Akintola was a political lover peddler. Yoruba and Akintola went to bed with northern region and one wonders what you people have discovered that instigates this late hour hatred for northern region.

NO DOUBT NORTHERNERS WERE KILLING IGBO LIKE FOWLS before the war started- but what can I say the coup WAS an "igbo coupe"

and igbos did kill EVERY premier of EVERY REGION.

that was just dumb-
It is a dumb act to slide under the act of denial. Many corpse of Yoruba stock were dropped off at Lagos/Iddo railway terminal. They were not Ndigbo. Ndigbo chose to fight while Yoruba chose to go to bed with northern region politicians and soldiers.

what son of the soil was murdered? are you talking about Akintola that was murdered by the "igbo coup"
Are you this forgetful? I meant Lt. Col Francis Fajuyi the then military governor of western region of Nigeria.
Politics › Re: Zoning: Northern Elders Issue 2-week Ultimatum To Pdp by Dede1(m): 4:40pm On Sep 18, 2010
I do not know much about Fajuyi but I had been informed he was a progressive officer. There were three set of Yoruba stock that earned my utmost respect. They are Wole Soyinka, Lt. Col Ayo Ariyo and Ijabu Ode cocoa farmers association. Wole stood against Nigerian war policy towards Biafar and secretly visited Biafra before jailed by Nigerian government led by Gowon.

Lt. Col Ayo Ariyo, one of the finest officers Nigerian had ever produced. He was Sandhurst trained military officer and was 2ic of 3MCDO in Calabar. After short stay in Calaber in 1967, Ariyo left for Lagos and resigned his commission from Nigerian army instead of fighting Ndigbo and Biafrans. I urge every person to remember the family of Ariyo. I heard his son was given a title in Igbo land.

The peasant Ijabu Ode farmers staged was strongest protest against Gowon and Nigerian army in 1967. It took the battle tested elements of 8th battalion under Major Ochefu to subdue them.

These Yorubas are saying they will go to war. Please. . . All talk.

Did they go to war when the Abiola was thrown in jail? NO

Did they go to war when Abacha (Known Yoruba Hater) was killing their people? NO

These Yorubas are on their own. No Igbo will join them. Heck no Niger Delta will join them except for the Ijaws. Let them reap what they sow.

Ude and Ikengawo. . . No Igbo shall join that cause. The Treachery of the Yoruba is still fresh in our mind.
Even when the son of soil was murdered in Ibadan and many beautiful Yoruba women awkwardly hammered by drunken soldiers of Nigerian army from northern region of Nigeria, there was no fight from them. Yet the people were either busy swelling the ranks of Nigerian army to fight Biafra or lecturing us how July 29, 1966 coup was targeted against Ndidgbo.

^^^
The so-called retaliatory coup and blood shed were undoubtably directed against Igbos. The genocide in the north was against Igbos, the counter-attack was directed mostly against Igbo officers, and even today, many of the counter-coupist insist, and falsely too that the Igbos were responsible for everything that went wrong in the first place.

I have no doubt that some Yoruba officer might have been aware of the first coup, or even accessories to it, but everybody knows the retaliation was primarily against Indigbo. Also, I don't deny that some of the counter-coupist might have had a thing or two against Fajuyi in the first place, but there's abundant historical facts to show that the attack at Ibadan was primarily against Ironsi.
Did you read anything in the text that stated the coup was against Yoruba, Igbo, Tiv or Kanuri? The coup was against the government of Nigeria which was headed by Ironsi.
While would coup plotters sought for Ironsi? Was he a participant in Januaru 15, 1966 coup?

Should Ironsi be targeted in any coup during the era in discuss? Of course, Ironsi should be targeted because he was GOC of Nigeria army and later C-in-C and Head of State. In accordance with military parlance, high ranking officers with command positions and occupying strategic positions in military Headquarters are targets to coup plotters.

Also, the coup was wrongly perceived as retaliatory episode against the officers’ military cadre that was dominated by Ndigbo. The coup was also, in part, directed to anybody whom the coup plotters wrongly or rightly perceived to have had a hand in January 15, 1966 coup. The aforementioned coup of January 15, 1966 was never and will not be an Igbo coup because all the military officers involved were not Igbo but dominated by officers of Igbo stock and rightfully so.

The coup plotters knew who was who within the armed forces. The plotters of July 29, 1966 coup were not zombies as most people would want us to believe. The northern region elements in the armed forces of Nigeria knew it will amount to irreparable blunder if they would allow two progressive military governors, Fajuyi and Ojukwu, standing after a coup that had eliminated the C-in-C.

Let me make it abundantly clear that if Fajuyi had been alive, there would have been no civil war in Nigeria. I had wished July 29. 1966 coup plotters had precipitated the coup during Ironsi’s tour of northern region.

Its not smart to pitch your tent with people that are out to kill you wink
If you really study what happened in 1967, the north region was not interested in fighting eastern region. They encouraged the southerners to do the fighting for them. The 1st Division of Nigerian army was a containment force to protect southeast plank of the northern region border if Nigeria will disintegrate into three countries.

Again, my concern centers on the readiness of Ndigbo in case Nigeria goes ablaze.

There will never be unity in southern Nigeria as it is known in the northern Nigeria. I am very happy the real northern Nigerians are drawing the line on the issue. My only problem is the status of Ndigbos' preparation  in case Nigeria takes the path of chaos.

@Metalgong

According to PDP clauses, the northern region has every right to claim its presidential mantle. If there should be any war as a result of the recent political tussle and Ndigbo appear to be undecided on what to do, I shall waste no time to pitch my tent with northern region of Nigeria.

This arrant nonsense is based on wild and unfounded accusations which typified the behavior of Nigerians during the war. They could not muster any form of intelligent operations unless led through the nose by the British operatives. When Nigerians are taken to the task of naming the Biafran battalion, brigade, division or commander of the units that committed the killing, they fall like pack of cards.

The Brafrans had intelligent reports of three killings of unarmed civilians at Asaba, Ogba/Egbama and Ogidi. The Biafran intelligent operatives were able to identify the units and senior commanding officer of the formation that committed the atrocity.

In fact, Nigeria is full of jokers.

i disgree nigeria didnt recieve anything cruciial from those countries. because most of the war where people died was bloodless.

the war was never really fought and not that much people died from actual combat- thats one of the pros about the war. it wasnt bloody one.

@good from gowon he was there in 1966 for nigeria and he is still here for our beloved country
There were more than battalion of combatant soldiers from Niger and Chad. I knew one Major form Chad who was involved with the coup that sent Murtala Mohammed to his grave.

The British war assistant to Nigeria was uncountable. There was one Lt Cmdr. Cox who joined Lt Cmdrs Soroh, Aduwo and Abdulahi in hunt for Lt Cmdr. Ebitu Ukaiwe who navigated away with one of Nigerian frigates.

On the diplomatic front, British were doing everything to support Nigeria.

Have you asked yourself what brought about the saga of Bakassi Peninsula? Ahmadu Ahidjo of Cameroun, who was rumored to hail from Adamawa, did everything to block Biafran eastern flank.

USSR oversupplied Nigeria with AK-47 and MIG 21 that Apapa Wharf was jammed with damaged military hardware.

Nigeria did not have many pilots who can fly the MIG fighters after young Igbo pilots left for eastern region. This is where the Egyptians, under the pretence of Muslim brotherhood, joined the fight.  There were few Australian MIG pilots. However, Nigerian had one capable MIG fight pilot in the person of Flight Lieutenant Gbadamosi King who was a Yoruba.

Arab League of Nations made sure money was not an issue for Nigeria to acquire military hardware since the war was regarded as a jihad to them.

Now, if you have better intelligent source feel free to educate us.

This is not about Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa or Kanuri. The issue in discuss is about factual facts concerning the history of Nigeria not about political peddlers who want to make political hay. It is said that the past is prologue.

This crap is laughable. The whereabouts of Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Military Governor of western region of Nigeria were not known to the large cross-section of Nigerians until about two weeks or more. This nonsensical rumor was a brainchild of western regional government publication of 1967. This goofy nonsense did show up in 1966 but 1967 when western and mid-western regions had joined the fight on northern region side to prosecute the war against eastern region.

When the USA’s civil war ended, the Union took care of all soldiers who fought the war be them Confederate or Union soldiers.

We were practising true federalism with each region taking care of its developement until Ironsi "reluctantly" came to power in Jan 17th 1966 and in May 24th 1966 (4months later) without even holding a plebiscite, promulgated Decree 34 which essentially was a unification law as favoured and canvassed for by NCNC in their hitherto political manifesto.

Source=======>www.gamji.com/nowa/nowa25.htm
Why are you twisted out of human form, pal? I salute Nowa Omogui for palatable write-ups but his works were not gospel. I do not think that Decree 34 was a progenitor of centralized government but a unification code which ironically is what we are practicing today in Nigeria.

Even if Col Francis Fajuyi was a toddler who insisted to accompany his father to a wedding ceremony by crying and holding to his father’s pant, the description given to Fajuyi’s false act of refusing to leave Ironsi’s side could have pale in comparison.

Lt. Cols Fajuyi and Ariyo were combatants of Yoruba stock who earned my respect. Fajuyi was targeted for his alleged involvement with January 15, 1966 coup.

You can laugh in Yoruba, Ijo, Efik, Edo, Urhobo, Itsekiri, Fulde, Hausa, Tiv, Igala, Idoma. Nupe or Kanuri, you made no sense with the phrase about Ojukwu being experienced soldier.

Baring the enormous aide from Britain, USSR, Cameroun, Niger, Chad, Egypt and Arab League of Nations, Nigeria's numerical strength notwithstanding, Gowon and Nigeria could not have defeated Biafra.

If Ojukwu did not stand up for Ndigbo in particular and easterners in general, he would have died by now. Things worked in the various regions before the mishap of '66 when Ironsi gave us centralised govt.
My initial post was more of a compliment than sarcasm. You were really impressive with the piece. However, they say Leopard can not change its spots.

Ironsi did not give you centralized government as he left the regions alone. It was your Godfather, Gowon, who introduced centralized government by breaking the country in states with powerful central government.
