Mr president, you forgot to add that you promised to ensure equity by making sure that each state of the federation has at least a federal university. In one year, you have fulfilled this promise by establishing nine new federal universities and mobilised them with 2 billion each for take off. You also promised to increase literacy in the north and you have started that with the successful launch of the Almajiri school system. You promised to give education priority attention and you did just that by increasing funding to above 400 billion in line with UNESCO requirement. During your campaigns to Edo, you promised to fix Benin-Ore and you have started that through the award of that road to Reynolds construction co and Borini. You have also fixed IHOVBOR power plant all in one year. You promised to make Onitsha the hub of commercial activities in Nigeria and you have started that with the commissioning of the Onitsha ports and the award of engineering designs for the construction of a new Niger Bridge. At IMO state, you assured them of your resolve to complete Owerri-Onitsha road and you have done just that. At Aba, you promised to Refurbish Alaoji power station and you have done just that adding over 300 MW to the national grid. You have also reopened the NNPC depot boosting economic activities in Aba again. In Enugu, you promised to remodel and reconstruct the Enugu international airport and you re doing just that. You also promised to fix Enugu-Onitsha-Enugu and Enugu-PORTHARCOURT. While you have re-awarded Enugu-Onitsha under the SURE P, we still believe and expect that Enugu-Portharcout will be done before the expiration of your tenure given the assurances of your minister of works. That notwithstanding, you have refurbished the 9th mile express which is a major gateway to the East from North. In Kogi, you promised to fix Auchi-Okene, Abuja-Lokoja highways. You have given Auchi-Okene to Setraco to handle. Abuja-Lokoja which was abandoned has been re awarded under SURE P. you have also refurbished GEREGU power plants . |
ballabriggs: This is the most bizarre and stupid argument I have heard on this issue. Now one of the biggest ways of financing crime and money laundering is through international trade, foreign capital flows and international banking. Should we then stop trading with other nations because it "promotes money laundering"? Should we also stop electronic transactions because it also promotes money laundering and thus ignore the benefits of millions in diaspora who use it to support relatives at home? Bottom line is, every innovation in finance is a source of crime but we cannot ignore the benefits because we want to keep living like cave men as the NBA would want.Very analytical. You re on point. This is the best comment on this thread. The problem with so many of us is that we don't bother to analyse issues on its merit. We rather prefer to jump into the bandwagon and re echo pedestrian views. |
Personally, I can attest to the fact that the visits have yielded much dividends in the area of power sector. Brasilian Electrobus participated in the execution of bulk purchase trader agreements under Barth Nnaji alongside Siemens and General Electric. |
Seamah: Mr Dino, stop hiding under th id 1025. I know it is you. Only those who dont know u in person will believe all d crab and noise u make. I see u everyday and am appalled at the way you have exploited d poor masses to further ur selfish interest. Enriching urself with govt proceeds while coming to television screen to shout. I see u everyday as u parade different exotic cars on d street of Abuja and still make a mockery of d people by riding a BMX bicycle and telling them u are poor and cant afford fuel for ur cars. Only God go judge youHe's so shameful |
Mr. Dino Melaye, you are an extreme opportunist. Your background is well known to so many Nigerians . I met a friend who knows you too well. He gave me an account of how you disguised as a students union activist to better your lot. You owe your meterioc rise to National Assembly to this hypocritical politics. You were the youth cordinator for Marwa's presidential campaign. You rode upon this structure to get to the National Assembly through the platform of PDP which you now denigrate because they denied you a second term ticket through a primaries that was free and fair. In the house, you turned yourself into a pugilist defending ETTEHGATE because it favored your narrow political interest. I would personally recall how you engaged Hon. Jime and other members of the integrity group in a brawl over their quest for probity in the house renovation scandal. I will not forget in a hurry how you were waving white handkerchiefs and shouting ontop of your voice that Etteh should not be probed for apprioprating 620m for renovation of her official residence. When the dust settled, you retained the position of house committee chairman on information. You made so much money from this committee that you began to drive around town with all manner of posh cars with plate numbers ranging from Dino1 to Dino 12. You strike me as a fake comrade and understandably so. |
These guys are just a bunch of sinking politicians in search of any straw to hang on. Jonathan is slow on prospecting for oil in a land that has had more than its fair share of presidents? It's better slow than none at all. Buhari did not all. Babaginda did not all. Abubakar did not at all. It shows how clueless and naive these northern politicians can be. |
El Rufai is not happy and understandably so. This a man who returned from exile and expected a heroic welcome and a political appointment from a man who shared his sympathy as Obj boys. But what he got in return was shocking- a criminal charge for the fraud he perpetrated in office as FCT minister. There's no way he will love a government that could not compromise his trial on the altar of friendship. Today, he is jobless and unlike his contemporary Ribadu, the govt has not approached him to head at least a sub committee. It's frustrating hence the resort to twitter. Initially when the twitter blackmail started, it yielded the desired results in demonising GEJ and added more followers to his account. It was fun . However, the law of diminishing returns has set in. The lies, half truths and blackmail have reached it's highest point and now counter productive. In the face of serious improvements in power supply nationwide, award of several federal road projects, rehabilitation of railways, remodeling and reconstruction of 11 major airports including a new award for construction of 11 new terminals with cargo terminals, establishment of new federal universities, Agricultural reforms, Energy reforms through formulation of New PIB, prosecution of subsidy oil thieves and implementation of the AIG reports on subsidy, power reforms and ongoing privatisation of PHCN; EL Rufai has run out of what to criticise. He is now chasing shadows and mud raking. I do not begrudge him. That is the only straw left for him to cling on before he drowns in the murky waters of Nigerian politics. |
Demdem: I agree with u completely with the above bolded. However, the challenge here is the retardeen has already promised not to go for second term. He vowed not to. Dont u think we may be injuring ourselves as a nation if we force him to go ahead knowing fully well that alternatives abound everywhereYou have made up your mind to shut your eyes to anything good about this administration. This explains why you went the whole hog to cancel the significant achievements in order to blot out truth and serve the interest of your paymasters. Too petty of you. A more matured mind would have tried to Counter the facts rather than cancel it. You can't hide truth. This approach leaves you clueless and low in the estimation of right thinking members of this forum. |
I don't care where the president comes from. What I care about is performance. A performing president deserves a second term irrespective of the power equations and zonning arrangements in the political space. I'm convinced beyond any reasonable doubt that Jonathan has done exceedingly well in the past one year to deserve a second term. The power sector reforms and improvement of power supply is unparalleled and needs time and consistency to consolidate. The railways projects are slowly been revived. Many highways are being rehabilitated with major roads like BENIN-ORE-SAGAMU, Abuja-Lokoja, East -West, Onitsha-Enugu reawarded for proper funding through SURE P. 11 Airports are being reconstructed and new terminals being awarded for construction. New seaports are being commissioned in Onitsha with existing ones sanitized and a number of unwanted law enforcement agencies reduced in the warfs. We have never had these numerous projects by any government in its first year in office |
PapaBrowne: This Government is doing things that were not done in the last 25 years in Nigeria.Even on corruption, the government has hit the ground running. There has been revolutionary probes into our public finances and oil revenue. Increasingly, accountability and transperancy has become a key issue in an oil sector hitherto shrouded in secrecy. More than ever before, govt initiated investigations into subsidy management in this country. They also took the bold step to transfer subsidy funds from first line charges to the national budget for accountability. Any informed Nigerian can now access the exact amounts slated for subsidy yearly. Gradually, we are witnessing the criminal prosecution of untouchable subsidy cabal. The minister of Finance is fighting it out with marketers over subsidy claims. Probity is gradually setting in. For the first time, a probe report is conclusive and being enforced with a long list of indictees meant to refund over 400 billion Naira to national coffers. The budget bazaar is over as the minister of finance insists on thorough verification before release of funds. Pension scammers are being exposed and currently standing trial. EFCC is set to charge more suspects when the courts resume next week. |
Nora okon: “But, in the interim, the Minister of State Power is holding on to that. But whether the Minister of Power comes or not, we want to reconstitute the two teams because Nigerians will not be happy if we relapse and I believe that as we progress from now till December if Nigerians can go home in December and do their parties without generators and can drive to their States without gutters (potholes) on our roads stopping them, I think the rating of government will improve. So we must work hard to get to this level.”These words touched me. And may the almighty God help you to achieve this. |
Aderostock: The only region that is having all these factories is the South-west. Visit Otta, Agbara, mowe/ibafo, epe-outskirts, sango all in Ogun state, also visit bodija, ogbomoso, main ibadan all in Oyo state, Akure, oshogbo, Akure township, ilorin and ring roadIt has a proximity to our nation's commercial capital. So that is why it's an industrialist destination. But now that a port has been commissioned in Onitsha we may see an influx of these factories in the eastern region. |
taharqa: I can now confirm dat dis same figure was Also reportd in an article in today's Guardian Newspaper wit even furda info on d improvements in d manufacturing sector.... In today's Punch is anoda story on d slight improvement in Nigeria's position in d World's Competitive Index from 127 in 2010 to 115 last yr- d factors that lead to the improvements and the Many other factors dat is keeping a country like Nigeria dat d report said had 'great potentials' in d its current score(cos regardless of d slighting improvement on d index, it is still shameful dat Nigeria is at d 115 position considering her considerable promise) were discussed. In a slightly similar vein, today's Leadership Newspaper reported dat d Foreign Reserves rose to about $39.6billion 4rm $38.4billion just last week and $32billion by early dis year, implying dat it wud it is well on its way to attaining d $50billion mark set by d Minister of Finance by year's endMuch to the shock and disappointment of haters, NIGERIA is gradually moving forward under the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan |
I know that those who thrive on rumors will not be happy with this news. They will just wish and pray and hope against hope that she is indeed sick. So that they will keep on doubting and doubting and doubting. For them, she must be sick so that their evil rumors will have a semblance of truth. Gradually, hatred and envy is making us loose our God given consciences in this country. When this news broke out yesterday through that SHOPRITE OF LIES(SAHARAREPORTERS), I called for caution in digesting it hook, line and sinker. But WINCHES flew in from their covens to devour me raw on that thread. My crime is that we should not be hasty in affirming the misfortune of a fellow human. MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON US ALL |
Governance is not an oral exercise. It is easy to criticise from the comfort of your bedroom. But when it comes to performance, it's a different ball game. When as president, you are confronted with several memos and proposals begging for attention and funding you will then know why roads are reawarded due to funding. At the moment, govt is battling to meet up with its subsidy payments, security funding, diplomatic expenses for its missions abroad etc. In the midst of these, they have an increased minimum wage bills to offset. So many new projects including the refurbishment of the international airports. Rehabilitation of railways, refurbishment of power plants, port reforms and commissioning, While you are contending with these projects, your attention is drawn to the stoppage of work on roads awarded before your tenure. Meanwhile, you had clearly set out to do some other roads earmarked in the budget by your minister of works. For example, this govt gave priority attention to the much neglected Benin-Ore-Sagamu road and awarded it to Reynolds construction and co. They also awarded the Apapa-Oshodi to Julius Berger with a mandate for expansions and drainages. But work on East-West, Abuja-Lokoja awarded by Obj are stalled due to paucity of funds. The FG had to review the basis and terms of the award and has resolved to re award same under the SURE P. is that not responsive leadership? Why is it so difficult for some people to understand this? There were challenges facing the completion of those roads awarded under OBJ. The East West road was abandoned at the peak of the Militancy in Niger Delta. The companies also complained about the terrain and demanded for an upward review. |
Loveangel: ARE U OKAY?I should rather ask you. Because if this is what you have to offer as response to my post below, then you are insane "Just listen to yourself. CNN is US government. BBC is pro Lib Dems NTA is pro Jonathan. Fine agreed. Did I ever mention the above media houses In my post? NO! I said clearly ( and the records are still there on this thread) that these paid propagandists hardly quote reasonable media outfits like THISDAY, VANGURAD, PUNCH, GUARDIAN, and even Tinubu's NATIONNEWSPAPERS in support of their fictions. Why must they resort to unreliable faceless online media for their fake rumours? I await patiently for you to still come to tell me that the aforementioned newspaper companies work for Jonathan, then I will situate you in proper context." |
joey4jo: Why do you guys always discredit this agencies? Fine, they made mistakes before and carried some false news, but what of the 999 other times that their stories checkout? Comon guys!!Just listen to yourself. I await patiently for you to still come to tell me that the aforementioned newspaper companies work for Jonathan, then I will situate you in proper context. |
EPOMA: Print media will be closed at any time they report the truthWhich print media have you seen under lock and key for saying the truth? Just mention one since the return of democracy in 1999. both AIT and CHANNELS are not gagged. They air anything they want without undue molestation. Same for THISDAYNEWSPAPERS. So why now? If its true, these media houses will report it without minding whoose ox is gored. |
From Saharareporters to Premium times. I wonder why these blackmailers always love online news papers rather than the established print media in Nigeria. Why don't these paid hirelings on Nairaland quote the likes of THISDAY, VANGUARD, PUNCH, GUARDIAN, and even their paymasters NATIONNEWSPAPERS? The reason is simple. These online media platforms offer pure and unadulterated falsehood for their propaganda machinery. They have no means for verification of the authencity of its reports. They just quote sources that are anonymous and the deal is done. It's simple. Just cook up c.ock and bull stories and engage an IT expert to upload it online. That is the height of faceless journalism. A colleague of mine told me in the office that he will start believing anything from SAHARAREPORTERS whenever he sees their representative in any press briefing or conference. And I agree with him. |
taharqa: Can you imagine what a national "newspaper" wrote? This is the level that the Nigerian Fourth Esate of the Realm, nay most Nigerians actually, have Sunk. Unabashed "Rumour Mongering" now pass as "News" as long as the word "my sources", who of course are always "anonymous", is mentioned; and a lot of people are willing to spend their time debating the "news"( watch and see this thread get to Page 10). We have lost every Sense of Shame and the Sense of what is really important cos we are bombarded with opinions of some Power Mongers who would use any means within their grasp( including PROPAGANDA) to achieve their selfish goals( it is almost seen as WARFARE, and all is fair in war). We spend time across d nation now debating complete friviolities and half-truths planted by some selfish interest(on all sides- PDP, ACN, CPC, Hausa/Fulani, Ijaws, Igbos, Yorubas, Xtians, Muslims, 'ex'Militates, BH operatives and dier sympathizers, Labour, North, South etc) instead of FOCUSING on REAL issues. Every single interest is in a mad rush to capture d 'Public Space' to furda its own narrow interests, and evrione seem to hv forgotten d interest dat shld count most- NIGERIA.My brother, I am as shocked as you are. I wonder why people are this gullible in this part of the world. Anything goes, just say it and it will sail. Even on Nairaland, it baffles me how supposed literate men take news items from online newspapers such as SAHARAREPORTERS(SHOPRITE OF LIES) very seriously inspite of their rich history of misinformation and falsehood. |
Eko Ile: I'm not ineterested in your redundant nonsense. Do what I asked you to do. Show us the law the ACN broke and the part of the constitution that says ACN is not a private party and can not select their candidiates? Do that or STFU.@EKO ILE, Its unfortunate that those who gave you this brief failed to give you some little sense. That little sense would have enabled you to stop fooling yourself with this your imaginary private and public political party jargon. It also smacks of imbecility to ask me to show you the place of primaries in the 1999 constitution. What governs internal rules of a party is the party constitution, not 1999 constitution. Secondly, it's the height of stupidity to admit that your party conducted a kangaroo primaries and still turn around to argue that primaries is unknown to your party constitution |
Pataki: I can see our resident DUNCE is here. Unfortunately he has got more than he can chew on this thread.@PATAKI, I thought you went on vacation from Nairaland to acquire some little sense but unfortunately you came back dumber. If you had reserved the little sense you had before your trip, you would have realized that OLD GBAWE absconded from this thread after I confronted him with hard facts of his misplaced analogy with UK politics. All the names you mentioned were prime ministers in UK. I don't know if it's rocket science for you to understand that Parliamentary politics in UK differs with our own presidential democracy modeled after the USA. This is basic elementary government. Even a smart JSS2 student knows this. I have challenged you and your M.oron-In-Chief, Old Gbawe to give an example of non primaries in US where we borrowed this presidential primaries from. You are entirely clueless. Of course, you know that your paymaster Tinubu is guest to the Democratic primaries in US this year. . |
Eko Ile: You mean there is a law on the books telling pirvate political parties to hold primary elections?OGA, there is nothing like private and public political parties as you ignorantly advertised earlier. I chose not to join issues with you then so as not to embarrass you. But now that you have descended into the arena, I have to put you in order. It is elementary knowledge that primaries is enshrined into the constitution of every political party in our presidential democracy. I wanted to extract that fact from Old Gbawe earlier and he was just dodging. I knew ACN held a kangaroo primaries to give legitimacy to Tinubu's choice. I was expecting Old GBAWE to cite that primaries but he was busy bringing extraneous matters |
Gbawe: Like I said to your moronic compatriot above, all you and your ilk know how to do is talk hatefully and senselessly as if your brain is in your azz. You are always taking Panadol for the non-existent pain of others. You don't even have the intelligence to note the idiocy of your talk. Where have I shown an intolerance for voting or Primaries? Are you that dense you do not realize that I was simply pointing out that it is not only voting and Primaries that indicate "Internal Party democracy"?Your Mumu has gone Full circle. It is disturbing to see the level of of s.tupidity and naivety you exhibit on Nairaland just to make ends meet. I clearly picked holes in your paymasters imposition of candidates on your party. Instead of furnishing us with substantial evidence of his innocence, you went off the tangent defending the indefensible and frolicking with Goggle assisted thesis on variant models of party selection. In the process, you placed in the public domain your total ignorance of the distinction between parliamentary democracy and presidential democracy. It is elementary knowledge that all the examples you supplied above are in UK which practices parliamentary system. I wonder how you deliberately forgot or ignored citing US examples in support of your paymasters preference of imposition to party primaries. Of course you know that primaries is an essential ingredient of party politics in the United states where we borrowed our presidential democracy from. Secondly, your thesis would have made more sense if your party leaders had not adopted primaries and enshrined same in your constitution. Political parties are under obligation to abide by the provisions of its constitutions on mode of selection of candidates. It's not optional on your paymaster overlord to do away with it and appoint candidates for the party. It is a bare face assault on internal party democracy. Thirdly, you shamelessly borrowed the ONDO primaries to lend credence to your paymasters imposition of Akeredolu on ONDO ACN. Even if we concede it's true, it is wrong for a party to reach a consensus without a semblance of primaries. All consensus must be clothed in the garb of primaries for it to gain legitimacy. That is why the ruling party-PDP goes ahead to hold elective conventions even where consensus has been reached on the choice of party's candidate. The law frowns at a situation whereby your paymaster will wake up in the morning and choose a candidate for the party. That is why the supreme court nullified Omehia's elections as Governor of Rivers State I can't believe I had to preach this far in order to convince a self acclaimed literate on the need to conduct party primaries in a presidential democracy where there is conflicting interest on the choice of a party's candidate |
A poorly sponsored drama. I expected better from Dino. At least, he could have gingered all the folks he deceives on twitter to protest for what they believe in. This is too childish. I'm sure most of those boys on Chelsea jerseys do not even have an idea of what they came to protest against. For them, what is in their minds is the 200 or 400 Naira that will be shared at the end of the drama. |
Obiagu1: I really do not care much about what the law says on the issue because it's not a very good law.I agree with you. This is one of those instances where I feel the so called law should have been dishonuored in the overall interest of the power sector. Barth Nnaji appears very irreplaceable. But on a second thought, I feel the president acted right in order to restore investors confidence in the privatisation process. Secondly, its is better for Barth Nnaji to even continue the running of the power sector in a post privatisation era through Geometric |
Gbawe: Why don't you just stick to laundering GEJ's image with lies instead of overreaching yourself with ignorant talk? Who do you expect to tell you who Akeredolu is? If those who matter , i.e Ondo State citizens, know Akeredolu, what explanation does anyone owe you?You are a real threat to our democracy. With the emboldened statement I don't even need to go further to explain your disdain for due process and democracy. A full grown man in the 21st century detest the idea of voting and primaries in a democratic environment where there are competing interests. PATHETIC! It speaks volumes of how much you have sold your conscience to your paymaster- Tinubu that you now come publicly to advertise your hatred for primaries in a democracy. Abeg, if primaries is not the proper modus for selecting a candidate in a presidential democracy then what else, imposition of candidates abi? I'm sorry for you. |
It beats me hollow how some people still admire Tinubu in the face of overwhelming evidence of looting, thuggery and despotic management of ACN affairs. What is Mimiko's offence that will warrant this level of bashing from the Lagos Godfather? Aside from Fashola and Oshiomhole, which of Tinubu's ACN stooges has out performed Mimiko? Is performance no longer the yardstick for re election? Or is loyalty to the Lagos Godfather the new criteria for re election? On what basis is Tinubu calling Mimiko a traitor? Did Mimiko backstab the people of Ondo who voted him to power? Is Tinubu the tribunal Judge that ruled in favour of Mimiko and Mimiko has turned aback to betray him? Tinubu spoke like one who helped Mimiko to power and is disappointed over the latter's disloyalty. Is there something they are not telling us especially with the Salami MTN call log saga? Now let us face this election. Who is Akeredolu? How did he emerge as ACN candidate? Was the process fair and competitive? Isn't his candidacy another affront on internal party democracy? Can any objective mind truly deny that the Akeredolu ticket is not akin to the colonial masters deployment of a governor general to one of the colonies? |
Source please. But if true, it doesn't come as a surprise to those of us who know that Tinubu is a criminal. |
I can't believe that we are splitting our hairs over the First lady's trip abroad. For whatever it's worth, it's none of our business. She is not an elected officer or an appointee of the Federal government. Our constitution does not recognize a First lady and she has no constitutional role to execute that will warrant this level of anxiety over her absence. Please let's redirect our discussions to more topical issues affecting the nation and leave the first lady alone. If she likes she can head to Fiji islands, it's none of our business. I have even seen some useless comments advising her on where to go. One said its better for her to rest at Otuoke and not Germany. Then i begin to wonder when Nlanders have turned into the first lady's advicers on tourism. What is our business in her destination? |
The minister of Finance is seriously working to entrench accountability and transperancy in the system. Her labours will never bein vain |
citizenisb: “Nigerians must remember the quantity of what we earn is dependent on what we sell. Eighty per cent of the taxes we collect come from one revenue source and that’s oil. Nigerians have forgotten that we depend on oil and there are sometimes delays and this leads to shortfalls. Our resources are never expansive. It’s the same thing we get.”On point |
