Ethnicity is the cornerstone of the colonial contraption called Nigeria. One can not discuss the socio-political developments in Nigeria without heavy dosage of tribalism. I guess one of my mentors in Achebe did not forget tribalism and academia officially shook hand in 1965 through the courtesy of Richard Akinjide then minister of education. |
Politics › Re: Ijaws Attack Binis Over Ownership Of Gelegele Land In Edo State by Dede1(m): 12:55pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
ak47mann: By Simon Ebegbulem & Gabriel Enogholase BENIN- Communal clash is brewing between the Bini and Ijaw in Edo State following claims by the Bini that the Ijaw were claiming ownership of the land the Binis gave them as migrant fishermen.
In a petition to the state government, the Enogie of Obazuwa, and brother to the Oba of Benin, who is in charge of most of the territories being annexed and 80 others, said their subjects had been attacked unprovoked by the “settlers.” They added that they had maintained calm because there are court decisions that went as far as the Supreme Court which confirmed that the Binis were the original inhabitants and owners of the land.
According to Akenzua, on June 3, 2011, while the Binis in the area were measuring a land donated to the state government to build a school, “Ijaw militants from Iko” attacked them with machetes, abducted three of his subjects and vandalised property and vehicles in the area.
“The question of who owns Gelegele had gone through litigation and had long been settled. For 50 years, these Ijaw settlers have provoked the Bini. We are finding it increasingly difficult to restrain ourselves from retaliating against these unwarranted attacks by the Ijaw.
“If they refuse to co-exist in harmony with us, they are at liberty to join their kiths and kins in Bayelsa or Rivers states. They must respect the bond of love that binds host and guests.”
VANGUARD NEWSPAPER Ijo is a manipulated ethnic group. It is derived from Jos, a Portuguese term for people of the river. Reasonable percentages of the people who claim Ijo are not Ijo since original boat people were porters who came from Gold Coast with Europeans to the bight of Biafra. Every unadulterated historical record points to the fact that so-called Ijo were either migrant fishermen or porters or boat people who had no pedigree to claim lands offshore. |

Abagworo: @beaf.The funny part of this is that you and I argued it out and I warned in 2009 that if an SNC is not organized,a lot of militia will spring up across the nation. The most dreaded will arise in Akwaibom and could consume this country.Every other of my predictions has occured apart from the Efik/Ibibio militia which might not be far fetched.
True federalism has to be applied based on our present 36 state structure. The bombings will stop and everybody will be happy. That will also reduce the power of the central Government. In order to contemplate the silly idea of national conference, the sense of equality must be created in Nigeria. Since Nigeria has been politically segregated into zones, I demand the each zonal block must have equal number of states because it is politically unfair for certain zones to have more senators than others. After all democracy, among other things, is all about numbers. It is politically insane to insinuate that any form of federalism in Nigeria should be based on 36 states. One can only begin to talk of federalism in Nigeria when all the vying political zones are equal in number of states which shall be pegged at 42, thus 7 states for each zone. There is no doubt Nigeria had a subliminal division based on the original regions such as northern, western and eastern regions. Among these regions, one region has been singled out for denial of befitting International airport. The federal government of Nigeria must erect International airport of MMA or NAA status in eastern region before stepping onto the path of federalism. If these requests are viewed unattainable, I strongly suggest the disintegration of the cesspit called Nigeria. |

Yet some narrow minded forumites construe such illusional grandiose as sensational development. I wonder why the good citizens of Libya would throw such acclaimed “El-dorado” away for an unseen nihilistic and uncertain future
http://seeker401./2010/04/25/basilica-of-our-lady-of-peace-of-yamoussoukro-ivory-coast/ What has gone wrong with you lately? Must every country and its inhabitants practice democracy? If the democracy remotely resembles what awaits Libya in future, I say damn that system of government. I bet you if Libya has no drop of crude oil, NATO and UN would not know it existed. This argument brings to question the essence of structural government of any sort. It is unfortunate God created Africa in dark hence everything about the continent has been perpetually worrisome. It is only the continent its inhabitants could be brainwashed to dislike themselves. What a shame. It is evidential Gaddaffi did not leave Libya worse than colonialists left it. But this can not be said about Nigerian leaders to Nigeria baring none. |

please can you tell us who the palestinian people are and where they originated from?
you are telling what a palestinian is saying that palestinians are the same like other levantine peoples (lebanese, syrian and jordanians) and therefore the state of "palestine" is a pretext to disposess the jews.do you know that you are so annoying and stu.pid?
if the people are the same, does it justify foreign jews from europe and America to come to the middle east and steal land from those people and drive them away?the main problem here is the land theft that occurred and the displacement of millions and the settlements of jews from around the world on land they do not own just because of their faith.you are presenting us with nonsensical accounts from the 16th and 18 centuries from europeans on how deserted palestine was and the need to settle people there.that was a zionist pretext to take over palestine.when the zionists were busy with massacres against innocent palestinians to intimidate them, they lied that these palestinians were arabians who came to steal jewish land.the world later knew that was a jewish lie.
you have in one of your posts repeated what i have told you that the palestinian people like the lebanese and syrians are indigenous to palestine, lebanon and present day syria (all of which used to be considered by the arab as "GREATER SYRIA" .
You keep asking how come places in palestine have jewish names and not arabic?i have told you that both arabic and islam are foreign to palestine.but the people who are known today as palestinians and have adopted islam and arabic are not foreign to that land.generations of arab rule and domination have created a shift.parts of syria, lebanon and palestine used to be ARAMAIC speaking until some centuried ago when the shift to arabic began.the people are indigenous to those lands despite the shift.
you claim to be yoruba but you speak english as the official language and practice christianity.the dress of the palestinians too is traditional and not arabian if you tell me that you still wear agbada.the palestinian food like the lebanese and syrian and even jewish are the same and similar.they are not arabian food.
read the below article from wikipedia on the LEBANESE PEOPLE who are the same with the palestinians and syrians and notice that these peoples are indiggenous to those lands (palestine, syria, and lebanon) and the overwhelming majority of them have jewish/hebrew,roman,greek,canaanite,e.t.c. blood in them and they did not come to arabia.it was islam that met them on their land just as islam met the hausa and yorubas on their land.the impact in the middle east was greater and those people even changed their languages and were "arabized".
my contention with you is to prove that the palestinians, lebanese, syrians, and jordanians are indigenous to palestine, lebanon, syria and jordan.the majority of them did not come from arabia, and the minority that did intermarried with the non-arabia majority to give us the people we have in those places today.just like the jews, those people are also indigenes.infact, the palestinians are more indigenous because they also have blood of canaanite tribes who predate the israelites (jewish ancestors) in their presence in palestine.
please just tell who the palestinian people are and where they originated from and i am done with you.do you agree or disagree that they are indigenous to palestine? i dont care who ruled over them.but the ordinary people who live there belong there.yes or no?
READ ON WHO THE LEBANESE PEOPLE ARE AND WHERE THEY ORIGINATED FROM JUST LIKE THE PALESTINIANS AND THE SYRIANS :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebanese_people
also note that i dont care if you call those people palestinian, lebanese or syrian.i dont care whether they are the same or not.i dont care if they are in 3 countries which the europeans created.the europeans divided the middle east like africa into countries and separated the people.israel itself like nigeria and every land the europeans colonized were made into countries by the europeans.otherwise africa too would have less boundaries.the fact is there are people in what is known as palestine who have being dispossessed of their ancestral land and replaced by foreigners.you dont tell me that hausa dont belong to kano state because you find hausas in ghana.and you dont use that as a pretext to steal land in kano and give it to traditional worshippers.you are telling us that because palestinians are the same as lebanese and syrians, they should go away from palestine where they have lived.these people are found where they lived.you dont steal some of their lands and give it to jews and tell them to move away to the lands others like them who were arabized own.that is still land theft. These statements portray you as ill-informed commentator. Pleas engage in rudimentary research of the issues about the entire restate called Palestine and stop peddling with deceptive junks on the pages of obscure sources. |
I would want to rate you an intellectual but your post is stating otherwise, comparing northern and southern Nigeria is ludicrous even a Non-Nigerian who had never visited Nigeria would know better and don't you think variables like literacy rate, poverty rate, access to basic health facilities, economic activity etc. are better factors determing a good standard of living and not merely a federal parastatal? Ol'boy you don fall my hand
I really do not care how you rate me. However, I had really wanted to view the term “development” in a trivial manner with respect to all sections of Nigeria but reality seems to dictate otherwise.
There is general misunderstanding of certain words Nigerians tend to employ generously to connote situation far from the actual meaning of the word. For example, literacy or illiteracy, word that has difference meaning from its usage.
If anybody could read or write, the person is literate. Note, it did not say if anybody could read or write only in English language. There are more literates in northern region than in southern Nigeria because majority of northerners could read and write in either Arabic, Hausa, Fulfulde or English.
The northern region of Nigeria can not possibly have higher poverty rate than southern region of Nigeria when economic policies of the Nigeria since independence have been determined by majority of leaders from northern region who had made sure that localization of everything that leverages economic growth is situated in the northern region. This "lag behind" crap is the same conniving trick that initially saw quota system in education and military.
What nonsensical access to basic health facilities in southern region are you talking about? Thousands of people die in southern region of Nigeria for lack of basic healthcare needs as they do in northern region.
What constitutes economic activity? I must categorically state besides seaport, northern region of Nigeria has more government sponsored, at any level, factors that engender economic activities than southern region of Nigeria.
From the biggest Crude oil refinery in Africa, Military installations including advance staff colleges, International airports, Motor vehicle assembly plants, Irrigational dams, Hydro-electric dams, Food processing industries, Agriculture, Mining industries, University teaching hospitals to institution of higher learnings, northern region trumps southern region. Please forget about the individual achievements and entrepreneurships which may tilt to southern region of Nigeria, northern region does not lag behind in any human endeavor in cesspit called Nigeria.
Nigerians should not be fooled with strict adherence to tradition and culture by northerners as oppose to southerners. Appearance is notoriously deceptive. |

Your argument is baseless and lacks focus. We have acknowledged the fact that the north has ruled Nigeria for over 30yrs, but nothing to show for it. They have produced all the 'heads of all the top offices' in Nigeria but nothing to show for it, after holding the top offices they have remained so backward educational and otherwise. They have remained one of the poorest regions in Africa. The level of poverty in the north can only be compared to the somalia, chad etc. That few people are rich in the north does not make sense, its called abnormal curve in economics, where as you have what is called normal curve in the south especially the SE, where the income is spread evenly amongst the citizenry, unlike in the north where few people are rich while the greater number of the population are swimming in the ocean of poverty. It is this same army of poor and unlettered populace in the north that are being used by their leaders to spearhead the boko haram, terrorism and their political career. The self-glorifying mindset you poured on your post, as shown above, is the reason the south-east does not have a single federal presence in the zone. If Lagos,by chance of wit. should be thrown out of equation of development in the Nigeria, northern region will soundly trump all southern regions combined in development. It will take a mad dictator from eastern region to rule Nigeria for forty (40) years in order to bring south eastern region to half the development seen in northern region. Is there anything industrially or politically imaginable not situated in northern region except seaport because there is no ocean? Pal, I do not give a ratarse if all demographic segments of northern region did not see the four walls of western civilization-styled institution, northern region of Nigeria is developed in terms of economic infrastructures situated in the region. Every imaginable government parastatal required to give regions leverage as far as development is concerned could be pointed out by a blind person in northern region of Nigeria. |

Anybody who remotely insinuates northern region of Nigeria lags behind in any human endeavor within or outside Nigeria should be summarily shot. Northern region of Nigeria outpaces any other region in Nigeria as far as the eyes could reach.
It has the highest or equals any region in number of heads of state, president, prime minister, cabinet ministers, permanent secretaries, ambassadors, federal establishments, industries, universities, speakers, armed forces senior officers, top police officers and millionaires produced or situated in Nigeria.
In my book, northern region is shoulder and head above other regions within Nigeria in terms of development. The talk of northern region lagging behind is the most cynical and conniving statement out of the cesspit called Nigeria. |

But pace him or her for a moment, the truth will be told in a broad daylight. I followed your post and suddenly you showed traits that made you a true Nigerian or partially. I do not know if you realize every Nigerian whose faith is Christianity or Islam remains a convert.
