This is very gracious of you.

Most religious people have evolved from literal readings of their religious books, is what I've found, and even need a form of dissonance from some of it to remain religious or the majority would have thrown the books out with their dirty water.

I'd be calling for the death of even their imaginary gods myself if they hadn't evolved, and I wish they'd evolve much quicker where the word "believe" is concerned.
+
I went to the link you shared. Were you a Christian then?

No one said it was not written. My argument is that hardly any read it as justification to, and your "some" below is an illiterate few described by TV01 as "a man who is any combination of immature, neurotic, lacking n self control, empathy or a real love for his wife. Just stressed, angry or high even", which exists regardless of what religious book is read

What I've presented all along is now a "different question"? I'm amused.

Regardless, "some" Muslims find their justification for being bokoharam and Isis in the Quran too, like some are justifying bombing Iran with their Bibles, but I feel you'd accept such are a few "some", and the majority don't.

I definitely can't say same about you, I admit, since you are consistent in your view on both books.

My view is that any one who reads either book and learns what you claim "some" learn must be a person "who is any combination of immature, neurotic, lacking n self control, empathy or a real love for his wife. Just stressed, angry or high even", and thankfully will be a criminal in most societies if they do what the books have written in them.

I can live with this.

+
But its written in black and white. Whats your problem? Are you saying its not written in the Quran?

. . and or Muslims learn to beat their wife, because it is written in the Quran that they should.
+
This is a different question and you know it. Nonetheless, yes, some Muslims find their justification for doing so in the Quran, Hadiths and general Islamic teachings.

And no, I do not expect you to accept that your argument for wife beating in the Quran and the witch killing etc in the Bible (you are at least consistent in that), is the same as that which TV01 is now defending the Bible for but had accused the Quran of.

While I cannot account for another person's experiences in such matters (no one can), I will confidently say that it is wrong to presume that people who speak about the astral, the ethereal, the spiritual worlds, or NDEs or OBEs must be on drugs.

TV01:
Why are you blowing up my mentions angry - all weekend. Persistence however often demands a response wink. To make the point and for any reading.

Which is exactly what I have done in my posts on The Christian message and slavery.

The Gospel is clear, nutshellingly so grin. Love God......love your neighbour...all the law is fulfilled in love...God is love...Jesus fulfilled the law...love does no harm to your neighbour...All searchable in the NKJV of the Bible.

The Christian texts do not teach, accept or endorse slavery. Yes, some who claimed Christianity claimed it did, probably like Deepsight is doing, selected, decontextualised readings for their own selfish and wicked purposes.

The islamic texts are clear, chattel and s3cs slavery are fine, well earned booty. The fact that some moose.slims openly or codedly reject slavery does not change that. The fact that some Christians practice polygamy or preach tithing does not mean the Gospel does.

Christianity because of the love, no harm directives, progressively eliminated slavery, "child marriage", cousin marriage, concubinage, polygamy, child labour, witch-hunts, wife-burnings, twin killings and a host of other societal pathologies. Not only that, it introduced real welfare reforms around jurisprudence, individual need, sanitation and health. It embedded charitable giving as a social norm.

No other faith, ideology or worldview has managed to deal with the pathologies, let alone introduce the welfare and charitable imperatives.,
To say Christianity endorses slavery is quite simply ignorant and\or malicious.

Per my last post, I cant speak for others. The Christian message is unchanged. The practices of people who claim to be Christians is another matter and down to them, as your motivation in interpreting is down to you.

TV
+
It beats me how you can read the verses presented and still claim that the Bible does not endorse slavery. The OT is explicit enough, specifically talking about the seizing of women as war booty for example. And the Old Testament is scripture.

But it has also been pointed out to you how the NT urges Christians to accept their bondage in their spirits. It specifically says that they should not be people pleasers about it, that they should be sincere about it, not merely pretending to accept it. This is as insidious and evil as it gets, telling people to embrace bondage from their heart of hearts and capping it with saying they should do so as they would to Christ with fear and trembling.

These are explicit and no sincere or honest discussant can claim otherwise. You accuse me of being neither but it emerges that it is you who is duplicitous in this matter.

It is absolutely ridiculous for anyone to claim that there hasn't been evolution when looking at all this.

Of course you never said anything about the verse "suffer not a witch to live" on the basis of which hundreds of thousands of women were killed as witches relatively recently in historical terms.

Keep deluding yourself.

I did not bring Brostrom into this thread. Deepsight did. I was clarifying what Brostrom meant, not relying on him as my source.

I don't subscribe to simulation of reality. Simulation contradicts the truth about life: free will, without which we would not evolve as humans.

The only question I asked you was, What are they simulating? And how do you know?

You answer was word salad and vague references. dressed as depth

Kim has joined the war and his Army will land in the middle east this week.
Iran may not have ballistic missiles that could reach the US but Kim the Rocket man does. He also have several nuclear weapons and he's crazy enough to use them when he needs to.
Russia also warned the US that Iran possessed missiles that could reach the Continental US.
Trump really fu*cked up going into war alone. The EU might join the war out of pity once North Korea engage Israel in direct fire for fire.
This is the war biblical scholars always believe could lead to the last world war but to many people, it seems very minor. Europe is not supporting Trump neither is South America. How arrogant can one be? Americans will forever regret voting for a boxing promoter as president. He's worse than the comedian of Ukraine.

Just like the "MAGA Christians", there are a lot closeted Nigerians who drape themselves in faux Christianity because of that.
As if that will act as their shield from people suspecting them.
And because of that the 1st, 2nd and 3rd thing on their mind is fantasizing about other men and fantasizing other men are gay.

I believe people assume others are doing what they themselves can see themselves doing.

Refute this. You go to their country and behave anyhow, but Ghana must go for the slightest of things.

Go and ask other Africans how south Africans are treating them. Ask Nigerians how Ghanaians are treating them.

When you go into the UK or US as illegals, breaking their laws, they put you in a hotel, give you a lawyer, which gives you a chance to make your case.

In Africa, a mob comes for you.

So make your case. Uncle Tom is not an argument.

Again, nothing evil or wicked or that causes human harm is commanded or prescribed for Christians. I have clearly explained the OT laws given to the Jews and the Jews only (and non-Jews living amongt them) in direct covenant with a holy God.
+
Even if the OT was directed at only Jews -

1. It still raises questions as to the nature of the God that could have prescribed such barbarity for them. It only confirms and corroborates his disclosed nature as a barbarian in many other acts across the OT.

2. The verses in Ephesians and Colossians explicitly, insidiously and diabolically teach Christians to accept bondage on their hearts and not to pretend about it.

Christianity does not teach them, that is why Christians reject them.
+
Christianity taught them and Christians defended such teachings for almost two thousand years.

I didn't exempt slavery - if as you claim Christianity has evolved, what in addition to slavery has evolved?
+
If this is the case why did you specifically require that something else other than slavery should be mentioned?

Yes now, like your people naturally evolved from witch hunts, killing twins or selling their kindred for brollys?
+
I hope you know the European witch hunts which took hundreds of thousands of lives were not so long ago in historical terms?

Your retorts are weak. Why was it Christians and not Atheists (who Christians had to fight) unburdened by religion that championed abolition? Wishy-washy tropes like "moral evolution" do not happen in a vacuum. Christianity did that.
+
It is absurd to attribute this to Christians save perhaps the Quakers who had fought alongside many other abolitionists for a long time.

It's not my fault that the meaning of fulfil escapes you. When a law\contract is fulfilled, you are discharged, no longer subject to that law - replete in the bible. The new covenant ratified by The Blood of Jesus Christ is one of grace, not law
.
+
Christ is clear with his words, it is you who seeks to twist them. Because if he meant that the law had passed away, he would not have said that he did not come to abolish it.

The entire doctrine of Grace via the sacrificial murder of Jesus of Nazareth, itself an abominable pagan doctrine which should shame you, is a matter for another day.

Please stop mis-ascribing, mis-interpreting or willfully mis-reading the bible to justify your pain and 8tred. You are easily read and more easily debunked.
+
You debunk nothing and are not scholarly enough to be interesting.

Good points for the most parts. Well done!

But the statement in bold appears to not apply to the adherents of Islam, what say you?
+
It is a pity that there is much that is very backward about this religion. And more so since it once experienced a golden age when it was the leading light of much advanced thought in the world.

Sadly it has been unable to shake off the tendency towards misogyny/ gender apartheid as well as a very violent streak which is taken straight from the pages of its scripture. The insistence on dictating what women wear in many Islamic countries, and the fact that in a place like Saudi Arabia until very very recently they were even denied the right to drive, is very telling. Many women in these theocratic places cannot even travel or move at all without permission from a male, what is that?

Beyond that look at the application of Shariah law in Northern Nigeria. It has been used to lock up several non Muslims for years - for alleged blasphemy in a supposedly secular country with constitutional freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom of thought, conscience and religion? Look at the gruesome murder of Deborah, a Christian student in Northern Nigeria by a Muslim mob. Those who did it were on camera and they went scot free, even the governor justified it.

The truth is that this religion has an explicit creeping doctrine in which it seeks the total subjugation of the world to Islamic tenets. And in this they are specifically guided to appear moderate and gentle when in the minority but to become belligerent when in the majority. This is where the practice of Taqiyya often comes in. Telling lies to defend oneself and to defend Islam when in a weak position. But once they are in the majority, no one can truly be safe in terms of the rights we understand to be standard in the modern world.

Look at the practice of honor killing for example. What can we say of that.

There is too much that Islam has not evolved past and frankly it is still dwelling in the medieval world.
