PoliticsRe: Border Closure: Obasanjo Says Benin Republic Must Mend Its Ways With Nigeria by Debaiz: 6:22am On Nov 27, 2019
anonimi:
What was the result of the closure back thenhuh
Increased farming and manufacturing in Nigeria or what did he achieve?
Result?

Dangote cement
Indomie noodles
Flour mills and dangote spaghetti
Chi vita, lacasera, bigi cola etc
Ajanla farms, chi farms and many more
Nigerian fashion industry(locally made cloths by tailors)
Eggs
GP plastics and tanks etc
Made in nigeria shoes
British American tobacco company
Nigerian made beers and alcoholic drinks
Nigerian made vegetable oils
Sugar made in nigeria(recently BUA group just completed and commissioned its $300m sugar factory in Kwara state)

If you were too young when nigeria was importing all those, then you should be asking those who were not rather than speaking on border closure.

bigfrancis21:
My only issue with this bill is the removal of statute of limitations. Even in more advanced countries, statute of limitations exist for a reason due to changing laws over time, thus what may be legally or socially permissible 30 years ago (socially permissible yes? Morally right it may not have been) may be outlawed today, thus people should not be indicted from periods when certain things were permissible. It would be similar to jailing a 115-year old grandfather for partaking in slavery in the late 1800s when it was legally allowed but banned today.

The inclusion of men in the bill may serve as a catalyst to gather male support to ensure the passage of the bill.
What are you saying?

Was there a time rape was legally and/or morally right?, or are you envisaging that there could be a time that rape will be legally and/or morally right?

I curse the day rape will ever be socially acceptable. May I never live to see such day.

It doesn’t matter if you commit the offense 200years ago or 2 centuries ago. Rape will always be rape and as long as it can be proved beyond reasonable doubt, you will be found guilty.

You just played yourself ojogbon. Sugar is not banned in the second list, an import tariff is not a ban. I expect you to know the difference. Stop yapping about age. It seems you're a teen-ager after all dats why you can't get over it. It's ok. You'll get there someday.

So you just started eating local rice 2 months ago and you now think you're an expert on there matter?

Yes. There is high quality Nigerian rice. No one doubts that but is it in appreciable quantity? You keep talking about rice mills by Lagos and Ogun which have actually been practically abandoned by the succeeding administrations as the fulcrum of the border closure policy. But it's not so. Govt said local rice is available and affordable not WILL BE. RIPAN said same. Besides a futuristic policy is unheard of. Policies are supposed to take care of the present. It's plans that take care of the future.
It's just like saying govt should ban import of petrol since dangote is building a refinery. Dull point indeed!!
P.S. The way you keep jumping right and left on ur points is nauseating and infantile. First, you said border closure triggered rice mills by Lagos and Ogun. Then you later agree that it's not the case. Whereas the only thing you got right about ban of noodles/spaghetti which is a rather moot point you can't let go of. You're really lowering the bar of this discourse
@the bold.

Any other person would’ve know it was an error rather than a false claim of absolute conviction like yours on the pasta and sugar issues.

Any other person would have known that a border closed less than two months ago couldn’t have brought about rice mills that are almost completed but not you. it is your short victory.

Don’t let me rain on your parade of short victory but let me remind you that the topic is about protectionism and that 50% 100% tariff in any economy is protectionism. Reason why it is listed amongst banned products. A 100% tariff is as good as a ban except you want to there’s another motive behind 100% tariff beyond protection of local industry.

Again, from the beginning your argument against protectionism has been flawed with the success of local manufacturing in the sugar, pasta cement and other industries on the list I gave to you. You’re just grasping at straws. Plenty talk with plenty nonsense.

Good day.

BLESS YOU!!!

For example, that Nigerian local rice producers began to invest in de-stoning equipment was largely because of foreign competition (specifically, consumers preferring foreign rice to the stone-filled Nigerian variety), and even then a significant percentage of local rice still has stone issues.

This is a cheap populist stunt that deceive gullible sections of the Nigerian population (assuming the government actually has a clue), rather than investing in seedlings, improved inputs, irrigation, storage and logistics that will improve local rice yield/quality while keeping costs down.
>
Did protectionism help the following products in the lists below grow in nigeria or not.

Stop consuming the gibberish that the west is programming into your heads in other to keep you perpetually in their control.

Here's ur list. Oya show me sugar there adult. And if you can't point out sugar then you're the one lacking in adult traits.
Where did I say noodles/spaghetti is a failure of protectionism? You have comprehension issues fa.
Have you ever heard of import substitution? Lagos and Ogun rice mills have been in the pipeline since 2017. Border closure did not trigger them. Go and read about import substitution and read what you just wrote. Then you'll see where you're wrong.
Where did you get production at 50%? Ok o. We'll see who is deceiving who.
Let me inform you again like I did the other guy. Foreign rice is more expensive than local rice. Go to any market and find out. Its the quality that's the difference. Nobody including a patriot wants to spend hours picking rice nor having to eat rice and stone. Until Nigerian rice can be destoned properly, most people will not be really enthusiastic about it. It's interesting to note that with ur 50% increase in production, price has risen. Care to tell me why that is from ur well of roundabout knowledge?
Let me start from the bottom of your comment.

I’ve been eating local rice for the past 2months. There are very high quality Nigerian rice far better than the chemically parboiled rice that is imported.

Yes border closure didn’t trigger rice mills construction. It is the other way round. Govt foresees the future than you. By the time the rice mills are ready, the consuming populace will be used to Nigerian rice and ready to by. The big rice mill won’t have to struggle to integrate into the market. That is if you get the gist.

Now back to the SUGAR. Is this the only list or the only picture I sent? Go back and check the second list.

Aren’t you ashamed that I have to keep sending you back to the same comment all the time just because you couldn’t get the full picture the first time?

First you accepted you don’t know Pasta was banned after I gave you the list.

You said sugar is not there, I asked you to check again.

You checked again but forgot to check the second list.

If it were to be a 7year old kid that is unable to pay attention to details like this it will be understandable but a full grown man. Almost 40years.

Go back and check the second picture.

For the second time I’m telling you, you read with concentration and attention to details. Instead of rushing to make comment. That is what adults do.

Agboriotejoye:
What are you talking about?
Sugar is not on the list. If it's there show me. I never said cement was never banned. Stop confusing yourself.
Dufil opened its first plant in ota in 1996. Here's the link: https://www.dufil.com/about-us
Five Alive is still not in Nigeria by the way. NBC bought the franchise when fruit juice importation was banned. It's not the original one.
Stop acting as if you're all grown up. I'm in my late thirties so was old enough when OBJ banned some items. I just didn't realise spaghetti/noodles was on the list.
You think I'm against protectionism? If the capacity is there why not? The story of five alive is a good example of protectionism working fine. Now we have chivita and hollandia.
However, the story of spaghetti/noodles does not fit into protectionism as I've shown you.
Rice farming as we have it now does not either. We don't produce enough to go round and not at the right quality either. A better policy could be indigenization of rice production by attracting foreign rice mills who have perfected the production process. But protectionism can't work in this case. That's what I'm letting you know
You’re in your late thirties, you didn’t realize spaghetti and noodle was banned and yet you still can’t see sugar on the list and you still want me to show you. You won’t want me to treat you like a teenager. Go back and read again. That is what adults do. They read with concentration and pay attention to details.

You accepted that you failed to realize spaghetti was on the list but you’re telling me spaghetti and noodles is a failure of protectionism. Where did you show me? Because you said we still have imported spaghetti?

Do you know we still have imported cement? Imported juice? Do you know local pasta production still have less than 85% market share? Who covers for the remaining 15% if not foreign product. Same way with sugar, cement, juice etc.

Before import ban in rice, local production was less than 10%. Presently it’s more than 50%. in the next 1-2years, it will rise to about 80%-90%. Lagos, Ogun and others(dangote etc) are building their mills. Each of them big enough to supply the whole country.

Without ban on rice and border closure, do you think Lagos and Ogun would invest its money into rice mill? Not to talk of the jobs to be provided.

Which one do you think Nigerians would buy? The established foreign cheap rice with better quality or the upcoming local expensive and low quality?

If Nigerians choose the foreign, why will happen to the local production?

The fact that you’re talking about quality means shows you’re speaking as a typical consumer who don’t care where the product comes from rather than a patriot who wants his country to grow.

That is how protectionism works.

Like I said, you’re ignorant on a whole lot of things.

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/224628-despite-ban-imported-spaghetti-still-sold-nigerian-malls.html
Note also that dufil started producing noodles in Nigeria since 1996 and as at then, noodles importation was not banned. I hope you understand what this implies as per ur argument that only import ban can encourage local production
You’re not talking about sugar and cement again?

Stop blabbing and accept you were ignorant.

You’re just grasping at conjectures.

Dufil didn’t start producing in nigeria in 1996 same way five alive wasn’t producing anything in nigeria in and MTN wasn’t producing recharge cards in nigeria until OBJ stopped all of them from importing.

I ask you a question. Name 10 items on that list that nigeria do not produce presently.

If you were too young when those decisions were made, don’t come here questioning people who weren’t. Instead ask questions.

In the next 10-20years, young ones would come to you with this kind of your lame argument that rice was never banned in nigeria. They will come with the same excuse the western economists is programming into your heads that protectionism don’t help any industry. All because they want to keep pushing their products into the country. When that time comes, it would be easier for you to defend ur argument than it is for me today because we have internet today as against 15years ago.

Yes we have imported spaghetti today same way we now have imported sugar but the difference is that they can’t really compete with our local sugar industry let alone kill it.

The whole point of protectionism is to protect up and coming industry and shield them away from unfavorable competition from foreign established industries. Once the industry is established, the import restriction is removed to drive down price through competition.

The problem with Dangote cement was that the corrupt govt instead of protecting small cement companies from going under when dangote was coming up, they allied dangote to buy them up thereby creating a monopoly rather than local compettition.

No. You're the one who is ignorant. Show me imported noodles and spaghetti that was banned before they started producing in Nigeria. You should ask urself why dufil, dangote and flour mill started producing in Nigeria without any prodding from anybody and why we have to ban foreign rice before you can get local rice on a large scale according to your analysis.
That's where the cure from ur ignorance will start
Wait are you saying importation of cement, noodles and spaghetti was not banned? I’m forced to ask how old are you?

Nobody produces in an import dependent country. Even dangote was protected by the military for importing sugar before he he started producing. There’s no way any industry can survive without protection from the govt. obj had to ban importation of SA made recharge cards to promote local production.

Dufil didn’t start producing in nigeria. They started with importation. Get your facts right and stop promoting your ignorance.

A life that brings out masculinity in her rather than feminism.

Why not let her grow like a normal child, then let her chose when she’s 16 if she want to continue with life in boxing.

pharmagba:
I need to be blunt with you since you asked for my advice

You are not wise at all.
Look at the reason you are giving, that you are not praying regularly

Praying to God is a test of humility. A great man once said, "if I want to humble a man, I ask him how long he prays"
It simply means you are full of pride and very disobedient wife. You are even considering your marketability when you eventually leaves his house.
If things continue like this let me tell you what will happen, he will definitely throw you out of his life, not only his house and he will get a better lady and live happily ever after and you may also get a another husband who will also throw you out after some time. Why? Simple. It is because you will display your rotten character.

My advice if you really want to make things work
Be humble to your husband, respect and obey him. It is not to much to pray even if it is 100times daily. Any woman that humbles herself and respect her husband especially if the man is Godly, will always find favour with him. In fact such men will go out of their ways to satisfy and make her happy but if you don't respect him forget about getting any dime from him.
You have wasted so much time, start the amendment today. Thank God he had not told his parent.

A word is enough for the wise
I doubt you’re a Muslim. If you are you should know how hard it is to pray 5times daily especially for women and most especially for a woman who wasn’t used to it. If you pray 5times daily then be grateful to Allah rather than being arrogant.

I once heard a story of a Muslim man who works by crushing rocks with hand tools. He doesn’t pray regularly. They asked him why he doesn’t pray regularly. He said the 5daily prayers is a very hard task. This was someone who crushes rock with hand tools for a living.

Praying 5times daily requires work and grace of Allah. You may be right with her arrogance towards Allah and prayer and she really needs to change but the husband has serious work to do. He really needs to show her love and huge support.

They’re both wrong but saying someone you’ve never met has a rotten character is not an hallmark of a Muslim.

The husband should support her. He can take her along to masjid every morning and cajole her with love and jokes to pray the rest.

Malice and divorce should be the last resort.

negative. A,b and C. Including full blood count.
After all you’ve described and the tests you’ve said you did, If it’s not herpes then I don’t believe it’s medical. It could be psychological or spiritual.

I also have a reason to believe some girls react negatively to some guys sperm. Some guys also react negatively to some girls body fluid. It all depends on the DNA formations of the partners. Your body might be reaction to something(body chemical) in his sperm.

The first time I had HIV test, it was psychological. Even after the test coming out negative, I still had some symptoms for some time. Ever since, I’ve been doing it every year. I even have a card number. Anytime I break up with someone, I go for test after 3months.

as they are prosecuting they should also prosecute the failed Nigeria airways project especially the logo hideous amount
Prosecute anything prosecuteable(if there’s a word like that). Even Buhari himself should be investigated. I don’t care. Nigeria is greater than anyone.
