PoliticsRe: Handing Over Our Hard-fought Mandate To Ganduje Is Betrayal – Kwankwaso by DeepSight(m): 12:24pm On Jan 15
AMINDA:
Tinubu will destroy the APC with this inordinate desire to have everyone in his party. There are too many clash of egos and the party will implode close to and after the primaries. Ganduje and Kwankwaso cannot co-exist in one party as at today. Tunubu is just potentially making an enemy out of Kwankwaso for little to no gain but with a lot to lose.
+
Do you think the APC will have presidential primaries.

The US will not like to dare North Korea simply because they are sane, mature, not hot-headed and not because North Korea has a chance. Geographically and technologically speaking, the US has the upper hand. They don’t have to leave the shores of the US before sending those boys into Korea but do you think North Korea has that capability as of today? grin
If it ever happens, South Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Japan and China would be the biggest victims and not the faraway USA. This is not me ass-licking the US but this is the one singular reason why the weapons must not be allowed to slip into the hands of immature countries because they won’t show the kind of restraints that have been shown by bigger countries like the US and Russia and even Israel even in the face of provocations from smaller countries that don’t have them (they can use them and nobody would dare to question them but they have never tried it since the first one was used in 1945)
I see the restraints from countries like as France, India, Pakistan, China, Israel and Korea as being fake because they aren’t using them not because they didn’t want to but because they know the rest of the world would question them and would most probably be disarmed.
+
Nukes are mostly a deterrent as of today. Not likely anyone will ever use them no matter how mad the person or country is. Only suicidal non state actors would. Thats the real danger.

Any country using them is also likely to face equal retaliation if its used against a nuclear armed state.

Besides all that the climatic consequences for everyone are way too nightmarish.

PS: I think NK has reached the capacity to reach US Mainland with a ballistic missile. The question would be the speed and technology of the carrier otherwise it would be shot down midway. Being partners with Russia who can help them with hypersonic tech, it should not be presumed that they could not pull it off.

Nonetheless I dont think anyone would ever do it.

IronGalaxy:
it was Mandela that dismantled South Africa's nuclear programme.. get the facts right
+
Nope.

You get your facts right.

-------

.Key Timeline of Dismantlement
1989: Under President F.W. de Klerk, the South African government made the official decision to terminate the nuclear weapons program.

1990: The actual physical destruction of the weapons began. South Africa had produced six completed "gun-type" nuclear devices and had a seventh under construction.

**July 1991: South Africa acceded to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as a non-nuclear-weapon state.

1993: President de Klerk publicly announced to Parliament that the program had existed but was now fully dismantled.

1994–1995: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) completed its verification process, confirming that all nuclear material was accounted for and the program had been terminated.

Why did they do it?
Several factors influenced the decision to disarm:

Geopolitical Shifts: The end of the Cold War and the withdrawal of Cuban troops from neighboring Angola reduced the immediate security threats that had originally motivated the program.

Domestic Transition: As South Africa moved toward the end of Apartheid, the outgoing government wanted to ensure that a future African National Congress (ANC) government would not inherit a nuclear arsenal.

International Standing: Dismantling the weapons was a key step in ending South Africa's international isolation and lifting economic sanctions.

You're a clown 🤡the control codes for Soviet Nukes was in Moscow so technically Ukraine didn't actually had Nukes
+
Haba no need to yab me oh. Yes, I see that you are right on this.

However the truth remains that Ukraine could have taken possession of those weapons if they wanted to and re-engineering them to reset the codes would only have taken some months or a few years at best plus a few billions in dollars. That would still remain a massive headstart as opposed to developing from scratch.

So it was still a mistake to hand them over.

But yes, you are right, and thanks for pointing it out.

JuanDeDios:
I don't think they saw it this way at all. The spread of Communism was seen as a global threat - which was why the Americans paid considerable attention to South Africa. But funny enough, it was home-grown communism that the Afrikaner overlords said they feared and went all out to arm themselves. Not only did the likes of the ANC have communist sympathies, the Pretoria authorities liked to frame every anti-apartheid initiative as Communist. That is why, in explaining his decision to destroy the nukes and end the programme, de Klerk said "... but destroyed them when fears of a COMMUNIST INSURGENCY subsided with the end of the Cold War." (emphasis mine)

I think many influential Afrikaner leaders did believe that local Commies could take the country with the backing of the USSR.
+
I can't dispute this, nonetheless I also think the impending change of control to black hands would have been a thought.

Considering the mindset at the time, it's virtually impossible that it wasn't a cardinal factor.

Again, one would wonder at the real logic of destroying your nukes - all of them - simply because of the end of the cold war. Other nuclear powers didn't do that, did they? They only reduced the amounts of warheads.

No country really says, oh, X ideology is no longer a threat, so let me destroy my biggest defenses. No one does that, seriously. Especially when the communist powers remained nuclear armed.

Have you also considered the Israel angle? The apartheid regime was pals with Israel and the ANC was pretty pals with Palestine. There would be no way certain interests would let an emerging ANC Government be nuclear armed and I doubt that fear of communism was it.

The credence I assign African traditional religion is anchored in a recognition of the moral compass provided for believers by those ancient modes of worship, much in the same way that the Holy Bible's Ten Commandments could be regarded as a universal code of conduct distilled over centuries, for adherence by all who seek harmony with others by displaying compassion and refraining from inflicting harm.

A traditional African hunter who sneaks through the forest stealing animals from the traps set by others, has transgressed Ogun's statutes.

A person who deliberately harms others with premeditated acts may be warned to desist and repent for fear of invoking the wrath of Sango.
+
Great. I personally have respect for traditional religion. In much, even far above the Abrahamic ones.
The ethics of the ten commandments are generally good. The first four centre on the Jewish deity though, which I dont believe in.

Those ethics, as you said, are universal and should not be credited to the Jews alone.

As humans age above 60, their physical height can in some instances diminish to less than their earlier lifetime's stature, due to a subtle curvature that develops in the spinal column of some individuals, and the slight compression of the cartilage disks that separate the backbone's individual vertebrae bones.

My sole encounter with Wole Soyinka was decades ago, and he towered above my 6 foot-one height, at that time. Now that you mention it, there is a slight forward stoop in Kongi's stance, as can be discerned from recent video footage as the man resolutely proceeds north of 90 years young.

Something must be misaligned. Either in terms of where either of you were standing, or vantage point or age. Because I have also stood beside him and he cant be any where near 6'4. But the difference, and why I added age as a factor, is that I stood beside him in his old age.

Note that Abacha and IBB were very short.
