Yes, we should care about the problems plaguing the youths, but you don't do that by issuing draconian decrees and taking away the power of making the right decisions by choice, an informed choice if I may say. Teenagers are especially rebellious when you try to force things down their throat. A better approach is to educate them about the positives and negatives of every situation.

If we start to ban, then we will ban the Internet itself so that we can stop our youths from viewing pornography and getting involved in "yahoo-yahoo", and wasting their life away on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We would also need to ban Super Sport so that our youths will stop wasting money on sports betting like Nairabet, BetNaija and so on. Are you getting my drift? I'm sure that would affect you too.

The number one way to raise responsible youths is proper parenting. We as parents are mostly guilty of not doing enough, me inclusive. We get so caught up in the hustle to make ends meet and provide for these children that we are not giving them the necessary guidance they need. The family is the smallest individual unit in every society. When we correct the anomalies in the family, we will have better, responsible children and youths.

We have also not paid attention to our schools. Are our kids getting the right kind of education that will help them make better choices? We have to correct the problem from the foundation.

I agree. There is just something about this BBN that is amiss. Some of the youths are even calling for censure. When you tell people, there is a serpent in that pit, they are likely going to take precaution. That applies to the internet! In the case of BBN the message is - there is a dove in that cage. The 'kids' go there only to find that the so called dove is a serpent! That is the issue! NBC has stopped several things that dont even come close to BBN in terms of vile and vanity! That is why I dont get it. But I may be wrong. There are experts in these things.

It is still a parent's duty to monitor or limit what their kids do in the social media space. There is a lot of porn on social media and the internet already, raw porn much worse than BBN. If your child shouldn't be seeing such then don't give them an internet-enabled smartphone or computer. Or at least find out if you can block age-inappropriate content on these platforms on their gadgets. I'm a parent too and that is my duty, not DsTV's or the government.

I agree with you. But should we not care a bit about the problems plaguing youth in our society? Should we think about our children alone?

I dont even know what channel it is on not to talk of watching it! Not for a second. I have better things to do with my life. But I get so surprised that many Nigerians have become so comfortable with societal degradation. Sad.

We keep comparing ourselves with America. Like a doctor once said - Nigerian children consume junk food like Americams, forgetting that America has healthcare and advancement in medicine to take care of the consequences, but here in Nigeria, common paracetamol they may not even have in the 'presidential' clinic! The bitter truth even though I'm not a fan of the show. There are so many other channels to choose from on DsTV and GoTV. Exercise your power of choice. No one is being forced to watch BBN.

The 'show' is not only on DsTV. The people behind it know that the sinister message will ultimately land in the social media space. The kids are already talking about it in schools this morning, even though their parents stopped them from watching it on DSTV. The kids are seeing the porn not on dstv but on so many channels in the social media space including NL.

Rather shameful that we have these advisers who dont think through or weigh the implications of their actions or inactions!

Whatever goes on in that house of porn will land in the social media space. FACT.

There is enough junk in that space that parents are fighting endlessly to manage. FACT.

BBN is indirectly created within the Nigerian space and under regulation by a FG body. FACT.

Why would an FG body not censor what is becoming celebrated PORN even when the citizens (including parents) are crying out?

This is like some section of a particular country saying 'we cant control guns', yet innocent children are murdered every time!
