Usually, I don't dignify these kind of tantrums with a response but I am moved by your ignorance to offer a measure of response. First, you talked about insecurity. It must be acknowledged that this govt is facing a peculiar security challenge in the history of our nation. None other has had to grapple with the harsh reality of fighting suicide terrorism by a section of the country who feels betrayed in the political dynamics of the preceding elections. That notwithstanding, the president has managed to contend with them and keeps Nigeria moving as one free secular state contrary to their will. Secondly, you talked about fuel increase. It beats me hollow that even in the face of obvious realities, massive corruption and NUPENG/Oil Marketers conspiracy, you still harbour the illusion that fuel subsidy is sustainable. Kpele. Jonathan's govt seriously wants to reform the oil sector. They seek to achieve this by deregulating the downstream sector. For deregulation to commence, subsidy must go and govt will cease to regulate prices. In a deregulated market, forces of supply and demand will determine pump price. Not govt. In a deregulated market, there will be private sector participation in refineries. When private refineries come on board, importation will end. When importation ends, fuel pump price will not exceed 50 Naira. A deregulated market is competitive and customer is king. Above all, it offers massive employment opportunities Thirdly, you said the introduction of 5000 Naira notes will devalue our Naira without offering any logical economic reason in support of your claim. I am not an economist but I have a sense of history. I recall that this argument has always been put forward each time a policy like this props up but it doesn't add up later. Fourthly, you said unemployment. You and I know that unemployment for our teeming 150 million population has been a problem ever before GEJ took over power as elected president. There is no statistics to show that it has worsened. But we can attest to sincere efforts of this govt to curb it. First, The recurrent expenditure profile of 2012 budget was cut by 12% to fund capital projects which is intended to curb unemployment. Secondly, some of these capital projects are visible in the refurbishment of 6 power stations under the NIPP which has boosted power generation to an all time high of 4,477 megawatts. The significant improvement in power is a catalyst for job creation and the growth of SME's. I don't want to talk about YOUWIN projects because you will say its all politics until you benefit from it. I don't want also to talk about the massive recruitment going on in Civil Defence, police, navy, air force, immigrations because you will say its only for GEJ's Godsons. But I will surely talk about the agricultural reforms, the cassava bread revolution, the fertilizer distribution voucher system, which has eliminated the fertilizer cabal, and increased access to fertilizer in open market to farmers. I will talk about the 400 billion CBN agricultural Loans being currently accessed by genuine farmers across the country. These are policy directions which any unemployed can key into if not for our crase for white collar jobs. The ongoing PRIVATISATION of PHCN holds serious prospects for employment of our ypuths too. Foriegn investors have besieged Nigeria to participate in the process. Already, there is SEIMENS, GENERAL ELECTRIC, BRASILIAN ELECTROBUS etc Fifthly, you said corruption. It is on record that this govt took the first bold step in Nigeria's history to self probe the oil sector. For the first time in history, Nigerians are seeing the prosecution of oil thieves and exposure of the oil cabal. Even sons of influential members of the ruling party are not spared. This govt passed the FOI to increase public access to information about govt. our budgets are everywhere for everyone to see and discuss. Subsidy claims are no longer drawn on first line charge basis but captured in the budget. Nothing is secret. NNPC IS NO LONGER A SECRET CULT. Right from the prosecution of Speaker Bankole in the early days of this administration down to the Trial of Akala, Gbenga Daniel & ex governors to police pension suspects and now subsidy suspects, the EFCC has been busy. It's now left for the judiciary to live up to its duty. In Education, GEJ has increased funding to an all time high of 400 billion. In addition to this, he has in one year fulfilled his promise of establishing 9 new federal universities. He has also constructed 2 new campuses of the Nigerian law school in Yola and Yenagoa. He has set up a state of the art Almajiri school for Muslim pupils in Sokoto and more are to be built across the North. Settled all outstanding issues and disputes with ASUU hence the relative absence of strikes. |
State police is the present excesses and brutality of the Nigerian police force raised by the power 36. I pray we don't have that misfortune |
BetaThings: This is a not good enough. Bring the big guns your phobia for truth, and those who vend it, is not properly veiled. So I wont waste my time joining issues with you on this score. |
BetaThings: ThisDay, Guardian, Vanguard, BusinessDay - all based in Lagos. Owned by South South PeopleTalk about the fallacy of begging the question. Mr Betathings, I expected you to do better than this. What has this your thesis on media ownership got to do with the issues raised by Mr. president. This misadventure can only come from someone who is smarting from an early morning dose of ganja. Please go back and read the topic. It's not about media ownership but the abuse of press freedom for misinformation and falsehood. A classical case in point is the daily propaganda and lies that SAHARA REPORTERS have come to feed us. In this forum, we have come to grapple with the harsh reality of being misled into discussing some fictitous topics generated from them. From their fake report on Patience Jonathan blocking the airspace resulting in Dana crash to their Fake reporting of a bomb that never went off in an Abuja night club, that media group has indeed been a SHOPRITE OF LIES. It is also an insult on our sensibilities to label THISDAY, CHANNELS, TRIBUNE as pro Jonathan media houses just because they don't give the SAHARA like fictions that suits your fancy. |
LoveKing: sorry for quoting your long post but you were not so intelligent to see the sarcasm in the OP. See yourself as the opposition then you'll understand. Moreover the piece is from ipaidabribe.com, maybe you dont know who they are and what they stand for.My broda, I don't know ooo. Just educate me on who they are. I just gave an honest opinion and it behoves on you to counter the facts I gave. I don't care about whether the Op was sarcastic or not. All I know is that I responded with facts of genuine achievements of Gej in one year. And I await your response on the facts raised |

I have found out that there is nothing this govt will do that will please avowed critics First they crticised GEJ for not having the balls to probe the cabal. when they saw that GEJ had defied that sinister predictions, by setting up the AIG committee, the story changed. Next they alleged that the AIG committee was another of such committees which will come and go without a report. To their shock, AIG submitted his report. When the president sought to give protesting markerters a last opportunity to defend themselves through the review panel, the critics went to town shouting that it is a plan by the president to kill the report. They made a mockery of the review committee deriding it as a committee upon committee for a committe by a committee. At last, the AIG Committee submitted it's final report indicting additional companies excluded in the corruption tainted FACROOK report. The critics changed tunes immediately. The new song was that the report was not going to be implemented and has been consigned into the dustbin of history. Even when the President had forwarded the list to EFCC for investigation and prosecution, the critics still said it was all drama and a charade. The EFCC came and announced those indicted including the sons of National leaders of the ruling party. The critics said the anti graft agency was just playing to the gallery and that such calibre of suspects will be hidden from prosecution. Next we saw EFCC charge the Son's of Ahmadu Ali and TUKUR to court, the story now changed again. This time they're predicting that the accused persons will escape justice. Some have even ascribed unto Jonathan the powers of a judge. In their ignorance and low minds, GEJ will still preside over their trial and convict them hence the continuous abuse of the president over the ongoing court processes. In this story, we have all read in the last paragrapgh how the EFCC lawyers put up a spirited argument against the grant of bail to Tukur's son. The case has been adjourned till tomorrow for ruling. if the judge decides to rule against EFCC and grant the accused person's bail. The critics will again rush to this forum to blame Jonathan. HABA! Let me add to this list of achievements. GEJ has really been magical in the past one year in office. MASSIVE RECONSTRUCTION OF OUR MAJOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS INCLUDING CAR PARK EXPANSIONS AND DOMESTING WING OF ABUJA AIRPORT AWARD AND COMMENCEMENT OF CONSTRUCTION OF LAGOS-KANO RAILWAY LINE INCLUDING THE ABUJA -KADUNA LIGHT RAIL WHICH IS NEARING 35% COMPLETION. REFURBISHMENT OF IHOVBOR,OMOTOSHO, OLORUNSHOGO,SAPELE, GEREGU,EGBEMA, GBARAIN,OMOKU, ALAOJI , ALAOJI POWER STATIONS WHICH HAS LED TO AN ALL TIME HIGH GENERATION OF 4237 MEGAWATTS. SIGINIFICANTLY, POWER HAS IMPROVED IN NIGERIA AND THE FG IS TARGETING 9000 MEGAWATTS BY DECEMBER WHEN MAMBILLA AND ZUNGERU COME ON STREAM MASSIVE ENERGY REFORMS WITH THE FORMULATION OF A NEW COMPREHENSIVE PIB, ONGOING REFHABILITATION OF REFINERIES, REFURBISHMENT AND REOPENING OF NNPC DEPOTS WHICH HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR A DECADE, MASSIVE AND REGULAR SHAKE UP OF NNPC AND PPPRA, PROBE AND EXPOSURE OF THE OIL CABAL THAT HAVE HELD NIGERIAN PETROLUEM SECTOR HOSTAGE FOR YEARS, PLANS TO DEREGULATE AND UNBUNDLE NNPC, PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP DEALS WITH VULCAN ENERGY FOR THE BUILDING OF 6 NEW REFINERIES. ONGOING PRIVATISATION OF PHCN, RECONCESSIONING OF AIRPORT MANAGEMENT FROM UNDERPERFORMING MAEVIS, FIRST EVER PROSECUTION OF OIL THIEVES IN NIGERIA INCLUDING SONS OF PDP LEADERS. MASSIVE PORT REFORMS AND SANITISATISATION WHICH HAS EASED OPERATIONS AND RECUCED THE NUMBER OF DAYS FOR CLEARING OF GOODS IN THE PORTS. HE HAS EVEN BUILT A DEDICATED BRIDGE LINKING LIVERPOOL ROUNDABOUT INTO TIN CAN ESTABLISHMENT OF NINE NEW FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES AND INCREASE OF EDUCATION FUNDING TO AN ALL TIME HIGH OF 400 BILLION. PLUS THE UPGRADE OF RETIREMENT AGE OF LECTURERS FROM 65 to 70. GEJ HAS ALSO SETTLED ALL OUTSTANDING ISSUES WITH ASUU HENCE THE NEAR ABSENCE OF STRIKES. LAUNCHING OF THE ALMAJIRI SCHOOL SYSTEM WITH THE FIRST STATE OF THE ART SCHOOL FACILITY IN SOKOTO FOR ITENERANT MUSLIM PUPILS IN THE NORTH. |
LOL, chill out. I don't want to know, I do know instead. THe point is, there is no operational interceptors here. Nigeria has 910,768 sq km territory, 13,000 sq km territorial waters, and 4047 km of borders. For the country of this size, you need at least 4 to 6 pairs of aircrafts in the air at any given moment, plus at least 3 times that number on stand-by and under maintenance... Nigeria has many transport planes (C5 or C130), but I highly doubt it has any fighter jet that is fully operational and has enough supplies (spare parts, ammo etc).
What about the fighter jets that they use for displays during the jubilee anniversary and inauguration ceremony? I'm sure they do have. |
Especially in the north. The aerial surveillance of our borders with chad and Niger should be strengthened. The president is really firing on all cylinders. |
Good one Mr. President. Such performance evaluation is necessary and it is in the overall interest of the nation. |
Gradually, the NLC and NUPENG is betraying their interest in this whole subsidy drama. It will be recalled that in January, labour had gone on strike over govt's decision to withdraw subsidy. Both NLC and civil society groups called for a probe of the massive fraud in the subsidy regime. The Fg heeded the calls and inaugurated the AIG IMOUKHEDE committee which probed the sector and indicted 25 oil marketers. Shockingly, since after the FG resolved not to pay further subsidy payments to those indicted, NUPENG constituted itself to the advocates of these indicted oil cabal. NLC has made a somersault to equally back these oil fraudsters insisting that it is their rights to be paid. My question then is, which way Nigeria? Let's close this window of corruption called subsidy. NO. Let's punish those indicted in the subsidy scam. No otherwise we go on strike. SMH* |
Wow,so sad,and see how beautiful the lady in question is,did she really need Facebook to make friends,, |
It's so funny how we make a mountain out of every mole hill erected by the president. This shows how confused and jobless some folks can be. Until now, I didn't know we have these number of pagans in Nigeria. Simply because the president asked, in a Muslim festive season, that we should keep praying hence this hairsplitting. Tufaikwa! I beg to ask some few questions. Did the president say he was going to abdicate his constitutional duties for prayers? Did the president say he has asked all ministers to stop working and proceed to a praying and fasting session? Has the president withdrawn JTF from Maidugri and asked them to go and pray? Has the president directed Okonjo Iweala to stop implementing the budget for prayers? Has the president directed Barth Nnaji to stop improving on power supply and proceed to mountain of fire for prayers? Has Maku come to tell us that the Federal Executive Council resolved to go and pray? Please let's stop this rubbish and be wise for once |
People will never learn from history. In our democratic experience, certain principles have striven for mastery. One, is the fact that an incumbent always wins his re election. Two, is that where the incumbent has exhausted his term, the choice of his predecessor is largely influenced by him and determined few months to Election. Three,No person has ever made a strategic plan to win presidency years before the Election and succeeds. Four, the less you bid for a position, the more likely you are to grab it. |
Sealeddeal: I think the failure of GeJ regime may begin here.he has actually stepped on the toe of the big ones.he may be trying to drag the lions by the tail.well, democracy is not enough to fight corruption in nigeria.this issue,if govt is serious, may continue to linger for years.the best way to fight corruption remains closing the holes thru which its carried out.remove subsidy completely and follow the recommendation of House of Reps. indict and so on are just child play.nothing will happen.I align with this position. The publication of these names or the prosecution of the cabal, though laudable, is not exactly the solution to the problem. Subsidy removal is the only way forward. Close this window of corruption called subsidy. Once it's closed, only genuine importers will engage in the business of importation. Private individuals will then go into building refineries. When private refineries are built, prices will come down and importation will end. There will be massive employment in the refineries and competition will make the masses king. |
El Rufai likes grabbing attention with these headlines. |
Reforms. Reforms. Reforms. That is what transformation agenda is all about. When I listed as part of GEJ's achievements last month the ongoing refurbishment of power plants and the strategic gas link up induced by upward review of electricity tariffs, so many wanted to chunk my head off. But gradually it is manifesting. We are witnessing improved power generation owing to the aggressive infrastructure expansion and gas supply plans. It is not yet Uhuru. This is just a tip of the iceberg. When SPDC completes the building of its gas plants in IMO state and other oil companies follow suit, there will be so much adequacy of gas for our NIPP thermal stations to generate power. Under Jonathan, the nation has attained an all time high of 4500 megawatts and still counting. We have also revived the NIPP. it gladdens my heart that gas can now be supplied to GEREGU. I have resolved not to make much noise again till the power reforms fully materialize. |
baqina: It depends on how you look at it.True talk. |
Thumbs up. Keep up the fight against terrorism while GEJ haters continue to blab on the pages of newspapers and Nairaland. |
ibnjarir: . ACN still the strongest of the oppositionBut not strong enough to give PDP a slight headache |
I wouldnt want the alliance to fail. I want it to succeed so that the opposition can be strengthened. It's healthy for our democracy. But unfortunately, the merger of ACN and CPC is of no consequence. The last time I checked, ACN controlled only 6 states while CPC has only one. So the merger of ACN and CPC is a merger of two weak parties and can only result in a mega weak party. The likes of Buhari, Bakare, Tinubu and El Rufai will only succeed in aggregating their collective weaknesses and greed into the party. |
Massive reforms in the power sector. I'm really impressed. |
chucky234: I was not on drug when I said your brain has a rare disorderThat settles it. This boy is nuts. " Fg passed PIB"? One, the president does not pass bills. Two, the PIB has never been passed. Three, there's is nothing like passing bills after cloned copy came in circulation. I'm sure you are in those moments of insane delusions. Perhaps when lucid moments return, you will understand how ridiculous your post is. |
Rich Dad: How are we sure this was Enugu and not Bostwana and that the year was actually 1936 and 1998 turn black and white?Whatever it is. Wherever it may be. The truth is that the rail way system was functional and efficient in Nigeria then. It's unfortunate that things have gone so bad. Successive military govts paralyzed the sector. However, it's good to know that GEJ is reviving the rail system. The second phase of the Lagos-Kano was recently awarded to CCCEC. Abuja-Kaduna line is 35 % ongoing. Hopefully this will be a good start to our journey back to the old good days |
I have confidence in his ability to deliver. |
chucky234: How come you find it so hard to notice that something is wrong with your brain cells, the PIB is useless without that clause as that's the only thing that matters to the ordinary man on the street. Are you this dumb? This assertion can only come from an illiterate. What do you even know about PIB? First, I said the bill is presently at the National Assembly so whatever clauses that are missing or needs to be added can be done by the National Assembly. How is that so difficult for you to understand? Perhaps in your dull brain, you feel that a bill automatically becomes law once the executive presents it to the National Assembly. Or you think PIB Is automatically law without going through the normal process of lawmaking. Secondly, it is the height of ignorance for you to say PIB is not for the common man. This can only come from an illiterate who is not acquainted with the provisions of the PIB. First, the PIB increases the involvement stake by host communities in the exploration of oil by the IOC's. Two, NNPC will be unbundled creating different companies for participation in the oil industry. Three, the PIB addresses the issue of gas flaring and other challenges that has made exploration of oil a nightmare for the people of Noger Delta. All over Nigeria, industry watchers have been applauding the Bill. The bill itself was formulated by senator Udoma and Olisa Agbakoba and co under the Diezani'a appointed committee. The PIB is available online. Try and access it and stop fooling yourself. |
There's no need to disturb ourselves over a bill that is destined to the National Assembly. The good thing is that the FG has had the courage and wisdom to formulate this revolutionary bill. So no matter how imperfect or perfect, the National Assembly now has the onerous responsibility to legislate on it. Our attention should be directed to NASS. There will be public hearings. Both houses will sit on it. Anybody or lawmaker who feels that the bill deleted certain necessary items has an opportunity to re insert it. Anybody or lawmaker who feels also that the bill vested enormous powers on the Minister can water it down during the process of passage. Even members of this forum who feel that certain items should be included or removed should avail themselves of the opportunity of public hearings on the bill by both chambers. It's a win win situation for the Petroluem sector and Nigeria in general. |
oshyno: I watched d AIT interview and believe u me apart frm d mannerism 'u know u know ' ,he surely got his acts right. He explains with statistics n asks Thomases to go verify.Dis man will sure provide d missing link between d populace n d Govt as it partains govt programs n achievemens.Yeah. I watched the interview too but couldn't finish it due to the pressure of work. But from the bit I watched, he comes across as the needed link between govt and the destructive opposition led by El Rufai. You know there is a whole world of difference between constructive criticism and destructive criticism. When someone, who is labouring under malice and vengeance for the political defeat he suffered to another, decides to paint his victorious opponent black on all scores. It is called destructive criticism. On the flip side, constructive criticism is where someone sets out to acknowledge progress where necessary and puncture holes in govt activities when necessary.i.e a constructive critic will admit that power has significantly improved but will proceed further to call the attention of govt to address distribution and transmission concerns so that this new improvement will be felt by all. This latter variant of criticism is key to development. |
Kobojunkie: Through Obasanjo. The NIPP projects were Obasanjo's initiation. Yar adua, along with Jonathan as VP stalled on those projects. The same NIPP plants which were commenced during Obansanjo days are what we are working on today. How far do you think this Pettiness will push you? Nigerians are telling you that after all the abracadabra by successive govt's in Nigeria, power has improved under Jonathan. Just take sometime to go through opinions on this thread and you will see how ridiculous you sound. If you continue in this blind denial of the obvious, you risk loosing whatever is left of your reputation on Nairaland. |
bilms: cpc vice presidential candidate in the 2011 election, pastor tunde bakare has endorsed the bid of the ondo state governor, olusegun mimiko for second term.OGA, where your Source? |
