Moneywomen17: how can oke-ora not exist during the time of oduduwa and till today when an ooni takes the throne the do the whole process of how oduduwa became king of which oke-ora was involved. Tell us when did oke-ora exist then. Meanwhile what he mean about heirarchy of king sitting before Nigeria was before independence in 1960 before then the ooni sits in the middle with the alafin and Benin king by his side there is a pic of the sitting in 1937 I said it before that Yorubas History only starts in 19th century.. Before that you cannot account for anything.. Oke Ora was a manufacture of Yorubas.. You guys are expert in manufacturing history and events to suit your agenda. So you base your hierarchy on British arrangements.. The pic you are talking about in 1937 was a meeting of Western council of Traditional rulers organized by the British.. Are you not even ashamed to claim your hierarchy on the British arrangement.. Before the advent of colonial adventure in Africa, if your Ooni or Alaafin dares say he is greater than the Oba of Benin, their heads will be decorations in our Palace. |

Moneywomen17: e pain u well it seems like u can not even read what the Lagos website statement says, it says that according to several controversial account which means it’s not definite awori were the indigenous settlers of Lagos island but that Benin came to subjugate it is false and that’s the controversial account Lagos government were talking about. It says other Yoruba sub tribe like ilaje migrated to Lagos not that the whole Yoruba migrated cuz awori were already there I wonder how u think u can just lie when the document u posted is there for everyone to see. Ekiti migrated to Ibadan doesn’t mean Yoruba are migrant in Ibadan. Awori owns Lagos till tomorrow and the British weren’t bias against anybody that says the truth like the saw it The Whole of Lagos colony which is Lagos land was founded by Yoruba. The truth can not be hidden the British were honest on who they met on ground and who controlled the location and there was no single mention of edo there cuz they are not dumb Yoruba is the language, culture and everything there. Again read the document again this time get some ice cream like a bitch to console u of ur tears. Again am telling u of war happen the ibo will go back to south east like 1967 and the ibo and Hausa again will go back home to the north and east in 1993 cuz they know reality is different from nairaland. Edo and ibo ranting about Lagos on nairaland stops on nairaland when push come to shove like June 12 they go pick race vomit to their side. Meanwhile u should be more worried about Edo State in case of a war u guys are minority and ur place will likely be merged among the big 3 I trust the ibos they are already saying south south and south east is biafra so u are probably joining them the real war booty are likely minority tribe of which edo is one lol. Read the authentic British document once more and digest it. If you like interpret and twist the details in the document anyhow you like.. Lagos state govt acknowledges Awori and Edos as the first settlers in Lagos and Yorubas as Migrants.. It could have simply said Yorubas are the first settlers but if it put 'controversial accounts as you said" on its website for the whole world to see then that accounts is true. Edo founded and developed Lagos. |

Moneywomen17: shut up there and stop deceiving urself the area called Lagos island which was only Lagos before Lagos state was created in the 1967 has always be awori Yoruba land even the British acknowledge who they met there. Apart from the monarchy which was Benin paternally for a while before the birth of ologun kuture reverse the paternal origin back to yoruba Benin boys have no relation anywhere in Lagos state. The Lagos island that u claim was Benin land and Yoruba migrated too is pure lie and the British governor of Lagos showed only the demographics of Lagos island to be Yoruba no edo there and dumbass Lagos state was created in 1967 that was when badagry and ikorodu and ikeja which were part of the western region was merged to create Lagos state not the British in the 19c davidnaze when will u lie stop for god sake hmm u are embarrassing urself if Nigeria break what happened during June 12 conflict will repeat itself Hausa and ibo go run back to their region or u forgot that Lagos is surrounded by Yoruba land and it can never be occupied without occupying the rest of Yoruba land. The British knows who owns all the colony of Lagos which is Lagos island that’s an historical document right there even ur brother prolong will like that. Awori owns the Lagos island which was just the colony of lagos the rest like ikeja and ikorodu which was western region until it was created to make Lagos state has always been yoruba land too better wake up and face reality not nairaland bullshit cuz bullshit is just that bullshit, nor Hausa nor ibo nor edo has just one single claim to any land in Lagos. Yoruba demon you no Dey sleep?? If u like shout and rant, Edo founded Lagos and all Nigerians built it.. if war comes Yorubas aren’t taking it.. don’t rely on biased British document which favours Yorubas because of their loyalty and servitude to the British. Here is a Lagos State government details on the origin of Lagos and first settlers.. it even describes Yoruba as migrants.

Misled by whom or what?
Asides from written documents, scholars have been able to argue that evidences of primordial history abound in poetry/chants, festivals & other social ceremonies.
Ife (not the entire Yoruba) is resolute about the origin of their son, Oduduwa. Several evidences abound in the materials he left behind to his relatives in Ife - yep. Evidences abound in Ooni’s coronation. Evidence abound in Oduduwa & Obatala’s festivals. Evidences abound in the way Ife socio-political life is structured.
The problem is that every group wants to sell an Oduduwa narrative to suit an agenda.
For example:
1. Muslims hijacked Sultan Bello’s Mecca reference to Oyo & claimed Oduduwa came from mecca when in actual fact, Sultan Bello was specifically referring to Oyo in Clapperton’s journal. Why the muslims hijacked it is unclear but it may have been to help them market the Islam religion to other Yoruba people.
2. Oyo claiming Ooni was a slave in order to advance its own empire position which it lost to Ibadan after Oyo-Ile collapsed. The Alaafin is trying very hard to re-invent the empire & also hijack the Yoruba nomenclature in its present day meaning. Going by evidences, if anyone was a slave then it would be the Alaafin because the tribal marks he wears long ago indicate palace slaves in excavated artworks found in Bini & Ife. In addition to this, Oyo has no crown like other Yoruba towns & Bini. Like Oranmiyan founded Bini & Oyo dynasy, he also returned to Ife to seize the throne from the Ugbos again & founded the present dynasty. Ooni has nothing to do with any deity, deity worship in Ife is a family thing.
3. Bini’s Ekalederan story can be traced to the Western region problem when a politician made a statement at a house parliament saying ‘We have the Ooni if Ife & the Alaafin of Oyo here, the western region is complete’ meanwhile, way before Nigeria, sittng arrangement for kings was Ooni in the center, Alaafin yo the right & Bini to the left. The Oba Bini was infuriated by this and a seccession for mid-western region began. To achieve that political independence, a philosophy that appealed to nationalistic & patriotic emotions was needed ——> enter Ekalederan story here. On fact, it was further designed at that point to include the traditional history of Delta areas which made the Oba their ralkying point. It was not after the creation of the then Ben(in)Del(ta) - Bendel state that the people of Delta caught the drift and wanted out.
4. Olugbo rode the coat tails of Oyo & Bini. This trio were hell bent on using each other’s narratives to reinforce their respective position but while Olugbo agreed to the Ekalederan story, the Alaafin drew the line there. Olugbo forgot that his own group that left were those left in the Ugbo forest who did not know what had happened to their kin that went to Ife for usual pilgrimage. He has also forgotten that the 13 communities making up Ife were/are all Ugbo (including Osin Ora aka Oduduwa the usurper) & that his own group was just a fraction from Iwinrin section that still exists today under Obawinrin.
I am not trying to debate you or convince you to accept my version as the truth. I am just saying that evidences in the way the palaces of Ife, Bini, Oyo operate do not support the theories of Oduduwa being ekalederan or Ooni being a slave. The coronation of these three kings also do not support such claims. The festivals & the way these towns are strcutured tell a different story.
Yoruba may be misled about Oduduwa origins, Ife people are not. Outsiders may need to visit Ife more to see how things have been. In your #3, you said way before Nigeria, OOni in the center, alafin to the right and Oba of Benin to the left. You are very wrong pr probably lying again. Way before Nigeria, Alaafin and Ooni lived in fear of the Oba of Benin.. They don't sit together in any hierarchy or sitting arrangement. They may trade or communicate which is normal with Kingdoms but never any hierarchical sitting order between them maybe with Alaafin and Ooni but NEVER with Oba of Benin.. Just the way you say Ife is resolute about the origin of their son Oduduwa (who actually conquered them) so also Edo is resolute about Oduduwa being an Edo son who settled in Ife and conquered and took the throne. however we are all resolute in our beliefs so lets keep it that way. "However Oke Ora which Yorubas claim oduduwa migrated from didn't exist in the time of Oduduwa".. If you Yorubas want to sing about Yoruba glory never use Benin as a yardstick for measuring Yoruba success rather find something of Yoruba to sing about.. We are two very different people/culture and Benin Kingdom as a matter of fact was a greater Kingdom than all Yoruba kingdoms.. |
Culture › Re: Oba Of Benin Visits Ooni Of Ife by davidnazee: 5:50am On Jun 23, 2018 |
Lagos as a whole is made up of 5 cultural divisions prior to its creation as a sate and these are:
1. Ikorodu
2. Badagry
3. Epe
4. Ikeja
5. Lagos Island.
Ikorodu & Epe are Ijebu towns; Ikeja & Lagos Island are Awori towns; Badagry is an Ogu town.
I swear until now I didn’t know Hausa, Yiibo & Bini had claims to these 5 divisions that have existed before Nigeria o. I swear you post is very insightful and full of knowledge.
On that Lagos Island the divisions that preceded Nigeria are:
1. Ikoyi - Oyo town.
2. Iru - Awori town.
3. Lekki/Palma - Awori town.
3. Ikate (VI) - Awori town.
4. Ijora - Awori/Ekiti town.
5. Apapa - Awori town.
6. Ajah - Ogu town
7. Any other locations you can think of are Awori towns.
8. Iga Idungaran - Bini. Bini’s claim to Lagos is the Eleko’s throne alone. You see that patch of land the Iga is located on is the only spot Bini has a ‘claim’ to/over.
You may want to tell us which of the 5 divisions/kingdoms the forefathers of the founders of Edo, Yiibo & Hausa brought from their poor regions. I see that you are another misinformed Yoruba man or just twisting true accounts which is a common thing for the Yorubas.. Or should I say the Yorubas can only discuss history starting from post colonial Nigeria. All these divisions you mentioned were created in recent times and didn't exit pre-colonial times.. I guess you know that but as usual will choose to lie about it. In earlier times the area know as Lagos was only restricted to the island of lagos and Iddo island. The main land part of lagos was unpopulated and wasn't part of Lagos till recent times. The Aworis who were mainly hunters and fishermen occupied the Iddo Island.. What is fairly certain is that the Awori settlement in Lagos was earlier than that of the Benin which eventually subjugated the emergent settlement. Lagos Island was an unoccupied territory at that time and did not belong to the Aworis, neither was main land Lagos Awori territory (you cannot claim an unoccupied area because you are close it).. The Yorubas were never part of Lagos. They migrated to the area when Lagos began to develop in a formidable settlement. The Edo warriors were the first settlers on Lagos Island which served as a military camp and from there they carried out their expeditions in to west africa.. Over the years the warriors paved way for their families and also Edo traders to settle in Lagos Island and the camp began to take shape from just a military camp into a city. Yoruba elements started migrating to and settled on the lagos mainland in later years after the Island of Lagos has become a booming city and trading center. As wars began plaguing the Yoruba lands more Yorubas started migrating to Lagos mainland till the danger of an attack by he warring tribes plaguing Yorubaland drove them to seek the security of the nearest island, Iddo, from where they spread to Eko. These Yoruba traders and war refugees were the first wave of Yorubas in Lagos. The second wave of Yorubas into Lagos were the returnee slaves. By 1851 after the abolition of the slave trade, there was a great attracton to Lagos by the repatriates. Mainly freed Yoruba captives and their descendants who have been set ashore in Sierra leone, responded to the pull of their homeland and returned in successive waves to Lagos. They were granted land to settle in areas of the island. The areas of Badagry, Ikorodu and Epe Local Governments were never part of Lagos. These areas were only merged as part of Lagos by the British at the end of the 19th century. Any history of Lagos always accounts the Aworis and the Edos as the first settlers of Lagos. The Aworis never identified as Yoruba hundreds of years ago, but were assimilated into the yoruba culture in later years. Yorubas are migrants to Lagos.. Yoruba lands closeness to Lagos accounts for its large numbers in Lagos.. As I always say; Lagos was founded by Benin Kingdom and built by the collective efforts and wealth of all Nigerians (Ibo, Hausas, etc).. If Nigeria breaks up as being drummed by some Yoruba elements, Lagos will be a war booty. |

We no go fight ourselves
We are too influential in africa and the globe to breakup
Once we get good leadership, tribe and religion will be irrelevant
In fact, those things will become a strength due to diversity
Me Im not one of those yorubas who argues over lagos
Lagos will most likely be ruled by yorubas for a long time tho..
But in a true democracy, anyone born in lagos and a lagosian can and should rule irrespective of state of origin
Same way, I can rule edo or delta because I was born and grew up in those lands
We will get there one day Our African mentality can’t take us there. If we still burning people alive for petty crimes, SARS shooting innocent people, Fulanis killing families, politicians looting and YORUBAS continuing their treachery and lies we won’t get anywhere. |

We are more influential together than broken up

GodSon34: Nigeria is the creation of European/British Imperialism. To call Nigeria a country would be incorrect.
Even the name Nigeria was created by Flora Shaw, wife of Lord Luggard and is believed to secretly mean: Negro-area.
Nigeria is a combination of various tribes., most of which were ancient enemies. The Fulani conquered the Hausa. The various Yoruba wars which have not been properly documented. The selling out of the Alafin of Oyo and Oba of Benin to the British slave and colonial masters.
It goes on and on... Nigeria was purposely created to oppress and suppress certain ethnic groups like the Igbo, Ijebus, Warri, etc The amalgamation of the northern and southern protectorates by the British was done to empower certain tribes over others.
Nigeria will never be united because it’s foundation was based on deep rooted cultural and religious differences which is till today being exploited by the colonial powers (neo-colonialism) Your write up is nice but calling the Oba of Benin a sellout is totally wrong. It was due to his refusal to sellout that British went to war with Benin Kingdom. |
