Why are you coming to America for goodness sake when your choice places are overflowing with gold in whatever rock you live? You cannot even fit into a decent Nigerian society, talk less of America who dash your efulefu monkey groundnuts? You are my slave if you use a computer, a phone, fly in a plane, a car, a TV, any semiconductor or piece of software. You see people don't wake up here to think of their tribe but get to work. Bottomline is don't come and pollute this atmosphere with your vileness and evil KKK life. tongue tongue

dayokanu: I agree with Ekt bear

I think most Nigerians who come to the US are middle class at the minimum.

First most of them are literate hence their ability to pass a visa interview. Almost all of them have at least a high School and some higher education maybe Technical college or Nursing school.

And a significant part of them have college degrees.

What percentages of Nigerians in Nigeria have college degrees vs Nigerians in Diaspora that have a college degree

How many times do you see ppl of the caliber of Market women, labourers or Almajiris get visas to go to the US

By extension children tend to achieve at least what their parents achieve educationally. If your parents have High school degrees, Its almost impossible for you not to have a High school degree or more

Ekt, I think this point holds for Indians too or are they classified with Asians? I believe if Indians are taken separately they would be higher than Nigerians cos Hardly do you see Indians doing menial jobs and most white collar professions they form a huge part of the foreign quota e.g medicine, Finance, IT(>>60%), Pharmacy.

Not common to find an indian flipping burgers or sweeping the road
This is a yawn from another confused fellow. I know many Nigerians who earned degrees of any strata yet their parents were peasant farmers or market women that never saw four walls of elementary school. In the neck of my woods, it borders on individual determination to achieve laurels in academic despite the wicked presence of poverty.

Not too sure how old you are. But are you saying that your parents were not amongst the upper echelon of education in Nigeria?

The problem is I think some of you are defining "elite" only by the amount of money in someone's pocket.

But the way the world has been for the past 30 or 40 years of so, this isn't the case...if you have brains but no money, you can easily earn an excellent salary.

If your parents went to somewhere like UNN or whatever the best Eastern Nigerian schools were at that time, then I'm not sure it is fair to pretend as if you are just an ordinary guy, or the child of ordinary folk undecided

Not many were able to do what your parents did..[/quote]I disagree with your scenario of having “brains but no money, you can easily earn an excellent salary” as it pertains to a society such as Nigeria. This scenario can be obtainable in well-structured and organized society where brainy chaps are harnessed and poverty does not constitute a road block.

What your scenario has given Nigeria are the so-called yahoo-yahoo boys, kidnapers, call-girls and gangsters as university students, 419ers, bad government, extremely hustling group of people willing to pull off any job for money and dysfunctional society.

FACE: Some of you guys are very silly. The OP and some other people keep opening threads that leave people to wonder how some of you guys reason.

Afam or whatever you call yourself, you ought to be ashamed that you are a novice in the topic you wish to discuss.

One of the first responses you got from this silly topic was from someone, Alhaji Harem or whatever, who told you that Gowon built Nkalagu cement factory for you after the civil war and some other rubbish he said and you conceded that nonsense to him and continued to open your flanks for unwarranted attacks.

Afam, are you a dunce or does Seun give you guys money to come up with diiotic topics to keep this useless forum alive ? Who does not know that Nkalagu cement was established by eastern region govt and was the first cement factory in Nigeria ? Due to your idiocy and lack of knowledge, you let some infant give Gowon credit for one of Okpara's achievements, who also established Golden Guinea Breweries, Ceramic Industry, PH (trans Amadi) industrial estate, presidential hotel PH, Hotel presidential Enugu,Calabar cement, defunct Eastern Nigeria University alongside other achievements within the same era.

I am not going to ask you and your cohorts to stop making floos of yourselves, but a word is enough for the wise.
This stupid drivel is simply not needed. I guess the items you listed were the only Okpara’s achievements. Must an OP respond to any crap posted by a numskull?

ow11: 1. You are right about the Tutsis however, the war isn't being used as a rallying point

2. I wrote about the Algerian war to highlight the indifference younger Algerians have towards the French that many years ago were enemies and committed atrocities.

3. MASSOB is fighting a just cause if they highlight the travails of the average Igbo man and they do and I would prefer to see threads talking about strategies to either tip the power balance towards the SE or a new country but goodness me, rehashing misdeeds about the war is not necessary and can increase animosity and bitterness.
I have a Tutsi friend and been to Kigali. Do not tell me about what is a rally point to them. It appears the Europeans such as British knew what is good for Croats, Bosnians, Slovenians, Montenegro and Kosovo but same was not good for Biafrans.

It is rather foolish than prudent to ask as a matter of just cause for MAASOB to highlight the travails of the average Igbo man. Which group hightlighted the travails of average Croats, Bosnians, Slovenians, Montenegro and Kosovo man in the former Yugoslavia?

The Nigeria/Biafra war was a reality of life and it carries some burdens. The burden can not and will never be wished away. The only way to even minimize the burden will be actualization of Biafra or Republic of Igbo land. As long as Nigeria keeps wobbling into the path of emptiness, the animosity generated by Nigeria/Biafra war will attend a feverish peach.

ow11: Rwanda is the only sub saharan country that will achieve their MDGs by 2015. They wouldn't be achieving that If their ordinary folk( from where the leaders actually come from) are bent on getting a payback from the Hutu dominated government. OR basically writing blogs and sharing videos and pictures of the violence as displayed by many Nigerians that are stuck in 1970.

Bosnia-Herzegovina has a growing economy but is still very poor (like ours) but they are only planning to hold a memorial and not sharing violent pictures and videos or asking for a retribution. The muslims, croats and serbs are in the government together building the country. The youths go to school together and the younger generation (which you are supposed to belong to in our own case) do not talk about the war as passionate and bitter as you do. Check http://www.dw.de/dw/article/0,,15862279,00.html

Algeria suffered a lot during their war of independence as did many Libyans but the only generation which hold some form of bitterness towards the French or Italians are those that fought or lived through the war. The youths aren't even interested (Hell even Zidane played football for France).

No one is saying the Igbos didn't get a raw deal before, during and the immediate aftermath of the war but given the circumstances, It would do all of us a big favour if our generation try to solve our inherited problems and leave the war bitterness for old men in the village to talk about in with anger, disappointment or some glorious battle victories.
You have foolishly written what Biafrans such as MASSOB and reasonable Igbo people are trying very hard to achieve. It is a needed situation where the so-called Nigeria or Oodua or Arewa and Biafra would live side by side while building their countries. Nigeria/Biafra war was not a war of independence but separation of nation states

ow11: Good Heavens! What a bunch of whiny bitter posters we have on NL. . . . embarassed

Wars have been fought throughout the ages, Countries have been destroyed and innocent lives lost but the difference between those nationals and the OP is that many have moved on.

I can even wager that the OP was born after 1970 but he is so bitter about something he never experienced and is determined to keep re-opening that wound till thy kingdom come. The Bosnian Muslims and Croats have moved on, The Tutsis have moved on after only 18 years but 42 years later someone is opening a thread asking for retribution and to moan and whine about a sad part of our national history.

@afam4eva, You need to get over this war. Discuss current national politics or something else. I still believe Nigerians will be better off if this nation divded into bits but come on, this latching onto a bloody horrible war that killed millions 42 years ago is not a way to start. angry
This is a typical and illogical analogy Nigerians are noted. If Biafra was a country, I do not think issues pertinent to Nigeria/Biafra war should engender acrimony as it does today. Rwanda has move on because the Tutsis who received the initial brunt of genocide found themselves on top of the food chain and judiciously corrected the wrongs done to them. In former Yugoslavia, Bosnians and Croats have their independent countries which soothe the war pains.

Until Biafra or Republic of Igbo land is actualized, those who call Nigeria/Biafra war era to be forgotten shall remain nincompoops.

I believe the major reason why Nigeria does not get the right credit it deserves is the totally useless, generational bad leadership, poor followership leading to a poor image in the international community. One of the most popular pure water I know (atleast in Lagos and Kano) is daily pure water. I happen to know the owner, The owner not make big millions every month.
