@doncigalo

My brother cool down. Everyone has its area of specialization. What you can do may be hard for another person to do. And what that person can do may be hard for you.  For example, the site (www.umuigbo.com) is only being powered by two scripts, nothing more nothing less. I have seen a lot of works which is extremely difficult for me but it is very easy to someone else.

I respect anyone's work no matter how ugly it looks like. After all facebook, google, baidu, and others are not even pretty yet they are raking millions of dollars each day.

I think as long as a website is achieving its goal (i.e making the actual money the owner wants), its looks doesn't matter much as long as it is getting enough traffic. If you think otherwise, then be the first to sue Seun, Mark, Google, and others.

You folks love to celebrate and defend mediocrity. Shilling is right. Most African sites are ugly. A good programmer should have an eye for design. End of story. There are free wordpress themes one can modify or learn from. One can also use Joomla or Drupal. At least make sure the colors coordinate. Look at this South African website. It's world class. http://www.woothemes.com/

Your story about programming and almost completing the code and there is power outage is moot. What does that have to do with anything?

@Shilling Jobberman is well designed. just add a www and a .com to it. For some reason the forum won't let me post the link here. I guess it's a competitor to "you know who's" site.  grin

You failed to understand the difference between a programmer and a designer
Family / Re: British Family Considering Move To Nigeria. Advice Welcomed :) by deco2come: 1:38pm On Mar 05, 2012
@POSTER

I don't know how fast your children adapt to things but I am afraid that they will find it hard adapting to Nigeria environment. Especially when it comes to electricity, the heat of the sun, and the internet speed. It will be a tough decision.

Moreover they don't have much friends. They will find everything almost boring not because Nigeria is a boring place but because things won't work out much for them.

Moreover, I want you to say bye bye to your online games because with the internet speed in Nigeria, maybe I should by NCHOR(an african game) for you grin grin. It will keep you busy when you are getting frustrated with the internet speed.

My suggestion is this, instead of moving all the family at once, since you have visited Nigeria before, maybe you and your husband should move first and allow the kids to come for vacation. See what they think and monitor how they adapt.

During my university days, there is this guy from United State that lives with us. The way he adapt to everything will make you wonder if he is really from United State of America or United State of Africa. Each vacation, he will fly back to United State. Everything depends on individual.

Wish you luck

Saying that Nigeria Webmasters Suck is an insult. There is a big difference between Website programmer and Website designer(i.e the person that handles the graphic interface).

For instance, due to the situation of things, I admit that I am not good when it comes to graphic interface of a website but as long as the mechanism that controls the site is concern, I know that I can handle it and get things working perfectly.

Besides, judging Nigerian to other countries like US, UK,Canada, is unfair when you know fully well that the situation at home for example electricity issue, internet speed, lack of equipment, etc don't help web designers to function well. Imagine writing a code and when you are about to get things done, all of a sudden, there is a power failure or your internet is not connecting again.

Have you ever written code with candle and lamper  with car battery powering your system before? That is what we go through just to put  out "Hello World" for you to click. Go to most Nigeria universities, check out the number of students that are studying Computer Science and Engineering, and tell me how many among them have personal computer or how many the school provided for them. Now compare that to the countries you are judging us with. Instead of insulting them, you should encourage them. Who knows where the next Mark will come from.

Finally, do you mind telling us the area you specialize(e.g doctor, lawyer, engneer, etc) so that we will know if you suck in that field?

Frankly, u don't sound sincere. This sounds more like a traffick pulling gimmick than some altruistic project. How can you have just one song? Is that all you know yourself?

No. Please check this thread. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-756262.0.html

My aim is to bring Igbo Musics in one place. Since I have to maintain the site, do almost everything on the site. I have to admit that I have a limited time. I am working hard to add as much musics as possible. While I add the ones I know, I want people to also tell me the ones they know. I believe with time there will be many available to listen.

I guess maybe I should start adding 50-100 musics per day and see what it will look like in a month time
Webmasters / Why Seun Should Add More Fun To Nairaland by deco2come: 2:32pm On Mar 04, 2012
Someone approached me to help in developing his current project. Along the line we discussed about integrating a forum like Nairaland but here was his response "With 1 in 3 persons wishing that Nigeria should be split up for the sake of peace and unity, what do you think will be the future of such website since every ethnic groups will work on their own, when such a thing happen there is no such thing like Nigeria politics. My friend if you want to help me, please think up of something that can still bring people together no matter what happens in the future"

After thinking about his response, I think there is a little bit of truth in what he said. It is obvious that the section that drives the most traffic to Nairaland is the politics section especially when it has to do with tribalism.

Please Seun consider adding other funs. With the traffic you drive to your site, you should take advantage of it. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

I think PAGAN 9JA got the answer like. When a man is satisfy with what he has, he stop seeking for more. Another reason is because of religion.

Foreign Affairs / Re: African Union Opens a Chinese-funded Hq In Ethiopia by deco2come: 5:02pm On Jan 30, 2012
Upright750:

That is not true. I have live in china for years and what i have seen and understand in factory workers is that you come to work at any time of your choice and go when you like same as your dinner . The main thing is that they have this time calculator that came with one name as card. once you came to work you go and slot the card inside the calculator machine to mark the time you came as well as closing time and lunch time even dinner time which is 6 pm for those that want to work over time and those who don't want over time will go home. meanwhile after every month the time calculation will tell how many hours you have work . if it's up to one month calculation including lunch time which start from 12:00 noon to 1 pm some 1:30 PM . The issue is that most of them came from very poor family and want to work all the hours on earth to earn more money. Now minimum wage in china for any worker at all is 2500 Yen which is 67 000 naira . one Chinese yen is 27 naira. as of 2004 it was 1 Chinese yen is 16 naira but today is 27 naira. That is to tell you how fast their economy is growing and how fast ours is going down. May God help Nigeria.

Get your fact straight bro. You might live in China for years but what you wrote up there isn't completely true. The companies that use those machines also keep rules on the hours. If you missed those hours, you are fired. Companies like Walmart in China doesn't use such machines. People that work in company that produce apple products don't use it. Many companies don't even use the machine.

Haven't you heard of people setting themselves on fire or committing suicide due to their working condition in China? Regarding the minimum wage you are talking about, you need to compare things bro before saying. For instance, places like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, etc where a single room is about 2500rmb which is more then 40,000naira, tell me a place in Nigeria you will see such rent price.

Please let's be really for a moment when comparing things. One love bro
Webmasters / Re: Fireworks Vs Photoshop by deco2come: 8:09am On Jan 23, 2012
Thank guys, actually what I want is doing a few designing which is mainly on web. I will say that I have a limited time. People say that FW is easy and it can do almost 98% web designing work that PS can do and it can do it faster. But the fact that for every one FW tutorial, there are 100 PS drives me crazy. Is it because PS are also used by photographers, catalog/magazine designers and all aspect of designers made it so famous?

Dual Core:

Photoshop was built for major graphics editing.
Fireworks was built for web graphics.

I find FW very easy to use for web graphics. PS na long thing. If you want to invest time learning, could try Photoshop. You cannot master FW and walk into PS and expect to use your FW mastery. You can however master PS and enter into FW with your PS mastery.

My brother I must confess that anytime I opened PS video tutorials/books, I lost spirit of learning it but the moment I close it, I have the urge to learn it for the fear of unknown.

The website is pulling results from database and are there a lot of data e.g users name, services, products, items, streets, locations and all that stuffs. I watched videos on the routing but the problem is that each of them already know what the page name will be so they easily create the re-route part.

Thank you guys for your info. The problem has been resolved.
Currently I am having another issue which is cracking my brain right now. I am trying to change my dynamic url to static url using .htaccess. I tried the methods I found on the net and it is not working on my server.

I tried up to 6 different methods I found on the net but none seem to be working for me. Others are giving positive comments and how successful those methods are working for them but I don't know why mine isn't working.

I contacted my web host support team, after trying for some time, they couldn't fix it. They admit not knowing if the problem is from my script or what.

I am considering leaving dynamic url like that but anytime I see my competitors website ranking top on search engine with nice static url, I don't feel happy with my dynamic url.

Anyone knows how I can solve the issue?

I have a website which I am currently working on. On the website, I don't know what is causing this issue. I noticed that when a user sign out and repeat a task( which can only work if the user is signed in), the website will repeat the task as if the user is sign in.

To make it more clear,

When a user visit the site and try to perform a task which is only possible if the user has signed in, the task won't work. If the user sign in and repeat the task, it will work. But the problem is this, if the user sign out and repeat the task again, the task will still perform again as if the user hasn't logged out. I check the sign out page and everything is fine. The session destroy is ok.

I did something like this, if the user is not logged in /session not set , echo A else echo B

The task will perform despite echo A.

Remember that the user cannot do anything until he/she logged the first time and then logged out, all the drama will start. Please help

The method that I have applied that eliminate spam completely is using the below code

$email = $_POST['email'];
if (!preg_match("/\@(hotmail.com|gmail.com|yahoo.com)$/i", $email) ){
echo 'Email Service Not Allowed';
}

Using this method has eliminated most of the spammers and also give me the choice to choose which email service I need to allow.

Business / Any Website To Get An Exchange Rate Update by deco2come: 8:16am On Dec 23, 2011
I have been searching the internet looking for any of Nigeria banks that keep an up to date exchange rate. For example if I want to go to the bank today and I want to know how much I can exchange the dolar, I want see the information online.

I check GTbank, Zenith Bank, Diamond bank but none of them have a page where you can easily get the exchange rate for today.

Though there are other sites that post the exchange rate, I noticed that their prices are not the same. For example, one site I checked said that 1dollar is equal to 163.93 naira, another said it is 163.00 naira, and the other claim 163.18naira and the funny thing is that all this sites said that their last update was yesterday.

In order to solve this issue, I want to get the information from Nigeria banks just like other international banks do. Does anyone know which of Nigeria banks support this feature.

I am impressed with your solution. I have to admit that there are some few questions I would like to ask. What if the browser/etc cannot catch the REFFERER. As you know, sometimes the user will just type the address in the browser without coming from another page. In such case, what do you think the bg image should be.

What if at some stage the user started developing an application that generates a random pages using the information in the database or somewhere or he has something like this http://www.example.com/folder1/page1.php?check=293493934983. If he try the basename() function, he will get something like page1.php?check=293493934983, what do you think the name of the picture could?
