cap28:
Buhari actually rejected SAP and the IMF loans and instead tried to focus on paying off our debt  without restructuring the economy, his failure to fall into line with america's neo liberal economic policies placed him on a collision course with the west which eventually led to him being overthrown by Babangida - a US backed puppet.
I agree with you on this point CAP28, but the problem is
even if Buhari came back he is also a "Lame Duck", The
problem with the so-called "Good Guys" in Nigeria politics
like Buhari is that they have not come up with a viable plan
that will aleast solve the pressing economic issues
in Nigeria ie Power, Energy, Health, Education & Infrastruce area's

Shoo!!! I mean for Real Cap28, these guys do not even write
the Major Legislation that could effect this change, the advisors
at Abuja to this Politicians/Parties are mostly IMF, World Bank and a
multitude of International NGO's boys and girls ie, CFR, NED, Cato, Brookings working
through Nigerian Incorporated NGO'S !!! what a sham!

And dude this is not hear-say when it comes to these advisors as
my friend in Abuja who moves in those "Circles" gave me a tour of these
offices and introduced me to some of theses officials  when i was in Nigeria last year,

Zamfara commissioner stripped unclothed during Assembly by-election
Written by Muhammad Sabiu, Gusau
Sunday, January 9, 2011

Thugs stripped a female commissioner in Zamfara State, (name withheld) unclothed during the just-concluded House of Assembly by-election in Anka, which took place at the weekend.

An eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune that the commissioner, who is a card-carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was seen by some thugs distributing wrappers and detergents to some women on the day of the election.

According to the source, "the situation didn't go down well with these youths whose loyalty is with the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP)."

When the thugs accosted her and asked her why she was campaigning for PDP while campaign had closed, she was said to be adamant.

Source confided in the Nigerian Tribune that this enraged the youth who pounced on her, tore her cloths and stripped her unclothed.
The pandemonium that followed this attracted by-passers who rushed to the scene of the incident and rescued the embattled commissioner from the hoodlums.

When contacted, the commissioner confirmed the incident but was quick to add that any politician worth his salt would not be bothered by such experience.
She maintained that she did not regret her action and would do the same if the opportunity came again.

It will be recalled that the by-election for the House of Assembly took place at Anka following the demise of a member of the House of Assembly, Saidu Bagega, in October, 2010.

Obasanjo leaves Cote d’Ivoire, Gbagbo defiant

Tuesday, 11 January 2011 00:00 Editor News - National

FORMER president Olusegun Obasanjo has left Cote d’Ivoire after he tried to persuade sitting president, Laurent Gbagbo, to step down peacefully.

The workers of the hotel where Obasanjo was staying and a member of his security detail, according to the Associated Press (AP) confirmed that the former president left early yesterday for Nigeria.

Gbagbo has refused to step down even though results issued by the electoral commission and certified by the United Nations (UN) showed he lost to opposition leader, Alassane Ouattara, by a near nine-point margin.

Obasanjo shuttled between the two men, seeing each once on Saturday night following his arrival, and twice on Sunday. The purpose of the visit was to exhaust the diplomatic options before a military intervention is considered.

Obasanjo made a surprise visit on Saturday night on a mission sanctioned by Nigeria, part of a flurry of initiatives aimed at persuading Gbagbo to give up power peacefully.

“My own exploration remains positive and to that extent ,  I am optimistic,” Obasanjo told journalists at a hotel in Abidjan late Sunday night.

He spent Sunday in talks with Gbagbo and Ouattara, who remains holed up in the lagoon-side Golf Hotel under guard of UN peacekeepers and blockaded by pro-Gbagbo military.

ECOWAS, headed by Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, has threatened to remove Gbagbo by force if he refuses to go quietly. But any such military effort would be logistically daunting, and Gbagbo has dismissed such threats as interference in Cote d’Ivoire’s sovereign affairs.

Asked whether he still thought military intervention was the solution, Obasanjo replied: “When you have a problem you must consider all possible solutions.”

“We know that an election has taken place. The whole world knows the result of the election. My exploration is to see how and where we go from here,” he said.

In a sign that cracks were appearing in ECOWAS’s tough stance, Ghana’s President John Atta Mills announced on Friday that he would not take sides in the conflict and he did not believe a military action would solve anything.

“We believe in quiet diplomacy, so I have expressed reservations about the success of the intended military option. There are more than one million Ghanaians in Cote d’Ivoire. I don’t want to be saddled with problems we can’t solve,” Mills said.

Four other African leaders were in Cote d’Ivoire at the start of last week to attempt to mediate, but came back empty-handed.

The UN says at least 210 people have been killed in violence since the election, including 14 in inter-ethnic violence in the western town of Duekoue in recent days.

peacefully, War is not an option and is not called for.

The Nigerian Govt should step very carefully in regards to this matter.

In the event that your above statment is targeted at me I suggest you present your own reasonable arguement on the reasons  IMF loans have not suceeded in various African countries rather than kissing someone elses a.z.z
You say i am kissing CAP28 azz and targeting my comments at you.

Dude, Dont get it twisted,

The only countries to have benefited from IMF/World Bank Loans
were Britain, France, Germany & Japan after the Second World War
when the Marshall Plan was implemented to revive these economies.

And the reason why they had to be revived was due to the destruction
of their Infrastruture during the war. USA was the only "Major Economic Power country" to come out of the War with its infrastructure "intact"

and they gave Loans to the Major Warring countries at "Low Interest Rates" to Build up
their economies and assimulate them into the USA Political, Financial, Economics
and Defense Security "Umbrella" Known as "the Group of 7"(now G20), "O.E.C.D" & "NATO"

The Core Founding members of these Groups are: USA, Britain, France, Germany, Japan.

The other countries in these groups are linked to the Core founding members by vital mutual "Geo-Political"/Geo-Strategic Interests" ie "The scandinavians countries (Norway, Finland etc), the Benulux Countries(Beguim, Holland, Luxemburg etc) ,the South Continental Europe Countries (Spain, Italy,Portugal etc) Far East Countries(Japan,South korea etc)

The IMF/World Bank was founded in New Hampshire (USA) by USA Financial Elite with support from the British, French etc for the purposeof establishing a "New Financial World Architecture" with the USA as the leader.

The World Bank was Initially called "The International Bank for Reconstruction
and Developmet" which was tasked with the assignment of Building up
Western Europe after 1945.

The Americans knew that they had to rebuild Britain, France, Germany and Japan
becuase not to do so would breed resentment to the USA and due to the Former dynamism of these states they would pull themselves up econpmically collectively or othewise, so it was safer for the USA to help rebuild these countries and bring them to
their side in order to prevent further economic contention, chaos and war.

Your should also realise that these countries are major shareholders
in the IMF/WORLD BANK & BIS,

NO OTHER COUNTRIES ON ANY OTHER CONTINENT apart FROM EUROPE AND JAPAN IN ASIA HAVE DEVELOPED UNDER IMF/WORLD BANK POLICIES!, NOT ONE!!!

Dude i am not attacking you. Just stating the facts and truth of the matter,

Security is Not free and the Nigerian Banks know that,

Why would the IG think of removing police security from banks if
the banks refuse to issue better "security Contracts" to the Nigerian
Police force.

Most Banks use "Private Companies" for security ie "Securicor" in the UK
but even they are "Backed up" in term of monitoring to the CCTV system
and have connectiones to the UK Police Force.

And all of the Private Security firms in the UK are Part Owned and Staffed
by Ex Military and Police Officers.

Police force in the UK charge "Football clubs" for security services
at football matches and other events.

Police Presense at Public/Private Events in the UK means some organisation
is paying "Part of the Bill" besides the Government.

The Nigerian Banks should wake up from their "Dreamland" of paying the
Nigerian Police "Peanuts" for securing Billions of Naira

Or is something stirring here. are the Military Elite thinking of  starting Private
security firm to now watch over the money, hmmm

Heineken acquires Sona, Champion, three other Nigerian breweries

Gbenga Agbana

In a move seen by analysts as an attempt to further entrench its influence in the Nigerian beer market, the Amsterdam, Netherlands-based Heineken NV, the world's third-largest brewer by volume, has said that it has bought controlling interests in five Nigerian brewery companies.

The acquisition, according to the company, is to help alleviate a shortage of production capacity in Africa's second-biggest beer market.

Heineken NV already owns 64 per cent stake in Nigerian Breweries Plc and has controlling stake in Consolidated Breweries.

The company, according to a statement it issued on Wednesday, acquired two holding companies of the Sona Group, which had controlling interest in Sona Breweries, International Beer and Beverages Industrial Limited, Benue Breweries, Life Breweries and Champion Breweries.

Most of the newly acquired brewing companies had gone through a difficult time with inadequate working capital, low productivity, poor market share and low employee morale.

My mum has been very happy of my choice of wife until I  informed her that the wedding will not be holding in Aba and it has been war ever since!!!. Dad is late and she is my primary contact in naija for everything and has refused to move her foot except I have the wedding in Aba.
Dude this is where the problem is rooted

1 - Your Mum is the Primary Contact or main person you trust in
Naija for things.

2 - Your Mum had to consent to your choice of wife.

3 - Your mum is taken advantage of the fact that she is
the "hegemon" in your life and is trying to dictate
where your marry, this can lead to further issues, trust me Dude
i been there and if you dont be polite and firm with the
"2nd Most Important woman in your life (Your Mum)", you will have on-going issues and trust me you do not want a war of attrition between your NO 1 Lady (Your Wife) and your NO.2 Lady (Your Mum).

Your Mum was No.1 before you met your "Sweet-heart"(Your Wife) and now Mum must step down and be No.2 (Thats not always easy but Dude it has to happen) for Your New No.1 is gonna be there long after your previous No.1 has departed this life on Earth(a.k.a,Your Mum has gone to Heaven).

4 - Your New No.1 (Your Bride, Your Wife, The 1st Love of your Life, Your Rock, Your Help-meet) is already feeling not wanted, DUDE YOU CANNOT ALLOW THIS TO BE!
As when a woman does not feel safe or wanted it affects her emotionally,
SO U MUST PROVE TO YOUR "SPECIAL ONE" YOUR WIFE!! That you have respect and love for your Mum but she is now No.2 and Your wife is No.1,

DUDE THIS IS A TEST TO SEE IF YOUR FOUNDATION FOR YOUR COVENANT RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR WIFE IS STRONG!!! PASS IT DUDE WITH AN A+++,  FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!!!

Whose right is it to choose the wedding location?
Folks I’m in a dilemma here. I and my fiancé are planning to get married sometime this year and we have both agreed to have our wedding at Onitsha where my fiancé family comes from originally. I’m from Aba and my family lives in Aba as well. We are both based in US are planning to have have the traditional and white wedding at the same location so as to reduce the inconveniences of travelling from one point to another, risk and cost.

My mum has been very happy of my choice of wife until I  informed her that the wedding will not be holding in Aba and it has been war ever since!!!. Dad is late and she is my primary contact in naija for everything and has refused to move her foot except I have the wedding in Aba.

My question is who has the final call for a wedding location?  And how best can I handle the situation cus I’ve tried severally to convince my mum to come round but she has bluntly refused to bulge and threatened not to even attend the wedding if her wishes are not satisfied.

My fiancé as well is not happy about the situation as she thinks she is not welcome in my family. I’m at the risk of lossing at both ends if I don’t handle the situation well.

Any good advise is welcome! Thanks peeps
Dude, You are the MAN, Its your wedding and your life
All due respect to your Mum, but if she gets her way on this issue

Goodluck Jonathan had the Nigerian presidency thrust upon him in May 2010, when his predecessor, Umaru Yar’Adua, succumbed to a long illness. In January’s elections, assuming he gets the backing of his party, he will make the position permanent. Mr Jonathan belongs to the Ijaw, one of the country’s 250 ethnic groups and, significantly, rooted in the Niger delta, where militants have long fought for a bigger share of the oil income that makes up four-fifths of the government’s revenue. Bringing that costly and frequently bloody dispute to an end will be a long job, but Mr Jonathan’s local connections will buy him time and strengthen his negotiating hand, so he’s probably the best hope. Add to this his other stated priorities—cleaning up the electoral process, fighting endemic corruption and fixing the electricity grid—and his could be a transformative administration.

cap28:
Isnt it funny how the west picks and chooses when and where to intervene when the "wrong person" wins an election?

What i would like to know is why didnt the west intervene in nigeria in 1993 when IBB annulled the June 12 presidential elections?  How come they didnt suspend nigeria from the commonwealth, freeze our credit accounts, close down our export markets and impose draconian economic sanctions on us the way they have so quickly done in the case of Ivory coast.  Why didnt they send troops in to destroy the nigerian airforce in order to cripple any chance of a military retaliation ?

Could it be because Abiola was not the man they wanted in office in the same way that Gbagbo is no longer the man they feel should remain in office in Ivory coast?

All this talk about the west not wanting Gbagbo to extend his tenure is ridiculous, if i remember correctly Mobutu spent 35 years in office with military and financial backing of the US, Omar Bongo of Gabon spent a staggering 42 years in office courtesy of french backing, going down in history as the longest serving african head of state.  It appears that the west don't have a problem with sit tight dictators as long as they are PERSONALLY APPROVED BY THE WEST.

This Outtara sounds just like he has been personally approved by the French, the fact that he is a westernised (brainwashed) ivorien married to a french (white) woman indicates where his loyalties lie.  The other glaring red flag is his former job at the IMF - an even clearer indication as to what his agenda is.

His position reminds me of that of Obasanjo's former finance minister - Okonjo Iweala, here is a woman who was instrumental in negotiating a deal between Nigeria and its foreign creditors in which we are said to have paid $12 billion in partial settlement of our alleged debts which were allegedly $18 billion , the americans are very good at doing this, they get an insider ie someone from the targeted country whose loyalties lie with the imperialist country and they use this insider to negotiate deals which favour the imperialist nation, the insider then agrees to negotiate unfavourable deals which short change their own countries in exchange the insider either receives a huge monetary reward or is elevated to an even higher position of power,  I hear Okonjo Iweala was appointed Managing Director of world bank shortly after her resignation under OBJ's administration - not bad for selling your country down the river.

Outtara is being used in a similiar way, as an imperialist puppet his job is to implement even more draconian SAP policies which will leave the Ivorian economy firmly in the hands of predatory multinational parasites.  This is the real reason why the west want Outtara in and Gbagbo out - again the same old cynical, greedy vultures sucking the lifeblood out of another african state.

Nigeria will dutifully do the bidding of their own colonial masters - the british, by sending troops to fight on behalf of france, note how the financial times of london have said - " let the africans deal with their own problems", despite the fact that the french have orchestrated this entire crisis.  The truth of the matter is that the French do not see Ggabgbo as their puppet of choice and would prefer Outtara who is their agent and who will allow them unlimited access to Ivory Coast's vast natural resources.

if needed Nigeria will send troops to go and die so that France, the EU and the US can retain their parasitic grip on Ivory Coast's economy, the nigerian govt will do this for two reasons - so that they can continue to enjoy military aid from the west and to prevent nigeria from being the next target of the kind of western military and economic attacks that Ivory Coast is currently beign subjected to.
Outtara is a former Economist at the International Monetary Fund

buzugee:
the blind leading the blind  cheesy  nobody is playing the system. what system ? there is no system. its free for all. you have an idea and you implement it as no regulatory body is in place.
Even a Jungle has rules of Engagement, the problem is that most people
in Nigeria fail to realise this, and yes even in Chaotic Nigeria, there are rules
at the top.

Alot of you forget that the country Nigeria is ruled by the military indirectly and these ex-generals who control the economy have studied "Military Intelligence", "The Art of War", "philosophies of control". The indians in Nigeria are playing the same
role in Naija that they are allowed to play in the Middle east and Western Europe,

Order out of Chaos,

What exactly is chaos? The name "chaos theory" comes from the fact that the systems that the theory describes are apparently disordered, but chaos theory is really about finding the underlying order in apparently random events, situations etc.
PoliticsRe: Efcc Arrests Arik Air’s Chief Pilot by DeeJay20: 1:57pm On Jan 06, 2011
Why are these people just plain air-headshuh

Why did they not just arrest the Chief Financial Officer
or Director of Finance or Someone who hold the money bag,

What has the Chief Pilot got to do with Tax issues,

These guys are really stupid, they need to stop this non-sense
and are not tax-issues up the the courts and when a verdict is giving
does not the courts send the police to execute the order?

What a load of Rubbish!!!

cap28:
but you would say that buzugee, what facts are you telling us - that indians and arabs are more proficient at running businesses than nigerians, but that is simply untrue, these parasites are in nigeria simply because the regulatory mechanisms which exist in other countries are virtually non existent in nigeria, these corrupt parasites are attracted to places where they can exploit the indigenous labour force and make an easy buck whilst the compromised "authorities" turn a blind eye.
ROFLMAO!!! This CAP28 guy is the "Truth"..Dude you
hit that one on the head Big Time, Those indians
are just playing the system and the Nigerian Elite allows it because they are getting their own cut, lol!!!

PoliticsRe: President Jonathan To Appoint Anti-terrorism Chief by DeeJay20: 12:12pm On Jan 05, 2011
You guys should chill, as someone rightly
said this is a waste of funds and time,
And police do not fight these kinds of threat to security
Thats why we have the S.S.S, Nigerian Military Intelligence ie Army
Navy & Airforce Intelligence

And since last year when this Stupid Bombing started at Independance Day its now become a habit at Strategic days.

It all Internal.

So the the S.S.S should handle this.

Nigeria wants to have a CTU [Counter Terrorism Unit] ROFLMAO!!!

WHERE IS THE NAIJA JACK BAUER LOL!!!
