Buy new SUVs for the entire national assembly and give them circa 200 million each as "palliatives." While you spend over 500k USD on a hotel in New York and N90 Billion on Hajj subsidies. I can go on and on. Whats hard about all these, all it takes is a heart made of stone. |

StOla: How is it government business if private individuals and corporations avail themselves of the law that allows them to challenge those who make libelous accusations?
You want the government to intervene and side with the private individuals or side with those who have made unsubstantiated claims that are injurious to others? Many of the recent instances have been instigated by government OR people in government. Please recall someone was arrested for calling Aisha Buhari fat. It gets that bad. Senator Ned Nwoko also had Sowore arressted for saying he has mosquitoes in his house. It gets that bad and that silly. |

Courts do not enforce laws. The law enforcement agencies like Police do. They have done their bit and arrested her.
You’re such a daft twit My dear, you have very limited understanding of law. An arrest is only the beginning of a process. It ends with a conviction by a court. In fact thats not really the end. It goes on to actual imprisonment or other penalties and possible appeals. The reason you have criminal cases prosecuted by a Commissioner of Police in many instances is because that is part of law enforcement. Capital olodo. |

wirinet: I laugh in mandarin. This section of the the law is so ambitious its unenforceable. It can only be employed to witch hunt the poor, vulnerable and helpless. What dies "anyone who defames" means? Is this statement;
Defamatory?
What about this one?;
If we compile all the defamatory published statements by firstcitizen on this site, he will face more than a century in jail.
It's akin to the bigamy Law under Section 370 of the Penal Code I attached below. It is unenforceable. Dispute millions of Nigerians having second, third or even fourth wife, nobody has been jailed because of bigamy.
The Penal Code was made during the colonial era to serve the interests of the colonialists, has become obsolete and irrelevant. If our legislature are actually interested in doing their jobs instead of pursuing constituency projects and allowances, they should have repealed and replace most of the Penal Code.
In addition, I just learnt that the Penal Code only applies in Northern Nigeria, the law that applies in southern Nigeria is the criminal code. Both laws are said to be different. Thank you very much. I told him his jurisprudence is weak, and he thought I was having a laugh. I was perfectly serious. I also mentioned the bigamy thing up there. Jurispurudence is the philosophy behind law. |

Firstcitizen:
Chai! On a serious note. There are certain things that are anomalies within our legislation. And that's why I said your jurisprudence is weak. Don't be "chai-ing" there. Stop and dwell on what I am saying. Globally and within our inherited common law system, libel and slander are recognized as civil wrongs, torts for which one sues. To criminalize them is to bastardize the law of torts. One may as well begin to criminalize other torts such as misinformation which traumatizes someone. There are also laws in our books which are dormant. An example is the law against bigamy, which, being against our polygamous cultures, lies dormant and unused. Therefore only a jurisprudentially weak lawyer will conclude that the criminalization of libel and slander is not anomalous. This is more so as there are delicate aspects of determination involved, such as what the accused believed to be true (a subjective thing) matters of opinion, etc. I repeat, your jurisprudence is weak. |

Under Section 392 of the Penal Code Law, any person who defames another shall be punished with imprisonment for a term that may extend to two years, or with a fine, or with both. The Penal Code Law further extends the punishment of any person who prints or engraves a matter knowing it to be defamatory with imprisonment for a term that may extend to ten years, a fine or both, while the sale of printed or engraved material containing defamatory matter is punished with imprisonment for a term that may extend to five years, with a fine, or both.
By the provisions of Section 375 of the Criminal Code Act, any person who publishes any defamatory matter is guilty of a misdemeanor and is liable to imprisonment for one year; and any person who publishes any defamatory matter knowing it to be false, is liable to imprisonment for two years. A defendant who publishes a defamatory matter with the intent to extort is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for seven years."[/b] All of these are anomalies. These things remain civil wrongs as fundamentally conceived in our legal system. One day these anomalous provisions will be set aside. Olodo. |

Nzogbu2012: Yorubaland is great.... sons of Zik know this....and they are patiently waiting for the ignorant generation they will deceive to politically capture the ancestral home our legendary ancestors preserved for us.... from the days of Obatala to the days of the sage...
The greatest Igbo leader of all times who united them for the first time in history politically was Zik... He was so obsessed about our affairs and dreamed of Yorubaland as the launching base for Igbo expansionism that he wanted leadership there rather than build his political base at home.... He was blocked in 1951... stayed back and fought for 4 years to have political relevance in Yorubaland.... when Awolowo had enough of him, he chased him out in disgrace...
It was after Zik was disgraced from Yorubaland than he decided to go back home to rule his people.... He did not however relent with his obsession.... Yoruba people gave him a reality check and his people demoted him from the illusions of 'Zik of Africa' to 'Owelle of Onitsha'... rather than respect this and stay in his lane, he teamed up with the North to manipulate was after Zik was disgraced from Yorubaland than he decided to go back home to rule his people.... He did not however relent with his obsession.... Yoruba people gave him a reality check and his people demoted him from the illusions of 'Zik of Africa' to 'Owelle of Onitsha'... rather than respect this and stay in his lane, he teamed up with the North to manipulate them with use to federal might to wrestle for Yorubaland.... breaking Midwest from western region... inciting political heavy weights like Remi Fani Kayode against the chosen leader of Yoruba people... He recklessness eventually misguided his people against all factions of Nigeria like it did in Southern Cameroons and his actions caused the tensions that caused a civil war
Ojukwu had tensions with the North.... Yoruba people stayed neutral in the wahala of Arewa and his mistress in the first republic.... then he launched an invasion into Yorubaland and ended in disgrace.... Yoruba people like Black Scorpion invaded Biafra and chased the warlord to Ivory coast like a coward dressed like an ashewo as he took the last flight from Biafra to Ivory Coast. GEJ started a comission to look into a new constitution and true federalism... sons of Zik came to the conference agitating for a depoliticization of Yorubaland and declaration of Lagos as a neutral state.. GEJ and his advisers ended in disgrace and sons of Zik today are far removed from politcs.
Obidient malaria fever emerged after a few Yoruba youths were decieved... they turned it into a reincarnation of Zikisim as they shamelessly attempted a political capture of Lagos and Yorubaland... They ended in disgrace
In a thousand years.... a people who walked around naked while my ancestors built civilizations will never become overlords of sons of 'karo ojire'
As we wait for the Sage of our time.... we will not relent in preserving our lands for his leadership.
Yoruba youths, turn your back to Obidient movement and all schemes from the East... we are not one with them.... we have different histories, Language, culture and ancestors.... one from among you is the chosen to take the baton of your and ancestors.... one from among you is the chosen to take the baton of your ancestors... when you embrace you calling and duties... we will give you all the support you need.... always remember.... Awolowo was 28 when he started his journey...
The sage did not become the hero he is today in Yorubaland by embracing Zikisim.... you will never end up heroes by joining a propaganda Obidense movement. the fate of your land lies with your homegrown leadership. What psychiatric hospital did u escape from. |

She has every right to criticize but projecting another product which serve the same purpose is evil and a crime in the business world. Nigeria is a capitalist state where competition thrives but there are rules.
As i said before, she is wrong and no amount of emotion/sentiment will change that. Criticize but don't bring another product as being better while you criticize; this is bringing one down at the expense of another.
MTN and GLO are network providers, MTN can project herself as being better ( i.e MTN and others) but MTN dear not come to the public and say "that MTN is better than GLO." In the same breath you now say more than 60% of Nigerians don't live their lives on social media hence many didn't know about case. So if Erisco feels that many Nigerians are not bothered with social media, why expend so much energy and capital pursuing a harmless Facebook post?

nairalanda1: 10 steps to letting go of resentment
Approach resentment as the addictive state of mind it is. Realize that you are using resentment to replicate old dramas and acknowledge that you cannot change the past. Examine how your resentment may come from mentally confusing people in your present life with people from your past. Acknowledge that you cannot control those who have rejected you. Recognize that your resentment gives you only illusions of strength. Instead, highlight and validate your real strength and power. Learn to identify signals that provoke resentment. Apply the acronym HALT, widely used in 12-step programs: Hungry, Angry, Lonely, and Tired. Practice cognitive behavioral techniques to stop indulging in resentment. Put a thought between your feelings of resentment and indulging in ruminating about them. Acknowledge your part in allowing the abuse to occur, forgive yourself for that, and make a decision to not let it occur again. Declare an amnesty with the person you resent and with yourself. Forgive when you can, and practice willful and deliberate forgetfulness when you cannot, keeping in mind that these acts are gifts to yourself rather than capitulation to the people you resent Good night Dr. Phill, I say good night. |
