Sadly, you may have proffered a reasonable advise, but keenly, in all candor; "Not coming back" is quite unfortunate for our national development as we continue to lose our gifted Diasporas who ought to replicate sustainable institutions upon return to Nigeria.

We can't continue to thread this pathetic path of national neglect, bury our heads in theSand, turn a blind eye and expect a miraculous transformation in our economy in the future. Stimulating an economy out of recession or projecting an economy towards development is not by mere wish nor voodoo practice! It is by taking responsibility!

The truth is, our problem is beyond leadership; we are at War with our culture, we are at war with our beliefs, we are at war with our systems, and we must fight it as a nation and take up our challenges with daunting resolve. Everyone is a victim and we must individually begin to take responsibility for our emancipation as a country. Nigeria need a dire acculturation program, social, physical and economical reformation program to build US for a sustainable future. Ultimately, the Nigerian Diaspora community inclusive, must arise and key into these reformation program, put renewed faith in the nation's destiny,shun petty ideas as to immediate interest satisfaction, help drive development, sustainable structures and institutions back at home.

Part 5, Chapter 29 of the Criminal Code Act talks on Assaults:

351.         Any person who unlawfully assaults another is guilty of a misdemeanour, and is liable, if no greater punishment is provided, to imprisonment for one year.

352.         Any person who assaults another with intent to have carnal knowledge of him or her against the order of nature is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for fourteen years.

353.         Any person who unlawfully and indecently assaults any male person is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for three years. The offender cannot be arrested without warrant.

354.         Any person who unlawfully assaults and uses actual violence to a peace officer or any other person, while acting in the execution of his duty in or concerning the preservation of a vessel in distress, or of any vessel or goods wrecked, or stranded or lying under water, is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for seven years.

355.         Any person who unlawfully assaults another and thereby does him harm is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for three years.

356.         Any person who-

 (1)           assaults another with intent to commit a felony, or with intent to resist or prevent the lawful arrest or detention of himself or of any other person; or

 (2)           assault, resists, or wilfully obstructs a police officer while acting in the execution of his duty, or any person acting in aid of a police officer while so acting; or

 (3)           unlawfully assaults, resists, or obstructs, any person engaged in the lawful execution of any process against any property, or in making a lawful distress, while so engaged; or

 (4)           assaults, resists, or obstructs any person engaged in such lawful execution of process, or in making a lawful distress, with intent to rescue any property lawfully taken under such process or distress; or

 (5)           assaults any person on account of any act done by him in the execution of any duty imposed on him by law; or

 (6)        assaults any person in pursuance of any unlawful conspiracy respecting any manufacture, trade, business, or  occupation, or respecting any person or persons concerned or employed in any manufacture, trade, business, or occupation, or the wages of any such person or persons;

                is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for three years.

The criminal Code Act doesn't operate in Lagos state. I think it's the criminal code laws of Lagos state.

My advice to you is:
1. Sue the police for misapplication of justice and for being compromised .
2. Sue the Chinese man for assault.
3. Demand for financial damages (#500million) to treat the trauma and shock you expeienced

Though I don't support the maltreatment of workers, but the househelp shouldn't act like an ingrate. There's always 2 sides to a story and her complaint leaves so much unanswered. Is it possible that 20 pounds is all she's being paid? Really? By those who took her abroad in the first place?

It takes a lot to take someone abroad and give the person a better life, she should appreciate that. It's not like she had it better in Nigeria, so why should she bite the fingers feeding her over minor dispute.

The hardworking couple went through the stress of bringing her from Nigeria to the UK to help them babysit and keep the home, if she has issues, she should have found a way to table her complaints in a sensible way.

Most of these so-called househelps end up becoming arrogant and disloyal when they start having "london friends".
