?
“Is it not shameful, Mr. Governor that, you being the leader of PDP in Ondo State, and the Chairman PDP Governors’ Forum in Nigeria, cannot abate little misunderstanding in the State chapter of his party? We advice you take a queue and learn from Ondo APC in party management.
Meanwhile, the party said that President Muhammadu Buhari would on November 3, launch the campaign rally of its governorship candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN.

The party added that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, National Chairman of the party, John Oyegun; a National Leader of the party, Bola Tinubu; the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives as well as APC state governors, would be present.

Adesanya said that a 30-man Local Organizing Committee for the campaign has been inaugurated and is chaired by the deputy governorship candidate of the party, Agboola Ajayi.

Politics / Ekweremadu Storms EFCC For Obanikoro, Bala, Abati, Fani-kayode by DAVECENA(m): 6:42am On Oct 28, 2016
Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, yesterday, paid a solidarity visit to four key officials of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP., who are being detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged graft running into billions of Naira.

The four men-Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Senator Bala Mohammed, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode and Dr. Reuben Abati, were taken into custody by EFCC at different times but were united in the cell by the common platform of their party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Reuben Abati served as President Goodluck Jonathan’s Media Adviser, while Fani-Kayode worked towards the end of Jonathan’s tenure as the Spokesman for his Presidential Campaign Organisation.

On the other hand, Obanikoro and Bala Mohammed served as Minister of State for Defence and Federal Capital Territory respectively and ended their tenure about two years ago.

But they were hauled to the EFCC on various allegations bordering on mismanagement of public funds, particularly the $2.1 billion cash for the purchase of arms to fight insurgency in the North East.

Obanikoro is linked with the N4.7 billion allegedly traced to firms close to him but he has already spoken out on how he paid the money out to Governor Ayo Fayose and former Osun Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore, but it is not clear why the EFCC is still keeping him.

On the other hand, Mohammed is alleged to have awarded contracts worth N8 billion to fronts and also abused a major land swap deal valued at about N1 trillion.

Fani-Kayode and Abati are linked with collecting funds from the ONSA for undisclosed reasons.
But the EFCC confirmed last night that it has granted what it called ‘Administrative Bail” to Abati on conditions that he drops his International Passport and produces a surety of not below the rank of deputy director in the civil service.

A top source in the commission who confirmed the development, however said that the former presidential aide was yet to meet the bail conditions.

“We will continue to keep Abati until he meets the bail terms,” the source told Vanguard.
It was also learnt that while Abati was preparing to meet his bail conditions and return home, the commission had earlier in the day secured a court warrant to further detain Mr. Mohammed for undisclosed number of days.

The source hinted that since his arrival, Mohammed had not given sufficient information relating to the issues he is being accused of and that the commission needed more time to interact with him.

“We have obtained a new warrant to keep Bala Mohammed because we are not yet through with investigating the issues related to him,” the source hinted.

Before then, at around 5 pm yesterday, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, one of the highest elected PDP leaders in the country, visited the four men at the EFCC headquarters to identify with them.

Findings by Vanguard showed that the DSP was received on arrival at the EFCC premises by the EFCC’s Deputy Director, Operations, Umar Abbasm who also took him round.

According to sources close to the visit, Ekweremadu enjoined the four detainees to be of good cheer and to take their ordeal as a leadership challenge that would embolden them as servants of the people.

“I urge you all to be of good cheer and to keep your spirit high because what is happening to you today happened to our great leaders like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and other top Nigerians who stood for the good of the people of Nigeria,” Ekweremadu told the four men.

Politics / Major, Captain, Others Held For Leaking Information To Boko Haram by DAVECENA(m): 4:46am On Oct 27, 2016
The Nigerian Army is holding two officers – a major and a captain – in connection with alleged sabotage of the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the North-East.

A military source said on Wednesday that the Army authorities were intensifying efforts to rid the service of saboteurs in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

It was gathered that the Army commenced a painstaking but discreet investigations into the activities of some of its personnel following the Boko Haram attack on troops’ location in Gashigar, on October 22, 2016.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, had said in a statement on Saturday that 13 soldiers were wounded during a surprise Boko Haram attack on troops at Gashigar in the north of Borno State.

Usman had stated that some soldiers were missing after the attack.

The statement did not give the exact number of those missing during the Gashigar attack.

It was learnt that both President Mohammadu Buhari and the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, were alarmed by the Gashigar attack, which involved an entire unit.

It was gathered that the Army authorities decided to conduct a discreet investigation into the telephone conversation of some of the security personnel and their civilian counterparts and uncovered some suspicious activities through the screening.

A military source said on Wednesday that the Army was intensifying investigation to unravel two established cases against the arrested suspects, which were the leakage of information on troops’ movement to the insurgents and the raising of funds to finance Boko Haram operations through cattle rustling.

The source added, “The President was furious and discussed the matter with the COAS when some of the heads of that units were ambushed by the Boko Haram.

“The Army leadership took out time to screen the communications lines of the officers for several days without making it known.

“The suspicion was that they have links with some civilians and the links were traced. They are giving them vital information concerning the movement of soldiers.

“How come that the Borno State Governor and other officials have not been attacked, yet they ambushed the Chief of Army Staff. They have not attacked civilians but they attacked the COAS.”

When our correspondent contacted the Acting Army spokesman, he said investigation into the matter was ongoing.

He added that the Army would not release information on the matter in view of the fact that there was an ongoing planned rescue operation in the area.

He said, “Investigation is ongoing and once we conclude, the suspects would be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.”

Usman, who denied reports that 83 soldiers were missing in action, said the military did not lose any soldier to the Gashigar attack.

He, however, stated that the military suspects would be subject to military laws in accordance with the law.

Usman had said in a statement on Tuesday that a total of 32 persons, comprising two military officers, two soldiers, two policemen and 26 civilians were in custody for allegedly sabotaging the ongoing operations.
