Extraordinary Times Require Extraordinary Actions

Being the text of an address of welcome by the
Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief
John Odigie Oyegun, at a two-day retreat for all APC
Senators-elect at the Ibeto Hotel in Abuja on Saturday,
May 23rd 2015
Protocols

Let me formally welcome our party’s torchbearers in
the upper chamber of the incoming 8th National
Assembly to this retreat.
This is the first formal interaction between our
Senators-elect and the leadership of our party, since the
conclusion of the 2015 General Elections.

While I congratulate all of you on your elections, I must
quickly add that I don’t envy you. This is because you
are being called to service at one of the most
challenging periods in the history of our nation.

Unparalleled commitment, uncommon patriotism,
unprecedented hard work and indeed a reservoir of
your innermost strength will be required, as our party
takes the centre stage in the next few days and begins
to implement its programmes for the benefit of the long
suffering people.

Make no mistake about it, the days ahead will be tough,
and this is not crying wolf.
From the first day of this government, a total of 4.1
trillion Naira will be required for sundry expenses,
including oil subsidy payment, arrears of salaries at
federal and state levels and debt servicing, just to
mention a few.
Put this against the background of the falling oil prices,
the unprecedented 60-billion-dollar debt which the
outgoing government has left for the incoming one, the
largely depleted Excess Crude Account (ECA), the 60
billion dollars that have been lost in the last four years
to crude oil theft (and which are perhaps still being lost
as we speak), the need to rapidly create jobs for our
teeming army of unemployed youths, enhance the
security of the citizenry and improve the economy, and
you will begin to understand the enormity of the
challenges ahead.

This is not a lamentation forum, but still, we must tell
ourselves the truth about the state of the nation, and
the expectations of our people.
In fact, to a number of our compatriots, by May 30th, a
day after the swearing of our President-elect, all the
streets in Nigeria will be air conditioned while electricity
will become stable and fuel scarcity will be a thing of
the past.
Yes, we will get there, but it won’t happen overnight.
You, our Senators-elect, will be called upon to take
extraordinary actions to address the extraordinary
challenges that confront our nation.

The incoming President, more than anyone else, needs
the support and cooperation of the 8th National
Assembly to fulfill his campaign promise to Nigerians.
You may be required to pass important bills at very
short notices. This will not be unprecedented but will
require a buy-in to the programmes of the President
and the Party and a willingness to work with him and
the party for the benefit of all Nigerians. The demands
on you will be tasking, but you are up to the task!
Fortunately we have the numbers, even though we
believe that a bipartisan effort – to which we are open

- will be a better deal
And there is good news! You, our Senators-elect, share
in the dreams of the President and our party to make
our country great again.
May I also remind you that all eyes will be on our party

-and by extension on all of you – to see if our
government will walk its talk in terms of running a lean
and effective government, one that eschews waste,
corruption and indiscipline, and one that will harness
the nation’s human, material and natural resources for
the well being of the people.
Finally, let me end on a note of caution.

There is no magic wand to make our economy better
overnight. Against the realities on the ground, some of
which I listed earlier, reviving our economy will be a
long and tortuous process. Bold decisions will need to
be taken, and this can only be possible if there is a
synergy among our party, the National Assembly and
the President. We know you will not fail us, and you
will not fail Nigerians.
Well, the 1921 Nobel Laureate for Physics, Dr. Albert
Einstein, must have had a moment like this in mind,
while responding to a question.
He was asked: “Dr. Einstein, why is it that when the
mind of man has stretched so far as to discover the
structure of the atom, we have been unable to devise
the political means to keep the atom from destroying
us?”

His answer: “That is simple, my friend. It is because
politics is more difficult than physics.”
Now that you know the nobility of the calling in which
you have found yourselves, I am sure you will not
hesitate to show that politicians too can solve
problems!

Professional footballer Emmanuel Adebayor’s
family issues keeps running deep.
The African football star has shared with the world
a photo of his brother who allegedly stole 21 phones
from a football academy in France.
It will be recalled that the Tottenham striker days
ago shared details of the controversies surrounding
his family, with fans on facebook.
In his Facebook post, Adebayor disclosed that he sent
one of his brothers, Rotimi Adebayor to a football
academy in France where he was kicked out after
stealing 21 phones.
In his own words, “When I was in Monaco I thought
it would be good to have a family of footballers. So I
made sure my brother Rotimi gets into a football
academy in France. Within a few months; out of 27
players, he stole 21 phones.”
Sharing a photo of the said brother, the former
Arsenal striker wrote, “When the time is right Rotimi
Adebayor’s story will come out in Part 2″.

British Prime Minister David Cameron’s Conservative
party looks set to continue in power after it defied
expectations and won the 323 seats needed to
command a parliamentary majority.
The results confirmed a shock exit poll projection
published by British broadcasters late on Thursday
night that put the party way ahead of the opposition
Labour Party with 316 seats. Updated projections put
the Conservatives on 329, an absolute majority.
The poll also predicted Labour winning 239 seats, the
Scottish National Party (SNP) winning 58 and the
Liberal Democrats winning 10. Labour’s tally was
further revised down to 233 as the vote counts came
in.
The party’s leader, Ed Miliband, is expected to resign
his position, sources within the party told Al Jazeera on
condition of anonymity.
Nick Clegg, who was deputy prime minister under the
outgoing coalition government, announced his
resignation as leader of the Liberal Democrats after his
party’s “catastrophic” defeat.
Clegg called the loss of more than 40 of the party’s
seats “the most crushing blow to the Liberal
Democrats” since it was founded.
Speaking after successfully defending his seat in
Witney, Cameron said his Conservative party’s policies
in the last government had been vindicated by the
result.
“This has been a very strong night for the Conservative
Party,” the prime minister said.

THEIR FIRST GIG

have not kept in touch with their first man, they
remember him with fondness if he did not leave them
pregnant and stranded with a baby.
But will they ever tell their man this? Never.
Studies show the average woman lies about the age at
which she was disvirgined, adding anything between 2
and 10 years to the age. For instance, if a woman got
disvirgined at 14, she is likely to put the figure at 20 to
her current man. Men, on the other hand, openly boast
about their earlier sexual conquests.

THAT THEY CHECK OUT OTHER MEN
A man might be so close to the girl in his life that he
would point out other women’s body parts that he finds
attractive and everybody would have a good laugh. On
the other hand, a woman would never do that. If she
thinks the guy next door has a cute ass, she never, ever
mentions it to the man in her life. Not only would she
not mention it, she would never ever even make the
blunder of oogling the attractive derriere when their
man is around. Studies show women make lewd jokes
about other men when they are with girlfriends just as
much as men do, and they even fantasie but are great
about hiding it.


SHE HATES COOKING
A few years down the line, many relationships run into
crisis on this account- many many women just do not
like to cook.
In our part of the world, girls are raised not only to
learn how to cook but to happily cook for other people
for the rest of their lives, three times a day. If they
cannot live up to that ‘simple’ responsibility, they are
complete failures, especially in relationships.
Women are therefore happy to pretend to be kitchen
genies at the beginning of relationships and would
never admit to not just absolutely loving cooking.
Rather, they prefer to give their man the impression that
they live just to feed him as many times as possible in a
day. Unfortunately, that impression is bound to waste
when she insists of going out for dinner every so often
when the relationship is established.

SHE FEELS INSULTED WHEN YOU GIVE HER MONEY
Of course nothing makes your man feel grander than
knowing he has met his woman’s need and probably
even exceeded her expectations, especially if he had to
bend over backwards to do it. Studies show the average
woman is actually disappointed almost every time their
man gives them a gift, especially when it is money.
Truth is, today’s working women have developed very
sophisticated tastes that their men can barely keep up
with, and they are ready to work very hard when it’s
necessary to do so. But would a woman ever complain
her man has not even scratched the surface when he
gives her cash? Never.

SHE DOES NOT TRUST HIM
For all her freedoms and liberation, a woman is far less
likely than a man to voice her insecurities in a
relationship that the other way round.
She has watched her mother look the other way more
often than not. She has heard her aunt tell her
uncountable times of how it’s a man’s world. She has
been called names just for showing a flash of jealousy
and she has been told by the census that there are
more women than men.
Her girlfriends are telling her to be wise and hold on to
her straying man and so while he snoops and snoops
and finds nothing, she makes minimal efforts and finds
everything but does she ever mention it? Never.
The reason that hot new househelp gets a shaven head
and the girlfriend is told jokingly to do her top buttons
up is not because she does not trust her girlfriend or
the maid but because she certainly does not trust her
man.
Her man might ask the question a dozen times- “honey,
do you trust me?” and her answer would be a big fat
lying “Yes”.

No.True life story my friend

It is Generally believed that most men are known to be non-committed to marraiges than women which entails having concubines,secret wives e.t.c. but women aren't saints either.
Last week i received an urgent call from one of my best female friends(married) requesting we meet to discuss a very pressing issue.I felt something bad probably death had happened but she obviously wouldn't request we meet if that be the case.
At 4:30pm somewhere in a restaurant we met.The expression on her face potrayed that of someone who was facing marital stress.It took me 15mins to let it out of her mouth.At first she said "I'm Pregnant" and i was like "So why are you sad when you ought to be rejoicing after 4years of marraige".Then she revealed her husband wasn't responsible but some one else.And i was like are you out of your mind? I initially didn't realise she was dead serious.
The pregnancy belonged to her husband's best friend James(pseudonym).
Explaining how it all happened,her husband was on a 2weeks official trip to China.She paid james a visit on a friday eve to drop a message from her husband.James purposely engrossed her in a talk which lasted for over 6hours.When she realised it,it was 11pm.She had no other choice than to sleep over knowning fully well it would be dangerous outside by that time of the night.And that was how it all happened.
After the entire incident,the guy didn't even feel remorseful while she has warned that they shouldn't see each other in private to forestall further occurence.
Jane(pseudonym) can't look her husband in the eye as a result of guilt currently eating her up.
She is 4months pregnant already.
Telling him the truth will definitely dent her marriage and keeping it to herself is something she wouldn't be able to hold for so long.

A supporter of President-elect Muhammadu Buhari,
identified as Abubakar Duduwale , has set for a walk
from Yola in Adamawa to Abuja.
He told newsmen in Yola on Saturday at the onset of
the walk that the adventure was to express his joy over
the emergence of Buhari as president-elect.
Duduwale, from Yola North Local Government Area of
Adamawa and Chamba by tribe, reportedly began the
journey at Yola Gate on Yola-Numan highway at about
6:30 a.m.
He said he had wanted to start the journey a day after
the Independent National Electoral Commission
announced Buhari as a winner but somebody from
Lagos pre-empted him.
“The reason why I am trekking from Yola to Abuja is to
express my joy and solidarity with President -elect
Muhammadu Buhari.
“I want to trek from Yola to Abuja to witness the
inauguration ceremony of President elect, Duduwale
said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Suleiman
Hashimu, a supporter of Buhari had earlier undertaken
such walk from Lagos to Abuja which he concluded
