Family › Re: Please What Is The Way Forward by dawnomike(m): 11:47am On Aug 30, 2025
MazzMet:
My only sister is married to an Igbo man from Imo State while we came from Ogun State. She was 22 when they met, while the man was 39. The man happened to be her first love, according to the man. Their marriage is almost 18 years with 4 kids: two boys and two girls. My parents don’t support the marriage, but the man insisted it’s either my sister or no one else. My father begged my sister not to marry this man, but she insisted. He got her pregnant and never paid her bride price nor married her legally. My father still beseeched her not to continue this marriage journey, but she never listened. He relocated to Port Harcourt from Lagos in February 2014 without letting us know their reasons for relocation.

This year makes it 11 years since we last set eyes on my sister. She doesn’t have a phone so we couldn’t reach her. Whenever we call the husband, he always gave us excuses: he’s not around, he travelled, she has gone to church, etc. And sometimes when we luckily reached her through her husband’s phone, she always made it look like she’s fine, even though we knew she’s not. My father lost his mother in 2019, her paternal grandmother; she and her husband didn’t show up. My mother lost her mother in 2021 and her younger siblings; my sister and her husband never showed up. We lost our father in 2022, same thing, they didn’t show up.

We got a call last month from her that she’d be coming to Lagos to see us. She arrived on July 14th, 2025, with 3 of her children. She narrated all what she has gone through in her marriage, how her husband beat her physically and emotionally almost every day. She learnt catering and decoration, but he never allowed her to work, he didn't allowed her use a mobile phone, nor establish her. He collects any money sent to her through her family and the church she attends. The husband has a younger brother abroad and, according to my sister, the man has sent her husband money and buses several times to sell, start up a business, and ensure he pays his wife’s bride price, but he never listened. My sister overheard her husband’s conversation with his brother in Igbo dialect, how his brother was shouting at him on the phone, asking why he refused to pay his wife’s bride price, and the husband said to his brother that he will not pay it because my late father gave him a tough time since he didn’t want him to marry his only daughter. So to him, it is payback time. This man always embarrasses my sister in public. He always goes to church to embarrass her, including in front of the pastors and members.

This same man has never called her ever since she came to Lagos, at least to know how she and the kids are faring. The church has been so helpful, according to her. It was the church that

Her daughter always disturbs her on the phone, crying and asking for money, and she has no money. I wonder who advised the poor girl to sit for jamb and enrolled in school. I was forced to send ₦5,000 from the ₦12,500 in my account. I have been having sleepless nights about my sister situation. How I wish she listened to our late father, how I wish she had listened to the family. Her children cried to bed last night without food. School will resume in two weeks’ time, what would be their fate? The day I set eyes on my sister, I couldn’t recognize her. She looked pale and worn out. Someone who’s not 40 yet. My mother is so heartbroken.

All these break my heart.
Sorry about the situation of things in your family at the moment... Everyone just has to let go of the past and try to stand together as a family to forge ahead.

Your sister needs to get her life together all over again for the sake of her kids and not to be a burden to the family.

Let her start by getting a job no matter how little and her daughter of 17yrs needs to start to learn a skill as well so as to help in providing for her siblings as soon as she can.

Your sister and her kids need you more than ever now... Try your best and leave the rest to God.

Ezewuzie01:
I watched Afia TV where a chief was being interviewed about Enugu state @ 34 and he was lamenting that even though he lives close to the Enugu state government house at the highbrow Independence layout, he and others in the area have to cough out 27,000 naira every week to buy water from tankers into their houses. He stopped short of calling Enugu a glorified village. Peter Mbah is failing in his responsibilities as governor while he chases shadows.

A lot of Enugu people are moving to Anambra state due to the water crisis, thereby exacerbating the population explosion in Anambra. Peter Mbah should wake up.
Enugu state from time immemorial is known not to have underground water hence, the need for residents to buy water from tanker operators.

I chatted my friend in abuja last two wks
He was my coursemate back in school and a nice person, I told him am looking for jobs, he told me of a vacancy in the company he works known as semafo multinational company which pays 250 dollars
He told me it a foreign company that has branch in abuja
He promised to help me get the job in the available vacancy but that I should send the pictures of my waec ,NIN and passport so he can print them out ,write application and send it to the company
I did as he said ,I sent him all the pictures
I searched the company on Google map but it wasn't on Google map, so I waved it as nothing
The next day he texted me that he have submitted them and that I should pray strongly to get positive reply from them
He narrated to me how his pastor prophesied to him he will get the job and he end up getting it
Two days later I asked him were the company is located in abuja, he told me zuba
The next day I received a call, the caller proclaimed to be in abuja, he called out my name in full and said somethings which I didn't hear clearly cos his English was so fast and phonetics
the last statement he made which i heard clearly was "we will get back to you shortly"
I narrated to my friend via text what the caller said, he started saying how lucky i am,
He assured me that the next call I will receive is to come and resume work, I was happy.
I started asking him about the company and the products the deal on
He told me the deal on Jewelries, Wristwatch, Pendants, Electrical and Electronics appliances, Computer and Components etc and that once I come in as beginner I will work as a packager
I asked him to send me pictures of the product
He sent me pictures and videos, and none of the pictures and videos showed him inside
The next day I asked him to tell me the address of the company in zuba, he replied that if I reach zuba ,he will come and pick me
I asked him same question again and again, he keep giving same reply both on text and voice notes
I searched the company again on map but couldn't find it, I searched on CAC ,
booooom it wasn't on CAC
After some days I made it clear to him that if he won't tell me address of the company in abuja, i might not come
He started yabbing me of not being man enough
I too de fear like woman

Some days later which is last Sunday, he texted me that if am not ready to come ,that he will cancel my application

Wizmj4real:
Good day everyone including the moderator.
Please am worried about something so pressing at the moment. There's this babe that really love me but I don't really fancy her as per getting into a relationship with her, although she's obviously into me of which I know but mannn! My body is moving me for her but my spirit is kinda slow about her. Mind you we share almost our darkest life together, really good friends oh, we video chat, argue , talk about really deep things. She wanted to visit but clearly to her that I don't trust myself around her and she laughed but I insisted she doesn't visit. Early this month she visited her family my city and really wanted to visit but I used work as an alibi to avoid her coming around. No my issue is am feeling guilty about the whole thing and am wondering why do we chase people that don't like us and get loved by people we're not really into?
That is the irony of life... It is what it is.

I think you should both have a honest mature conversation on this and let her understand that in as much as you respect and appreciate her as a friend, you would not want to take the relationship deeper than it is.

I want to believe she will also respect and appreciate the openess.

Polydo:
In Benue: Woman Caught Stealing Goat, See What Happened Next Will Shock You! 🐐

If you think you’ve seen it all in Nigeria, wait until you hear this! In Benue State, a woman was caught for allegedly stealing a goat. But instead of simply handing her over to the authorities, the villagers went for the “African drama special” they stripped her, tied the goat around her waist, and paraded her in public.

Now, I have just one question: must humiliation always be the first punishment? 🤔 We are in 2025, yet some people still believe stripping women nak£d is the best way to teach a lesson. Honestly, that’s not justice, that’s public shame.

Remember that lady who boarded Ibom Air and made headlines because of the treatment she got? Sometimes, it feels like society is always quick to disgrace ordinary people, but when it comes to those stealing millions in government, everyone suddenly develops selective blindness.

Why don’t we see the same energy when a corrupt politician loots the treasury? Why don’t we tie bags of money to their necks and parade them too? Or is it that goats are easier to catch than government thieves? 🐐💼

We need to do better as Africans. Wrong is wrong, whether it’s stealing a goat or stealing billions. But punishment should be fair, lawful, and without unnecessary humiliation. Let’s keep our dignity, even when correcting wrongs.

📢 What do you think? Should public humiliation be banned completely, or do you think it’s still an effective punishment? Drop your opinion in the comments! Let’s talk.
The part I do not understand is what has become a culture of 'stripping naked' !!!

It is even more shameful that a fellow woman like her who should do better in protecting her little decency irrespective of her crime was shining teeth!!!

I support dealing with criminals but not in a stupid manner!
