basilico: What's the end game for liberals. Judge freed this thug despite prosecutors telling him not to, this thug ends up murdering a police officer
CHICAGO JUDGE JOHN LYKE IGNORED PROSECUTORS AND FREED CAREER CRIMINAL WITH 7 FELONIES — NOW ACCUSED OF MURDERING POLICE OFFICER
Calls are ramping up to impeach and hold liable Chicago Judge John Lyke after he released a known dangerous criminal who then allegedly killed a police officer.
“The judge said NO!” the report highlighted. “The judge was convinced he changed his ways.”
Alfonso Talley had seven previous felonies, including armed robbery and using a gun to carjack a woman. He was already facing four separate violent crime charges and had three outstanding warrants, including for violating electronic monitoring.
“Prosecutors told Cook County Circuit Judge John Lyke that Talley should be kept behind bars until his trials,” the report stated. “But the judge said no.”
Citing Illinois’ no-cash-bail law and the state’s safety act, Judge Lyke released him anyway. Talley was later arrested for robbing a dollar store and pistol-whipping a female employee before shooting Chicago police officer Bartholomew.
What was the point of releasing a dangerous felon. There are many judges who have done the same. Time they were held responsible. This be similar to a bartender serving a drunk with alcohol who then goes ahead and commits a road accident. If this was in Wakanda, you'd know bribes were exchanged.
TemporaryHansel: The other states are too far behind. Infact, Lagos is more than 500 years ahead of some states in the country.
As for your point about the strategic development Lagos received, perhaps if the other states weren't looting theirs with reckless abandon while not keeping anything tangible for development, they wouldn't be so far off? The ND states for example, which excuse do they want to give??
Almost every country has an economic nerve centre and Lagos is that to Nigeria, it is also its former Federal Capital. There is no basis for comparimg it to ANY other state. None.
GloriousGbola: you and i will not agree on this and let us leave it at that
i am a realist and i do not expect an utopia to suddenly materialize
i also do not expect a unicorn who will change nigeria overnight
some of the progress i celebrate in lagos today was started 10 years ago and encountered multiple setbacks before eventually being delivered
within nigerias system today and in the world in general you have to be a politican, a negotiator, a deal maker , an administrator to get things done.
i celebrate obj for the reforms of his tenure but obj was not a saint either.
in personal life i am rigid and i have repeatedly sacrificed good for perfect -
if your believe peter obi who was also a nigerian governor who was hated until some youths decided to brand him as somehow different from his fellow governors, then its all good
I am not a Peter-Obi-ist oh. Why must everyone assume this once a person criticizes BAT?
I understand of course that we will not agree. But what I expect is being able to criticize even the person you support. In short, not being like the Trumpists who are unable to criticize Trump. The appointment of Atiku Bagudu is indefensible for example. And things like that betray the real mindset of predators.
As regards your realism I have spotted it miles away, and I actually appreciate it.
Gabrielshow26: Honesttalk21, would most likely attempt this as he is their "current" champion. He actively loves to defend Islam. Another person would be explore2xmore. The rest are just shy👀. Qasim6 is salladin to antichristian's, Gokbori. He too can try to attempt it. Lukuluku69 is another specialist, although he would most likely use deflections but since you are not a Christian, there is nothing to deflect to🤧. He might just stay away👀. Ohyoudidnt, abutwins, and JimRohn are the last bunch. The rest are either inactive or prefer to look away.
However, their cowardice would stem from the fact, that you are agnostic and they have nothing to deflect to. Hopefully, one of them shows up and saves Islam😮💨.
Kaymax2222: all the sacrifices is not for any generations to come it's for the politicians to feed fat and steal more, and its already happening. Baba prefer make Nigerians dey suffer and give more Money to governor's than for him to effect economic benefits that will touch everyone so dead that ehn baba is steering us in the right direction.
@GloriousGbola - this chap says exactly my point about where the benefits of any sacrifices will go. Into private pockets unless its not naija.
davidque: When you make such bold and unbelievable claim, the best is to follow it up with examples of how 10k will sustain a family for 4 days. Besides, why is "Yoruba muslim family" in your claims? is food cheaper for muslims
The minute you see "we Yoruba Muslms" in any post, know that that person is neither Yoruba nor Muslim.
Lithiumite: You can say whatever you like but my family is quite comfortable and what my kids will eat for the next 1 year even without a job isn't an head ache to me.
Show us your family food budget for a month to juxtapose mine.
I cannot do that and will not do that because it will come across wrong. It will seem like some sort of prideful thing or pulling rank. I can only say that its a lot and significantly more than previously on account of the inflation everyone can feel.
Memphis357: I have been thinking lately about why any Nigerian in their right mind would support Tinubu's reelection. After much reflection, I have concluded that certain factors must be at play that go beyond mere sycophancy, blind following, and self-serving monetary gains. In my quiet ruminations, two things stood out that make far more plausible sense than the reasons already mentioned.
Firstly, by every measurable standard of assessing good governance, Tinubu has failed to meet the yearnings and aspirations of most Nigerians. The World Bank's Nigeria Development Update (April 2026) confirms that the share of Nigerians living below the poverty line climbed from 56 per cent in 2023 to 61 per cent in 2024, before rising further to 63 percent in 2025, equivalent to approximately 140 million people condemned to poverty, even as inflation began to ease. That figure is not a statistic; it is a national emergency. Compounding this, Nigeria's total public debt has ballooned to N159.28 trillion as of December 2025, a 10.1 per cent year-on-year increase, debt that the government services at a staggering cost of N16 trillion annually, consuming funds that should be going into hospitals, schools, and roads.
On the security front, the 2025 Global Terrorism Index ranked Nigeria fourth among the most terrorism-impacted countries in the world, with terror-related deaths rising by 46 per cent to 750 fatalities, the highest toll since 2020, and the number of attacks surging by 43 per cent, from 120 incidents in 2024 to 171 in 2025. The Nigerian army has lost a good number of its officers and personnel under Tinubu's watch and also thousands of Civilians bear the brunt, accounting for 67 per cent of all fatalities.
Given these damning figures, it is unimaginable how anyone in their right mind would be canvassing for Tinubu's reelection. The only conclusion I have arrived at is that his most fervent followers are suffering from Stockholm syndrome and cognitive dissonance.
These two psychological conditions are the only lenses that give me any meaningful peek into the minds of Tinubu's fan base. If it is not a mind besieged by Stockholm syndrome, how would a people who are daily victims of terror, human rights abuses, banditry, and a crushing cost of living still be supporting the very irresponsible government that is largely responsible for their pain and plight? And if it is not cognitive dissonance, how would anyone still be talking about "renewed hope" when the hope Tinubu once promised is clearly choking us, when we have been pushed against the wall and are barely surviving?
It has to be these two afflictions of the mind that Batists have been gripped by, for them to shamelessly canvass for his reelection. And on that note, one can only feel pity for them and pray they are healed and rehabilitated. It takes a certain level of damage to a person's mind before they fall in love with the very source of their sufferings and enslavement.
Very well articulated.
The truth is not far. Most people supporting BAT in Nigeria do so for tribalistic reasons. A small minority for personal gain from access to power and reward. Less than one percent of his support will be from sincere people who believe he is doing well. Because in today's Nigeria, one has to be close to insanity to believe that. Either that or one is so totally insulated from reality by wealth, that one cannot see clearly.
But believe me, nine out of ten comments you read here supporting Bola are because they are written by people of the same tribe. Outside the southwest beyond paid hacks almost no one supports him.
This is not unique to Bola, Nigerian politics is full of tribalism. It's a huge part of why we have toads as leaders.
Lithiumite: Don't people eat $100 dollar meals at a go,whats my business with that must i go to eat where they do......I also infered that 1k can still get you a decent breakfast to get you rolling for the day but you ignored that and started ranting, hows that arse licking should i be telling him where he must eat...... I don't understand your angst.....even if he is currently a govt official should he be earning pittance?
How much are you being paid for this. It can't be much since your family budget is still a suffering budget. Your kids must be emaciated.
Lithiumite: My family is on a stock up budget of 50k monthly about 20k weekly out of pocket expenses for food, soups, snacks, take outs etc that brings us to a total of about 110k or roughly 120k roughly $90 a month......if you divide that by 30days,you have 4k per day for a family of 5.
A 1/4 bag of rice will take us a whole month, beans, garri, semo, amala, yam when its surplus, pasta, noodles, sweet potatoes which us quite cheap, plantain when surplus, pepper of 10k would last 2 weeks......Ile epo market is quite close to me and I often drive through mile 12 several times in a month where pepper, onions, potatoes and yam are quite cheap.
Provisions golden morn/corn flakes,oats,custard,eggs,sugar,milk
Snacks like biscuits, shawama, meat pie, bole, puff puff or donuts.
Proteins....majorly fish,pork,eggs.....we have really reduced our beef consumption due to its high cost which I always find annoying byvthe way......goat meat and turkey on few occasions.
Minimum wage in america is about $7.95 per hour while in Nigeria its about 70k a month but based on my observation the lowest income family should be bringing home at least 200k monthly in Nigeria as dual income......I see this and I have studied this.
Lithiumite: Whats your business with how much he spends for breakfast are you within the same income threshold.....several upscale restaurants are opening all over the country on a daily basis and several budget ones are also very much available.......a thousand naira can still get you a decent breakfast and 10k might not be able to get you same depending where you go.
Must you people murder your conscience to worship your oppressors?
HacheNoire: The problem with Tope is that, she is not familiar with world dynamics and her scope is only confined to Nigeria!
Towards inflation, Nigeria is not the only country being impacted!
I am glad this is an open forum where we have far and wide personalities. In the major countries where Nigerians immigrate to, be it Canada, US or the UK, same question will always trigger same answers .
$10,000 was worth much more in 2015 than in 2026 right inside the US, and same applies to Canada and the UK.
Let use an essential commodity like petrol in the UK. The pump price was averaging 104p/litre in 2015 but now 157p/litre. This reflects across all boards and even higher on some other commodities.
A brand new base Toyota Corolla in the US cost $17k in 2015, it’s now $23k in 2026, and that’s a basic car for the common man to commute. Factoring interest rate in 2015 is far behind that of 2026, you know it’s a kill
No country in our bracket is making it easy for its citizens. These are international economic forces impacting the world.
I did will accept blames on behalf of His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), that we have not moved towards self dependency. But that cannot be done in 8, 15 or 20 years? Change is a gradual and consistent process.
Our Great country has suffered from military and incompetent civilian rule. We have big challenges and why the global inflation is impacting us the most.
One thing I can guarantee is that, with the trajectory His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) is steering Nigeria towards, it’s is guaranteed the best days are close, based on the sacrifices we making today.
The pain is enormous and that I am aware and also feel, but the bigger wins and accomplishments lies ahead.
Our generation will be remembered for the sacrifices we made towards a better Nigeria.
Grammar and you can't condemn. The idiotic statement.
Onegai: Well, you'll need to point out all the other people who got killed to save you from sin. Like, they got killed, not that they were tied up and then a sheep showed up to save them at the last minute 😃
The word "ritual" means "it happens frequently", so whom else died for your and my sins?
The Mayans and Aztecs did ritual human sacrifice, we Africans probably did it, so it happened more than once.
How many people in the Bible died for my sins, please?
Shall I send you on a quest, please?
Do you know what a lamb is? It's a ram, the one they kill for Sallah.
Please help me find and buy a perfectly unblemished one, as in no spots, no sickness, so nicks or ticks on the skin, beautiful and white. Sallah is coming up so it should be easy.
When you find one, please let me know
A ritual does not have to be repeated. That is only one definition of the word. Another definition which applies here is an act which bears some ceremonial or spiritual meaning or connotation particularly if carried out in a specified manner for a specified purpose. That would suffice. And certainly you cannot deny that believing that a man was killed and that his blood saves you is believing in ritual human sacrifice.
But my bigger point is that if you heard this story from Africa, you would laugh and toss it into the bin.
basilico: Grok tries. Gemini doesn't. X is a neutral platform. Was fill of liberals who were mostly doing nothing . I believe the current setup of X is still liberal , but the company policy is to politics out of the door. ***They are worse than Alphabet. During the 2024 election cycle, 96.96% of political contributions from X (formerly Twitter) employees were directed to Democratic candidates and causes.
Onegai: I lived abroad for years and relocated voluntarily back to Nigeria to start a business, a family and raise my kids. So I'm more fiercely Nigerian than you probably are.
I'm still not sure what part of our cultures is worth saving because I haven't seen the benefits of it. And I love African culture.
But what are we really doing with it? You can't say it made us better collectively because take a look at your country: it's so "amazing", everyone is hustling to leave it to places where nobody likes them.
I don't believe the pagan deity of the Jews somehow managed to become the biggest religion of the world, because if that were true, Confucius and Buddha should have spread even more (they were bigger than Christianity at the time the Church started). Plus Judaism is different from Christianity.
Christianity is the only religion built on Love. Love God, love others more than you love yourself.
It's crazy and against our natural will to do so. Why follow a religion that tells a woman to raise the proof of her husband's infidelity as her own, which is what Christy Bature did?
She said that doing so shaped her ministry and I believe some of it.
Marriage is meant to shape you, not that you find the "right, perfect" person and marry. You're supposed to be made into a better version of yourself and that requires sacrificing and loving someone more than you love yourself. Ephesians 5: 21-33
Now, I don't agree with all Christy Bature says but I do agree when she tells women: "don't carry marriage on your head". You're not dieing, going to Heaven and joining the family group "Deepsight, son of Papa Deepsight, Husband to Mrs Deepsight". So don't stay in a marriage because you really want to be Mrs somebody, stay there because you signed a convenant in front to God to that person.
Or go and worship your traditional gods, marry millions of women and sort yourself out, worked out great for King Solomon. Best of luck to y'all.
My issue is why we are quick to highlight barbarisms in our traditions but ignore all the barbarous atrocities and prescriptions of Yahweh especially in the Old Testament.
Furthermore if the central Christian doctrine that God became a man to be killed to save you from sin originated in any African tradition, you yourself would see it for what it is - ritual human sacrifice.
basilico: Gemini is so biased [i]During the 2024 election cycle, approximately 88% of political contributions from Alphabet employees (Google's parent company) went to Democratic candidates and causes. [/]
Try Grok. It strives to be as neutral as possible unlike Gemini which spews out the views it's employees feed it
That argument can be made for Grok as well. X is a right wing echo chamber. Besides if you read it all, it was balanced.
Onegai: Whose image are you made in, God or traditional gods? .
Sounds like you have some sort of inferiority complex as against other cultures. What makes you think Yahweh is not simply the traditional pagan mountain deity of the Jews?
When that leftist guy tried to kill Trump, I had a few friends over at my house; 3 guys and a girl who was already there. They were talking about how disappointed they were that the guy did not succeed.
Before the other guys came, the girl was in my kitchen preparing our meal. I was playing videos on Twitter when she saw the news.
She said, "God forgive me for wishing the death of someone," and continued to say she knows I am a Trump fan.
For me, it was a disgusting thing for her to say, as well as for the guys, but I never responded to their remarks. I just enjoyed our moment, food and Playstation.
Even when Kirk was shot, my childhood said something and I never responded to it. I respect what they believe. The last thing I will do is to change how I felt about them because of their opinion.
So why would someone attack her own sister?
🔥 Black Trump supporter says her sister PUNCHED HER IN THE FACE when she found out she voted for the current President.
She is then asked if she understands why her sister did that. What??
The political violence always comes from the Left. It's not even up for debate.… pic.twitter.com/z4b0mtjuAU
Political Violence from the Right to Left Key Trends and Data Points
1. The Lethality Gap Research indicates a significant disparity in the outcome of these attacks. Right-Wing: Between 1975 and 2025, right-wing extremists were responsible for approximately 10% of all terrorist murders in the U.S. (363 deaths). Since 2016, high-profile mass shootings—such as the 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue shooting and the 2022 Buffalo supermarket shooting—have been linked to white supremacist or far-right ideologies.
Left-Wing: Left-wing ideologies accounted for roughly 2% of terrorist murders (68 deaths) in the same 50-year period. While the number of incidents (plots and attacks) increased recently, they rarely result in mass casualties.
2. The 2025 Shift Interestingly, 2025 marked a statistical anomaly. For the first time in over 30 years, the number of left-wing terrorist attacks and plots outnumbered those from the far right. Analysts suggest this was driven by intense opposition to specific state institutions and political leadership. Conversely, right-wing violence dipped slightly during the same period, with some experts speculating that traditional grievances were being addressed through mainstream political channels rather than extremist violence.
3. Lone Actors vs. Organized Groups The FBI and DHS have noted a shift away from organized group activity toward "lone offenders." These individuals are often radicalized online and act independently, making them much harder for law enforcement to track.
Examples: The 2024 and 2025 assassination attempts against high-ranking political figures (including President Donald Trump and various State Governors) underscore the vulnerability of public officials to radicalized individuals across the spectrum.
4. Civil Unrest and Riots Beyond "terrorism" (premeditated attacks), the last decade saw significant civil unrest. Left-leaning unrest: Often tied to social justice movements (e.g., the 2020 protests following George Floyd’s death), which, while mostly peaceful, included segments of property damage and clashes with police.
Right-leaning unrest: Most notably the January 6, 2021, Capitol Riot, which represented a direct, violent challenge to the transition of power and resulted in multiple injuries and deaths.
Summary While the frequency of left-wing incidents has grown to rival or even exceed right-wing incidents in very recent years, the lethality and threat of mass-casualty events remain overwhelmingly concentrated within right-wing extremist circles. Both sides have contributed to a climate where threats against election officials, judges, and lawmakers have reached historic highs. ----- *Credit: Google
basilico: Deepsight. FBI director own words about Russia hoax
FBI DIRECTOR KASH PATEL: IT TOOK ME 2 YEARS TO PROVE DEMOCRATS HIRED FOREIGN ASSET FOR FAKE DOSSIER TO ILLEGALLY SPY ON TRUMP VIA FISA
FBI Director Kash Patel just laid out exactly what he spent two years proving about the Russia hoax operation.
“It took me 2 years of my life to prove the following, that a political party in the United States of America in the 21st century would go overseas and hire some bogus intelligence asset to manufacture fraudulent, fake unverified information,” Patel said.
He continued: “Funnel that to not just the intelligence community, but the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and then take those package lies that they had paid for with campaign finance funds, and go into a secret surveillance court and illegally spy on your opponent to be the next president of the United States.”
Patel noted the time it took: “I think that was 45 seconds. That took two years of my life.”
Then he revealed what the investigation confirmed: “And what did we find out? The FISA court themselves came back and said these warrants were illegal, that the FBI did not provide evidence of exculpatory evidence and innocence, and that the FBI essentially lied in those applications.”
Kash is a rogue with zero integrity. He also has a snout like a rat and a voice like a coyote.
The Story of Salim and Sahla: It details a narrated event involving Sahla bint Suhail, her husband Abu Hudhayfa, and their freed slave Salim. According to the narration, Muhammad advised Sahla to breastfeed Salim (an adult) so that he would become her Mahram (a legal relative), allowing him to enter their home freely.
Aisha’s Perspective: The video cites reports suggesting that Aisha, one of Muhammad’s wives, viewed this not as a unique exception for Salim but as a general rule. It mentions that she allegedly encouraged her relatives to breastfeed men she wished to host.
Opposition from Other Wives: It highlights that most of Muhammad's other wives disagreed, believing the instruction was an "indulgence" specifically and only for Salim, and they refused to adopt the practice.
The "Missing" Quranic Verses: The video discusses Hadiths claiming that verses regarding adult breastfeeding were once part of the Quran but were lost—specifically citing a narration where a sheep or goat purportedly ate the parchment containing them after Muhammad's death.
Modern Interpretations: It references contemporary controversies, such as a 2007 incident involving a professor at Al-Azhar University who suggested the practice could be a solution for gender segregation in the workplace, and different views on whether the milk must be taken directly or can be served in a cup.
Critical Perspective: The video concludes with a critical stance, framing the practice as problematic and examining its implications for women's rights and social norms.
triplechoice: You misunderstood Deepsight. He was speaking hypothetically, not accusing you of anything, to show why your energy scares away help.
He was saying, "I'd love to help, but after seeing how you've pursued the pastor for a broken promise, I'd be terrified you'd do the same to me if I ever fell short"
Life is up and down. Nothing is certain. Someone may promise you help today, and not able to fulfil it tomorrow if personal circumstances changes suddenly. .
raumdeuter: Doherty na soli candidate anyday. He is just in the wrong party.
You dont work at Goldman Sachs, ARM pensions and Arthur Andersen by being a dundee
Na where I want Oyo to be too. When our options are between Adelabu, Tegbe, Zach Adedeji people with excellent academic and private sector professional records, the state can only get better
I hope someday in the future too, Oyedele becomes Ekiti governor
I recently took a short trip to Nigeria, and I feel deeply saddened by what I experienced. I want to speak honestly to young people, middle-aged individuals, married couples—everyone. Please, don’t let anyone deceive you into thinking that “there is nothing abroad.” That statement is simply not true.
It’s difficult for me to even talk about this because of how heavy it feels. In Nigeria, there is a strong belief that money is everything. But I’ve come to realize that true quality of life goes far beyond wealth. Things like security, basic amenities, good healthcare, and decent roads—these are fundamental human needs, and they matter more than just having money.
Millions of people in Nigeria are struggling every day, and it’s heartbreaking. What makes it even more painful is that many of the leaders travel abroad, see better systems and living conditions, yet allow their own citizens to endure such hardship.
My brothers and sisters, think about your future. Think about your old age and the generations that will come after you. Try to find opportunities in places where you can build a better life. Nigeria, as it stands, is not working the way it should, and we must not ignore that reality.
you can google any subsidy chart and you will see that gej had the highest figures
i am sure you are aware that during the buhari years, NNPC was importing PMS. so you have a case of a government organization reporting whatever they say they imported - effectively regulating themselves as they are all part of the govt. the subsidy was an obvious failure , but we should have continued running it
who is the corrupt powerful here ? BAT has exited the top management of NNPC who oversaw , which is another reason for northern cries of marginalization. ending the subsidy was the only option.
i regularly used to listen to different analysts while driving to work in the morning - and they had all said the same thing for years- subsidy has to go, multiple dollar rates have to go. we cant keep kicking the can down the road. buhari tried that and made nigeria into an economic basket case. all those running for election said they would kill subsidy when on the campaign trail. subsidy had become stage 3 cancer and if you want to belive thee is a painless way to excise it....
every administration has its hated and dodgy individuals who serve a purpose for them. for GEj it was diezani - for tinubu it is Chagouri. if peter obi enters today - he will have his own black bag guy. i am sure you dont buy into his sainthood claims
as an aside you know that it was GEJ that elevated Wike who was a local govt chairman before this.
but GEJ did use the military, did he not? so what is the difference ?
Anyway, I have said my bit, but at least you can tell us why BAT vociferously opposed subsidy removal only to do a total one? Political guile right? Anyway I give him politics.
And no, Chagoury is unacceptable. You cannot mention scandals of GEJ only to soft pedal for BAT by saying well, they all have their bad guys. You have to be consistent. And what's it with Atiku Bagudu. How can anyone openly appoint him ? ? ?
No, GEJ did not noticeably use the military against the people as APC has.
Also how come BAT is out borrowing previous governments despite removing subsidies?
About NNPC, we all know how horribly corrupt Ojulari is already. Don't you?
GloriousGbola: imho GEJ was lucky he lost as a lot of the issues we are facing today were already coming
life and business is in cycles and the downward cycle was starting as GEJ exited
GEJ was not a mild mannered democrat - that is rosy eyed revisionism - he used the military to run the ekiti election, the military were also stationed outside bourdillon we saw how orubebe tried to scatter the vote count we saw how the NSA into an election cash cow disbursing money to anyone and everyone we saw how they delayed the election to kill APC's momentum they correctly surmised that APC would run out of money. lets just say i witnessed some fundraising for the last two weeks then we had people like hamza al mustpha who should have remained in the dustbin of history released for reasons best know to gej
with respect to subsidy - there is a graph that shows that subsidy ballooned under gej's watch - i think 200 to 300% i was in the industry and there were hard rules for subsidy eligibility - you must have a depot ,you must have 500 stations nationwide. what happened was that under gej's admin subsidy became a free for all with every tom dick and harry with no assets being awarded contracts and bring paid for nothing
this led to the subsidy growing out of control. unfortunately we don't have detailed online record because ta the time, the president of MOMAN wrote an open letter on newspapers complaining about the proliferation fol briefcase companies with no actual footprint being awarded subsidy grants and being paid for supplying nothing.
when it all blew up rather than prosecute the beneficiaries of the false subsidy payments - gej opted to punish Nigerians by removing subsidy on january one with no prior announcement. i was on nl when it happened as it was announced on an FP thread. i immediately went out and filled my containers before the news spread. GEJ scored an own goal by cancelling subsidy without telling anyone before hand in the middle of a national holiday ;leaving travelling Nigerians stranded. he destroyed his goodwill and gave the opposition an opening.
and in the aftermath no one was punished during his tenure for inflated subsidy claims . we had a so called national assembly investigation that was nothing more than a shakedown with farouk lawan collecting dollars from otedola. and farouk did not see jail for 10 years after this.
of course Nigerians will rate GEJ over PMB or BAT. GEJ started borrowing to pay salaries at the end of his term. if he had won the election, the chickens would all have come home to roost. the man never made any hard decisions during his presidency - in his own words he came to create wealth - which he did be squandering the ECA. the average nigerian has a short memory and the average nigerian/citizen is interested in the immediate economy, not the future economy.
we had multiple scandals in gejs admin from stella odua to diezani to the job test stampede - and no one was ever punished
i see Chagouri as a fixer who will provide dirty work services to every government. maybe if gej had engaged him to buy weapons we would not have had that national embarrassment of 15 million usd on a plane in south africa.
i also think that gej and his handlers cynically allowed boko haram to grow because it served them politically
source of unchallenged funding requests avenue to delay election tool to use to whip the opposition claiming they were bh supporters. then everyone who had issues with gej was branded as a boko haram supporter on social media
Just simple questions - Why then did BAT oppose subsidy removal, and why have neither BAT nor PMB prosecuted any subsidy scammers in 11 years now?
I trust you are aware that -
1. Subsidy which was a total of about N300 Billion under Goodluck ballooned to about 7 Trillion under PMB.
2. Goodluck did not do a total but a partial removal of subsidy unlike BAT did
3. BAT's total removal of subsidy was a first of its kind in the world and no where else had petrol prices jumped by 200 per cent in a single day prior to that. That is irresponsible of ANY government and when you add the floating of the naira barely three weeks later, that was sheer madness and of course the economy tanked.
BAT is called courageous for doing that and I dont buy it. Courage is not pressing your jackboot on the necks of the poor, courage is tackling the corrupt powerful.
And I am surprised at your take on CHAGOURI. That man's history with misappropriation of finances at an international scale is well documented. Aside from the fact that BAT awarded him a N15 Trillion contract without any competitive tender and without any NASS appropriation. No single transaction in Nigeria's history comes close corruption-wise. And while at that can you tell us the logic behind appointing Abacha's bag man, Atiku Bagudu who refunded billions of stolen funds as Minister for Budget and Planning?
I am also surprised you mention GEJ using the military. Brother, do you want to compare it to the fiascos of EndSARS and EndBADGovernance protests? GEJ never turned the military against the people the way APC has. Let us not even start with brazen abuses of the constitution such as the illegal state of emergency in Rivers State.
And oh - despite removing the subsidies, how come BAT's government is setting a record with borrwing?
